Varsity The Hornets had a very busy last week to close out the 2021 volleyball season. On Monday they traveled to York to face the dukes. Despite their best efforts, the hornets fell in two games 16-25, 15-25. Senior setter Brigid Rudolph had 1 service ace, 2 kills, 9 assists and 2 digs on the night. Senior Middle Amelia Brennan also saw 5 kills, and two digs.
On Tuesday the hornets hosted their last home match against rival Hinsdale Central. It was a hard fought game by both teams. Unfortunately, the red devils were able to edge out the hornets in the third game and the red devils came up victorious. The hornets fell in three with scores of 19-25, 25-23, 24-26. Sara Prueter came up big during the match with 1 ace, 4 kills, 1 blocking assist and 4 digs. Setter Madison Tsui had 11 assists and 3 digs. While middle Abranet Layne had an impressive 5 blocking assists, and 8 kills.
Jumping into WSC Gold action the following day the Hornets traveled to Willowbrook to face the Warriors for their last WSC Gold matchup that would determine the conference champion. Both teams battled back and forth and came up even after the first two sets, in the third the warriors were able to pull ahead and serve and held up the hornets. Despite a late end of game push, the Warriors were able to edge out the Hornets winning the series. Hornet scores from that match were 24-26, 27-25, 18-25. Senior outside Jenna Mcclelland tallied 7 kills, 2 digs and 1 assist. Gianna Jason had 5 digs and 1 kills during the match. And Cheli Ayala had 2 assists and 22 digs.
In their final game of the season the hornets traveled to Downers Grove North on Thursday to take on the Trojans. Despite a late end of game push the hornets were not able to overcome the Trojans in the first set falling 21-25 and were not able to have the same level of consistency in the second set falling 13-25. Middle Amelia Brennan led the team in kills with 5, she added 3 blocking assists to finish the night. Senior DS Abby Didio had 1 service ace, and passed a 2.0 on the night. Senior Gianna Jason tallied 2 kills, 2 digs and 2 blocking assists. While senior outside Mattea Collier had 9 digs to finish the game.
The hornets had 4 hard fought games to close out their week and despite their record for the week, they played 4 great games of volleyball. A special shout out as well to two players that were chosen as athletes of the week for the short "spring" season; Senior outside Mattea Collier and sophomore libero Chelli Ayala.
Sophomore 4/19 Hinsdale South falls to York 21-25, 23-25, win streak stopped at 6. Hinsdale South (7-2, 5-0) were lead by Savannah Morford (6 kills) Maddie Duckhorn (3 kills, 3 aces) and freshman Grace Heaney (2 kills, 2 blocks). Setter Caroline Olchawa added another 12 assists.
4/20 Hornets comeback falls short, lose to Red Devils 19-25, 25-21, 19-25. Caroline Olchawa tallied 15 assists while Maddie Duckhorn contributed 7 kills.
4/21 Hinsdale South takes down Willowbrook 25-15, 25-19 to win the conference championship! Hinsdale South (8-3, 6-0) completed their conference season undefeated with a win over the Warriors. Caroline Olchawa tallied 16 assists often finding Maddie Duckhorn (10 kills, 3 aces) and Savannah Morford (7 kills). Amelia Hoch contributed a rock solid serve receive and defensive effort not only tonight but all season long. Big congratulations to Maddie, Savannah, Erika, Caroline, Amelia, Kerrigan, Theo, Maria, Keely, and Grace on a great season and and a conference championship!
4/22 Hornets lose a close one to DGN in season finale 24-26, 18-25 Hinsdale South (8-4, 6-0) was lead by Maddie Duckhorn (8 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks), Savannah Morford (5 kills, 2 blocks and Caroline Olchawa (13 assists, 2 aces). The Hornets finish the season with a l. Overall 8-4 record and a 6-0, conference championship record in the West Suburban Conference Gold Division.

Week of April 12th
Varsity The hornets came up with a big win against Downers Grove South on Monday with scores of 25-20 and 25-19. Senior setter Madison Tsui showed off her serving skills with 6 aces during the match and added 9 assists and 6 digs. Junior outside Sara Prueter had 5 kills, 1 blocking assist and 1 dig during the match. Jenna Mcclelland also came up big on the night with 4 kills, 1 service ace, 1 blocking assist, 6 setting assists, and 7 digs.
