Varsity The Hornets started playoffs with a win in the regional semifinal match against Mansueto High School. Every healthy member of the team was able to see the court on a night where the hornets took care of business. The Hornets chipped in 25 kills in the match as a group. The team then moved forward to the regional championship match against Montini. The hornets had stolen a win against a tough Montini squad earlier in the year, but unfortunately lost the regional championship in 3 sets. From a statistical perspective, the team played one of the most complete matches of the season. Earning double digit kills and assists in each of the three sets was no easy feat, but demonstrated the team’s ability to generate their own points against an opponent that did not make many errors. While the team came up just short of the ultimate goal, we will be back next year yearning for a regional championship.
Week of October 21st
Varsity The Hornets’ schedule did not slow down for the final week of the season. A triple header against DGS, Hinsdale Central, and Tinley Park always provides for a big week before heading into the playoffs. The varsity team lost two tight three set matches to both DGS and Hinsdale Central. The team rebounded well against Tinley Park to close out the regular season. Kotryna Melstrad continued her dominant play, adding 30 kills across all three matches to her season total. The Hornets close out the regular season with a 15-18 record, besting last year’s regular season record by one win. The hornets look forward to hosting a tough regional next week!
Sophomore In a tough final week of the regular season, the Sophomore team went 2-1, defeating Hinsdale Central and Tinley Park while falling to conference rival DGS. Zoha Khan provided a consistent swing at the right side position that the Hornets relied on throughout the week. Huge contributions from Jillian Ockrim help propel the hornets to a positive final week to the regular season.
Freshman A The A team had a challenging final week to the season, dropping matches to DGS, Hinsdale Central, and Tinley Park. The Hornets then played in a difficult Hornet Invite on Saturday to round out their regular season. The Hornets played hard and showed some significant improvement, showing that there are some serious bright spots in the future!
Freshman B The B team unfortunately dropped their final two matches of the season against DGS and Hinsdale Central. While the Hornets were on the wrong side of the win column this week, the team showed wonderful determination and adaptability throughout the season.
Week of October 14th
Varsity The varsity team was sniffing an upset this week against Willowbrook, but unfortunately fell short in 3 sets to the reigning class 4a state 3rd place team. Kaleia Lin and Mia Wiley caught fire from the service line, helping the hornets to their single set win. A balanced attack on the evening saw Lexi Fedinec have 9 kills on 18 swings, leading to a .444 hitting percentage. While the hornets did not come out on top, this was certainly a growing experience and showed that we can compete with big time teams.
Sophomore The sophomore hornets pulled out a high 3 set marathon win against Willowbrook 24-26, 25-22, 25-23. They played like a veteran, experienced team and brought consistent energy throughout the match. Charley Cook was a force for the hornets, with timely aggressive serving from Khadijah Bengali peppered in to help lead the hornets to a huge conference win! The sophomores also traveled to the St. Charles North invite over the weekend where they went 3-1!
Freshman A The Freshman A team lost a tight match to Willowbrook 22-25, 22-25. The Hornets were neck and neck with the Warriors for most of the match, but ultimately couldn’t pull out the win in crunch time. Viki Iwaniec provided a huge boost to the hornets with both her play and positive leadership. The team looks forward to resetting before a huge final week of regular season play.
Freshman B The Freshman B came out of Willowbrook with a huge 25-18, 25-20 conference win! Maylove Rassi and Grace Mokrzycki led the Hornets who have showed consistency in back to back weeks! The B team is on the up and up heading into the final week of the season!
Week of October 7th
Varsity The hornets finished the week 1-1 with a win over Leyden and a long three set loss to Elmwood Park. The team was led from the service line by Katarina Damis and Lexi Fedinec with 6 and 5 aces respectfully. Kotryna Melstrad amassed 24 kills and passed a 2.6 out of 3 serve receive rating. The hornets look forward to continuing conference play against Willowbrook next week!
Sophomore The sophomore hornets lost two tough 3 set matches against Leyden and Elmwood Park. The hornets were led offensively by Charley Cook, with strong assists by Desi Ivanova and Ava Schrier. Payton Hallman held down the defense for the hornets that ultimately was scrappy and aggressive, but couldn’t convert in the end.
Freshman A The Freshman A team fell to conference foe Leyden, but rebounded nicely with a strong win against Elmwood park 25-16, 25-21. The Hornets were led by Kaydence Burton and Natalie Martin at the setting position, with Maddy Steckel providing some much needed offense. The hornets look forward to a tough road test at Willowbrook next week.
