Varsity The injury bug hit the Hornets this week as South dropped 3 tough non conference games against some real good teams. Lake Central from Indiana beat the Hornets 71-32 at the MLK shootout at Benet high school. Maeve Savage led us with 10 points.
The short handed Hornets battled Lincoln Way Central 34-47 and were led Savage 20 points and 10 rebounds, Kalei Lin added 6 points to the effort.
The Hornets finished the week at Minooka and were dealt a 68-32 loss, one of the bright spots was Kallie King made her first 3 point goal of the season! Thanks to 3 JV girls who helped us compete because of injury( Ava Scherr, Francesa Arnold and Braisia Satterfield. Let's get everyone healthy and GO HORNETS!!!!!

Week of January 13th
Varsity The week started with a 44-51 loss to a much improved Proviso East team. Maeve Savage had a season high 26 points and 16 rebounds. Hailey Goins chipped in 11 points and we were led by Sloane Kiefer on the glass with 10 rebounds. The Hornets bounced back in a big way with a win over Willowbrook 69-38. A season high 15 three pointers were made! The three point scorers were Savage(4), Goins(4), Diedrich(3), Kiefer(2), Curley(2). Marit Haile secured 8 rebounds in the win. The conference record stands at 7-2 one game behind first.

Week of January 6th
Varsity The Hornets battled against the rivals Hinsdale Central and came up short 47-60. A balanced attack for points, with Hailey Goins 15, Maeve Savage 16, and Brynn Diedrich had 14 points. Marit Haile tallied 7 rebounds in the loss to the Red Devils.
The next game ended in heartbreak with a tight 40-39 loss to St Francis. The Hornets were led by Goins 15, Savage 14 and Molly Curley's 6 points. The leading rebounder was Sloane Kiefer with 9. Two well fought contests.
The Hornets bounced back with a BIG win at Morton 53-37. Led by Brynn Diedrich season high 22 points! Hailey Goins chipped in 17 herself. MaeveSavage had 12 rebounds and Sloane Kiefer had 11. Good way to end the week!

Week of December 23rd
Varsity The Hornets finished the Montini Christmas Tourney at 2-2 with a big win against Geneva, Leaders averages, Maeve Savage 15 pts and 7 rebs per game, Hailey Goins 14.5 pts, Brynn Diedrich 11.2 pts, Sloane Kiefer 8 rebounds, and Marit Haile 5.3 rebounds per game. The other win was against Thorton and the two losses were against Benet and Neuqua Valley which the Hornets were playing the 3rd day in a row. Overall Record 9-7

Week of December 16th
Varsity The Hornets went 2-0 this week with a couple of conference wins against Proviso East and Addison Trail. The Hornets had a season high 12 3's against Proviso, led by Hailey Goins who had 5 of them.Stat leaders were, Savage 23 pts 15 rebs 7 assists, Goins 18 pts 5 assists, Molly Curley 6 points, and Marit Haile 14 rebounds. Leaders against Addison Trail were, Maeve Savage 20 pts 7 rebs, Haily Goins 12 pts 9 assists, Sloane Kiefer 7 pts 10 rebs, and Vakare Iviskos chipped in a season high 7 points! Overall record 7-5.
JV The JV Lady Hornets Conference win streak unfortunately came to an end as they lost to Addison Trail 18-23. This was a very intense game from both teams. The game was tight from start to finish, but ultimately missed opportunities and foul trouble led to their defeat. It was promising to see their defensive effort particularly in the 2nd half. Every single girl on the Lady Hornets caused the other team at least 1 turnover each! Ava Scheirer & Ameera Mullins both led the team with 6 points each. Valerie Galvez had 1 3-point basket and Briasia Satterfield also contributed 3 points. The girls played their hearts out and never gave up. The Lady Hornets will look to re-group for their upcoming holiday tournament!
Freshman Friday, December 20th - Addison Trail 26 Hinsdale South 14 Player of the Game = Lilija Kenton. An short-handed squad gave a heroic effort before falling to AT 26 to 14.
Week of December 9th
Varsity The week started off great with two wins vs Morton 53-40 and Leyden 51-38 to raise the Hornets conference record to 3-1. Leading the way was Hailey Goins 22pts Maeve Savage 19pts and Sloane Kiefer 10 pts 11 rebounds (double,double) vs Morton. Against Leyden we were led by Goins 21pts,Savage 17pts, Kiefer 7 pts 9 rebs. Marit Haile hit a BIG 3 in the fourth quarter to get momentum back and help seal the victory!
The Hornets struggled against Lincoln Way West, but Hailey Goins was a bright spot netting 26 points including 8 threes! Overall record stands at 5-5. 3-1 in the conference.
