Freshman The final game of the season brought York to the home of the Hornets in the end of year Conference Crossover Game. The Dukes were relentless against the Young Lady Hornets causing them to lose their last game of the season 9-59. While the girls may have lost their last game, they won their conference with a final record of 10-2. A big shout out to Molly Curley, Tala Khair, Gabi Hanson, Kennedy Ruff, Alex Kuhlman, Mija Stankeviciute, Arianna Lam, Kaleia Lin, Tia Tomov, Ameera Mullins, and Morgan Chriss on their fantastic season.
Week of January 30th
Varsity The Varsity Hornets wrapped up conference play this week with 2 road wins against Addison Trail and Proviso East! With those wine The Lady Hornets secured Second Place in conference!
The girls faced Addison Trail on Tuesday night and came out on top winning 37-19. Maeve Savage led the way with 11 points and had 5 rebounds. Mimi Flowers contributed 8 points and 3 rebounds while Mia Lavorato chipped in 7 points, dished out 3 assists and had 4 steals. Hailey Goins added 6 points in the win!
The girls traveled to Proviso East on Thursday and won 43-32 despite a very slow start. Mimi Flowers led all scorers with 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Mia Lavorato had 8 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds. Maeve Savage had a game high 5 blocks and grabbed 6 rebounds. Sloane Kiefer had 7 points in the win. The girls will face York in the conference cross over game on Monday night at home.
JV
Freshman The final week of the regular season for the Young Lady Hornets consisted of two conference away games. The first game had the girls visiting Addison Trails where they took a big 30-13 win. Tia Tomov and Kaleia Lin dominated the paint with a combined 18 of the 30 points.
The second game was against a strong Proviso East team. The girls fought back from an 8-point deficit to force overtime in an eventual 30-26 win. Kennedy Ruff and Kaleia Lin had all 30 points for the Young Lady Hornets and with the win solidified their first place finish in conference play.
Week of January 23rd
Varsity The Varsity Hornets started off their week with a tough loss to Providence Catholic on Monday night 62-49. Mimi Flowers had a great game in the paint with 20 points, 8 rebounds and she took 2 charges. Maeve Savage chipped in 15 points while Mia Lavorato had 11 points and 7 assists.
The girls bounced back from their loss on Monday night and beat Hinsdale Central 48-40 on Senior Night! Mimi Flowers had a monstrous game scoring 23 points and pulling down 20 rebounds. Maeve Savage continued her streak of hitting clutch 3 pointers and ended the game with 14 points. Mia Lavorato had an impressive 8 assists, 6 points and 3 steals. It was a fun night celebrating our seniors Makena Camden and Ella Hardman.
The Hornets ended their week with an impressive win over conference rival Downers Grove South 51-42. The Hornets improved to 17-11 and 6-4 in conference. Mimi Flowers recorded another double double scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Mia Lavorato was money from the free throw line and ended the game with 16 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds. Maeve Savage had another great defensive game and contributed a double double scoring 10 points, and pulling down 10 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists. Hailey Goins added 6 points in the win.
The girls wrap up conference play next week on the road facing Addison Trail and Proviso East. Keep up the great work Hornets!
JV Playing in their first of 3 home games this week, the JV Lady Hornets played the tough Providence Catholic losing 41-30. Like many games before, the Hornets were slow to start trailing Providence 16-31 at half. The Hornets stepped up the defense in the 2nd half only allowing Providence to score 10, but it was not enough and too hard to climb back up. The girls played well and limited TO’s in the 2nd half. Leading the Hornets was Marit Haile with 10 followed by freshman Anna Wilcox with 9. Also contributing for the team was Kallie King (5), Vasilia Polizois (2), Vivian Ling (2) and Ava Chamberlain (2).
In their 2nd home game of the week, the girls played rival school Hinsdale Central. After playing Central earlier in the season, it was obvious that the girls improved greatly. Turnovers continue to be the girl’s problem. Leading the Lady Hornets was Ava Chamberlain with 10 points. Several other girls had contributions as well. Marit Haile contributed 6, Kallie King (3), Anna Wilcox (3), Vasilia Polizois (2), and Vivian Ling 2.
