Varsity Sectional Semifinals The Hornets’ season came to a close in the Sectional Semifinals with a hard-fought 50–59 loss to Aurora Central Catholic. After trailing early, the girls battled back to tie the game late in the third quarter and carried that momentum into a tight fourth. A few timely baskets and clutch free throws from ACC down the stretch made it difficult for Hinsdale to complete the comeback, but the fight and resilience were evident until the final buzzer.
Maeve Savage led the way with a strong double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Hailey Goins added 14 points. Brynn Diedrich contributed 13 points and 5 assists, Sloane Kiefer chipped in 7 points and 7 rebounds, and Molly Curley added 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
While the loss marked the end of the season, what stood out most was the heart and unity of this group. Basketball may have brought them together, but the relationships, leadership, and commitment to one another made this season truly special. The seniors leave behind a legacy of toughness and selflessness that sets a powerful example for the returning players. They will be deeply missed, but their impact on the program will continue long after this season.

JV 2/03/2026 vs. Glenbard South -The Hornets played their last non-conference game of the season, hosting the Raiders of Glenbard South. Thursday night vs. Leyden was an extra special one for the Hornets, as we honored our nine seniors on Senior Night: Maeve Savage, Sloane Kiefer, Hailey Goins, Kaleia Lin, Alexis Kuhlman, Molly Curley, Anna Wilcox, Brynn Diedrich, and our manager Lulu Qatanai. This group has meant so much to our program—their selflessness, coachability, and athleticism have made them an absolute joy to coach and an even better group to watch. They will be deeply missed next season.

