V: Lost 1-3 Our last dual of the season was against Maine South to get our sectional team ready for the post season. Maine South is a decent 2A school with tough teams that gave our sectional lineup some great competition. Addy was our solo win. Ivanna at 2 singles played a very consistent player, which pushed her out of her comfort zone. Both doubles teams played doubles teams that dominated at the net and our girls needed to see that. This match has allowed us to see tougher competition so that we know how to step up our game to play our best in the post season. I am proud of the reflections our players had in this match and am excited for the post season!
JV: Tied 3-3 This was JV’s last dual of the season. We had some tough competition and we were really close to winning the match but overall did really well as a team. Greta dominated in her singles position to win in two sets, Sofia and Gisella won their doubles match in a tie breaker, and Sophie and Alex won their doubles match in a tie breaker as well.
Friday, October 10th - Varsity Conference Tournament V: 2nd Place Team Finish
Hailey/Teodora: 1st place 1 Doubles Addy: 2nd place 1 Singles Monika/Miley: 2nd place 2 Doubles Ivanna: 2nd place 2 Singles Sofia: 2nd place 3 Singles Maddy/Teona: 5th place 3 Doubles Aanya/Gisella: 5th place 4 Doubles
The hornets made a sting at the Conference tournament! This was our last official tournament with the entire varsity team. We played tough matches and stepped up our games. Doubles teams were communicating non-stop and working hard to finish points at the net. Singles players showed great consistency and patience, waiting for their opponents to make errors. The camaraderie and spirit was electric tonight, as 5 of our 7 varsity teams played in the finals! Hailey and Teodora dominated in the finals and our other 4 teams finished a strong 2nd place. Throughout this season, our girls showed tremendous growth and grit and we finished a strong 2nd place as a team.
Saturday, October 11th - JV Conference Tournament JV: 3rd Place Team Finish
Singles 1: Greta 3rd Place 2: Alex 3rd Place 3: Sofia 3rd Place
Doubles 1: Molli/Amanda 4th Place 2: Oyin/Chloe 5th Place 3: Sophie/Hanna 3rd Place 4: Lauren/Elena 3rd Place
The JV team had quite the finish of the season this year. We started this team with almost no tennis experience, but we learned so much throughout the season and even though we were predicted to get 5th place as a team, we finished 3rd at our conference tournament this year! The singles players all won their first round, lost their second, but came back and won their 3rd match to place 3rd! The doubles teams had some tough competition to start. Our 1st doubles team dominated in the first round, but paired up with Leyden second round, who we lost to originally 0-6/0-6. These girls won their first set, lost the second, and lost in the tie break but showed true hornet spirit by winning some games against this tough team. The other doubles teams fought hard and all came back in the 3rd round to win in a tie break and win 3rd place! This was truly a remarkable day to end this season.
Week of September 29th
Monday, September 29th v. Proviso East
V: W 7-0 Varsity had a nice sweep against Proviso East. All of our girls won in straight sets, not losing a game. We played with confidence and kindness and I continue to be amazed at how thoughtful and selfless our players are.
JV v. Lockport - W 4-3 W 4-3 had a good tight match winning 4-3! Greta won in a very close comeback winning in 3 sets at number 1 singles. Alex at number 2 singles lost in straight sets but came very close going 3 sets with a loss in the second set tiebreaker. Sofia kept her winning streak going by disposing of the number 3 singles player. At number 1 & 2 doubles had losses to 2 tough and experienced teams. Number 3 doubles team of Sofie/Hanna number 4 doubles Lauren/Elana both won in very exciting 3 set matches that went back and forth in the very tight 3 set tiebreaker!
