Varsity Hornets are ready for post season play.After going one and one during the week, defeating willowbrook and then losing to Central in their Volley for the Cause match the Hornets bounced back to defeat Central on Friday in two sets. The battle versus both Normal and New Trier but lost two heart breakers. They went on to again battle but lose to Fewick but then bounced back and defeat a strong Whitney Young team! Everyone contributed this weekend making it a TRUE team effort as we suffered a few injuries but still battled. The Hornets start their post season on Monday evening versus Simeon and then will face DGN again. The Hornets defeated DGN in an awesome three game set just a week ago.The girls are looking to make a run and make it happen in the post season.
Sophomore The hornets wrapped up their last week of the season with a conference game against Willowbrook in which they lost in 2 17-25, 19-25. Claire Zipsie had 7 kills for the night, Megan Mihalkanin racked up 3 service aces, and Alayna Chavez had one block. Heather McDavid, Megan Mihalkanin, Clarissa Marron and Mia Lombardo each had 2 digs for the night. The hornets hosted the volley for the cure event against Hinsdale central on Wednesday but unfortunately fell in two games 23-25, 12-25. Alayna Chavez led the team in kills with 5 for the night, Heather McDavid had 5 assists, Megan Mihalkanin had 4 digs followed by Clarissa Marron and Claire Zipsie with three apiece. Alayna and Emily Kurley also had a double block during the match. The team wrapped things up in the St Charles East tournament placing third and taking home a plaque to end their season. The hornets lost the first game in 3 25-15, 22-25, 10-25 against the host school and followed that up with 4 consecutive wins against Larkin 25-15, 25-7, Wheaton North 25-22, 25-14, West Chicago 25-23, 27-25 and Glenbard West 25-22, 25-21. Claire Zipsie had 21 kills for the day, followed by Mia Lombardo with 16 kills and Alayna Chavez with 13 kills, Clarissa Marron also helped contributed 10 kills. Heather McDavid had 12 service aces Saturday followed by Emily Kurley with 10. Heather McDavid had 46 assists and Clarissa Marron had 25 assists for the day. Emily Kurley racked up 10 digs followed by Megan Mihalkanin with 6 and Mia Lombardo with 7. Thank you girls for your hard work and dedication this season, good luck with your club seasons we hope to see you next fall. Freshman A The Freshmen A girls’ volleyball team had a very successful week. We were victorious over Willowbrook defeating the last conference opponent placing us in 1st place in our conference. We also defeated our rivals Hinsdale Central in an exciting three set match during the Volley for the Cause event.

Week of October 10th
Varsity
JV This week JV played their last matches of the season. We played at the Libertyville tournament on the 15th. We ended up taking second place. Our only lose was to DGS. Marilyn Crutchfield and Mackenzie Moss helped lead the team to a 4-1 day. What a great season for the Hornet JV team!
Sophomore This week the hornets hosted Leyden on Tuesday; they lost 20-25 both games in the west suburban gold matchup. Claire Zipsie led the team with 6 kills followed by Alayna Chavez with 4 kills. Heather McDavid racked up 9 assists and Clarissa Marron had 8 assists for the night. Alayna Chavez also had 3 blocks for the match. On Thursday the hornets traveled to Downers Grove North and fought in two tough battles falling 17-25, 21-25 in a competitive match. Mia Lombardo and Claire Zipsie each had 3 kills for the game; Heather McDavid had 6 assists for the game. On Saturday the team participated in the St. Charles North tournament and finished in third place. The first match of the day they beat Larkin 25-21, 25-23. In the next pool play game they beat Burlington Central 25-23, 25-17. In the playoff semifinals they fell in 3 sets 25-23, 18-25, 8-15. In the third place final the hornets beat Cary Grove 28-26, 25-15. Emily Kurley racked up 15 kills for the day followed by Mia Lombardo with 11 kills and Kasey Hurley with 9 kills. Mia Lombardo playing in the middle on Saturday also contributed with 14 blocks for the day. Heather McDavid had 24 assists and 12 aces. Clarissa Marron had 20 assists for the day, Megan Mihalkanin also had 10 service aces. This week the hornets travel to Willowbrook for the last West Suburban Gold conference matchup, they will host the volley for the cure match on Wednesday and will finish off their season in the St. Charles East tournament on Saturday.