The final home stretch for the week was against conference rival Downers Grove South. This was a close game from start to finish with the girls trailing almost the entire game. The final score was close but the girls triumphed and won 20-16! Marit Haile led the Hornets with 9, including 6 crucial points in the 4th quarter. Freshman Anna Wilcox scored 5 points, Vakare Ivoskis hit a key 3 point shot, Kallie King (2) and Vasilia Polizois had 1. It was a great team fight and a much needed victory by the JV Lady Hornets!
Freshman Week 11 brought another exciting week to the Freshmen Girls Basketball team. The girls started their 3 game home stretch against Providence Catholic with a 26-33 loss. The girls trailed by ten going into the second quarter and were tied by halftime. They fought hard before eventually losing steam. Morgan Chriss and Ameera Mullins put up big minutes and had 14 of the 26 points for the Young Lady Hornets.
The second game brought cross-conference rival Hinsdale Central to the Hornets Nest where they took a huge 23-20 win over the Red Devils. Kennedy Ruff and Alex Khulman took charge of that game with a combined 16 points.
The final game brought conference rival Downers Grove South to the home of the Young Lady Hornets. The girls were able to dominate the Mustangs with a 40-24 win. Molly Curley had 14 points with three 3-pointers hit in a row. It was a great week for the girls as they are going into the end of the season tied for first in conference.
Week of January 16th
Varsity The Varsity Hornets lost a conference game on the road Tuesday night at Morton. The girls fought hard, but came up short losing the game 46-40. Mia Lavorato had 17 points and 6 assists while Mimi Flowers added 11 points and 6 rebounds. Maeve Savage also contributed with 8 points, 3 assists and 3 rebounds.
The girls bounced back from a tough loss on Tuesday night and beat a very good St. Viator team in OT on Friday night 56-49. Mia Lavorato hit 3 clutch free throws to put the game into overtime. She led the way with 17 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Mimi Flowers recorded a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Maeve Savage hit clutch 3 pointers in the game and ended up with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Hailey Goins had 10 points and 3 rebounds in the win.
The Varsity Hornets stayed in the winning column with a big win on Saturday night over conference rival Willowbrook 43-37. Mia Lavorato was a great leader and handled the pressure very well and ended the game with 16 points, 3 assists and 7 rebounds. Mimi Flowers had a great game in the paint with 11 points and an impressive 17 rebounds. Maeve Savage played amazing defense and ended the game with 9 points, 2 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks.
The girls have a busy week next week and are looking forward to celebrating the Seniors Makena Camden and Ella Hardman on Wednesday night against Hinsdale Central.
JV The JV Lady Hornets began week 10 with a road game against conference rival Morton. The girls played smart and were victorious, beating Morton 33-24. Marit Haile led the Hornets with 16 points, including 1 3 pointer and 5 for 6 at the free throw line. Vakare Ivoskis & Vivian Ling also sank 3 point baskets. Freshman Anna Wilcox contributed 4 points, Ava Chamberlain (3), Vasilia Polizois (2), Kallie King (2). It was a great team win! The second game of the week was against a tough opponent, St. Viator, at home. The girls were slow to begin, trailing St. Viator 13-22 at halftime. Playing with determination, the girls fought as hard as they could to climb back in the 4th quarter, but time was not on our side. While the Hornets lost this game, their determination to not give up was very encouraging to see. Leading the Hornets was Marit Haile with 15 points. Freshman Anna Wilcox scored 10 for the Lady Hornets. Other contributors were Ava Chamberlain with 4, Kallie King (3), Vakare Ivoskis (1). The girls shot 31 free throws, only sinking 13.
