Week of October 14th On Monday October 14th Dana, Char, and Myah competed in the sectional tournament at Silver Lakes Country Club in Orland, Il. It was another beautiful despite the practice rounds being super windy and cold. Sophomore Dane Euske shot a season low of 95 finished 66th. Junior Charlotte O’Neill scored a 108 finishing 97th, and Sophomore Myah Fakhouri shot a 111 on finishing 102. We are very proud of their accomplishments. It was a great experience for these young talented girls. We look forward to another successful fun season. Go Hornets!
Week of October 7th On Thursday, October 10th the varsity competed in Regionals at Lincoln Oaks Golf Course in Crete, Il. The weather cooperated and was a beautiful day in the 70’s. The team had a strong outing and our overall finish was 5th place score of 389 out of 8 teams. Dana Euske shot a 92 took 15th Place and 31st overall. Charlotte O’Neill shot a 98 took 17th place 32nd overall, and Mya Fakhouri shot a 98 took 14th place 33rd overall. All 3 of the girls qualified to move onto the sectional tournament. A proud moment for senior Mika Tarvar who almost qualified and had her best 9 hole score of and 18 hole score of 104 to finish 34th overall and missed the cut by a few to end her high school career. Fiona Choi 107 and Megan Dooley 113 had their best 18 hole scores as well.
Week of September 30th On Wednesday the Varsity and JV both had their conference tournament on a cold and rainy day despite the conditions our girls competed strongly. Dana Euske had our top score of 101, Charlotte O’Neill a 106, Mika Tarvar 111, and unfortunately Myah Fakhouri twisted her ankle and was unable to finish. The varsity finished 9th on the day and overall in conference 9th. The JV battled the elements and finished their 2nd 18 hole tournament and a first 18 holes for some. The team finished 9th on the day and overall 8th . Caitlin Bishop shot a 118 to be the top JV finisher missing a medal by only 7 strokes!
Week of September 23rd On Monday, the squad lost in both levels at Sugar Creek against York in a conference match. Varsity lost by a score of 190-162, however our best score for varsity was Dana Euske with a 42 and 5 pars. Charlotte O'Neill scored a 48, while Mika Tarver shot a 53 with 3 pars. For the JV, Elli Dooley had the low score with a 55.
On Wednesday, the team celebrated a beautiful Senior Night to honor 2 dedicated players at Village Greens vs Conference Rival, Downers Grove South. Both Megan Dooley and Mika Tarver played well in their last home match as Hornets. Unfortunately, the team lost but Dana Euske had a top score of 47 for the Varsity, while Elli Dooley was the top scorer for JV with a 65.
On Saturday, the teams had 9-hole tournaments in some nasty weather conditions. The Varsity played early at Meadowlark in the OPRF Invite and ended in 5th place. The varsity best score was Charlotte O'Neill who shot a 46 and finished with the 6th best score overall, while Mika Tarver shot a 53 with 3 pars. The JV team played in the afternoon at Downers Grove in the DGN Trojan Invite and took 5th place out 6 teams with one stroke separating us from 6th place! Both Meg Dooley and Julia Kreczko shot a 61 for low scores on our team.
Week of September 16th Homecoming week was a busy one for the hornets. Monday's match against Glen bard West at Village Greens was tough, due to a lot of water over the weekend which left the rough and fairways very long. It was a close match but both teams came up short, Varsity 215 – 198 and JV 273 - 238. Freshman, Caitlin Bishop led the JV team with a low score of 65.
Tuesday we had another conference match against Hinsdale Central. The Varsity played at Ruth Lake Country Club while the JV played at Village. Although the varsity team lost 216 – 173 the girls loved golfing at the country club and did really well on a challenging course. Charlotte O’Neil had the Hornets' best score of 50, with 2 pars. Charlotte and others loved the support they received from surrounding spectators at the club and homes. The JV team lost by a score of 268-212 but improved their overall team score at Village Greens. The top score for the JV was by Junior, Julia Kreczko who shot a season-low, 63.
Thursday at practice we had a visit from some of the administrators, including the Athletic Director and Principal, Mrs. Pokorny Lyp. The girls enjoyed coaching them on how to hit and improve on their own golf game. Thursday night, 3 of the juniors: Julia Kreczko, Fiona Choi, and Charlotte O’Neil competed in the annual, Stinger Bowl and helped the juniors beat the seniors in overtime!