Wednesday, October 1st v. Downers Grove North
V: L 2-5 After a series of some nice wins, Varsity had their work cut out for them tonight! Downers Grove North, a nice WSC cross - conference rival, really pushed us to the max. Addy demandingly won her match. Our doubles teams had some tough matches, but Teona and Maddy at three doubles, only losing 6-3, 6-3, have really blossomed as a doubles team. They are gaining more confidence at the net and lobbing their opponents when they try to take over the net. While it didn’t go their way, I watched them play some great doubles tonight. Ivanna was the stand out match of the night. She confidently won her 1st set 6-3. Going into the second set, her opponent definitely stepped up her game, taking the lead over Ivanna 4-0. Ivanna was able to regain focus and take back the match, bringing it back to 5-5, and eventually winning the 2nd set 7-5. She played smart tennis, really using her opponents weakness to her advantage, and she showed growth in her own confidence as a player.
JV: L 0-7 After a close win against Lockport we ran into buzzsaw against DGN. The Trojans came to play and went out to early first set leads across all singles and doubles matches. Our team tried to make a comeback in the second set but the Trojans had to much experience and kept the pressure on our young team. Oiyin/Chloe at 2 doubles had the best opportunity to come back in the second set but came up short with a 3-6 loss. This was a good learning experience to see what’s it’s like to play very consistent and experienced players and this will help towards getting ready for conference next week
Saturday, October 4th
V @ Lincoln Way West Team Tournament Varsity: 3-1 1st Place in Division 2
Varsity had our big team tournament where 8 girls had to represent us! Addy, Teodora, Monika, Miley, Ivanna, Sofia, Maddy and Teona came to play today! We had a bye in round 1. Round 2 was against a very competitive Argo team. We had 2 big wins by Sofia at 2 singles and Addy and Teodora and 1 doubles. All 3 played confidently. The other 3 matches were close, but we couldn’t pull through, which put us into Division 2 for our last 2 rounds. Each of 3 divisions reigns a champion, but you must win out the rest of the day. Our girls crushed Bolingbrook 4-1 and then swept Lockport 5–0 to take the Division 2 Championship! Big shout outs today to Addy, Teodora and Sofia who all went undefeated for the day. Our girls showed a great level of respect for each other and our opponents and we won in style. Our prize for the day were our new Navy Blue LWW Tournament Champions shirts.
Week of September 22nd
Tuesday, September 23rd v. Addison Trail
V: W 7-0 Varsity had a clean sweep tonight against Addison Trail leading our conference record to 3-1 overall. Addy, Ivanna and Sofia did not lose a game in any of our singles matches, completely sweeping 6-0, 6-0. Our doubles teams also all won in straight sets. The highlight of our match was Aanya and Gisella, who had their first varsity win as a doubles team tonight! They were competitive, yet patient on the court. They stayed consistent and didn’t give away any free points - they made their opponents earn all of them. In a second set tie breaker, they broke away early, finishing points at the net confidently, to eventually lead to a 6-2, 7-6 victory.
JV: 7-0 This was JV’s first clean sweep of the season! Leading our conference record to 2-2 overall. This was also the first time we had some players win all of their games! Sofia won 6-0 6-0 at 4 singles and Oiyin and Chloe did the same at 2 doubles. This was also the first win for some of our players. Alex had her first win at 2 singles, Hannah and Sophie had their first win at 3 doubles, and Lauren and Elena had their first win at 4 doubles. This was a great day for tennis for us!
Thursday, September 25th v. Leyden
V: W 5-2
Tonight was senior night! We celebrated Hailey and Monika for their commitment to the Hornet Tennis program. Both of them had straight set victories tonight to add to our team win for the evening. Again, we swept all 3 singles matches. Addy, Ivanna and Sofia are really playing confidently and staying mentally tough. Our 1 and 2 doubles teams continue to grow together. They are communicating well and zoning in on each others strengths on the court. As a team, we are now 4-1 in conference matches.
JV: Loss 1-6
Tonight was our last conference match of the season. We traveled to Leyden and the girls put up a tough fight, but ultimately we lost 1-6. Sofia won in 2 sets at 3 singles, she has been on quite the winning streak lately! Alex fought hard at 2 singles and went to a super tiebreaker, but ultimately lost in the 3rd set. Oiyin and Chloe also went to a super tiebreaker but couldn’t hold on to win. We plan on coming back with a vengeance at the conference tournament to come back from some of these sets!