Week of January 19th
Varsity Hinsdale South had a challenging week with three tough matchups, battling through injuries and adversity while continuing to compete with grit and heart.
The week began at the 36th Annual Derril Kipp Hoopsfest at Benet Academy against Geneva. With multiple players unavailable, the Hornets fought hard but fell 42-67. After a slow start and a 4-20 first quarter deficit, the girls responded with a huge second quarter, sparked by an offensive explosion from Hailey Goins, who scored 20 first-half points to cut the lead to 10 at halftime. Hailey finished with an impressive 29 points, including 6 threes, while Maeve Savage scored the team’s other 11 points.
On Thursday, the Hornets faced Lincoln-Way Central and dropped a hard-fought defensive battle 29-40. Hinsdale struggled to find offensive rhythm, but Maeve Savage led the way with 17 points and 8 rebounds, Hailey Goins added 10 points, and Sloane Kiefer pulled down 10 rebounds.
The week ended on a high note Saturday with a huge road win over Downers Grove South, as the Hornets earned an exciting 48-40 victory. It was a true team effort, highlighted by Hailey Goins scoring 14 points and reaching her 1,000th career point. Maeve Savage posted a double-double with 11 points and 17 rebounds, while Sloane Kiefer added 8 points and 11 boards. Brynn Diedrich chipped in 10 points, and Molly Curley added 5 to help secure a well-deserved conference win.
JV 1/22/2026 vs Lincoln Way Central - We took a short break from conference play to start this week by hosting the Knights of Lincoln Way Central. LWC was a very talented team and used their full court press to great effect. The Hornets showed a lot of resilience in the contest but could not keep up with the Knights. 1/24/2026 @ Downers Grove South - The Hornets closed out the week traveling to Downers Grove South to resume conference play. The game started and finished incredibly close. Both teams struggled to find offense in the first half, until Alani Flowers hit two big 3’s in the second quarter. Juliana Mekhiel added a 3 of her own and the Hornets took a 13-6 lead into half. That lead grew to 17-7 at the end of the third quarter. The Mustangs found their groove early in the fourth quarter though and cut the lead to as little as 3 at one point. Alani Flowers hit her third 3 of the night, however, and Juliana Mekhiel sealed the win with two free throws. This marked the first win of the season for the JV Hornets. Week of January 12th
Varsity vs. Proviso East (Jan 13) The Hornets struggled to find a rhythm on the road against Proviso East, as shots wouldn’t fall and momentum was hard to come by. Despite battling to the final buzzer, the girls fell 40–22. Maeve Savage led the scoring with seven points, while Hailey Goins and Sloane Kiefer each added six, and Brynn Diedrich chipped in three.
vs. Willowbrook (Jan 17) The girls bounced back on Saturday with a hard-fought 50–48 win over Willowbrook in a game that stayed close from start to finish. Maeve Savage delivered a big performance with 23 points and seven rebounds, leading the Hornets down the stretch. Sloane Kiefer added 10 points and eight boards, while Hailey Goins, Molly Curley, Kaleia Lin, and Alexis Kuhlman all contributed key buckets in the tight victory.
JV 1/17/2026 @ Willowbrook - The JV Hornets only played one game this week vs Willowbrook. The Hornets played short handed against a talented Warriors squad. Willowbrook maintained control of the game from start to finish, but we showed a lot of fight in this one. Lily Holzwart led the team with 6 points. Alani Flowers and Paige Davison each had 5 rebounds as well.
Frosh/Soph 1/13/2026 Away @ Proviso East The Lady Hornets traveled to Proviso East tonight and lost this conference game 28-23. Their squad was thin this game as the girls only had 2 subs. Early foul trouble was also a contributing factor to this loss. The girls were winning most of the game, however, 2 girls fouled out in the 4th quarter and 1 girl was injured which meant the girls only played with 4 on the floor for the entire duration of the 4th quarter. While the score reflects a loss, the girls won by my standards. They faced tough adversity while only playing with 4 girls for a whole quarter. They worked together, picked each other up, and never gave up. I am proud of them!
1/17/2026 @ Willowbrook The Hinsdale South freshman/sophomore Lady Hornets traveled to Willowbrook for an important conference game. Unfortunately, the girls did not have a full squad due to illnesses and other various reasons. The Lady Hornets fell to Willowbrook 43-10. Without their point guard, the Willowbrook press was too strong for them. They also got in early foul trouble and had to play the entire 4th quarter (again) with only 4 girls. 3 girls fouled out. Although they had a tough game, the girls did their best to stay positive and try their best. Caroline Kelly did a phenomenal job keeping her composure and leading the Hornets. Caroline had 3 points and so did Kamiyah Spruill. Aaliyah Harris had 2, Khloe Jones hit a FT and Trinity Garrett had 1 point. Lilyani Munoz played tough defense and helped to keep the girls’ spirits high.
Week of January 5th
Varsity vs. Hinsdale Central (Jan 6) The Hornets faced a tough road matchup at Hinsdale Central and struggled to recover from a rough first quarter, falling behind early. Despite the slow start, the girls battled the rest of the way, winning the second quarter and continuing to fight until the final buzzer. Turnovers and defensive breakdowns proved costly, resulting in a 65–35 loss. Maeve Savage finished with 16 points, while Hailey Goins added 13. What stood out most was the team’s composure and unity through a difficult game.
vs. St. Francis (Jan 8) The girls bounced back in a big way with a thrilling revenge win over St. Francis. After a 13-point loss to St. Francis at the Montini Tournament two weeks earlier, the Hornets delivered one of their best defensive performances of the season. Even though they went into the fourth quarter trailing by eight, the momentum had shifted to the Hornets' favor as Maeve Savage knocked down two key threes to close the third. The Hornets then outscored St. Francis 14–4 in the final quarter to secure an exciting 37–35 win. Maeve led the charge with 24 points, Hailey Goins added 10, and Sloane Kiefer was a game-changer on defense while pulling down 12 rebounds. Kaleia Lin hit a clutch three to tie the game with 1:30 left, Molly Curley and Alexis Kuhlman provided key minutes and lockdown defense, and the bench brought relentless energy throughout. A true team win.
vs. Morton (Jan 10) The Hornets carried that momentum into Saturday’s matchup against Morton, earning a convincing 50–24 win. The girls outscored Morton in every quarter, with everyone seeing the floor and contributing. The team’s three captains led the way: Maeve Savage posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, along with 4 assists, 3 steals, and 4 blocks; Hailey Goins finished with 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists; and Sloane Kiefer added 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. Molly Curley knocked down 2 three-pointers, Kaleia Lin scored 4 points, and Briasia Satterfield added two. Another great team win to close the week.
JV The JV Hornets returned to school this week and resumed their season against district rivals Hinsdale Central on Tuesday, 6th. The Red Devils played a very strong game and created havoc with their defense. A strong second half from the Hornets was not enough to overcome a first half deficit. Mali Patel led the way with 4 points, and Jillian Ockrim added another 3 pointer to her strong shooting season.
We next played on Thursday, January 8th vs. St. Francis in a defensive battle. The Hornets only gave up 12 first half points but could not generate much offense of their own. 4 different Hornets had multiple steals in this game. Loolia Zeitoun led the Hornets with 5 points.
Our final game of the week was on Saturday, January 10th and was a close conference game against Morton. We were all tied up at 16 at the half, but the Mustangs pulled away in the second half. Loolia Zeitoun had 6 points and Juliana Mekhiel added 5 of her own to be our top two scorers. 7 different Hornets scored in the game.
Frosh/Soph 1/6/2026 Away @ Hinsdale Central The Hinsdale South freshman/sophomore Lady Hornets traveled to rival school Hinsdale Central for their first game after the holiday break, losing to Central 20-50. Central put on a heavy press against the Hornets and that pressure was not something the girls were able to handle. Leading the Hornets was April Hardy with 13 points, including 5/8 at the free throw line. Kamiyah Spruill contributed 5 points and many offensive/defensive turnovers, and Gabby Meadows scored 4 points. Aaliyah Harris played tough defense while Trinity Garrett and Caroline Kelly had several assists.
1/8/2026 Away @ St. Francis It was a rainy Thursday when the freshman/sophomore Lady Hornets traveled to St. Francis. Luckily the weather and late arrival did not deter our girls. The Hornets won this matchup 32-24. Anna Martic had 2 points and several key assists. Caroline Kelly had 4 points while Kamiyah Spruill scored 5. Her offensive rebounds and quick shots back up to the basket are starting to prove to be effective! Leading the Hornets was April Hardy with 19 points. 4 of those baskets were 3 point shots!
1/10/2026 Home vs Morton Today’s Saturday morning game the freshman/sophomore Lady Hornets hosted Morton. The girls were leading 15-6 at halftime, but Morton put up a good fight in the 2nd half of the game. The final score was 20-19, Hinsdale South wins! The girls never gave up and fought hard. They never quit and had great intensity! April Hardy led the Hornets with 10 points. Caroline Kelly had 6 points, including 1 very crucial free throw in the 4th quarter. Both Gabby Meadows & Aaliyah Harris scored 2 points each. Kamiyah Spruill had more offensive and defensive rebounds that we were able to count!

