Varsity The Varsity Lady Hornets had a VERY exciting week. They started the week off with a sectional championship win over Marian Catholic on Monday. The Hornets won 36-30 advancing them to state play at ISU. Mia Lavorato let the way with 13 points and took 2 huge charges. Mimi Flowers recorded another double double scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Maeve Savage played phenomenal defense and scored 6 points. Brynn Diedrich handled the ball very well and dished out 5 assists.
The Hornets first game at state was against Glenwood. Unfortunately they fell short and lost 46-33. Maeve Savage had 11 points and 4 rebounds. Mimi Flowers scored 6 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Hailey Goins added 6 points as well.
The Lady Hornets then played Montini in the 3rd/4th place game. They fought to the very end, but lost 45-42. Benny Diedrich led the way with 11 points while Mimi Flowers added 10 points. Maeve Savage scored 6 points and Hailey Goins and Mia Lavorato each had 5 points.
The Hornets are your 3A 4th place Champions! This team made a lot of history this season and will cherish the memories forever!
Week of February 19th
Varsity Your Varsity Lady Hornets are Sectional Champions!! This is the first time since the 76-77 season. The girls started sectional play beating St. Ignatious on Tuesday 35-34. Mia Lavorato hit a clutch free throw with 6 seconds left to take the lead and keep it! Mimi Flowers had 10 points and 13 rebounds while Lavorato also had 10 points and 4 assists. Maeve Savage had another great defensive game and contributed 7 points in the win. Sloane Kiefer also had 6 points and 3 rebounds.
The Hornets then played St. Laurence for the sectional championship and came out on top 42-29. Seniors Mimi Flowers and Mia Lavorato were not going to be stopped and let their season come to an end. Flowers had 16 points and 13 rebounds while Lavorato had 13 points and 3 rebounds. Maeve Savage added 6 points and 7 rebounds and played another amazing defensive game. Brynn Diedrich dished out 4 assists and snatched 3 steals. The Hornets return to action in the Super sectional game against Marian Catholic on Monday night at home. Let’s dance, Hornets!
Week of February 12th
Varsity The Varsity Lady Hornets are Regional Champions for the first time in 22 years! The girls started regional play on Monday against Bogan High School. The Hornets won 65-7. Every player scored in this game and Mia Lavorato scored her 1,000th point! Mimi Flowers led the way with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Marit Haile had a double double with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Mia Lavorato had 7 points and 7 assists while Molly Curley added 9 points in the win. The girls then played Evergreen Park on Friday for the Regional Championship. They came out on top winning 44-22. Mimi Flowers recorded another double double scoring 17 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Maeve Savage had 10 points and 6 rebounds while Mia Lavorato scored 9 points. Brynn Diedrich played tenacious defense and finished the game with 7 steals. The Hornets travel to St. Ignatious on Tuesday with a game time of 7:30.
Week of February 5th
Varsity The Varsity Hornets wrapped up regular season play this week with a loss to Glenbard West in the West Suburban Conference Crossover game. The Hornets fought to the very end, but fell short 49-51. Mia Lavorato led the way with 22 points while Maeve Savage added 13 points. Mimi Flowers had 6 points and 5 rebounds and Hailey Goins chipped in 5 points. The Hornets ended regular season play with a record of 21-10 overall and 10-2 in conference. With their conference play they were awarded Conference Co-Champions. Seniors Mia Lavorato and Mimi Flowers were both named to the All Conference team and Academic All Conference team. Sophomore Maeve Savage was also named to the All Conference Team. The Hornets start regionals on Monday against Bogan at 6pm. Let’s go Hornets!!
Freshman Week 12 brought the Young Lady Hornets to the home of the Glenbard West Hilltoppers in the West Suburban Conference Crossover game. While it was not the outcome the girls had hoped for; with a 3-39 loss, a big shout out goes to Ava Scheirer, Mikayla Boyd, Francesca Arnold, Samantha Johnston, Tejiyha Jones, Briasia Satterfield, and Ghina Kassar for giving their all to the very end. These are the future Lady Hornets and we are so happy to have you with us. Great job girls!!!!!
Week of January 29th
Varsity The Varsity Hornets wrapped up conference play this week against Addison Trail and Proviso East. The Hornets were named Co-Champions in the conference finishing 10-2!
On Tuesday the Hornets beat AT 34-24. Mimi Flowers had 18 points and 4 rebounds. Hailey Goins chipped in 4 points while Maeve Savage had 3 points, 3 rebounds and 4 deflections on defense. Sloane Kiefer had 3 steals and 3 deflections while Brynn Diedrich dished out 3 assists.