Freshman A Last week we beat Leyden & DGN. We played in a tournament at West Chicago. The girls played hard all day and took 2nd place! Our middles Mariah Davis and Dominique Coleman played tough and have improved immensely since the beginning of the year!

Week of October 3rd
Varsity The Hornets defeated Morton on Tuesday evening behind the defense of Addie Glisan and Sydney Benson. The following evening they lost to Naperville North but played well just committed too many unforced errors against a strong Naperville North team. Over the weekend the Hornets competed in the St Charles East Mizuno Cup, the Hornets dropped both matches on Friday evening but played some of the BEST volleyball they have played all season! On Saturday the girls were able to string two wins in a row together! They continued to battle on Saturday and play good volleyball. With the post season only two weeks away we are excited about the way we are playing now Addie Glisan and Sydney Benson will both be the volleyball player of the week this week
JV On Monday we played our last LT Quad. We ended up going 1-2. We also had a tough lose to Neuqua Valley on Wednesday night. The girls played really tough
Sophomore This week the hornets hosted West Suburban Gold conference opponent Morton and won in two games 25-13, 25-16. Emily Kurley, Claire Zipsie and Mia Lombardo each contributed 3 kills to the match. Heather McDavid had 6 assists for the day and Clarissa Marron had 5 assists. Wednesday the hornets hosted the Nequa Valley Wildcats, the hornets fell in two games 14-25, 17-25. That match Claire Zipsie racked up 6 kills, Megan Mihalkanin contributed 6 digs and Alayna Chavez had 3 blocks for the match. Next week the hornets will host Leyden and travel to Downers Grove North high school wrapping up the week at a St. Charles North tournament.
Freshman A We won against Morton high school and lost a tough match against Nequa Valley. Alexa Giannini and Latia Miller are our outside hitters. They have been doing amazing with passing on serve receive and defense. Latia and Alexa always give us a kill when we need it the most and their blocking skills are improving. Week of September 26th
Varsity The hornets dropped two matches this week to York and Naperville North. The Hornets showed signs of improvement and are anxiously awaiting the return of some of their key players.Veronica Terrell received the athlete of the week for volleyball. she has made vast improvements as the season has gone on. Hornets are looking forward to this week with matches versus conference opponent Morton and then Neuqua Valley
JV This past week JV had a great showing. We were 7-2 for the week. Our week started with a quad at LT. We went 2-1, beating Morton and Wheaton North. Our only lose came to LT. Then on Thursday we had a tough loss to Naperville North. We had great redemption on Saturday though. We came out and went 5-0 at the Praire Ridge tournament. Our toughest match was against Waubonsie Valley, who we had lost to earlier in the year. We played one of our best matches of the season. Mackenzie Moss had some crucial blocks for us. Marilyn Crutchfield hit some great line shots to get our momentum going. Finally our back row was controlled by the outstanding play of Mia Sannasardo. Go Hornets!
Sophomore The hornets traveled to York High School on Wednesday and fell in 2 close sets to the Dukes 24-26, 18-25. Mia Lombardo and Emily Kurley racked up 3 kills each and Alayna Chavez assisted with 2 blocks. On Thursday the hornets hosted the Naperville North huskies, the hornets fell in 2 games 12-25, 11-25. Saturday the hornets participated in the Geneva Invitational; they beat Grant high school in the first match of the day 25-17, 22-25. In the second match they battled with St. Edwards and pulled out a win in 3 games winning 25-17, 22-25, and 15-7. Next the hornets played the host school losing the first game in a competitive match 21-25 and falling in the second game 16-25. The hornets then faced St. Charles East and lost 16-25, 19-25. In the last match of the day the hornets took on Oswego and took a commanding lead from the beginning to win 25-16, 25-15. Claire Zipsie racked up a very impressive 26 kills for the day and Mia Lombardo racked up 17 kills. Clarissa Marron led the team in service aces with 9 followed by Emily Kurley and Claire Zipsie. At the net Alayna Chavez and Claire Zipsie racked up 6 blocks and Mia Lombardo had 5 blocks. This week the hornets play at home Tuesday and Wednesday and will participate in the hornet JV quad on Saturday.