JV Tuesday, December 10th - Hinsdale South 35 Morton 30 The JV Lady Hornets hosted their first official main gym home game against conference team Morton, winning 35-30. This makes the team 3-0 in conference and their win streak continues. Their defense looked great, causing many Morton turnovers throughout the game. Loolia Zeitoun & Ghina Kasser had many of these turnovers. Lauren Diaz-Day got the momentum going in the first quarter hitting 2 back to back 3 point baskets (6 total points). They were hard to stop after that. Leading the Hornets in scoring was Ava Scheirer with 9 points and Valerie Galvez had 6 points. Both Briasia Satterfield & Samantha Johnston had 4 points each and Ameera Mullins had 3. Last, Francesca Arnold kept her 3 point basket hot streak going with 1 3-pointer. This was a great overall team victory with all players contributing! Way to go Hornets!
Friday, December 13th - Hinsdale South 29 Leyden 19 The JV Lady Hornets are now 4-0 in conference, beating Leyden 29-19. The girls only totaled 11 points at half but came out strong after half-time to secure the victory. Their pressure style defense continues to be their biggest success! Ava Scheirer, Briasia Satterfield, and Ameera Mullins all led the hornets to victory with 6 points each. Michyla Boyd & Valerie Galvez contributed 4 points each while Samantha Johnston hit a 3-point basket. Lauren Diaz-Day, Tejiyha Jones, Loolia Zeitoun & Ghina Kassar can all be proud of their tough defense; one of the main reasons we won this game. The entire team got minutes on the court tonight, which makes this a great team win!
Saturday, December 14th - Montini 48 Hinsdale South 16 Beginning the St. Francis Christmas Classic was a very strong matchup against Montini. The girls struggled to get the ball moving and couldn’t keep up with the Lady Broncos throughout the game losing 16-48. There were too many turnovers from the Hornets. This was a humbling loss. Leading the team in points was Valerie Galvez with 7. Jillian Ockrim was close behind with 6 points; scoring 2 3-pointers. Molly Patel also contributed 3 points.
Saturday, December 14th - Hinsdale South 36 Evergreen Park 28 The JV Lady Hornets came back strong after losing game 1 in the tournament with a hard-fought victory beating Evergreen Park 36-28. A much needed and exciting win! The girls turned things around with turnovers and took care of the basketball while also fighting hard underneath the basket with lots of both offensive & defensive turnovers. Leading the charge for the Hornets was Ava Scheirer with 13 points. Ameera Mullins has grown tremendously over the last week after an ankle injury and contributed 11 points. Valerie Galvez and Jillian Ockrim both had 1 3-point basket each. Loolia Zeitoun and Francesca Arnold scored 1 basket each (2 points). Fantastic job Hornets!!
Freshman Tuesday, December 10th - Hinsdale South 25 Morton 28 Player of the Game - Jillian Ockrim. Another hard fought loss, close until the end, with a shot to tie at the buzzer.
Friday, Deceember 13th - Hinsdale South 20 Leyden 44 Player of the Game - Aliyah Hamilton. A good effort against a very good Leyden squad. Though the record doesn't indicate it, the team is improving game by game.
Week of Decmber 2nd
Varsity The Hornets started the week with a well fought loss at DGS 46-52. Fighting foul trouble all night the game was not decided until the final minutes. Leading the Way was Hailey Goins with 25 pts including 5 3 pointers. Maeve Savage chipped in 12 points. Marit Haile had a monster day rebounding with 9 boards, and Brynn Diedrich chipped in 5 assists.
The Hornets bounced back at Willowbrook, winning 59-50. Similar game battling foul trouble, a huge fourth quarter (19pts) put us over the top. Leading the way in points, Goins 20, Savage 19. Brynn Diedrich had 5 assists again and Marit Haile led in boards with 7. Sam Johnston made her varsity debut and helped the Hornets hold on to victory!
JV Tuesday, December 3rd - @ Downers Grove South (W 33-30) The JV Lady Hornets had their first conference game against rival Downers Grove South winning 33-30. The game was tight from start to finish. This was a great team win! The girls played fantastic defense and limited their turnovers. They came out strong in the 2nd half to secure the conference victory; 14 of their 33 points occurred in Q3. Valerie Galvez led the Hornets with 13 points (two 3-point shots) and Ava Scheirer had 12. Her drives to the basket were difficult to stop. Loolia Zeitoun had 5 points, Samantha Johnston contributed a 3-point basket and Briasia Satterfield had 2 crucial baskets (4 points) in the 4th quarter. She was also unstoppable under the basket with both offensive and defensive rebounds. The girls are 1-0 in conference play.
Saturday, Decmeber 7th - @ Willowbrook (W 30-23) The JV Lady Hornets looked to keep their win streak alive traveling to Willowbrook for their 2nd conference game, beating Willowbrook 30-23. The girls had a strong first half going into halftime leading 21-9. Willowbrook was able to pick up their defensive pressure in the 2nd half, but ultimately the Hornets secured the win. Ava Scheirer scored 9 points and had several assists to Briasia Satterfield who scored 6. Ghina Kasser contributed 6 points and Francesca Arnold scored 5 with 2 crucial free throws in the 4th quarter. The girls have now won 3 in a row and are 2-0 in conference!