The hornets followed up the big win over DGS with another great performance on Tuesday when they hosted the Addison Trail Blazers, the hornets cruised to victory with scores of 25-19, 25-22. Freshman setter Sophia Schiappa recorded 2 serving assists during the match and also notched 1 assist, 2 digs and 1 kill. Senior outside Mattea Collier had an impressive night with 6 kills and 9 digs. Setter Peyton Wiley also tallied 4 assists, 4 digs, and 1 kill.
On Thursday the hornets faced another WSC gold opponent traveling to Proviso East. The Hornets started out strong behind fantastic serving from setter Brigid Rudloph who went on a serving run to start the game and tallied 5 service aces and went on a 15 point run. She also noted 2 kills, 6 assists and 2 digs. Libero Cheli Ayala also noted 5 digs, 2 setting assists, 1 service ace and passed a 2.0 during the match. The hornets cruised to victory with scores of 25-9, 25-12.
Next week the Hornets have a busy week to close out the 2021 season. They travel to York on Monday, host Hinsdale Central on Tuesday, travel to Willowbrook on Wednesday for their final WSC gold matchup and lastly travel to Downers Grove North on Thursday.
Sophomore 4/12 Hinsdale South (5-1, 3-0) prevail over conference foe Downers Grove South 25-11, 25-15. The Hornets came out swinging lead by Savannah Morford (8 kills, 2 blocks, 1 ace) and Maddie Duckhorn (6 kills, 1 block, 1 ace). Caroline Olchawa set the table with 19 assists. Theo Georgiagis put the DGS serve receive on their heels all game contributing 6 aces.
4/13 Hornets (6-1, 4-0) defeat Addison Trail 25-17, 25-18 for 5th straight win. Caroline Olchawa (2 kills, 2 aces) again lead the charge tallying 20 assists and Maddie Duckhorn had a massive game racking up 13 kills. Savannah Morford added 7 kills for South.
4/15 Hornets serving barrage sinks Pirates 25-6, 25-15 Hinsdale South (7-1, 5-0) tallied 20 aces on the night with contributions from Maria Georgiagis (6), Theo Georgiagis (1), Maddie Duckhorn (2), Caroline Olchawa (3), and Amelia Hoch (8). The game was also evenly distributed by Olchawa (6 assists), Hoch (5 assists) and Theo Georgiagis (6 assists). Maddie Duckhorn (6 kills) lead the hitting attack with other contributions from Keely Sullivan (5 kills) and Kerrigan Long (4 kills). Freshman

Varsity The week the varsity team had two home matches against Leyden on Tuesday and celebrated our seniors on Wednesday at home against Proviso West.
On Tuesday the hornets faced West Suburban Gold opponent Leyden and won with scores 25-17, 25-14. Junior outside Sara Prueter had 2 digs, 5 kills and passed a 2.0 during the match. Libero Cheli Ayala tallied an impressive 7 aces and 4 digs during the game. Middle Abranet Layne led the team in kills with 6 during the game and also saw 2 digs. Setter Brigid Rudolph had 11 setting assists, 2 service aces, 1 kill and 4 digs.
Our seniors shined bright on Wednesday winning in two games against Proviso West with scores 25-17 in game 1 and 25-19 in game 2. Jenna Mcclelland tallied 5 service aces on the night and added 1 kill and 1 blocking assist. Brigid Rudolph had 4 service aces, 2 kills, 2 blocking assists, 11 assists and 1 dig. Gianna Jason added 5 kills and 1 blocking assist. While, Mattea Collier had 5 kills, 1 setting assist, and 1 dig. Middle Amelia Brennan also tallied 5 kills, 2 blocking assists and 1 dig. Setter Madison Tsui had 1 dig and 9 setting assists in the match. Libero Abby Didio saw a serve receive rating of a 2.08 on the match with 5 digs, and 1 setting assist. And Sorayah Ankney had 5 digs in the match. The hornets have a busy 2 weeks left in their season with games next week against Downers Grove South, Addison Trail and Proviso West.