Freshman A Last week we lost a heartbreaker match against York high school and a match against Naperville North. The girls spent the weekend, practicing and recuperating. They’re ready to turn it around this week! I would like to give kudos to our Defensive Specialist, Alexis Bortman for her great sportsmanship. She comes out every game with a smile on her face, she hosted a pasta dinner at her house last week and she’s always encouraging her teammates to do better on and off the court.
Freshman B LT QUAD - LT lost in 2. 24-26, 17-25. Beat Hinsdale central 25-20,25-19. Beat DGS in 3. 25-18,19-25 and 15-12. The girls worked very hard this week. We played some very tough competition this week but the girls never gave up. Monet Keith-Brown was named player of the week. She has improved a lot. Devin Hurley also has played really well defensively.
Week of September 19th
Varsity The Hornets notched another win this week versus Proviso East. The girls volleyball program have been recognizing athletes of the week since the start of the season, so far Abby Millhalkanin, Emily Drenth, Alyssa Errandi and Amanda Pultorak have all been recipients at the varsity level. Since the girls only played on match this week the girls participated in a corn maze challenge and the winning team consisted of Emily Drenth, Mauressa Aver and Kailtly Hruka. It was a great team building day for all!
JV JV had an extremely positive week. They began last week winning all the matches at the Hornet Quad. Marilyn Crutchfield and Emma Axelrod played strong for the hornets in all matches. On Saturday they played at the Addison Trail JV invite. They went 4-1. Their only lose was to Warren. They ended up coming in 2nd place. What a great week for the lady hornets!
Sophomore This week the hornets traveled to Proviso East for another conference match up. They started off with an early lead with key serving from Emily Kurley and never looked back beating the pirates 25-11. In the second game the hornets started where they left off and awesome serving from Mia Lombardo help the hornets’ cruise to an easy victory 25-5. Mia Lombardo led the team in service aces with an impressive 10 aces and about a 15 point run. Emily Kurley and Clarissa Marron each also helped out with 5 aces. The hornets have a busy week next week with games Wednesday, Thursday and a tournament Saturday.
Freshman A We had a victorious match against Proviso East. I would like to highlight one our Middles, Danielle Wayman. She is an essential member to our team and great team player. She encourages her teammates and tries her hardest every match!
Freshman B The freshmen b team continues to work on all aspects of volleyball. Katherine Carder was named player of the week for the b team. Katherine continues to work hard. She has a great attitude and has learned 3 positions since the season starter. Katherine pushes herself to be the best she can be.The team played Proviso East on Tuesday and played very well as a team. Marina and Emily both went on long serving runs.
Week of September 12th
Varsity The Hornets finished off the week strong with getting two wins in the Wheaton Warrenville South Tournament. The Hornets beat Payton and Oak Park River Forrest and also took a very talented Metea team to three games. The Hornets were lead by seniors Emily Drenth and Amanda Pultorak. Pultorak had an great night on Wednesday evening when the tournament started. She shut down some of the best attackers in the state and made very few attacking erros.
Also on Sunday the team got together to support the Susan G Komen foundation at a 5k event. The girls were awesome cheerleaders for the people who were participating in the race! It was a great feeling to come together and do something fun for such a great cause.
