Sunday, November 17th The transition team played in a tournament this weekend with our first opponent being Glenbard North. In the end we won with a score of 39-35. They had two players scoring 19 and 16 points each but they were no match for Kailor Rogers-Nichols who dished out 29 points! Also adding to the score were Austin Savickas for 4 points, Tara Rao and William Sizemore each with 2 points and their first baskets of the season! Great defense was played by all!
In our second game, we also walked away with a win against Oswego – Silver and 8 out 9 Hinsdale South players contributed to the 24-14 win. The following players all scored during the game, Alecia Coduto, Maria Meyer, Sherrie Overton, Tara Rao, Kailor Rogers-Nichols, Austin Savickas, William Sizemore, and Carolyn Wagner. There were three stand-out players (Overton, Rogers-Nichols and Savickas) who also had many assists helping almost all players to participate in the scoring! It was a great team win!
Tuesday, November 12th On November 12th the Special Olympics Black team kicked of the regular season against Lyons Township High School. They were successful on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. They were victorious and defeated the White team 33-25.
On Tuesday night, the Special Olympics Transition Basketball Team competed against LT with an 18-12 victory. It was a tight game early on as we exchanged baskets evenly with LT. But, soon Kailor Rogers-Nichols got on a roll and ended as the high scorer for both teams with 12 poins. Both Sherrie Overton and Austin Savickas also chipped in baskets for the win. There were several breakaway opportunities caused by steals from Maria Meyer, William Sizemore and others. The team played really well to pull of a win for their first game of the season!
Saturday, November 2nd Hinsdale South Special Olympics Hornets Black Team participated in the Homewood-Flossmoor Special Olympics Youth Basketball Invitational on Saturday November 2. The Black team first competed against Thornton High School Unified Blue team and loss 43-36 in overtime. The second game was against Homewood-Flossmoor High School Unified White team and lost 43-33. The Hornets Black team placed third in the tournament and was awarded the Tim Byndum Spirit Award for sportsmanship.