The third game of the week for the JV Lady Hornets was against Willowbrook, losing a conference game 41-22. The score was tied 13-13 at half, but Willowbrook had the energy and determination to beat our Hornets after losing to them earlier in the season. The girls could not handle the pressure of a press, turning the ball over way too many times. Leading the Hornets was Marit Haile with 14 followed by freshman Anna Wilcox with 5 and Ava Chamberlain with 3. Freshman Week 10 was an exciting week for the Young Lady Hornets as they had 3 big games to play. The first was a rematch against Morton where the girls pulled off a 25-22 win on the road. Kaleia Lin and Kennedy Ruff combined for 16 of the hornets 25 points to give the girls the win. This win also gave the girls a shared first place lead for conference.
The second game brought St. Viator to the home of the Hornets. The girls suffered a hard 23-31 loss after having the lead majority of the game. Molly Curley started the game with three-3 pointers in a row and ended with 13 in the loss.
The final game of the week sent the girls to host Willowbrook where they won against the Young Lady Warriors 37-21. Alex Kulhman, Kennedy Ruff, Molly Curley, Gabi Hanson and Ameera Mullins put up a huge defensive effort that held the Warriors to zero points in the first quarter. The win solidified the girls position in first place with fellow conference team Morton.
Week of January 9th
Varsity The varsity Hornets lost a close game to Leyden on Tuesday 51-49. Mia Lavorato fell short of a triple double and led the team with 15 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds. Mimi Flowers and Maeve Savage each added 13 points in the loss. Hailey Goins had 7 points and 3 assists.
The girls bounced back with a great win over Normal West at the MLK tournament in Dekalb. The Hornet beat Normal West 52-47. There was balanced scoring from both Mia Lavorato and Maeve Savage. Mia had 17 points with 8 assists and 4 steals while Maeve hit 4 three pointers and ended up with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Mimi Flowers contributed 9 points and 5 rebounds in the win.
The girls played a second game at the tournament and fought hard to the end, but fell short losing to Burlington Central 47-28. Hailey Goins led the way with 10 points while Mia Lavorato chipped in 9 points with 5 rebounds and took 2 charges! Makena Camden had 6 rebounds.
JV The JV Lady Hornets played 1 game this week against conference team Leyden falling short with a final score of 21-27. Down 9-21 after the 3rd quarter, the girls fought as hard as they could to bring the score within 6 but ran out of time. Leading the Hornets was Marit Haile with 13, including several and 1’s. Also contributing was Anna Wilcox with 2 and Kallie King with 4.
Freshman Week 9 of the season consisted of a single game which brought visiting Leyden to the home of the Young Lady Hornets. Kenney Ruff dominated the inside paint with 14 points underneath the basket to carry the team to a 35-21 win. Kaleia Lin supported the team with 7 assists and 6 points. It was a great game for the girls as it placed them above .500 for the first time this season with that win.
Week of January 2nd
Varsity The varsity Hornets started the new year off with a bang with a come back win at Glenbard South on Tuesday night. The Hornets trailed by as many as 16 points and won the game 43-40. Mimi Flowers had a monstrous game scoring 23 points while grabbing 8 rebounds. Mia Lavorato contributed 10 points and dished out 5 assists. Maeve Savage had 2 clutch 3 pointers and ended the game with 8 points, 4 rebounds and 5 steals.
The Hornets stayed in the win column with a victory over Addison Trail on Friday night. Mia Lavorato led the way with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Mimi Flowers added 9 points and 7 rebounds. Hailey Goins had 6 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals.
The Varsity team suffered their first loos of the new year against Minooka on Saturday morning. The girls battled all the way to the end, but fell short losing 52-40. Mia Lavorato had 13 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Teammate Hailey Goins chipped in 13 points as well and had 5 rebounds and 2 assists in the loss. Maeve Savage scored 8 points and had 2 steals. The girls welcome conference opponent Leyden on Tuesday. JV The JV Lady Hornets had 3 games this week, losing all 3. The girls fail to keep possession of the ball and need to improve their turnover ratio. Their first game was against Glenbard South losing 16-25. Marit Haile led the Hornets with 10 points. Ava Chamberlain contributed 5 and Vakare Ivoskis sank 1 free throw.