Sophomore 4/6/21 Hornets (3-1, 2-0) beat Leyden 25-18, 25-19 in conference action. South was set up by setter Caroline Olchawa (14 assists, 3 aces) and powered by middle Erika Radenkovic (8 kills, 1 block) and outside hitter Kerrigan Long (6 kills). Strong serving performances by Maddie Duckhorn, Amelia Hoch and Savannah Morford (3 aces each).
4/7/21 Hornets (4-1, 2-0) cruise past Proviso West 25-12, 25-6. Setter Caroline Olchawa leads the way with 9 aces and 10 assists. The Hornets were powered by Maddie Duckhorn (7 kills, 4 aces), Kerrigan Long (4 kills), and Savannah Morford (4 aces).
Freshman This week the Hornets took on Leyden at their home court. While Freshmen A couldn’t snag the win, there were many notable mentions. Both Annika and Hailey had a service-in percentage at 100%. The Hornets accumulated 11 kills, 19 digs, and 6 services aces.
Freshmen B didn’t go down without a fight. Together, they fought hard to earn: 8 services aces, 15 kills, and 26 digs. Ella held a service-in percentage at 100%. Next week, the Hornets have a full schedule with many opportunities for redemption.
Week of March 22nd
Varsity In our second week of play the hornets hosted West Suburban Conference Opponent Morton at home on Thursday night. The hornets were missing key starters on the night and new players stepped up to fill critical roles on the court. Despite their attempts the hornets fell to Morton with scores 20-25, 25-27 and were unable to finish despite a late effort push to pull ahead and win. Middle Abranet Layne led the team in kills for the night and notched 6 kills while also contributing 2 solo blocks. New starting setters Peyton Wiley and Sophia Schiappa got in the action too with Peyton serving 2 aces, 7 assists and 3 digs. While Sophia added 1 ace, 1 kill, 7 assists and 5 digs. Middle Amelia Brennan also contributed 3 kills, 1 solo block and 1 dig. It was a tough loss for the hornets who look to rebound after spring break with 3 busy weeks of play.
Sophomore
Freshman In our second week of play the Hornets hosted West Suburban Conference Opponent Morton Mustangs at home on Thursday night. While the Hornets were missing a few key starters, that did not stop others from stepping up to fill those roles on the court. The Hornets fought hard to defeat the Mustangs 16-25, 25-11, 27-25. Kyra Harrison led the Hornets with 4 aces. Claudia Budzak and Hailey Bishop each had 4 great offensive kills. Honorable mentions include Noelle, who played Libero, and Tessa, who played Middle for Amerie. Great job, Hornets!
Week of March 15th
Varsity Tuesday, we had our home opener against Glenbard West. The hornets lost in 2 close games to the hilltoppers with scores 17-25, 23-25. Outside attacker Jenna McClelland notched 6 kills on the night and outside/right-side Gianna Jason had 2 kills, and 6 digs. Setter Brigid Rudolph added 1 service ace, 2 kills, 1 blocking assist and 11 assists.
On Thursday the hornets traveled to Oak Park to face cross conference opponent the huskies. The hornets fought hard but ultimately fell in three with scores of 25-22, 11-25, and 28-30. Libero Cheli Ayala tallied 3 assists and 13 digs during the match. Setter Madison Tsui contributed 16 assists and 12 digs connecting well with middle hitter Abranet Layne who tallied 5 kills and 1 block respectively out of the middle. Outside attacker Jenna McClelland assisted her team with an impressive 13 kills on the night with 2 service aces and 11 digs in the tough loss.
Sophomore
Freshman Tuesday, we had our home opener match against Glenbard West. The Hornets succumbed to first match jitters and lost in 2 sets to the Hilltoppers with scores 3-25, 17 -25.
On Thursday the Hornets traveled to Oak Park to face cross-conference opponent OPRF Huskies. The Hornets fought hard and split the match. Hornets dropped the first set 16-25. They rallied back during the second set winning 25-19. The Hornets scored 4 aces in both sets with Libero Kyra Harrison serving-in percentage of 100%. The Hornets also raked up 10 kills and 3 blocks. Great job Hornets!
Week of March 8th This week we were excited to kick off the delayed 2020-2021 girls’ volleyball season. Everyone worked hard in tryouts and teams were selected at the end of the week. Next week we have our home opener against Glenbard West and travel to Oak Park to face OPRF.
