Varsity The varsity team had an eventful week to finish out the regular season. The team beat Addison Trail on Tuesday to secure 2nd place in the West Suburban Gold Conference. This was the team’s best finish in conference since 2018! The team also participated in the 2023 Volley for the Cure match where we lost to a tough Hinsdale Central squad, but raised funds for breast cancer awareness and research. The team rounded out the regular season with a huge win against Tinley Park on Senior Night. The team outlasted Tinley Park in 3 sets to finish the regular season. The team looks forward to further opportunities for success this week as playoffs begin.
Sophomores The sophomore team finished up their final week of the season. The ladies had a huge win against Hinsdale Central during Volley for the Cure. The ladies fought hard in their games this week and had a great season.
Freshman A The freshman A team finished their season with a BANG! This busy week started off with a hard-fought win vs. Addison Trail! Then a battle to the finish vs. Hinsdale Central ended in a loss with a score of 16-18 in the third game! Such a great night for such a great cause! The freshman team ended their regular season with a solid win vs. Tinley Park in two sets. The season's grand finale was the Hornet Invite which was a great day with great competition! On Saturday, we had a combined team taking wins from Shepard, Romeoville, and Hinsdale Central! Everyone did great, and Payton Hallman and Emily Musil even got compliments from multiple players and referees! THANK YOU HORNETS FOR SUCH A GREAT SEASON!
Freshman B The final week, the season went fast but we had a lot of fun and a lot of growth. Our final conference game against Addison Trail and a huge win!!!! We kept that energy up going into Volley for the Cure against Central. We fought hard and improved so much from playing them 2 weeks prior, 22-25 and 15-25. Overall we had a great time coming together as a district to support a great cause! We ended our season at the Hornet Invite and really reflected on the entire season. Super proud of our girls and so excited for their bright futures!
Week of October 9th
Varsity The Varsity team notched one of our best wins of the season this week, defeating conference rival Downers Grove South in straight sets to move to 4-1 in conference play. Claudia Budzak had 4 aces, Kotryna Melstrad added 6 kills, and Katarina Damis chipped in with some strong serve receive. The Hornets then dropped a match to a tough Joliet Catholic squad to finish out the week. We look forward to wrapping up the regular season with games against Addison Trail, Hinsdale Central, and Tinley Park this week.
Sophomore The sophomore Hornets had a busy week with two games and a tournament on Saturday. The ladies played aggressive and put their best effort forward for all games. The ladies placed 4th out of 12 teams at the St. Charles North Invite and had some close matches against some strong teams. The ladies are excited for the Volley for the Cure match against Central.
Freshman A Freshmen A had a rough week with two hard fought losses against Downers Grove South and Joliet Catholic Academy. The Hornets are shaking these matches off and ready for three straight games and a home tournament next week.
Freshman B A huge week for Hinsdale South Freshman B with a BIG win over Downers Grove South! The girls worked together on the court and pulled out another conference win. Ava Scheirer led the team with great leadership on the court and great sets for our hitters. We then rolled into Joliet Catholic which was a tough game and unfortunately lost but kept the energy high for the weekend tournament. West Chicago was an A tournament that B played in and rocked it! We put up some good fights against West Chicago and Bolingbrook and were able to beat Morton A! Lots of great serves from Emma Sicar, huge digs from Gianna Linder and overall great teamwork.
Week of October 2nd
Varsity The varsity team dropped a hard fought conference match to Willowbrook, but rebounded nicely against Elmwood Park. Kotryna Melstrad and Claudia Budzak led the hornets offensively in the match by chipping in 7 and 6 kills, respectively. The offense was paced by Sophia Schiappa with 22 assists. The Hornets continue conference play this week against DGS and round out play this week with a tough test against Joliet Catholic Academy.
Sophomores The sophomore team was defeated by a tough Willowbrook team. The team recovered strongly the next day with a win against Elmwood Park. The ladies are looking forward to playing Downers Grove South and Joliet Catholic this week. They are also looking forward to their last tournament this weekend.
Freshman A Freshman A had a fantastic week with back-to-back wins vs. conference rival Willowbrook and Elmwood Park. The Hornets were in full control vs. Willowbrook, not allowing the team to score above 20 points and beat them in 2 sets. Things got even better on Wednesday vs. Elmwood Park when they kept their opponent under 10 points in both sets. As the season is coming to an end, the Hornets are looking to push through and end strong.
