Varsity The varsity team started off the week with a commanding win over conference opponent Proviso West before dropping a hard fought match to St. Laurence. The Hornets then traveled to the Glenbard West Tournament this past weekend and finished the weekend 3-2 to finish 7th overall. Kotryna Melstrad earned all tournament honors, amassing 48 kills in 5 matches. The team was also led by Mia Wiley with 44 assists and 7 aces, as well as Lexi Fedinec with 45 assists and 29 kills. The team looks forward to an exciting week against 3A rivals Fenwick, Montini, and Glenbard South.
Sophomore The sophomore Hornets racked up their first conference win of the year against Proviso East with a 25-18, 25-14 win over the pirates. Payton Hallman anchored the defense, with Charley Cook providing some much needed offense for the hornets. The Hornets fell to a strong St. Laurence JV squad later in the week. The team looks forward to a full slate of games this week against Fenwick, Montini, and Glenbard South. Go Hornets!
Freshman A Freshmen A started strong with a win against Proviso East beating them 25-20 and 25-3! Maddie Steckel served the majority of the game. They had a tough loss to a solid St. Lawrence team later in the week but ended on a positive note over the weekend with a 4th place finish at the St. Charles North Tournament taking wins from Elgin and Rockford East high schools.
Freshman B Freshman B had a game against Proviso East. The girls fought hard and lost the first set 13-25 and 8-15. Taylor Marshall shined bright playing middle for the first time this season. Freshman B had a home game later that week and the ladies improved from their game against Proviso but lost 12-25 and 16-25. Natalie Denwood showed strong defense playing back row against St. Laurence.
Week of September 9th
Varsity The varsity team suffered a tough loss to Addison Trail, but rebounded well with a convincing win against Richards. The team was led by strong serving from Mia Wiley, Lexi Fedinec, and Kotryna Melstrad. Maeve Savage and Isabel Rios-Tejeda manned the net effectively, acting as forces in the middle position. The team looks forward to continuing conference play against Proviso East this week, and a tough test against a strong St. Laurence squad.
Sophomore The sophomore Hornets volleyball team had a busy week. The ladies started the week out with their first home game against Addison Trail. The ladies put forth their best effort in a tough match but were defeated in two sets. The ladies were excited for their win against Richards high school on 9/11. Over the weekend, the ladies placed 4th place at the Oak Forest Invite, with two wins and two losses. We were excited to see Lexie Krupa at the outside this weekend and look forward to continue seeing her grow in the position. Payton Hallman demonstrated outstanding skills as a libero throughout the tournament. Lastly, the team is excited to see ninth-grader Jillian Ockrim step it up on the outside and continue to be a consistent player on the court.
Freshman A The freshmen Hornets hosted their first home game vs. Addison Trail on Tuesday. It was a hard fought match with the hornets falling to the trailblazers 19-25 and 15-25. The Hornets did not let the loss get them down, as they traveled to Richards High School the next day to secure their first win of the season 25-7 and 25-15! They were in control the whole night and had great swings by Kajal Kapur and awesome net plays by Alani Flowers and Emanuella Monogios.
Freshman B Freshman B fought hard during their first home game against Addison Trail first set 24-26 and second set 18-25. Grace Mokrzycki was a strong leader on the court and had several aces against Addison Trail.
Week of September 2nd
Varsity The Hornets picked up their first win of the year against perennial sectional finalist De La Salle with a convincing 2-0 win. The hornets followed up the win with a hard fought loss to a strong Homewood Flossmoor team. The hornets continued tournament play by traveling to southern Illinois to play in the Lady Tiger Classic at Richland County High School. The team played some of their best volleyball of the season and earned a 6th place finish. Junior Kotryna Melstrad led the hornets on offense averaging over 10 kills per match with a .286 hitting percentage. Middles Maeve Savage and Isabel Rios-Tejeda also chipped in with timely blocks, averaging 2.7 and 2.7 blocks per match respectively.
Sophomore The Sophomore Hornet Volleyball team had a busy week. The ladies played De La Salle and Homewood Flossmoor. The team had an exciting 3-game win against De La Salle. They pulled together to rally a victory in the third set. Zoha Khan and Desi Ivanova led the team in the win. The ladies played a great game against the Homewood Flossmoor team. Unfortunately, the ladies could not secure a victory. We are excited for a busy week of games and a tournament.
Freshman A The freshmen A hornets started their season against DeLaSalle on Tuesday night. Even though it didn't produce the outcome they wanted, it led them to make some positive changes for the next night's match against Homewood Flossmoor. The girls fought hard in a 3 set match winning the first set 25-21, losing the second set in a nail biter 25-27, then unfortunately dropping the match 13-25. All around it was a week of great learning and they are excited to take on Addison Trail in their first home game this upcoming week.
Freshman B Freshman B won their first game against De La Salle! Captain Mady Thomas led their team to victory with strong serves and sets. The hornets fought hard against Homewood Flossmoor but lost in two sets. We are looking forward to our first home game this week!
Week of August 26th
Varsity After having a match postponed, the varsity squad started regular season play at the Metea Valley Invite. The hornets fought hard and overcame several struggles, yet came out of the tournament winless. Senior Lexi Fedinec earned all-tournament honors. The team looks to bounce back against the always strong De La Salle Institute on Tuesday!
Sophomore The sophomore team started off their season with an impressive display at the St. Charles East Invite. The Hornets finished with a record of 3-1-1 on the day. Charley Cook led the offense while Payton Hallmark provided solid defense at the libero position.