Next up was a strong rival conference game against Addison Trail. The girls dug a hole in the 3rd quarter down by 11 and could not climb out of it losing to Addison Trail 16-23. Leading the Hornets was Marit Haile & Samieh Shehadeh both with 6 points each. Freshman Anna Wilcox contributed 4 points.
The final game of the week was at Minooka High School where the girls played their toughest opponent yet. They were pressed the entire game and could not handle the pressure losing to Minooka 16-43. Samieh Shehadeh and Marit Haile both scored 4 points each. Kallie King contributed 2, Anna Wilcox (2) Vivian Ling (2) and Hanin Tajeddin (2).
Freshman Week 8 started the new year off with having the Young Lady Hornets playing three games. The first game was against Glenbard South, where the visiting Hornets took a hard fought 27-24 win over the Raiders. Tala Khair and Gabi Hanson came off the bench to give the girls a much needed defensive boost to stop the Raiders from making a comeback in the final minutes.
The second game of the week had conference competitor Addison Trails visit the home of the Young Hornets. In the 19-12 win, Morgan Chriss and Kaleia Lin led the offensive charge with a combined 10 of the 19 points.
The final game of the week the girls visited Minooka where they suffered a 19-39 loss. Kennedy Ruff put up 13 of the 19 points with 11 rebounds to give the girls a fighting chance to stay in the game but the back to back games proved too much for the Young Lady Hornets.
Week of December 26th
Varsity The Varsity Hornets opened up tournament play with a win over Oak Lawn High School 38-34. The Hornets overcame an 11 point deficit to get their 4th win in a row. Maeve Savage led the way with 14 points and 3 steals. Mia Lavorato had 12 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. She also showed great leadership and toughness by taking a clutch charge at the end of the game to secure the win. Mimi Flowers chipped in 7 points and had 8 rebounds.
The Girls then played a second game against a very talented Lincoln Way East team. They fell short losing 52-31. Mia Lavorato and Hailey Goins each had 10 points while Mimi Flowers and 8 points and 7 rebounds. Makena Camden also had 4 rebounds.
The Varsity Hornets were hoping to bounce back against a talented Providence team, but they couldn’t overcome the shooting from the talented Providence team. Mimi Flowers had 12 points and 4 rebounds in the loss while Mia Lavorato had 9 points and 3 assists. Maeve Savage recorded 7 rebounds and Hailey Goins had 6 points and 2 assists.
The Hornets faced Andrew High school as their final opponent in the tournament. The Hornets won 41-33 earning 7th place out of the 16 team tournament. Mia Lavorato had 15 points, 6 assists, 9 rebounds, 3 steals and took 2 charges! Maeve Savage hit some big shots and ended up scoring 14 points and getting 3 rebounds. Mimi Flowers was in could trouble most of the game, but ended up with 6 points and 3 rebounds. Makena Camden played tough and had 4 assists and 2 steals. Congratulations to Mia Lavorato for being named to the All Tournament Team! The girls ended 2022 with 10 wins and are hungry for more!
JV The JV Lady Hornets traveled to Riverside Brookfield for the JV holiday tournament. They played Morton and got a much needed win in their first game, winning 23-19. The girls played tough defense and had a hard-fought 4th quarter. Leading the Hornets was Marit Haile with 8 points and many rebounds. Freshman Anna Wilcox & Kallie King both scored 4 points each. Other contributors were Ava Chamberlain (3), Vasilia Polizois (2).
The 2nd matchup in the RB Holiday tournament was against RB; their toughest opponent yet. The girls had a rough first quarter starting the game off 0-11. They quickly picked up momentum, but the first quarter start proved to be too tough to come back from losing to RB 27-38. Leading the Hornets was Marit Haile with 11 points and Ava Chamberlain had 6. Other contributors were Vivian Ling with 5, Vakare Ivoskis 2 and Samieh Shehadeh with 3.
