Varsity This week the Hornets prepared for their last weekend of the season, which culminated with the IHSA sectional. After a week of great practices, the hornets finished in 3rd place behind Hinsdale Central and York, but ahead of LT, DGN, and DGS. The team was represented by Chase Metcalf and Sam Heinking at the 2 singles positions, and by Courtney Kaplan/ Rachele Cameli and Jada Lunsford/ Rayva Verma at the 2 doubles positions. With tough first round draws, Heinking and the doubles team of Lunsford/ Verma saw an early exit from the tournament. The doubles team of Cameli/ Kaplan went 1-1 on Friday, falling in their second round to a tough DGS squad. Metcalf went 3-1 on the weekend finishing in second place overall. After winning a conference title and placing 3rd at sectionals the hornets look to the offseason to continue to improve and head into the next season ready to experience even greater success.
Week of October 5th Varsity This week the Hornets had six matches in six days. On Monday they took care of Willowbrook with a stellar 7-0 win. Of note was the 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 win at the 4th doubles position by Rachel Sitasz and Molly Savage. On Tuesday they took on York, and lost 2-4, but again had stellar wins at the 1st singles and 1st doubles positions (Chase Metcalf, and Rachele Cameli/ Courtney Kaplan). On Wednesday they faced off against DGS for the second time of the season and left with a 6-1 win after the Hornets played some of their best tennis of the season. Thursday the Hornets capped off the regular season with a 7-0 win against Proviso East. On Friday and Saturday the Hornets went to work in trying to capture their first conference championship in 4 years. After winning conference titles at the 1st singles, 1st doubles, 2nd doubles, and 3rd doubles positions, the Hornets did just that, edging DGS by one point. It was a great tourney for the Hornets. Great tennis was played by all teams throughout the two day event.
Week of September 28th
Varsity This week was a busy week for the Hornet Tennis team with 3 conference matches and one crossover match. Earlier in the week they took on AT and prevailed 6-1. Of note was the great performance by freshman Aditi Ranjan with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the second singles position. On Wednesday they took on one of the top teams in the state in Glenbard West, and fell 0-8. On Thursday they took down Leyden with a 7-0 win, avenging a loss at the first doubles position they had suffered earlier in the season. And on Saturday they faced the ever tough DGS. This was the biggest match of season so far, and the Hornets fell 3-4, but saw some nice wins atop the lineup at the first singles, and first and second doubles positions.
Week of September 21st
Varsity This was a busy week for the Girls’ Tennis team, with three conference matches and a tough dual against LT. On Monday of this week, the girls traveled to Leyden and left with a 6-1 win despite being down 3 of their typical varsity starters. They then rebounded nicely with a 7-0 win against Willowbrook on Tuesday. On Wednesday Lyons visited and the Hornets pulled out a 4-3 win behind the stellar singles play of Chase Metcalf, Sam Heinking, and Aditi Ranjan. The second doubles team of Rayva Verma and Jada Lunsford also won a tight 6-3, 6-7 (4) win to clinch the team victory. Thursday the girls got back to work and quickly took care of Morton 7-0. The team is currently undefeated with a record of 7-0. Next week the team takes on conference rival DGS, Leyden, and AT, and also squares off versus powerhouse Glenbard West. Should be a great week.
Week of September 14th
Varsity This week the Hornets saw action against Proviso East. Proviso East was only able to furnish a lone singles player at the varsity level, and junior Chase Metcalf made quick work of the match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. The Hornets spent a lot of time on the practice courts, gearing up for what will be a match heavy next 3 weeks. With some tough competition coming up, the squad looks tough and ready to contend for a conference championship.
Week of August 31st
Varsity This week the Hornets played their first matches of the season against Morton and Addison Trail. On Wednesday against Morton, the Hornets avenged a 3-4 loss from last year, with a 7-0 win. They girls played great up and down the lineup. Veteran members of the team Sam Heinking, Courtney Kaplan, Jada Lunsford, Rayva Verma, and Rachel Sitasz came to play, and the lineup was bolstered by the addition of junior Chase Metcalf and three freshman! (Aditi Ranjan, Rachele Cameli, and Arya Selvaraj). New to the varsity team included juniors Jeanette Krstev and Gabrielle Alcantara who won a heck of a nail biter (squeaking out a 10-8 3rd set tiebreaker win). On Thursday it was back to business against Addison Trail, with a 7-0 Hornet win. In two matches junior Chase Metcalf is yet to drop a single game, and the 1st doubles team of Rachele Cameli and Courtney Kaplan continue to impress atop the doubles lineup. Next week the Hornets take on Leyden and host a Saturday dual against sister school Hinsdale Central. Let’s go South!