Saturday, September 27th @ Lincoln Way West Tournament (Flighted)
1st Doubles: Hailey and Teodora - 1st Place 1st Singles: Addy - 2nd Place 2nd Singles: Ivanna - 3rd Place 2nd Doubles: Monika and Miley - 3rd Place Team Finish - 3rd Place
The Hornets definitely made a sting at the Lincoln Way West Flighted Tournament today! Hailey and Teodora went in as the 1 seed… and finished the tournament as the Champion. They did not lose a set in the entire tournament. There were moments where we ‘let our guards down’, but we were able to pick ourselves back up and finish strong.
Addy had quick and painless straight set wins going into the finals. She took the first set 6-1, absolutely crushing her opponent. The second set was much more competitive, going point for point, game for game, and Addy eventually lost one break, losing the 2nd set 4-6. The match went back and forth - winners v. unforced errors on both ends. Both girls were playing strategic tennis. In the end, Addy lost in the full third set, but played an outstanding match.
Ivanna came to play today! She crushed her first round 0 and 0, and had a tough 2nd match against a more consistent player. In playing for the 3rd place match, Ivanna and her opponent were evenly matched, but Ivanna kept her head in the game and stayed focused during each point to eventually win.
Monika and Miley had a super tight semi final match - they took the first set, forcing their opponents to really step up their game. The second set did not go as planned, but the super tie breaker was close and our girls fought. Going into the 3rd place match, they were determined to end on a confident note, and did, winning in straight sets.
In the end, it was a 3 way tie for 1st place (Hinsdale South, Lincoln Way East and Marist) and it came down to (a) number of champions and (b) head to head, which put us into 3rd place in the end. BUT, our tiny little 1A school was crushing it with these huge 2A schools and South came to fight today! So proud of how we showed up.
Week of September 15th Tuesday, September 16th v. Willowbrook
V: W 5-2
Great conference matchup! We had a complete singles sweet with wins from Addy, Ivanna and Sofia. All 3 showed great fight and determination to stay focused and persevere through every point.
Maddie and Teona and Aanya and Greta showed a huge comeback in their doubles matches! Both teams lost the first set and had a tremendous fight (point for point - game for game) in the second set. Both teams lost, but they showed a huge amount of competitive drive in their matches.
Teodora and Hailey and Monika and Miley brought in our 2 doubles victories. Monika and Miley lost the first set, to absolutely come back in the second set, to eventually win a nail biting 3rd set super tiebreaker 12-10. This is only their second match playing together and they are growing together as a team! Big conference win for us as we are now 1-1 in conference matches.
JV: 2-4
Extremely close match with Willowbrook this week brought two matches that went our way with first time victories. Sofia had a tight match at 2 singles and won her first match 6-4 7-6 (7-6). At number 1 doubles Molli/Amanda also won thier first match 6-4 7-6 (7-2). Alex lost her match at number 1 singles 3-6 4-6 but continues to get better. Cloe/Oiyin lost 2-6 2-6 at number 2 doubles. At number 3&4 doubles it came down to the wire with 3 set losses. Hanna/Sophie lost 6-3 4-6 11-13. We were short handed and had to forfeit number 3&4 singles
Wednesday, September 17th v. Geneva
V: W 5-2
Geneva is a great addition to our schedule. They are competitive with our girls and makes for all around great tennis.
Again, we had huge singles sweeps. Addy just keeps dominating the singles playing field, currently with a record of 10-2. Ivanna and Sofia are really hitting their stride in the singles lineup. Both are gaining confidence in their consistency and staying mentally tough in some pretty competitive matches.
Teodora and Hailey also had a dominating doubles match. They are currently 10-3 for the season. Monika and Miley have officially become the Hinsdale South spokespeople for super tiebreakers. They win yet another close supertiebreaker to solidify our team win tonight.