Freshman B The Freshman B team suffered a tough loss to Leyden, but came back the following day to take a commanding win at Elmwood Park 25-9, 25-10. The Hornets were led by Danielle Cijunelis, who has shown significant improvement throughout the season! This was one of the most consistent matches the B team has played, and they look forward to a challenge at Willowbrook next week.
Week of September 30th
Varsity The hornets fell to a strong Lemont team in two sets on Monday, but rebounded in a fantastic way on Tuesday to beat Morton on Senior Night. All 11 seniors were celebrated and played great enroute to a 2-0 sweep of Morton. Hailey Radicker and Maddy Ventimiglia contributed 5 and 3 kills respectively, while Lexi Fedinec tossed 4 aces. The Hornets then fell to Providence Catholic on Wednesday. The team look forward to continuing conference play against Leyden next week!
Sophomore The Sophomore hornets started off the week with some strong conference play against Morton, winning 25-15, 25-10. The defense was held down by Payton Hallman at libero. The Hornets then fell to Providence Catholic, but rebounded with some strong play at the Geneva Invite over the weekend. Charley Cook led the offense, providing a reliable attack that scored with both power and placement.
Freshman A The freshmen A hornets started off the busy week with a hard fought match vs Lemont. They took the undefeated team to 3 but unfortunately lost in the 3rd set 19-25. The hornets bounced back on Tuesday with a win against Morton taking it in 2 sets 25-21 and 25-9. Then on Wednesday, played hard against a polished Providence team. Didn't pull out a win, but there were many bright spots throughout the week. The amount of blocks this team had this week was more than the entire team has had the whole season so far!
Freshman B Freshman B started their week off with a win against Morton. The ladies took it to three games. Grace Mokrzycki and Violet Drahos both had two aces. On Wednesday the ladies lost to Providence Catholic. Taylor Marshall has two great blocks.
Week of September 23rd
Varsity The varsity team completed a perfect 3-0 week this week with quality wins over Fenwick, Montini, and Glenbard South. All three of these teams are significant 3A powerhouses, so the Hornets jumped up the state rankings with these significant wins. Across these three matches, Kotryna Melstrad had 40 kills and hit .309, while Mia Wiley chipped in with 8 aces on 39 attempts.
Sophomore The ladies had a busy week with three matches and a tournament. The ladies lost to a talented Fenwick team and a talented Montini team. The ladies were excited for their 3-set match against Glenbard South, where they were victorious. Sophomore Paige Lilek and Junior Kaleia Lin accompanied some sophomore team members at the Addison Trail Junior Varsity Invite. The team was 5-0 over the weekend and took first place in the tournament. The team had big wins over Glenbard South, Leyden, Elgin, Hoffman Estates, and Addison Trail. Paige Lilek and Kaleia Lin showed their talent on the court and leadership skills throughout the day.
Freshman A The A team had some difficult matches this week, dropping matches to Fenwick, Montini, and Glenbard South. The team fought hard, and was led by some strong play by Victoria Iwanec. The A team looks forward to learning from some of the mistakes of the week and moving forward as a group!
Freshman B Freshman B went 2-1 this week. On Monday the ladies played Fenwick and put up a good fight lost 18-25 and 19-25. On Wednesday Freshman B fought hard and won in three against Montini. First set 25-15, 25-27 and 25-22. Danielle Cijunelis and Mady Thomas carried the team with serves both having three aces. Maylove Rassi had her first kill in the middle. On Thursday Freshman B played Glenbard South and won 25-9 and 25-23. Maylove Rassi had two aces and Tess Kholoki carried the team scoring 9 points in a row! The Hornets are looking forward to our games next week.
Week of September 16th
Varsity The varsity team started off the week with a commanding win over conference opponent Proviso West before dropping a hard fought match to St. Laurence. The Hornets then traveled to the Glenbard West Tournament this past weekend and finished the weekend 3-2 to finish 7th overall. Kotryna Melstrad earned all tournament honors, amassing 48 kills in 5 matches. The team was also led by Mia Wiley with 44 assists and 7 aces, as well as Lexi Fedinec with 45 assists and 29 kills. The team looks forward to an exciting week against 3A rivals Fenwick, Montini, and Glenbard South.
Sophomore The sophomore Hornets racked up their first conference win of the year against Proviso East with a 25-18, 25-14 win over the pirates. Payton Hallman anchored the defense, with Charley Cook providing some much needed offense for the hornets. The Hornets fell to a strong St. Laurence JV squad later in the week. The team looks forward to a full slate of games this week against Fenwick, Montini, and Glenbard South. Go Hornets!