The Hornets celebrated their 2 seniors, Mimi Flowers and Mia Lavorato on Friday night before playing Proviso East. It was a wonderful celebration of 2 great leaders and it was followed with a victory defeating the Pirates 39-16. Mia Lavorato hit 5 three pointers in the game and ended up with 17 points and 4 assists. Mimi Flowers added 15 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Maeve Savage had 5 points and 3 steals and Brynn Diedrich had 4 assists in the win.
The Hornets then hosted a afternoon game on Saturday against a very talented and experienced Lincoln Way East team. They fell short losing 22-18, but played fantastic and tough defense. Mia Lavorato had 8 points while Mimi Flowers had 6 points and 11 rebounds.
The Hornets are excited and ready for playoffs to start on Monday, February 12th!
Freshman Week 11 was filled with the final two conference games for the Young Lady Hornets. The first game brought visiting Addison Trails where the girls pulled off an amazing 25-22 double overtime win. Ava Scheirer and Samantha Johnston brought the girls back from a 7-point deficit with two minutes left, with Ava scoring the game tying layup at the end of the regulation buzzer. It was truly an amazing game to watch as the girls fought the entire game to take the win.
The second game brought Proviso East and a hard 17-28 loss. Briasia Satterfield challenged the visiting team with 8 blocks before their opponents became hot from the floor and barely missed. The girls finished 8-4 in conference, which is an amazing feat for the first year Hornets. Great job this season girls and we cannot wait to watch you grow and become better with each new year!!!
Week of January 22nd
Varsity The Varsity Hornets endured 2 tough losses on the road this week. The girls battled to the end in both games, but fell short to both Providence Catholic and Downers Grove South. The Hornets lost to Providence Catholic on Monday 44-41. Mimi Flowers had 17 points and 8 rebounds. Mia Lavorato had 11 points and 4 steals while Hailey Goins added 7 points. Maeve Savage and Brynn Diedrich each had 5 and 4 rebounds respectively.
The Hornets traveled to DGS on Friday and lost 44-29. Maeve Savage led the way with 11 points and pulled down 6 rebounds. Mimi Flowers had a double double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Sloane Kiefer chipped in 4 points and had 3 rebounds and 5 deflections on defense. Brynn Diedrich dished out 4 assists. We are looking forward to celebrating with our seniors on Friday, February 2 against Proviso East.
Freshman Week 10 was an exciting week for the Young Lady Hornets. The first game the girls visited Providence Catholic in a tough 10-40 loss. The girls were headed by Ghina Kassar who had 6 of the 10 points and 4 steals before the opposing team took over.
In the second game of the week, the girls went to Downers Grove South for a big conference game. The girls overcame a 5 point deficit in the final moments to take a 24-23 win. Ava Scheirer hit the game winning free-throw to put the girls back in the running for a first place finish in conference. Great job this week girls you played fantastic!!!
Week of January 15th
Varsity The Varsity Hornets started the week off at Benet playing in the 33rd annual Kipp Hoopfest. The girls faced a very talented team from Libertyville and lost 56-31. Mimi Flowers had 11 points while Mia Lavorato had 6 points and Hailey Goins chipped in 4 points. Mimi was named player of the game.
The Hornets traveled to Morton on Friday and defeated the Mustangs 46-26. Mimi Flowers recorded another double double with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Mia Lavorato had 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Hailey Goins had a nice game off the bench scoring 9 points and recording 4 deflections on defense. Brynn Diedrich dished out 5 assists in the win.
The Hornets hosted Willowbrook on Saturday and defeated the Warriors 51-36. It was an exciting and memorable night as Mimi Flowers scored her 1000th point in the game and ended with 6 points and 15 rebounds. Mia Lavorato led the way with 14 points and pulled down 5 rebounds. Maeve Savage and Hailey Goins each had 10 points in the win. The Hornets are now 19-6 over all and 8-1 in conference play. Congrats to Mimi on reaching such a great milestone in her high school career. Freshman Week 9 of the Young Lady Hornets season was filled with two big conference games and two big wins. In the first game the girls paid a visit to the home of the Morton Mustangs. In the 31-19 win, Ava Scheirer commanded the game by scoring 20 of the Hornets 31 points.
In the second game, Willowbrook came to the home of the Lady Hornets where the girls pulled off a comeback 23-21 win. Samantha Johnston hit two big 3-pointers in the last minutes to take the lead over the visiting team, pushing the girls to the win. It was an exciting comeback win for the girls and they hope to take that energy to the remainder of the season.