Thursday, September 18th v. Morton
V: Won 7-0
Varsity had a clean sweep of Morton! Huge shout outs to Teona, Maddy, Aanya and Greta for their first varsity wins this season! Both doubles teams are really finding their stride playing together. They are getting to the net and finishing points and are feeding off each other. They know exactly where their partner is on the court and they know to cover the other parts. To watch them finish points at the net confidently has shown me how much they have grown this season.
JV 4-3
We continue to improve each week and it paid off with our first team victory of the season and a conference match! This was great victory especially since we had to forfeit number 3/4 singles and 4 doubles. At number 1 singles Alex got her first victory with a 6-3 6-4 score. At number 2 singles Sophia won her second match in a row and came back from being down and won 6-4 . 2-6 (10/6). Number 1 doubles team (Molli/Amanda) is coming on strong with their second victory and dominating 6-1 6-1. Cloe/Gisella played together for the first time this year at 2 doubles and won 6-0 6-4. Week of September 8th
Tuesday, September 9th v. Minooka
JV: L 2-7
This was a closer match for our JV team this season. We had some varsity girls playing for us. We played 4 singles and 5 doubles. At 1 singles, Sofia C came back in a really close match to win in the super tie breaker. The whole team watched in awe as she held strong to win the match. Chloe also had a win at 4 singles and proved she can be both a singles and doubles player! In doubles, we had some close matches. The closest match of all was at 5 doubles with Lauren and Elena. They won their first set 6-2, lost the second set 4-6, and lost the tie breaker 5-10. It was an incredible match to watch and the girls worked hard to put balls away, but ultimately Minooka took the tie break.
Wednesday, September 10th v. Nazareth
Varsity: L 3-4
We played some incredible tennis tonight against Naz. They are a tough opponent for us in the 1A Sectional and we had a great showing. Addy dominated her singles match, not losing a game. Hailey and Teodora won their match in straight sets as well. Sofia was our third victory tonight winning a 12-10 super tiebreaker. All of our doubles teams were active on their feet and putting balls away at the net. We are gaining confidence in each match and our matches are getting closer and closer!
JV: L 0-6
We traveled to Naz this year and got to play on their scenic courts. Alex and Chloe played singles for us and won a few of their games, but ultimately couldn’t take the match. Our doubles teams played well together and constantly were reflecting on how to improve in their play. In fact, Amanda and Molli went 3-6 in their first set and then 4-6 in their second showcasing their improvement. This team began to hit more accurately, take their time, and put balls away.
Thursday, September 11th v. Downers Grove South
Varsity: L2-5
Conference Opener! Our girls showed up and persevered. DGS is a tough team in our conference and we stepped up our games. Ivanna and Sofia at singles had tough competition, but saw what consistency can do for their game and are motivated to amp up their singles games. Monika and Miley played as a doubles team for the first time. They were down 0-4 in the 1st set to come back to 3-4, and eventually lose the match 6-3, 6-3, but really found their groove as a team. Maddie and Teona and Aanya and Gisella continued to show growth as players, putting more balls into play and putting shots away at the net. Teodora and Hailey had smooth sailing in their doubles match, winning in a quick 2 set match. Addy had the match of the day. Her and her opponent were as evenly matched as can be, splitting sets to go to a super tiebreaker. Addy started taking balls out of the air and finishing points quicker, throwing her opponent out of a routine, to eventually win 10-6.
JV: L 1-6
This was our first conference match of the season! Representing singles was Alex, Greta, and Chloe. Alex was doing so well and her confidence improved from the beginning of the week. Chloe was rallying for each point and fought extremely hard - she never gave up but ran to each and every ball. Greta played her first singles match of the season at 2 singles. She lost the 1st set 2-6, won the 2nd set 6-4, and won the tie breaker 10-8! This determination and hard work Greta had in this match was admirable - she truly got better as the match went on and began to learn how to hit well against her opponent.
In doubles, we had some closer matches. Sophie and Hannah played together for the first time and were volleying like crazy! Lauren and Elena played another really close match and went 5-7 and 5-7. These girls went back and forth with their opponents and never gave up. We are proud of our team for playing against such a tough opponent and we’re excited to see them grow throughout the season!