Freshman B Another fabulous week for Freshman B! We started the week with another conference match against Willowbrook. The girls really worked together and got the W after battling in 3. Great serves from Kaylee Marth and Emma Sicar which helped us get the lead and overall get the win. Elmwood Park was the next day and the girls were unstoppable! Two quick sets; 25-12 and 25-9 for the W. Two great wins this week and ready to continue that energy for DGS next week!
Week of September 25th
Varsity The Varsity team had an exciting week that included defeating Leyden to move to 3-0 in conference play. The hornets also faced off against Providence Catholic High School in a match that had a playoff feel to it. While we ultimately lost in 3 sets, the team took a huge step forward and proved that we are able to compete with some of the top teams in our class. Kotryna Melstrad racked up 20 kills and 22 digs between the two matches. Lexi Fedinec chipped in an additional 16 kills on the week and the offense was paced by Sophia Schiappa with 48 assists between the two matches. The varsity hornets look forward to tough tests this upcoming week against Willowbrook and Elmwood Park.
Sophomores The sophomore volleyball team had a great week of hard work. The ladies defeated Leyden in 3 sets, returning from a first-set loss. The ladies played competitively this weekend at our tournament and were able to pull through with strong victories. The ladies were excited to see some new faces on the court throughout the tournament matches. The team is excited to return to the main gym at Hinsdale South for our game this week.
Freshman A Freshman A has a competitive week, starting with a conference win over Leyden. The team looked in control and their progression this season is evident. Later in the week, the Hornets took on Providence Catholic and fought hard for 3 straight sets. Unfortunately could not pull off a win, but the girls did not give up and there were so many positives during the match. Ready for another conference match-up this upcoming week.
Freshman B Freshman B played with some great energy last week in a hard fight against Leyden losing in 3 but bouncing back for Thursday's game at Providence Catholic with a big win! The Hornets beat the Celtics 25-13 and 25-12 with some huge defensive plays by Ava Scheirer, great serves from Beatrice Bartninkas, and overall great teamwork on the court. Looking forward to two big games this week and the Freshman B Quad at Hinsdale Central!
Week of September 18th
Varsity The Varsity team had a successful week logging two wins over Morton and Glenbard South. The Hornets were led by Claudia Budzak, who amassed 15 kills between the two matches, Grace Heaney, who was efficient with 10 kills on 17 attempts, and Sophia Schiappa, who paced the offense by averaging 10.75 assists per set this week. The Hornets look forward to continuing strong conference play against Leyden this week, as well as facing off against a strong Providence Catholic team on Thursday.
JV The JV team got the chance to participate in the Addison Trail Invite this weekend. The Hornets played a long schedule, with 4 of 5 matches going to a decisive third set. The Hornets were led by the combined efforts of Maeve Savage and Vasilia Polizois. The JV Hornets will continue to work hard in practice in order to prepare for a tough match against Hinsdale Central at the end of the season.
Sophomores The Hornets had a successful week. The sophomores beat Morton and Glenbard South. It was great to see the team coming together. The ladies were led by sophomore outside hitter Taryn Bazon and sophomore Kaleia Lin. The ladies were also excited to see a strong performance from Charly Cook in the Glenbard South game.
Freshman A Freshman A had a very successful week with back to back wins! First win of the week was a conference match. It was a hard fought 3 game set with Morton but the Hornets pulled it out. Second win of the week was against Glenbard South. The team looked in control the whole match and played some great volleyball!
Freshman B Another great week for Freshman B with two wins! The ladies played awesome against Morton for a conference win. Lots of energy on the court even with some playing new positions. Allison Wiley stepped up and played right side all the way around and had great serves. Glenbard South was another win after battling in 3 games. Ava Scheirer played great at the net, being aggressive and getting multiple digs. Excited for another great week with 2 games.
Week of September 11th
Varsity The varsity team battled hard against St. Laurence, a team we are hoping to match up against in the playoffs later this season, but ultimately fell. The Hornets navigated a tough Glenbard West invite to finish 8th overall, with Lexi Fedinec leading the Hornets and earning all tournament honors! The Hornets look forward to rebounding this week against conference opponent Morton on the 19th!
Sophomore The Hornets battled against St. Laurence this week, but unfortunately could not come away with a victory. The ladies look forward to their matchups this week and will work hard to be victorious.
Freshman A Freshman A had a tough week against St. Laurence and a long day at the Batavia High School Invitational, with a win against St. Edward's. But Emily Musil rocked it and got compliments from even the referee! They are ready to switch gears and take on Morton and Glenbard South this week!