Week of January 8th
Varsity The Varsity Hornets braves the wild winter weather we had this week and came out of it 1-1. Improving to 17-5 overall and 6-1 in conference. The girls defeated Leyden on Tuesday 52-28. Maeve Savage led the way with 16 points while grabbing 4 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists and snatching 3 steals. Mimi Flowers chipped in 12 points and pulled down 9 rebounds. Brynn Diedrich has a great all around game recording an impressive 8 steals and scoring 6 points. She also had 4 assists and 4 rebounds in the win. The Hornets then made the long trek to Quincy to take on #3 Quincy Notre Dame. The girls fought hard but came up short losing 43-31. Mimi Flowers led all scorers with 13 points and had 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Maeve Savage had 8 points and 5 rebounds while Mia Lavorato had 8 points and 3 steals. It was a great experience and the girls had a lot of fun making memories despite the loss.
Freshman Week 8 brought the Young Lady Hornets to the home of Eagles of Leyden for the only game this week. In the hard fought 20-22 loss, Francesca Arnold hit a big three point shot to tie the game before the Eagles responded with a game winning shot. The three pointer allowed Francesca to finish with 9 points and 4 steals on the night. It was a great game to watch and the girls are excited to get to the next game.
Week of January 1st
Varisty The Varsity Hornets improved to 16-4 overall and 5-1 in conference with wins over Addison Trail and Minooka this week.
Friday, January 5th - The Hornets defeated Addison Trail 40-29. Mimi Flowers had another double double scoring 15 points and pulling down 13 boards. Sloane Kiefer was hot from the 3 point line hitting 4 from behind the arc and finishing with 15 points. Maeve Savage chipped in 8 points and dished out 4 assists. Mia Lavorato had a great all around game with 5 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists. Brynn Diedrich played great defense and came away with 3 steals in the win.
Saturday, January 6th - The girls hosted Minooka and played elite defense in the second half holding the Indians to 3 points the whole half. The Hornets won 44-25. Mimi Flowers had a great second half scoring 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Mia Lavorato had 12 points and 4 assists. Maeve Savage played lockdown defense and had 5 deflections and 4 rebounds. She also had 8 points and dished out 3 assists.
Freshman Week 7 was filled with back to back games to welcome in the new year. The first of the two games was against conference competitor Addison Trails. In the 24-22 win Francesca Arnold and Ava Scheirer ran the floor offensively with a combined 18 of the 24 points.
The second game brought Minooka to the home of the Lady Hornets. In the 8-32 loss, Samantha Johnston kept the girls in the game, but eventually the visiting team was able to pull away from a tired Young Lady Hornets. While the first week in the new year was split, the girls are still a top team in the conference and are hoping to finish strong in the final stretch.
Week of December 25th
Varsity The varsity Hornets traveled to Orland Park for the Sandburg Holiday Tournament on Wednesday, December 27th. The girls defeated Riverside Brookfield 49-39 in their first game. Mia Lavorato led the way with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Mimi Flowers also had a great game with 16 points and 20 rebounds! Maeve Savage had 6 points and Sloane Kiefer chipped in 4 points in the win. In the 2nd game the girls then took on a very talented Romeoville team and fell short losing 55-46. The game was full of runs from both teams. Mia Lavorato had 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Maeve Savage and Mimi Flowers both contributed 10 points each. Savage also pulled down 6 rebounds and dished out 6 assists.
The Hornets then played Hammond Central from Indiana on Thursday and defeated them 52-44. Seniors Mimi Flowers and Mia Lavorato had great games in the win. Mimi led the way with 21 points and 20 rebounds while Mia had 19 points, 3 assists and 3 rebounds. Brynn Diedrich played great defense and chipped in 6 points and had 3 assists and 3 steals. Hailey Goins also had 5 points in the win! The Hornets played Minooka for 5th place on Friday and came out on top 39-37. Mia Lavorato had 14 points and 5 rebounds while Mimi Flowers recorded another double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Sloane Kiefer has a great defensive game and scored 5 points while having 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Hailey Goins chipped in 4 clutch points to secure the win. Mia Lavorato was named to the all tournament team. The Hornets are now 14-4 overall.
Week of December 18th
Varsity The Varsity Hornets had just one game this week and made the most of it! They defeated the Bulldogs from Richards High School 54-26. Mia Lavorato had herself a game scoring 21 points and dishing out 7 assists. The Hornets got balanced scoring from Hailey Goins with 9 points, Mimi Flowers scores 8 points and Maeve Savage had 7 points. The Hornets retrun to action on 12/27 in the Sandburg Christmas Tournament.