Miley played a grueling singles match (her first varsity singles match!) and boy did she fight! She was consistent and positive the entire match. All of our players played close matches, showing growth in every match they have played. Sophia P and Alex G had a tough 8-9 loss in a tiebreaker. They played extremely competitive tennis as the score stayed close the entire match. They have lost a few close tiebreakers and they are determined to finish out their next one.
Saturday, September 6th @ Downers Grove South Invite Addy - 5th Place (3-1) Hailey / Teodora - 5th Place (3-1) Ivanna 1-3 Miley / Maddie - 0-3
What a day to be a hornet! Miley and Maddie were thrown into a gauntlet of competition and played out of their minds, taking 2A teams to a third set super tie breaker! They are showing tremendous growth and, with hard work, how successful they can be. Ivanna stepped up her game today! She played varsity singles for the first time ever and got a victory! She forced each of her opponents to have to win against her.
Addy had a nice 2 solid wins against Naperville Central and DGS, and a tearjerker of a loss to Waubonsie Valley in a 3rd set super. She showed great control of her emotions and left it all on the court. She had solid groundstrokes and finished points at the net when needed.
Hailey and Teodora had the match of the day! Going into their 4th match, they were 2-1 (their only loss to a 2A powerhouse doubles team that finished 5th at state last year.) They were up a set against York and down 2-5 in the 2nd set. Boy did they lock in! They played as a team, played smart doubles and tied the score to 6-6. In an epic 2nd set tiebreaker, we started even (1-1, 2-2, 3-3) and then the Hornets just STUNG to 6-3, when Hailey hit a match point ACE - Hornets win. Again, what a great day to be a hornet!

Teodora and Hailey had their first win of the season at 1 doubles! They played confidently and as a team.
Teona was by far the player of the match. She lost in a really close 2 set match, but she really stepped up in her first varsity match. Her feet were active and her shots were consistent. Both girls were very similar in play and the match could have gone either way. But no matter what, Teona showed great concentration and sportsmanship in every point and I am really proud of how she played.

Saturday, August 23rd Varsity @ Centennial Quad
V. Wheaton South Lost 0-4
We had really tough matches against a tough 2A Wheaton South team. Addy Filipiak played Riley Lepsi and lost a tough match 2-6, 3-6. Addy showed great perseverance throughout this match. Sofia Cortez played her first varsity match of her Hinsdale South career as a freshman! Even through her nerves, she played with great poise and sportsmanship.Teodora Savic and Hailey Goins had a rough start to their doubles match. As the match went on, they were finding their groove as a doubles team. Big shoutout to them in their 2nd set, being down 1-5 and making a comeback to 4-5 before losing the set. Monika Aleksonis and Ivanna Cabello played their first doubles match together and they, too, had to learn how to play together. This was Ivanna’s first varsity match at Hinsdale South! Both showed great joy on the court playing together and I am excited for their season together!
V. Dunlap Won 2-2 → Won in a team tie breaker!
Monika and Ivanna had their first varsity doubles match! They were playing smart doubles - hitting lobs to throw off their opponents and finishing volleys when they were at the net. They confidently won in a super tie breaker for the 3rd set. Addy also won an astounding 3 set match against Anna Yu. They met 1x last year and this was a rematch and Anna came back for vengeance. Addy struggled in the 1st set, but took charge of the second set keeping her head focused in her match to eventually also win it in the 3rd. Teodora, Hailey and Sofia had really tough matches but are continuing to learn from their mistakes. In a team tie breaker (score of 2-2), Addy and Teodora played a tiebreaker and won in a tight match 10-7 to give us the team victory!
V. Centennial Won 4-0
Our girls showed great sportsmanship in our match against Centennial. They are a program in transition and are still learning how to play and keep score. Our girls were leaders on the court and showed great admiration to their opponents. It is sometimes harder to play matches against newer players and I was proud of how our girls handled themselves.
