2025 Girls' Swimming Weekly Highlights


Week of November 3rd

The Girl’s Swim and Dive finished up their season on Saturday with a sixth place finish at the IHSA Sectional Swim Competition.  We are very proud of the team for all their hard work and effort that was put into this season.  The Sectional Team that consisted of: Maya Szafran, Ellie Urban, Cam Beringer, Brenna Chan, Maddy Herrada, Paulina Mikutavicius, Shashi Murphy, Jacey Chen and Divers: Maeve McCracken and Riley Owens all finished with their personal best performances.  Thank you all for an amazing season!  

Week of October 20th

Congratulations to the Hornets Girl’s Swimming and Diving Team on their West Suburban Gold Conference Championship after eleven years!  We are very pleased with the team for all of the hard work and dedication that contributed to  an outstanding meet on Friday night at Downers Grove South as they hoisted up the Conference Championship Plaque in celebration.  First place medalists on the Varsity level were: Ellie Urban, Brenna Chan, Paulina Mikutavicius and Jacey Chen.  Other medalist included: Maya Szafran, Cam Beringer, Nora Schaffer, and Shashi Murphy.  On the J.V. Level: First place medalists goes out to Maddy Herrada, followed by other ribbon holders: Ellie Habashy, Athena Monroe and Genevieve Schnitker.  In the Diving Event: Congratulation's to medalists Maeve McCracken and Riley Owen’s.  Our next meet is on November 8 at Hinsdale Central for the Sectional Competition.  

Week of October 6th

The Girl’s Swim and Dive Team defeated Lemont on Tuesday evening. We celebrated seniors at the meet with a senior night celebration bidding farewell to: Ellie Urban, Maya Szafran, Riley Owen’s and Maeve McCracken.  On Thursday, the team went on to defeat Proviso West. We currently have a couple weeks to prepare for the Conference Meet hosted by Downers Grove South on Friday Evening (October 24).  Please join us and help cheer on our Hornets!

Week of September 29th

The Girl’s Swim and Dive Team took 2nd in a triangular meet on Tuesday between OPRF and Riverside Brookfield.  On Thursday, we traveled to Leyden East and defeated them for a conference win.  Congratulations to Maeve McCracken on breaking the pool 6 dive record at Leyden High School.  We drove up north on Saturday to Wheeling High School and placed first at a  6 team relay invitational.  Medalists included: Maya Szafran, Ellie Urban, Cam Beringer, Nora Schaffer, Brenna Chan, Maddie Herrada, Paulina Mikutavicius, Shashi Murphy and Genevieve Schnitker.  We are very happy with the progress the girls are making and looking foreword to a strong finish this season.  We will celebrate our Senior’s on Tuesday against Lemont at our last home meet of the season.  On Thursday, we will compete against the Panthers at Proviso West High School.   

Week of September 22nd

The girls swim and dive team defeated Addison Trail/Willowbrook on Thursday. Standout swimmer’s included: Nora Schaffer, Camryn Beringer, Athena Monroe and Ellie Habashy.  Congratulations to Maddie Herrada on her recognition as “Athlete of the Week!”  Our next meet will be home on Tuesday evening as we face both Riverside Brookfield and Oak Park River Forest. On Saturday, we are heading to Wheeling High for an invitational. Please join us and cheer on the girls.

Week of September 15th

The Girl’s Swim and Dive Team defeated Stagg on Tuesday evening but lost a hard fought battle on Thursday to Downers Grove South by only 3 points.  Top swimmers for the meets included: Maya Szafran, Ellie Urban, Cam Beringer, Nora Schaffer, Brenna Chan, Maddie Herrada, Paulina Mikutavicius, Shashi Murphy, Jacey Chen and Genevieve Schnitker. Top diving performances for the week go out to Maeve McCracken and Riley Owens.  On Saturday, the team traveled to Champaign for a 14 team Invitational and placed 5th.  Medalists included: Ellie Urban, Brenna Chan Jacey Chen and Paulina Mikutavicius.  First place finishers were Brenna Chan in the 100 Yard Breaststroke and Jacey Chen in the 100 Yard Butterfly.  Swimmer of the week was Maddie Herrada for her outstanding time drops and effort.  On Thursday, we are home against Addison Trail/Willowbrook High Schools.  

Week of September 8th

The Girl’s Swim and Dive Team defeated Morton on Thursday evening in Berwyn.  First place finishes included: Ellie Urban, Brenna Chan, Jacey Chen, Paulina Mikutavicius, Maya Szafran, Nora Schaffer and Camryn Beringer.  On Saturday, the girls placed seventh at their own invitational.  Congratulations to medalists: Brenna Chan, Jacey Chen, Maya Szafran, Shashi Murphy, Maddie Herrada and Nora Schaffer.  Please join us this week on Tuesday as we travel to Stagg High School, on Thursday we are home against Downers Grove South and on Saturday, the team will travel to Champaign for an invitational hosted by Champaign Centennial High School.  Good luck girls! 

Week of September 1st

The Girl’s Swim and Dive Team led by captains Maya Szafran and Ellie Urban lost to Downers Grove North on Thursday.  We are happy to welcome some new swim talent to the team this year which includes: Jacey Chen, Ellie Habashy, Athena Monroe, Genevieve Schnitker and on our diving team, Maeve McCracken.  The girl’s swam well on their first meet of the season with first place finishes by Brenna Chan in the 100 Breaststroke and Jacey Chen in the 100 Butterfly.  Please join us this week on Thursday Evening at JSMorton and on Saturday at Hinsdale Central as we host our annual Hornet Invitational.