Saturday, the Varsity girls competed in the 24 team, Providence Celtic Swing at Ravisloe Country Club. This was the Hornets' first individual, 18 hole match this year. The Hornet’s finished 11th place in the Silver division. Dana Euske was our leader, improving from last year by 4 strokes with a 102. Charlotte O’Neil shot a 109, improving from last year by 13 strokes. Team contributors were also Myah Fakhouri 123, Mika Tarver 123, and Fiona Choi 135. Meanwhile, the JV team was also busy playing 18 holes at Flagg Creek in the annual Lyons Township Invite. Although, the team did not place, they enjoyed a very challenging round against some top opponents. The team recorded a total of 307, and were led by sophomore, Elli Dooley who tallied a low score of 107. Other scores were used from Caitlin Bishop, Megan Dooley, Julia Kreczko, and Katie Corson.
Week of September 9th This was The best week of the season thus far for both the JV and Varsity teams! The varsity won 2 of 3 meets and JV went 3 for 3. On Monday the teams played Oak Park River Forest at Meadowlark. Varsity won 208 – 227 and the JV won by one stroke, 244-245. Dana Euske was the medalist for the varsity, with a score of 46 and Myah Fakhouri came in second with a score of 49. Julia Kreczko led the JV with a 56, while Ellie Kerrigan tallied a 59.
On Wednesday, the team picked up victory two at Village Greens against Addison Trail with a varsity score of 205 – 249. Myah Fakhouri was the medalist of the match with a 49. Dana Euske and Charlotte O’Neil came in with a 50 each, for the second best varsity scores. The JV won 275-307 and were led by Freshman, Caitlin Bishop and Julia Kreczko, who each shot a 67 on the front 9. Newcomer Ashley Leban recorded her best score of the season of 69, which was third best for the JV squad.
Friday, the Varsity lost a very close one by two strokes to Plainfield North with a score of 206-204. Dana Euske again was top golfer for the Hornets and tied for the medal spot with a 45. Fiona Choi had her best round with a score of 56 with 3 pars. The JV however, enjoyed their round at Carillon and only had two golfers two go against and picked up their third victory. Two freshman, Ashley Leban (54) and Marelyn Wrobel (56) played against the top two for PN and recorded a 110-139 at the Blue Course. What an exciting week for the Team!
Week of September 2nd The golf team had only one match this week which was a conference match against Lyons Township High School. Although the varsity Lost 229 – 172 we had some excitement from our Sophomore Class. Dana Euske had the second best score overall with a 44 getting 2 pars on the last 2 holes. Sophomore Ellie Kerrigan improved her score to a 67 playing for the first time on the varsity level. The JV team had a tough round and also lost, 300 - 239. The player of the match however, was newcomer, Ashley Leban who had the best JV score of 70. We have been practicing a lot to prepare for our 3 matches next week.
Week of August 26th Second week of the season the girls had their conference opener against Willowbrook at Twin Lakes. It was a tough loss for both the JV 239 - 225 and Varsity 193 - 166. The team now learned the importance of their short game playing on a course of 30 being par. Dana Euske had the best varsity score of 44 and JV’s Elli Dooley had the best score of 52.
Two days later the Hornet’s also had a conference match against Downers Grove North. The Hornets came up short again but played much better. Varsity had a score of 211 – 170 one of their better posted scores at Downers Grove Park District Golf Course in the past few years. Dana Euske Had her personal best score of 39. JV lost 216 - 278.
On Saturday both the JV and Varsity participated in the Trojan Scramble. The varsity shot a personal best of 75 and JV 95. Both foursomes loved playing the scramble format! The coaches even were able to play in the coaches scramble as well. Such a fun day by all! The Hornets continue to practice hard and give it their all!
Week of August 19th The Hornets Girls’ Golf Team is in a rebuilding year with only 8 members returning on the team, but we have increased our numbers to 13 golfers. Having more members on the team the Hornets hope be more competitive. The team is enjoying getting to know one another through their practices and teambuilding activities.
We opened the season after 7 days of practice against Naperville Central. Although the varsity team lost 181 – 217 we are off to the best start in 5 years. Dana Euske and Charlotte O’Neil both had the teams low score of 50. The JV also lost 214 – 285, but a strong start by freshman Caitlin Bishop. Next week we look forward to the conference opener.