The final game in the RB Holiday Tournament was against Taft for 3rd place. While the game was tight, the girls ran out of steam in the 2nd half and blew a 16-8 lead at half time losing to Taft 20-24. Leading the Hornets was Marit Haile with 11 points. Other contributors were Kallie King with 5, Vivian Ling 2, and Vakare Ivoskis 2.
Freshman Week 7 of the Young Lady Hornets season took place over winter break in the Elgin Holiday Tournament. The girls went 1-2 over the three day span starting with a big comeback win over conference competitor Addison Trail. Alex Kuhlman hit the game winning jump shot to give the girls a 24-22 win, fighting back from a 12 point deficit.
The second game had the girls face a very strong Fenwick team in a tough 14-40 loss. Kaleia Lin did her best to keep the girls in the game with 8 of the 14 points.
In the final game, the girls fought for 3rd place against St. Charles but the third day of playing proved too much and resulted in a 22-35 defeat. Ameera Mullins played well on both ends of the court with 9 points and 3 blocks. Even though the year ended with a couple of tough losses the girls have continued to show they are hard to beat and will look to continue showing how strong they are in the new year.
Week of December 19th
Varsity The Varsity Hornets started out Christmas week with a huge win over Lemont. The Hornets won 61-38. It was great effort from all the girls. Juniors Mia Lavorato and Mimi Flowers led the way with each scoring 16 points. Flowers added 7 rebounds and Lavorato had 8 assists. Freshman Hailey Goins had 10 points and 7 impressive assists. Maeve Savage had 9 points and 3 assists. Sloane Kiefer played lockdown defense and chipped in 6 points. The girls kept their winning streak going with a hard fought win over Richards High School on Tuesday night. Hailey Goins was the top scorer with 18 points while Mia Lavorato was right behind her with 16 points and 9 assists. Maeve Savage had 12 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists while Mimi Flowers added 11 points and 12 rebounds. The Varsity Hornets will be back in action on Monday in the Sandburg Christmas Tournament.
JV The Lady Hornets had back-to-back games this week and suffered 2 disappointing non-conference losses. The first game was to Lemont, losing 13-16. Marit Haile led the Hornets with 8 points. Other contributors were Kallie King (3), and Ava Chamberlain 2. The girls had the opportunity to come back in the fourth quarter but could not execute.
The following day the girls traveled to Richards High School where they came up short handed, losing to Richards 28-37. The girls struggled with turnovers and only converted 5 of 15 free throws. Marit Haile led the Hornets with 10 points while Ava Chamberlain had 5. Other contributors were freshman Anna Wilcox with 4, Vasilia Polizois 4, Rey Nwakudu hit both of her FTs, Kallie King (2) and Vivian Ling 1.
Freshman Week 6 of the Young Lady Hornets season had the girls play back-to-back days, both of which resulted in wins. In the first game the girls paid a visit to Lemont where they were headed by Molly Curley and Kaleia Lin in the 30-14 win. Both girls hit big time three pointers to extend the lead while holding the Lemont team to only 3 points in the second half.
In the second game, the girls paid a visit to Richards where they won 28-16. Alex Kuhlman and Ameera Mullins took control of the game on both ends of the court with a combined 12 points and 7 steals. As we near the end of the first half of the season the girls are on a hot streak and hope to continue the trend.
Week of December 12th
Varsity The varsity Hornets suffered a disappointing conference loss to Leyden on Tuesday night. The Hornets lost 40-34. Junior Mia Lavorato hit 5 three pointers and ended the game with 18 points. She also had 4 assists, 5 rebounds and 6 steals. Junior Mimi Flowers had 12 rebounds while Freshman Sloane Kiefer had 4 rebounds. Others players that contributed were Hailey Goins with 7 points, Maeve Savage with 5 points and senior Makena Camden with 3 rebounds and 3 steals.
