The Hornets started off the week playing Addison Trail at home. The Hornet Varsity was victorious, beating the Trailblazers 214 – 222. The Hornets had a team low score for the season. Kaylee McKinney 52 was the medalist, followed by Charlotte O’Neil 53, Sabrina Chander 54, and Mackenzie Hill 55.
On Wednesday September 13, the Hornets faced Glenbard West at home. The Hilltoppers were too much for our girls, defeating us by a score of 197 -231. Scoring for the Hornets were Jackie Wojcik 53, Hill 57, Gina Cavalli 59 and Sabrina Chander 62.
The Hornets traveled to Broken Arrow to compete in the Providence Invite. It was a very hot day and the Hornets struggled a bit with the heat. The Hornets shot 477, which placed them in 10th in the Silver divison.
Week of September 4th
The Hornets had one match this week on Friday September 8th against Plainfield North. The match was held on the Red Course at the Links of Carillon. The Hornets were defeated by the Cougars 203 – 230. Scoring for the Hornets were Kaylee McKinney and Mackenzie Hill, who both shot 56, Gina Cavalli 58 and Jackie Wojcik 60.
Next week the Hornets play Addison Trail and Glenbard West in dual meets. Next Saturday, the Varsity will compete in the Providence Invite and JV will compete in the Lyons Township Invite.
Week of August 28th
The girls’ Varsity Golf team played in two matches along with JV and a tournament this week. Our first match was home against Lyons Township on Thursday August 31 at Village Greens. The Hornets played a good competitive match against a strong ions team, but lost 190-215. This was the lowest team score of the season at Village Greens for the team this year, so we were very excited!
Alissa Banks was low scorer for the Hornets with a 50, followed by Jackie Wojcik 53, Kaylee McKinney 56 and Mackenzie Hill 56.
The JV are working hard at getting better, but also lost 209-282. Charlotte O’Neil had our lowest score of 62 followed by Megan Dooley with a 67, Mika Tarver 75 and Fiona Choi with a 78.
The Hornets traveled to the Downers Grove Golf Course to take on the Downers North Trojans on Friday Sept 1. The Hornets put up a good battle, but were defeated by DGN 181-228. Scoring for the Hornets were Banks 54, McKinney 54, Wojcik 60, and Gina Cavalli 60.
JV had a closer match and produced some really good scores golfing for the first time at the Downers Grove Course. Although we lost 204-269 it shows the girls are improving! Charlotte O’Neil Had here best score of a 61 for a par 36 followed by Megan Dooley with a 68, and improvement by both Mika Tarver 70, V Romero 70 and Fiona Choi 77.
On Saturday September 2, the Hornet Varsity played in the DGN Scramble tournament. This is a fun day for all golfers, as they play together with their own teammates in teams of four players. Our Varsity #1 team – Alissa Banks, Kaylee McKinney, Jackie Wojcik and Sabrina Chander came in with a score of 73 to take 6th place overall. Varsity team #2 – Mackenzie Hill, Gina Cavalli, Elise Anderson, and Charlotte O’Neil – shot 81 and finished in 8th place.
Elise Anderson won the closet to the pin contest on hole #13, beating all the varsity players in the Invite. Great job Elise!
Week of August 21st
Varsity The Hornet Varsity Girls' Golfers had a challenging week. They played three matched in a row Monday through Wednesday after playing in an 18 hole tournament on Saturday August 19. Needless to say, the athletes were incredibly exhausted after 4 matches in 5 days!
The Hornets took on conference rival Downers Grove South on Monday August 21 at home. Though the Hornets lost to the Mustangs by a score of 218-174, the Hornets did manage to have their lowest team score at Village Greens so far this year. Kaylee McKinney shot a personal best 49 at Village Greens to lead the scoring, followed by Alissa Banks 54, Jackie Wojcik 55, and Vieniq Romero 60.
JV JV Girl’s Golf The Hornets took on conference rival Downers Grove South on Monday August 21 at home. Though the Hornets lost to the Mustangs by a score of 273-233 the Hornets did manage to have their lowest team score at Village Greens so far this year. Sabrina Chandder shot a 65 at Village Greens to lead the scoring, followed by Charlotte O’Neil 66, Megan Dooley 69, and Mika Tarver 75.
Varsity The next night, the Hornets traveled to Springbrook Golf Course to take on the perennially strong Naperville North team. The Hornets were beat handily by the Huskies 230-158. It was a tough night for the Hornets, but the Hornets stayed focused and played hard the entire match. Alissa Banks was the Hornet low scorer with a 50, followed by Mackenzie Hill 58, Elise Anderson 59, and Kaylee McKinney 63.
JV JV Also lost 276-219 but had an outstanding outing by Sabrina Chander, Megan Dooley, and Charlotte O’Neil who all shot in the 60’s.
Varsity On Wednesday, August 23, the Hornets played their 3rd match in a row against Willowbrook at Twin Lakes Golf Course, a shorter par 30 course in Westmont. The Hornets saved the best for last, shooting 174 to beat the Warriors by 8 strokes and earn their first conference win of the season. Alissa Banks was the medalist, shooting 38. She was joined by teammates McKinney 42, Wojcik 47, and Gina Cavalli 47.
JV JV Also was successful in beating the Warriors and earned their first conference win beating the Warriors by 6 strokes. Top scorer was Sabrina Chander with a 43, followed by scores of V Romero 50, Megan Dooley 54 and Charlotte O’Neil. Fiona Choi had her first golf game ever after joining the team 2 days ago and having no experience and was learning the game as she played the course.
Next Week, the Hornets have 2 conference matches against Downers Grove North and Lyons Township. Next Saturday September 2, the Hornets will be playing in the Downers Grove Scramble at Village Greens.
Week of August 14th
Varsity The girls golf team has been working hard since the season started on August 7. With both new and returning players to our program, we have focused on technique, rules and etiquette during our preseason work.
The Hornets opened up the season on Thursday August 17 with a dual meet against Naperville Central at home at Village Greens Golf Course. A strong Redhawk team defeated the Hornet Varsity by a score of 174-227. Though we were beaten, the Hornets did score 20 points better than we did against Naperville Central last year. We are definitely showing improvement! Scoring for the Hornets were Mackenzie Hill 55, Alissa Banks 55, Kaylee McKinney 57, and Jackie Wojcik 60.
JV JV was also defeated by a score of 211-279 and this was the first competition for freshman Charlotte O’Neil 69 and Sophomore Mika Tarver 75 and top scorer was V Romero with a 63.
Varsity On Saturday August 19, the Hornet Varsity competed in the Joliet Invite at Wedgewood Golf Course. The format for this tournament was a 2 person alternate shot on the front nine, and a 2 person scramble on the back side. Our team scored 324, which placed us in 24th place. Our leading team was Allisa Banks/Elise Anderson 103, followed by Mackenzie Hill/Jackie Wojcik 104 and Kaylee McKinney/Gina Cavalli 117.
The Hornets have a busy schedule this upcoming week with a home match Monday against Downers Grove South, followed by away matches against Naperville North and Willowbrook Tuesday and Wednesday.
