Week of November 11th Congratulations to the Girls Swim and Dive Team on their 5th place Sectional finish on Saturday in a 13 team competition. The Sectional Team consisted of: Senior Katherine Carder, Junior Bryn Larson, Sophomore's Lexi Smith, Lily Yurkovich,Julia Banka and Aava Farokhian, Freshman Gaby Iliev and Ella Hardman. Special congratulations goes out to our Diver Caraline Custardo for qualifying next Friday in the 2019 Girls State Swim and Dive Meet hosted at New Trier High School. Caraline scored an all time personal best with 413.55. An outstanding performance by all of the girls for exceptional swims and all finishing the season with personal best times!
Week of October 28th The Girls Swim Team finished 4th in the Conference Meet at Downers Grove High School on Friday evening. The girls swam well with 98% personal best swims. Katherine Carder was recognized for the West Suburban Gold Division Girls Swimming/Diving "All-Academic Team"!All Conference Swimmers included: Lily Yurkovich, Lexi Smith, Bryn Larson and Ella Hardman. Caraline Custardo brought home a gold medal for her 1st place finish in the Diving Event which also included Julia Banka achieving All Conference recognition! Outstanding job ladies. The girls will be practicing for the next two weeks with their focus on the Sectional Meet on Saturday November 16 at Lyons Township High School.
Week of October 14th On Saturday, the Girls Swim Team enjoyed a thrilling Invitational hosted by Wheeling High School. Hinsdale South finished first in 80% of the events and all of the girls came home with many first place medals. Thursday brought about our last home meet with a loss to Addison Trail/Willowbrook High School. This was our senior night as we recognized our only senior Katheryn Carder. The team will be focused on the Conference meet in two weeks at Downers Grove South High School.
Week of October 7th The Girls Swim team continues to train hard throughout the week. On Thursday, the Hornets were defeated by the Downers Grove Mustangs. Despite some illness and injuries, the girls competed hard. Bryn Larson swam fast for a first place finish in the 50 yard Freestyle. Other best swims included: Lexi Smith in the 200 Yard IM and Ella Hardman in the 50 Yard Freestyle. The team will travel to Wheeling High School on Saturday for an Invitational. Week of September 30th The Girls Swim Team continues to move forward in their season with hard work and determination. This is demonstrated daily in practice and meets. On Tuesday, the girls competed against Lemont High School, however, despite our low numbers, they all gave 100% throughout the whole meet but were defeated in Lemont's pool. Julia Banka was picked by her peers as "Swimmer Of The Week" for her outstanding effort and strong finish in the 100 yd. Freestyle Event. Lexie Smith (despite being sick and exhausted), completed Four Events reminding us of true dedication to the sport! On Thursday, the girls were home against the Mustangs of Morton. All of the girls stepped up and competed as a team for a conference victory! Caraline Custardo broke her own diving record. Awesome job ladies!!!
Week of September 23rd The Girls Swim Team is continuing to work hard throughout the season. The practice intensity has been increased and muscle fatigue has been showing up. On Thursday evening, the girls defeated Proviso West for their first Conference win this season. It is always fun to swim the athletes in different events to see what they can do. Some impressive standouts included Julia Banka in the 500 yard Freestyle, Ella Hardman in the 100 yard Backstroke and Aava Farokhan in the 100 yard Butterfly. Keep up the outstanding work ladies!
Week of September 16th The team continues to train hard and on Thursday September 19th traveled to Leyden and were ahead throughout the meet but ran out of swimmers to finish a solid lineup which turned into a loss. On Saturday, September 21st, we took seven swimmers to Bloomington High School for an Invitational for a chance to compete against some different talent throughout the State. It was a fun experience and the team was able to bring back many individual medals and get back in time for the Homecoming Dance! Keep up the good work ladies!
Week of September 9th On our second week, the team traveled to Lockport for a loss to the Porters. Due to big numbers on the Porter"s side it was a long meet but offered up some great competition on an individual level to see what our girls are capable of as they build experience and experiment with different events. This experience led into Saturday as Hinsdale South hosted their yearly Invitational with outstanding swims by our veterans which include: Lily Yurkovich, Lexie Smith, Katharine Carder and Bryn Larson who brought home a gold medal in the 50 yard freestyle.
Week of September 2nd The Girls Swim Team opened their season this year with back to back losses to Stagg on September 3rd and Riverside Brookfield on September 5th. The team is being led this year by our only Senior Katharine Carder who demonstrates daily leadership both in and out of the pool. We are exited to welcome some new faces to our lineup this year which includes: Gabbie Coutier, Gaby Iliev, Julia Andrezejczak, Ella Hardman and congratulations to new Diver Caraline Cusardo who broke the school record for 6 Dives! We are looking for big things from this group of girls as the all bring lots of talent into the program.