Freshman Week 6 was filled with only a single game, however, it was an amazing game for the Young Lady Hornets. In the 33-2 win, Ghina Kassar and Tejiyha Jones scored their first points of the season for a combined 7 of the team's 33 points. It truly was a fantastic way to end the first half of the season. Great job girls!!!
Week of December 11th
Varsity The Varsity Hornets had a great week of victories! The girls secured 2 conference wins over both Leyden and Proviso East and had a convincing win against Glenbard South.
On Tuesday the Hornets defeated Leyden 58-30. Mimi Flowers let the way with a double double scoring 23 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Mia Lavorato had a great all around game with 15 points, 7 assists and 6 steals. Maeve Savage added 10 points and 8 deflections on defense.
The Hornets hosted Glenbard South on Wednesday and came out ready to go defeating them 42-19. Mimi Flowers recorded another double double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Mia Lavorato had a triple double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Maeve Savage scored 8 points and pulled down 11 boards while Hailey Goins had 4 points and 5 steals in the win.
On Friday the Hornets traveled to Proviso East and secured another conference win beating the Pirates 45-19. Mimi Flowers kept up with the double doubles and had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Mia Lavorato had another great all around game with 11 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Maeve Savage played outstanding defense and had 3 steals and 2 blocked shots as well as 10 points and 8 rebounds. The Hornets are now 10-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
Freshman Week 5 of the season was heartbreaking for the Young Lady Hornets. In the first game, the girls pulled off a huge comeback win against conference rival Leyden with a 33-20 win. At one point the girls were trailing by as many as 9 before coming back and controlling the game with dominance. Briasia Satterfield had a double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The second game, the girls welcomed Glenbard South in a tough 24-28 loss. The girls were in the lead for most of the game, fueled by an amazing performance from Ava Scheirer and Francesca Arnold, but the deep bench of the visiting team proved too much in the end. The final game of the week was a challenging 6-24 loss against Proviso East. With the end of the first half of the season drawing near the girls are looking to find their groove and finish the season strong.
Week of December 4th
Varsity The Varsity Hornets suffered 2 tough losses this week losing to St. Francis and Downers Grove South. On Thursday night the Hornets battled to the very end, but came up short losing to St. Francis 44-36. Mia Lavorato led the way with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Mimi Flowers recorded a double double scoring 10 points and pulling down 12 boards. Hailey Goins and Maeve Savage each contributed 7 points and 5 points. Anna Wilcox grabbed 3 rebounds and had 3 steals while Sloane Kiefer had 5 rebounds. The girls then hosted Downers Grove South on Friday night and lost their first conference game 29-24. The ball did not want to find the end of the net! Mia Lavorato had 11 points while Maeve Savage had 6 points and 8 rebounds. Mimi Flowers pulled down 6 rebounds. The Hornets are now 7-3 over all and 2-1 in conference. They host both Leyden and Glenbard South this week and travel to Proviso East on Friday.
Freshman Week 4 was a tough week for the short handed Lady Hornets. Their first game had them traveling to Wheaton to face a strong St.Francis team. In the 5-45 loss, the hornets put up their best fight against an opponent with a deep bench.
In the second game of the week, the Young Lady Hornets were visited by conference rival Downers Grove South. In the 17-29 loss Francesca Arnold and Samantha Johnston fought to make a comeback in the final quarter but injuries took some of the momentum away. While it was a tough week with losses there is plenty more basketball to play for these girls.
Week of November 27th
Varsity The Hornets had another great week of basketball securing 2 conference wins against Willowbrook and Morton and a hard fought victory over Hinsdale Central. The Hornets started the week off with a win over Willowbrook 51-36. Mimi Flowers had a double double with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Maeve Savage had 9 points while Mia Lavorato had 6 points and 4 assists. Brynn Diedrich chipped in 6 points and had 4 steals while Sloane Kiefer pulled down 6 rebounds in the win.
The girls kept the winning going with a victory over Hinsdale Central 35-32. Maeve Savage led the way with 13 points 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Mia Lavorato had a solid game with 8 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Mimi Flowers had 7 points and 8 rebounds while Hailey Goins contributed 5 points.
The Hornets hosted Morton on Saturday night and came out with a win defeating them 52-32. Mimi Flowers had another monstrous game with 24 points, 19 rebounds and 3 steals. Mia Lavorato had 12 points, 5 assists and 3 steals while Maeve Savage had 6 points and 7 rebounds. Hailey Goins had some great drives to the hoop and scored 5 points in the win. The Girls are 7-1 overall and 2-0 on conference.