The Hornets bounced back on Friday night at home against Proviso East winning 51-31. It was a well balanced game with everyone contributing! Mimi Flowers had another double double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Mia Lavorato fell short of a triple double with 12 points, 8 assists and 5 steals. Freshman Maeve Savage had 6 points and 4 steals. Senior Ella Hardman has some great finishes under the rim scoring 6 points. Sloane Kiefer was phenomenal on defense and ended up with 6 rebounds. Hailey Goins had 4 points while Keira Murphy hit a three pointer! Makena Camden finished the game with 3 assists. Great team win ladies!
JV The Lady Hornets traveled to Leyden and lost 39-21. It was a tough matchup, and the girls could not come back and playing down 9-22 after the first half. Leading the Hornets was Marit Haile with 9. Vivian Ling scored 4, Ava Chamberlain & Kallie King scored 3 each and Anna Wilcox scored 2.
The JV Lady Hornets host Proviso East at home losing 38-33. The girls were 0-9 at the free throw line. They never gave up and worked hard from start to finish, but turnovers proved to be the major differential between the 2 teams. Anna Wilcox led the Hornets with 12 points and several offensive and defensive rebounds. Kallie King scored 5, Vakare Ivoskis had 6, Marit Haile scored 4, Ava chamberlain also scored 4 and Vasilia Polizois had a bucket. Freshman In the fifth week of the season the girls split the week with a loss and a win. Game one of the week had the girls travel to Leyden where they suffered a 17-33 loss. Kaleia Lin and Kennedy Ruff fought to keep the girls in the game but the opposing team proved to be too tough.
The second game brought Proviso East to the home of the Lady Hornets. In the 27-15 win Ameera Mullins and Morgan Chriss sparked the offense to give the girls a much needed win at home. While the week was split with a loss and a win, there is plenty more basketball left in the season for the girls to win.
Week of December 5th
Varsity The Varsity team suffered their first conference loss against Downers Grove South on Friday night. The girls battled until the very end, but fell short losing 56-51. Freshman Hailey Goins led the way with 18 points. Many of those points came from strong attacks to the rim. Junior Mimi Flowers had a double double finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Junior Mia Lavorato almost completed a triple double with 10 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds. The girls travel to Leyden on Tuesday and host Proviso East on Friday night.
JV The JV Lady Hornets had 1 game this week playing at DGS on Friday, December 9th. The girls dug themselves a hole in the first half and were never able to recover, losing 27-24. The made a great second half run, tying the game with a minute left in the 4th, but were unable to secure the victory. Marit Haile led the Hornets with 12 points, making 6 out of 8 free throws. Also contributing was Ava Chamberlain with 3, Vivian Ling with 3, and Rey Nwakudu, Kallie King and Vakare Ivoskis both with 2 points each.
Freshman The fourth week of the Young Lady Hornets consisted of a single game against conference rival Downers Grove South. In the 22-17 win against the Mustangs, Alex Khulman and Gabi Hanson put up an amazing defensive presence, while Kennedy Ruff and Kaleia Lin charged the offense. Give a big shout out to these incredible athletes as this win allowed the girls to share first place in conference.
Week of November 28th
Varsity The varsity Lady Hornets opened up conference play on Tuesday in dramatic fashion with an overtime win over conference rival Willowbrook. The Hornets beat the Warriors 60-53. Freshman Hailey Goins was the leading scorer hitting 4 three pointers and scoring 21 points. Junior Mia Lavorato chipped in 14 points. Mia hit 3 three pointers and made some clutch free throws. Mimi Flowers also hit very clutch free throws and ended the game with 10 points while Freshman Maeve Savage contributed 9 points in the win.
The Hornets faced Morton on Saturday night and got another conference win. They beat the Mustangs 46-26. Junior Mimi Flowers scored 12 points while Senior Ella Hardman and Freshman Hailey Goins each added 10 points. Mia Lavorato took 2 charges and was a great leader on the floor guiding the Hornets to 2-0 in conference play. The girls will have a week worth of practices to get ready for rival DGS on Friday night!