JV Last week we played another LT quad. We ended up 0-3 on the night. We started off the night with a lose to LT in two. Our second match was vs Niles. We lost in three. It was a tough fight. Lastly, we lost in two to Neuqua Valley. We are continuing to work hard. Sophomore This week the Hornets hosted the Addison Trail trailblazers, they lost in 2 hard fought games 18-25, 18-25. Heather McDavid led the team in kills with 3 followed by Claire Zipsie with 2 kills. Claire Zipsie, Manna Rassi and Heather McDavid all contributed one service ace during the match. Emily Kurley and Claire Zipsie also each had a great block during the game. Sunday the hornets helped during the Susan G. Komen race for the cure in Lombard, helping to cheer on race finishers as they crossed the finish line. This week the hornets travel to Proviso East for another West Suburban Gold matchup.
Freshman A The girls played hard this week and took 3rd place in a tournament at St Charles North on Saturday. Our Libero Sam Pacentine is consistently a leader on the court. She is key on defense and an essential member to our team dynamic. She is always positive and encourages her teammates on the court.
Freshman B The freshmen B team showed alot of improvement this week. They played in the DGS quad and went 1-2. But their scores against Addison trail and DGS were better than the last time we faced both teams. The communication on the court during the quad was also good.
Week of September 5th
Varsity Hinsdale south lost to DGS this week in their first conference match. They battled in game two but fell short. They also battled Waubonsie Valley and Metea Valley this week losing both but playing much better volleyball. The team is dealing with injuries right now and is hoping to be healthy in the next few weeks. JV The hornets JV volleyball team had an outstanding showing this week. We played Waubonsie Valley on Thursday and lost in two. Then on Friday we bounced back to beat Metea Valley in three for our first home match of the season. Friday night Marilyn Crutchfield helped lead our team to the "W" through her excellent play, leadership and passion for the game. Finally this week we played in a tournament at Waubonsie Valley. We ended going 3-2 on the day. We took 5th place overall which brought us home the consolation bracket champion trophy. Our only loses came to Naperville Central and Benet who ended up taking first and second in the tournament. Saturday Mia Sannasardo really helped control the back row with her stellar passing. Tess Murray helped control our front row through her smart plays and outstanding hitting. Overall it was a great week for the JV team. We are looking forward to this coming week when we play at another LT Quad and a Quad at Plainfield South. Go Hornets!
Sophomore The hornets had a busy and challenging week this week playing against west suburban conference opponents and strong volleyball programs. The week started off traveling to face off against Downers Grove South, the hornets battled back and forth but ultimately fell in 2 games with score 23-25 24-26. Ambrosia Hayes and Clarissa Marron led the team with in service aces with two apiece. Kasey Hurley and Kiley Long led the team in kills with three each. Alayna Chavez and Clare Zipsie also contributed with key blocks during the match.
Thursday the hornets traveled to Waubonsie Valley High School and again battled with the warriors but ultimately fell in the first game 20-25. Passing errors and communication difficulties during the second game led to a hornets loss in game two 15-25. Sydney Puz contributed 4 kills against the warriors, with Mia Lombardo racking up 3 Kills, Emily Kurley and Alayna Chavez each contributing with 2 kills. Manna Rassi racked up three service aces and Alayna Chavez also tallied up two blocks.
Friday the hornets hosted Metea Valley for the first home game of the season. The hornets struggled on serve receive falling in two games 16-25, 18-25.
Saturday the hornets faced tough competition in the Oak Forest Invite, facing off against T.F South first the hornets could not overcome an early deficit and fell 22-25, 21-25. In the second match of the day the team battled against Andrew and lost in two close sets 23-25, 19-25. The last game the sophomores fell to a fast Carl Sandburg offense losing 15-25, 9-25. Claire Zipsie racked up a team high of twelve kills for the day, followed by Kasey Hurely with seven kills for the day. Mia Lombardo lead the team in service aces with seven followed by Clarissa Marron with five aces. Claire Zipsie and Danielle Wayman also racked up a combined seven blocks for the day. The sophomores and varsity teams participated in team bonding this Sunday and hope to apply it on the court in the coming weeks.
Freshman A This week our girls had a very successful week, winning our matches against DGS and Waubonsee high school. Friday night we lost in 3 sets against Metea Valley. I would like to highlight our right side Carly Miller who served and hit extremely well against DGS and Waubonsee. She also helped keep her teammates’ attitudes and energy positive throughout both matches. Carly was asked to play up on Sophomores this Friday and Saturday. I’m proud of Carly and how her season is progressing!