Sloane Kiefer was named Player of the Game for her outstanding defense and relentless hustle and work on the glass.

In a game filled with strong performances, Maeve was named Player of the Game after her dominant all-around effort.
vs. St. Francis The day after Christmas brought another tough battle, as the Hornets fell 52–39 to St. Francis. The game stayed close throughout, with each quarter decided by just a few points, but a cold shooting night from beyond the arc made it difficult to close the gap. Maeve Savage led the team with 18 points and was named Player of the Game for the second game in a row. Sloane Kiefer added 10 points and eight rebounds, while Hailey Goins finished with six points, and Anna Wilcox contributed five points and five rebounds. The girls showed resilience and will get another shot at St. Francis on January 8.
vs. Montini The Hornets closed out the tournament on a high note with a convincing 44–26 win over Montini. The Hornets now head into a short break before returning to action Tuesday, January 6, against Hinsdale Central.
JV The Hornets were hosted by Montini High School for their winter tournament. Many excellent teams were in the tournament and we appreciated being able to play such good competition. Our first game was against DePaul Prep. Both Paige Davison and Loolia Zeitoun scored 3 points to lead the team. DePaul turned in a strong shooting performance and downed the Hornets.
Our second game was against the eventual tournament winner, Marist. Paige Davison extended her streak of consecutive games with a three and once again tied for the lead in points. Lauren Diaz-Day added a three of her own as she continued her strong start to the season after being injured for most of it. Marist's man press defense was too much to handle.
The third game of the tournament was against the home team Montini. Juliana Mekhiel led the way with 4 points and Lauren Diaz-Day added another 3. The Hornets added a buzzer beating 3 to end the third quarter, but fell to Montini.
Our last game of the tournament was a rematch with the St. Laurence Vikings. Lauren Diaz-Day made it three games in a row with a 3, and led us in scoring. Paige Davison and Lilija Kenton tied with 4 rebounds each to close out our tournament appearance.

Frosh/Soph 12/16/2025 Home vs Proviso East W 32-24 The Hornets hosted conference school Proviso East and won their game 32-24. This was a fun game as every girl got playing time. April Hardy had a career evening, scoring 29 of the Hornets’ 32 points. She had an incredible performance and was able to dribble penetrate past the Proviso defense easily. Caroline Kelly had the remaining 3 points in the game. This was a great conference win!
12/19/2025 Away @ Addison Trail The Lady Hornet freshman/sophomore team traveled to Addison Trail for the final game of 2025. This was an extremely tough opponent and the girls were also battling several injuries and illnesses. The girls lost this game 35-15. April Hardy led the Hornets with 12 points.