Freshman Week 3 was an exciting week for the Young Lady Hornets as it was the beginning of their conference play. The first game had the girls travel to Willowbrook where they took their first conference win with a score of 30-14. Briasia Satterfield and Payton Hallman were powerhouses on the defensive end by allowing only four points in the second half.
The second game of the week the girls visited district rival Hinsdale Central in an unfortunate 10-36 loss. Michyla Boyd fought to keep the girls in the game but the Red Devils refused to take a loss on home court.
The last game of the week brought conference rival Morton to the home of the Hornets. In the 28-15 win Ava Scheirer and Samantha Johnston led the offensive push scoring for a combined 22 of the 28 points. The win brought the Young Lady Hornets to a 2-0 start in conference play and a new aura of confidence within themselves.
Week of November 20th
Varsity The Varsity Hornets returned to action in the Brenda Whitesell Tournament on Tuesday with a great team win over Stagg. The Hornets defeated Stagg 44-39. Mimi Flowers had a double double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Maeve Savage chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds while Mia Lavorato had 6 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Brynn Diedrich played great defense and came away with 5 steals.
The girls then took on a tough St. Ignatius team on Saturday for 5th place. They played their best game of the season so far and defeated the Wolfpack 46-16. Mimi Flowers led all scorers with 14 points and pulled down 6 rebounds. Maeve Savage was just shy of a double double with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Mia Lavorato was a great leader on the floor and had 8 points, 3 assists and 6 rebounds. Freshman Brynn Diedrich contributed 7 points and 4 assists. Sloane Kiefer and Anna Wilcox both played tenacious defense. Kiefer had 5 points and 7 rebounds while Wilcox secured 3 rebounds. The Hornets got 5th place in the tournament and improve to 4-1 on the season. They begin conference play on Tuesday against Willowbrook.
Freshman The second week of the season brought the tournament to a close with a win and a loss. The first game gave the Young Lady Hornets their first win against a tough Romeoville team. In the 28-13 win, Payton Hallman and Tejiyha Jones were instrumental on the defensive end with 4 steals each.
In the final crossover game, the girls were challenged with a short roster against a stacked Plainfield South team. In the 16-29 loss, Sam Johnston and Ava Scheirer fought to keep the game close by providing a combined 14 of the 16 points scored. While the tournament did not go the way the girls had hoped they have their eyes set on the rest of the season starting next week.
Week of November 13th
Varsity The 2023-2024 varsity Hornets started their season with a bang! The Hornets defeated Oswego 55-42. Senior Mimi Flowers led the way with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Fellow senior Mia Lavorato added 13 points and 7 assists. Sophomores Maeve Savage and Hailey Goins chipped in 11 points and 9 points respectively while Freshman Brynn Diedrich made her debut with 9 points and 5 rebounds.
The girls stayed in the win column with a convincing victory over Metea Valley to start the annual Brenda Whitesell Tournament. The hornets won 54-35. Mimi Flowers had a dominating performance in the paint scoring 30 points and recording 15 rebounds. Maeve Savage had 9 points and 7 rebounds while Mia Lavorato dished out 7 assists in the victory.
The Hornets suffered their first loss in the second game of the tournament losing to Sandburg 44-42. Mia Lavorato had 13 points, 3 assists and 4 rebounds. Hailey Goins had 10 points while Mimi Flowers secured 11 rebounds. Brynn Diedrich had 9 points and 3 assists while Maeve Savage recorded 7 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. The Hornets return to action Tuesday night against Stagg.
Freshman In the first week of the Young Lady Hornets season, they were set to play 3 games. While they had home advantage for the first week the team had an unfortunate start with several injuries and illness that held them back from experiencing their first wins. In the first game, they face off against Oswego in a 15-18 loss. Michyla Boyd and Noelle Ozdinec kept the game close with their offensive charge but was cut short when Michyla left with an injured ankle.
The second game of the week was also the beginning of the annual Brenda Whitesell Tournament. The girls faced off against Metea Valley with a tough 18-22 loss. Ava Scheirer fought to keep the game close with 12 of the 18 points in the second half.
The last game of the week brought cross conference opponent Oak Park River Forest in a hard 25-31 loss. Briasia Satterfield and Samantha Johnston kept the girls in the game but could not keep up with the roster depth of OPRF. Despite the losses it was a fantastic first week for the Young Lady Hornets and we are beyond excited to see what happens when a full and healthy team returns.