Week of August 29th
Varsity Hornets had only one match this week versus Joliet Catholic. After coming off a strong tournament the prior weekend the girls were hungry to play. Unfortunately we were one starter short for the match due to injury but the girls battled hard losing 23-25 and 24-26. It was quite an exciting match. The girls were lead by their middles offensively, Amanda Pultorak and Veronica Terrell and Emily Drenths back row play was outstanding.
JV The JV volleyball team had a great showing this past week. They went 2-1 at the Lyons Township High School JV quad. They beat Hinsdale Central in two sets. They also beat Antioch in three sets. Their only lose came to LTHS in three sets. Emma Axelrod set three great matches. Marilyn Crutchfield hit many great shots for us on the outside. While Mia Sannasardo played excellent defense as our libero. This coming week we have two matches against Waubonsie Valley and Metea Valley on Thursday and Friday. Then on Saturday they play at the Waubonsie Valley Invite! Let's go Hornets! Sophomore This week the hornets traveled to Joliet Catholic to take on the angels, the hornets fell to the angels in 2 10-25, 8-25 but continued to work on improving their game communication and passing. Next week the hornets have a busy week traveling to Downers Grove south on Tuesday, Waubonsie Valley on Thursday, hosting Metea Valley on Friday, and wrapping up the week at the Oak Forest Invite on Saturday.
Freshman A Last week the girls had lost to JCA, but we learned a lot from that game and have moved forward with lots of practice and team building experiences over the Labor Day Weekend.
Freshman B The freshmen B team continues to develop skills and work as a team. We played JCA this week and some skills as a team have improved and other areas are a work in progress.
Week of August 22nd
Varsity After a long weekend of volleyball the hornets are 3 and 3.After suffering a tough loss to Marist not playing our best volleyball The hornets then played well against Minooka unfortunately losing to the number 2 seed in the tournament and then to rosary but we bounced back and defeated DGS in 2 games and Lemont in 2, the girls looked great and there is a promising future for this group! WOMBAT
JV The JV volleyball team had their first game this week. The team played against Bolingbrook High School on Thursday August 25, 2016.We ended up winning the match in three. The first game was close finishing at 23-15, resulting in a loss for us. The girls came back strong in the second game winning 25-15. We finished out the match winning 25-18. Alyssa Errandi had three great games play outside. Sydney Benson had some great digs for us as well.Please come out and support is this coming week as we have the Lyons Township Quad on August 30th. Go Hornets!
Sophomore On Monday we played our first game of the season against Marist high school. We battled back in forth during the first game with key service aces from Heather McDavid and kills from Jenna Suda and Jasmine Carlson. We unfortunately couldn’t finish them out and fell 18-25 in the first game. The second game we started off slow and could not recover from a point deficit due to passing errors we fell 10-25. This week we worked hard in practice working on our passing, team communication and team bonding. On Saturday everyone worked hard to make the Freshman Hornet Invite a success. Next week we face Joliet Catholic on Thursday.

The freshmen girls a team suffered two losses during this week against Marist and Bolingbrook high school. They had a victorious day on Saturday at the Hinsdale South tournament, placing 2nd. The girls really came together as a team this weekend and showed some amazing talent/team work. I wanted to high light one of captains this week and our fearless setter, Aurora Korfist. She did an amazing job running a 5-1 rotation all day long on Saturday. Aurora takes great direction from her coach and teammates. She also had a 14 point serving streak against IC Catholic Prep. We are looking forward to week of practice and a match against Joliet Catholic Thursday evening!
Freshman B Freshmen B started off the week playing Marist. The team played hard. Need to continue working on serving and serve receive. Thursday the girls played Bolingbrook and looked really good. Both serve receive and serving were better. Saturday at the Hornet Invite we started out strong but than we were struggling. We were able to win a match against St. Viators. We will continue to work hard to improve skills and communication.