Freshman Tuesday, December 3rd @ Downers Grove South (L 19-29) Player of the Game - Paige Davison. Opening conference on the road with an unfortunate loss in a game that the team showed some nervousness.
Saturday, December 7th @ Willowbrook (L 14-32) Player of the Game - Zaga Golubovic. Better composure was shown by the team in a physical loss on the road. The girls are starting to see and understand how the High School game differs from the Middle School game. This is the purpose of the Freshman Team ; player development.
Week of November 25th
Varsity The Hornets finished the busy week of the Brenda Whitesell Tourney finishing with a 2-2 record. The wins came against Riverside Brookfield and Sandburg high schools. Some of the highlights- 28 team steals vs RB. A convincing 60-44 win over Sandburg. A gritty hard fought loss to Lincoln Way East 46-57. Leading the way was Maeve Savage who had games of 22 points 8 steals, 23 points and 9 steals 15 and 12 points. Sloane Keifer was solid on the glass as she averaged 7.5 rebs through the tourney. Hailey Goins got her offense going also as she averaged 9.2 points in 4 games. Off to conference play!
JV Monday, November 25th - Tourney game vs Naperville North (L 28-48) The JV Lady Hornets played Naperville North for their 3rd game of the tournament losing 28-48. This was their toughest matchup yet, but it is promising to see that the girls are starting to work better as a team both offensively and defensively and they are increasing their shooting percentages. Leading the team was Valerie Galvez with 11 points including 3 3-point baskets. Ava Scheirer had 6 points, Briasia Satterfield with 4. Ghina Kasser hit 2 free throws and Francesca Arnold had a 3-point basket.
Friday, November 29th - Tourney game vs. Plainfield South (W 37-20) The JV Lady Hornets won vs. Plainfield South 37-20. They came out strong in the 1st half with a full court press that caused many Plainfield South turnovers. The girls played a great 1st half of the game and were up by 5 points at halftime. Ava Scheirer scored 8 pts in the second half. With both Samantha Jones and Valerie Galvez hitting a 3 pointer each. Which helped lead the team to a victory!
Freshman Monday, Novmeber 25th vs. St. Francis (L 12-37) Player of the Game - Lilly Holzwart. A very good effort by the team in a loss to a very experienced St. Francis squad.
Friday, November 29th vs. Metea Valley (W 28-10) Player of the Game - Malini Patel . The team's hard work pays off with a victory over Metea Valley in the Whitesell Tournament. Great effort by all the girls on the team.
Week of November 18th
Varsity The Girls' Varsity kicked off the season with a hard fought game at Oswego, but unfortunately came out with a 55-60 loss in Overtime. Maeve Savage led the Hornets with a double/double right out of the gate( 18 points, 13 rebs). Hailey Goins chipped in 12 points and 7 rebs. Brynny Diedrich scored 8 points and dished out 4 assists, while Molly Curry and Sloane Kiefer added 6 points each. It was a great team effort that came up a little short.
JV Monday, November 18th @ Oswego (L 20-50) The Lady Hornets had a tough first game traveling to Oswego High School, losing 20-50. Oswego’s pressure defense was difficult to overcome as the team had double digit turnovers in each half. They did not give up throughout the game and learned a lot. Leading the team in scoring was Ava Scheirer with 7 and Samantha Johnston with 6. Ameera Mullins contributed 4 points and Valerie Galvez hit a 3 point shot.
Thursday, November 21st - Tourney game vs RB (L 12-28) The Lady Hornets began their Thanksgiving tournament with a matchup against Riverside Brookfield. They struggled to score baskets against their zone defense losing 12-28. Ava Scheirer and Lauren Diaz-Day had 3 points each. Briasia Satterfield & Loolia Zeitoun both had 1 basket each.
Saturday, November 23rd - Tourney game vs OPRF (L 20-26) The 2nd game of the Thanksgiving tournament was the girl’s closest game yet playing OPRF. Final score was 20-26. While the Lady Hornets lost this game, they showed strong tenacity and fought until the very end. Trailing over 10 points at half, their full court defense brought them back into the game. With 2 minutes left, Francesca Arnold hit a 3 point shot to tie the game. The girls ultimately ran out of steam but proved that they will never give up. Leading the team was Francesca Arnold with 5 and Loolia Zeitoun with 4. Ava Scheirer, Valerie Galvez, Samantha Johnston & Briasia Satterfield also contributed baskets.
Freshman Monday, November 18th @ Oswego (L 11-31) Player of the Game - Jillian Okrim. Good effort in first high school game, though the result was a loss.
Thursday, November 21st vs. Riverside Brookfield (L 18-29) RB : Player of the Game - Gabby Matthews. First game in the Whitesell Tournament was an entertaining hard fought loss.
Saturday, November 23rd vs. Sandburg (L 17-35) Sandburg : Player of the Game : Lilja Kenton . Second game in the Whitesell Tournament. Another hard fought loss, but improvement was shown by the team.
