On 9/17 the Lady Hornets traveled to Peoria, Illinois to compete on the State Cross Country course at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational. The State meet course experience will benefit the girls in the future. The course was pretty soggy from the overnight rain but pushing thru and competing is much more important sometimes than their actual times. The trip itself is a good team building time for the girls on a much longer bus trip.
Week of September 5th
On 9/6 the Hornets hosted the Morton Mustangs at KLM. The weather was extremely hot and very humid so the race was shortened to 1.93 again. This actually gave the girls a good chance to compare their times from the first home meet of the season at that same distance. We had many girls were matched at improved on their meet times from the first meet. That is good improvement. The girls lost the Varsity team score 18-43 to the Mustangs.
On 9/10 the Lady Hornets traveled to Reavis High School for the Running Rams Invitational. Reavis is a very flat course, especially in comparison to KLM. The girls ran pretty well and earned some nice medals and ribbons. Freshman, Patrice Trzupek finished 8th in the Frosh/Soph race. Sophomore, Shaylinn Aver finished 13th in the Frosh/Soph race. In the Varsity race juniors Neha Chinwalla finished 14th, along with Rebecca Lowery in 43rd and Kiki Twardosz finishing in 47th. There was no Varsity team score because we only finished with 4 runners.
Week of August 29th
The Lady Hornets started the racing season with a very busy week. On 8/29 the Hornets invited the Warriors of Willowbrook to their home course at Katherine Legge Memorial Park (KLM). The weather was so hot and humid that the race was shortened to 1.93 miles. The Lady Hornets lost to Willowbrook 23-32. It was a good start to the racing season.
On 8/30 the Cross Country Hornets traveled to The Plainfield North Conditioner Invitational. The relay style meet is a good training and racing opportunity for the girls so early in the season. There was some great mile repeat competition and the girls now have a pretty good idea how much harder they need to work to catch up to the tough competition in our area.
On 9/3 was the traditional Hornet/Red Devil Invitational at KLM. Our home invitational features many of the top state contending teams. It is a beautiful Saturday morning to watch the pretty colorful array of teams in their first big competition of the season. Our varsity pull together with a 1-5 runner split of 1:19. The Varsity finished 15th in very tough competition. This was the girls’ first 3 mile race at KLM this season and now they know how much they are improve each week as we look forward to the WSC Gold conference meet at KLM in October.