Freshman A Freshmen A started strong with a win against Proviso East beating them 25-20 and 25-3! Maddie Steckel served the majority of the game. They had a tough loss to a solid St. Lawrence team later in the week but ended on a positive note over the weekend with a 4th place finish at the St. Charles North Tournament taking wins from Elgin and Rockford East high schools.
Freshman B Freshman B had a game against Proviso East. The girls fought hard and lost the first set 13-25 and 8-15. Taylor Marshall shined bright playing middle for the first time this season. Freshman B had a home game later that week and the ladies improved from their game against Proviso but lost 12-25 and 16-25. Natalie Denwood showed strong defense playing back row against St. Laurence.
Week of September 9th
Varsity The varsity team suffered a tough loss to Addison Trail, but rebounded well with a convincing win against Richards. The team was led by strong serving from Mia Wiley, Lexi Fedinec, and Kotryna Melstrad. Maeve Savage and Isabel Rios-Tejeda manned the net effectively, acting as forces in the middle position. The team looks forward to continuing conference play against Proviso East this week, and a tough test against a strong St. Laurence squad.
Sophomore The sophomore Hornets volleyball team had a busy week. The ladies started the week out with their first home game against Addison Trail. The ladies put forth their best effort in a tough match but were defeated in two sets. The ladies were excited for their win against Richards high school on 9/11. Over the weekend, the ladies placed 4th place at the Oak Forest Invite, with two wins and two losses. We were excited to see Lexie Krupa at the outside this weekend and look forward to continue seeing her grow in the position. Payton Hallman demonstrated outstanding skills as a libero throughout the tournament. Lastly, the team is excited to see ninth-grader Jillian Ockrim step it up on the outside and continue to be a consistent player on the court.
Freshman A The freshmen Hornets hosted their first home game vs. Addison Trail on Tuesday. It was a hard fought match with the hornets falling to the trailblazers 19-25 and 15-25. The Hornets did not let the loss get them down, as they traveled to Richards High School the next day to secure their first win of the season 25-7 and 25-15! They were in control the whole night and had great swings by Kajal Kapur and awesome net plays by Alani Flowers and Emanuella Monogios.
Freshman B Freshman B fought hard during their first home game against Addison Trail first set 24-26 and second set 18-25. Grace Mokrzycki was a strong leader on the court and had several aces against Addison Trail.
Week of September 2nd
Varsity The Hornets picked up their first win of the year against perennial sectional finalist De La Salle with a convincing 2-0 win. The hornets followed up the win with a hard fought loss to a strong Homewood Flossmoor team. The hornets continued tournament play by traveling to southern Illinois to play in the Lady Tiger Classic at Richland County High School. The team played some of their best volleyball of the season and earned a 6th place finish. Junior Kotryna Melstrad led the hornets on offense averaging over 10 kills per match with a .286 hitting percentage. Middles Maeve Savage and Isabel Rios-Tejeda also chipped in with timely blocks, averaging 2.7 and 2.7 blocks per match respectively.
Sophomore The Sophomore Hornet Volleyball team had a busy week. The ladies played De La Salle and Homewood Flossmoor. The team had an exciting 3-game win against De La Salle. They pulled together to rally a victory in the third set. Zoha Khan and Desi Ivanova led the team in the win. The ladies played a great game against the Homewood Flossmoor team. Unfortunately, the ladies could not secure a victory. We are excited for a busy week of games and a tournament.
Freshman A The freshmen A hornets started their season against DeLaSalle on Tuesday night. Even though it didn't produce the outcome they wanted, it led them to make some positive changes for the next night's match against Homewood Flossmoor. The girls fought hard in a 3 set match winning the first set 25-21, losing the second set in a nail biter 25-27, then unfortunately dropping the match 13-25. All around it was a week of great learning and they are excited to take on Addison Trail in their first home game this upcoming week.
Freshman B Freshman B won their first game against De La Salle! Captain Mady Thomas led their team to victory with strong serves and sets. The hornets fought hard against Homewood Flossmoor but lost in two sets. We are looking forward to our first home game this week!
Week of August 26th
Varsity After having a match postponed, the varsity squad started regular season play at the Metea Valley Invite. The hornets fought hard and overcame several struggles, yet came out of the tournament winless. Senior Lexi Fedinec earned all-tournament honors. The team looks to bounce back against the always strong De La Salle Institute on Tuesday!
Sophomore The sophomore team started off their season with an impressive display at the St. Charles East Invite. The Hornets finished with a record of 3-1-1 on the day. Charley Cook led the offense while Payton Hallmark provided solid defense at the libero position.
