The Hornet Varsity team competed in the IHSA Regionals on Wednesday October 5 at Willow Crest Golf Course in Westmont. The Hornets finished in 9th place with a score of 455. Kaylee McKinney led the Hornet scoring with a 109, shooting 49 on the front side (personal best). Gina Cavalli also shot a 50 on the front side for a personal best.
Week of September 26th
The Hornets had a make-up match against Willowbrook on Monday September 26. The teams played at Village Greens in a nice tune up for the conference meet coming up on Wednesday. The Hornets won their second match of the season, defeating Willowbrook 217-235. This was the Hornets best score at home all year! The Hornets were led by medalist Alissa Banks (47), along with Kaylee McKinney (55), Payton Locke(57) and Erin Collins(58). The JV lost in a close match by a score of 264-256.
On Wednesday September 28, the Hornets competed in the ten team West Suburban Conference meet at Village Greens. Both varsity and JV competed. The Varsity finished in eighth place overall, with a score of 441. Aliisa Banks led the scoring with a 100, followed by McKenzie Hill and Gina Cavalli with a 113 and Sonali Patel with a 115. The Hornet JV finished in 9th place, shooting 513. They were led by Erin Collins, who shot 121.
Week of September 19th
On Monday, September 19, the varsity Hornets had the privilege of playing at the Glen Oaks Country Club in Glen Ellyn against Glenbard West. Playing a Country Club is always fun for the girls! The Hornets shot a 260 on this very difficult course, losing to Glenbard West’s 199. The JV lost 255 -210 at a Glendale Lakes Golf Course. The Hornets were rained out against Hinsdale Central on September 21.
On Saturday September 24, the Hornets played in the 5 team OPRF Invite at Indian Boundary Golf Course. Tee time was 6:20 AM, so the Hornets were up very early on homecoming Saturday. It was a beautiful day on the course with deer and other wildlife seen throughout the round. The Hornets had their best 18 match of the year, with a team score of 412. That was a 72 stroke improvement from the week before! The Hornets were led by Allisa Banks and Gina Calvalli, who both scored a 101. Also scoring for the Hornets was Sonali Patel (102) and Kaylee McKinney (108).
The JV team participated in the DGN JV 9 hole Invite, shooting a 269.
Week of September 12th
The Hornets played Oak Park River Forest at home on Monday September 12. It was a beautiful day for golf, but the Hornets struggled on the back nine of Village Greens, shooting a team score of 240. Oak Park had a nice team score of 188 to beat the Hornets. The Hornet JV also lost to OPRF 261-214.
On Wednesday September 14, the Hornets traveled to Salt Creek Golf Course to play a conference match against Addison Trail. In a back and forth match that went to the final group, the Hornets earned their first win of the season by a score of 201-212! Scoring for the Hornets in the victory were Alissa Banks (51), Payton Locke (52), Gina Cavalli (53) and Sonali Patel (54). The JV team also won their first match of the season, defeating AT by a score of 239-255. Jackie Wojcik led the JV with a score of 54.
The Varsity played in the 26 team Providence Catholic Invite on Saturday September 17. The Hornets shot a 484 to take 25 place in the Invite. The JV played in the LT Invite, scoring 487 which was good for 12th place.
Week of September 5th
The Hornet golf team played three matches the week of September 5. On Wednesday, the Hornets traveled to Flagg Creek Golf Course in Countryside to take on the Lions from LT. The Varsity lost to LT by a score of 208 - 171. This was the best score the varsity has posted all year! Sophomore Alissa Banks led the scoring with a personal best of 44. JV lost 244-200, but are making strides in lowering their score also.
On Thursday, the Hornets took on a tough Naperville North team at their home course Village Greens. The Huskies were too much for the Hornets, defeating the varsity 226-150. This is the lowest score the varsity has posted at Village Greens this year. JV was also defeated 254-201.
To finish the week, the Hornets took on Plainfield North. This match was played at Green Meadows, which is a par 30 course. The Hornets were defeated 208-171. Mackenzie Hill has the low score for the Hornets with a 46.
Next week: The Hornets play Oak Park-River Forest and Addison Trail in 2 conference matches. On Saturday Sept 17, the Varsity will compete in the Providence Invite and the JV will compete in the LT Invite.
Week of August 29th
The Hornet girls’ golf team started out the week of August 29 with a meet against Willowbrook that was postponed due to constant thunder. The meet will be rescheduled for a later date.
On Wednesday August 31, the Hornets hosted Downers Grove North at Village Greens. It was a beautiful night for golf. The Hornet Varsity was defeated by DGN by a score of 261-178. The JV team lost to DGN by a score of 274-211. Although we lost, we are still seeing good improvement form our golfers in all aspects of the game.
On Saturday September 2, the Hornet Varsity and JV had the fun of playing in the DGN Scramble Invite. Teams from DGN, DGS, Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South competed in teams of four at both the varsity and JV levels. The Hornet Varsity team, comprised of golfers Sonali Patel, Alissa Banks, Erin Collins and Payton Locke, shot a 4 over par 76. Our JV team, which featured juniors Mackenzie Hill, Kaylee McKinney, Jackie Wojcik, and Gina Cavalli, shot an 8 over par 80. We are very proud of the girls; they did a wonderful job and learned a lot in their first 18 hole meet of the season.
This week, the Hornets play at Lyons Township on Wednesday, at home against Naperville North on Thursday, and at Green Meadows on Friday against Plainfield North.
Week of August 22nd On Monday, the Hornets took on conference foe York at home against Village Greens. Though the result was not in our favor, we saw much improvement by our players in fairway shots, short game and putting. Many of our girls saw a drop in scores from last Thursday, and every player showed improvement in overall play. Varsity: 251-175, JV: 266-216. The JV dropped their team score by 45 strokes in less than one week!
Wednesday, the Hornets played Downers Grove South at the Downers Grove Golf Course. This course is one of the first golf courses in the United States. The course is long and the greens are tricky. Our Varsity lost 257-194, and the JV lost 258-251. All of our Varsity shot in the 60’s which is improvement! Our goal is to get in the low 50’s or 40’s. We are working towards this goal every day. Coach Nelson and I are very proud of how hard our girls are working; their concentration level at practice and matches is outstanding!
Week of August 15th
The Hornet Girls' Golf Team has a new look this year. Of the 12 players in the program, 9 are new to the game of golf! It is very exciting to teach these golfers the fundamentals of this game, knowing they are embarking on a journey with golf that will last a lifetime.
Our Varsity and JV teams opened the season on Thursday August 19 against Naperville Central. With just 6 days of golf experience, our young ladies took to the course to compete. This was a huge challenge for them, and we are very proud of how each of our athletes handled it. The varsity lost 246-184 and the JV lost 311-218.