Freshman B Another busy week for Freshman B! Wednesday was away at St. Lawrence for a tough match. Unfortunately we lost in two but the energy the girls showed on the court was awesome. Gianna Linder helped the team with lots of great defense and Ava Scheirer led the team with serves and some great sets to our hitters. Saturday was our first tournament for the B team and we were at the Batavia tournament where we played 5 different teams; Minooka, Wheaton North, Batavia, Naperville North, and Yorkville. We battled against them all and ended up only winning against Batavia. Allison Wiley rocked playing DS as well as Outside Hitter when we had an injury. Allison even got the opportunity to serve and made them all over! We had a lot of teamwork, improvements from last game, and are looking forward to our next tournament!
Week of September 4th
Varsity The Varsity squad started off the week with two solid wins over Proviso East and Richards. The offense was paced by Kotryna Melstrad and Claudia Budzak with 16 and 13 kills respectively between the two matches, and Mia Wiley with 8 aces as well. The Hornets traveled to the Crossroads Classic in Effingham, IL over the weekend and played some of the best volleyball of the season. Solid wins over strong opponents such as Champaign Central and Althoff Catholic High were the highlights of the weekend. We look forward to a tough match this week against St. Laurence!
Sophomore The Sophomore team saw a successful week roll into the weekend with a 4th place finish at the Oak Forest invite. The team was led by Kaleia Lin and Charley Cook in a week that saw quality wins over Proviso East and Richards. The hornets look forward to a tough challenge this week against St. Laurence.
Freshman A Another exciting weekend for Freshman A at the St. Charles North Tournament. A lot of great competition but the hornets worked hard and took home a 2nd place finish! Some big wins against Rockford East, St. Charles North, and Metea Valley before heading to the championship against Nazareth. Huge shout out to Karly Janis for having phenomenal serves the entire day, Emily Musil for unbelievable defense, and Payton Hallman for being a leader on the court. It’s been a great start to the season and freshman a is ready for another big tournament next weekend!
Freshman B The first conference game and conference win for Freshmen B! 25-7 and 25-18 versus Proviso East. All girls played great with some more great serves from Kaylee Marth and Allison Wiley! Ari Mladenik had a great game with some big plays at the net and Gianna Linder had great defense. Overall a huge improvement from last week and super excited for our first tournament this upcoming weekend.
Week of August 28th
Varsity The Varsity team worked through a difficult week with 3 losses against De La Salle, Homewood Flossmoor, and Lockport. Jane Gallagher and Mia Wiley provided a spark off the bench to help the hornets. The team looks forward to opening up conference play this week against Proviso East, then traveling to Effingham for the crossroads classic! It’s shaping up to be a big week for the Hornets to rebound and grow as a team.
Sophomore The Sophomore Girl’s Volleyball team had a busy week with 3 games. The team pulled off a win against Homewood Flossmoor in 3 games. The Hornets were led by sophomore Taryn Bazon with 6 kills. The Hornets were also led by Kaleia Lin with 11 digs. The Hornets are looking forward to another week of games
Freshman A Freshmen A had another successful week with back-to-back wins against DeLaSalle and Homewood Flossmoor! Even though Lockport ended their winning streak, it was a hard fought match. Looking forward to playing at home this upcoming week!
Freshman B Freshmen B started their season strong with two wins against De La Salle and Homewood Flossmoor. Kaylee Marth helped lead the team to victories with over 16 serves and Ava Scheirer rocked her first few games setting and being a leader on the court. Lockport was a battle but had great communication on the floor and some great serves. Super excited for our first conference game this week!
Week of August 21st
Varsity The varsity team started off the season with a hard fought loss to reigning sectional finalist Lemont. Over the weekend, the hornets finished 6th in a stacked Metea Valley invite
JV The JV team had a positive performance at the Reavis Quad on Friday. The JV Hornets beat Reavis and Andrew handedly, and ultimately fell to Romeoville. They look to continue work against DGS, Hinsdale Central, and Lyons Township this upcoming week.
Sophomore The sophomore hornets volleyball team had a busy week. The Hornets were led by sophomore Kaleia Lin with 70 digs, sophomore Abigail Alonso with 10 aces, and freshman Paige Lilek 35 assists. The sophomore team put up a fight against Lemont, then followed it up with strong play in the St. Charles East Invite.
Freshman A Freshmen A started the season off with a tough match against Lemont but were able to end the week on a high note when they defeated Homewood Flossmoor, Morton, and Niles North to take a second place finish at the Homewood Flossmoor Invitational. The girls played amazing together and ready for another busy week coming up!
Freshman B The Freshman B had a busy week of practice gearing up for their first competition next week. The team will get a flurry of matches under their belt during the upcoming week, and look to grow as a team.