JV 11/29 Home Vs Willowbrook W The Hinsdale South Hornets opened their conference season playing Willowbrook, a team they lost to twice last year. The girls came out from the gate with high intensity and never quit their first conference game 27-23. It was a team effort win from every one of the girls on the team. Ava Chamberlain started the Hornets off with an early lead with a 3-point basket. Marit Haile, despite Willowbrook trying to double team her, was able to score 11 while Kallie King contributed 4. Also scoring was Vakare Ivoskis (2), Anna Wilcox (3), Rey Nwakudu (2), and Samieh Shehadeh (2). It was an excited game all the way to the 4th quarter buzzer and a great Hornet victory!
12/3 Home Vs Morton W The Lady Hornets played at home Saturday night against Morton beating them 24-16 making the Hornets 2-0 in conference! This was a team victory with contributions from all. The score was close up until the 4th quarter where the girls were able to pull ahead and win by 8. Leading the girls was Ava Chamberlain with 9 points from her quick drives to the basket drawing 3 fouls and hitting 3 free throws. Kallie King did a great job taking outside shots, scoring 6 points while Vivian Ling scored 5 points from takeaways. Anna Wilcox (2) & Rey Nwakudu (2) were strong components under the rim having several offensive and defensive rebounds each. An overall great Hornet victory!
Freshman In the third week of the season the girls started their conference play with Willowbrook paying a visit to the Young Lady Hornets. In the 22-12 win, the girls were led by an amazing defensive effort by Ameera Mullins, Alex Khulman, Kaleia Lin, Molly Curley, and Kennedy Ruff. The girls played the entire game and held strong against a full Willowbrook team.
The second game had brought another conference opponent to the home of the Hornets. In the 15-27 loss to Morton, Ameera Mullins and Gabi Hanson put up a great fight to keep an injured team in the game before losing steam. Even though the first week of conference play was split, it was an exciting set of games to watch and will only get more exciting as the season continues.
Week of November 21st
Varsity The Varsity Lady Hornets came away with a victory over St. Francis 38-27 on Monday night. With the win the Lady Hornets were the Consolation Champions of the Brenda Whitesell Tournament. It was a great team win with great defense and energy. Freshmen Maeve Savage and Hailey Goins both led the way with 10 points and 9 points respectively. While Juniors Mia Lavorato and Mimi Flowers each chipped in 6 points.
The Hornets then faced a good Plainfield North team on Friday. They fell short losing 24-57. Freshman Maeve Savage and Junior Mia Lavorato each led the way with 7 points. The Hornets open up Conference play at home on Tuesday against Willowbrook.
JV 11/22 The Lady Hornets were able to bounce back with intensity after their first loss of the season, beating Nazareth 31-18. Our guards did a fantastic job passing it into Yorkville’s vulnerable defense, allowing Marit Haile to score a person best 27 points. Kallie King and Vivian Ling both scored a basket each. It was a great Hornet victory and the girl’s played with high energy and tenacity.
11/26 Playing for 3rd place in the Thanksgiving tournament, the Lady Hornets lost to rival Hinsdale Central 27-21. The girls were down early and could never bounce back as Central kept the lead for the duration of the game. Marit Haile led the Hornets in points with 10. Vakare Ivoskis and Anna Wilcox both scored 4 each, while Ava Chamberlain contributed 3. It was a tough fought match with their Hinsdale rival and the girls never gave up. Freshman The second week of the season continued with the Brenda Whitesell Tournament, where the Young Lady Hornets faced off against Niles North. In their first win of the season, they outscored the opposing team 24-9. The offense was fueled by Kenney Ruff and Tia Tomov each having 8 points.
The final game of the tournament pitted the girls against conference contenders Addison Trails. The girls had the lead but the holidays caught up and suffered a heartbreaking 21-19 loss in the final moments. Alex Khulman put up a fantastic defensive effort with 7 steals to keep the girls in the game until the final seconds. As the tournament comes to a close and the conference season begins these Young Lady Hornets have plenty to be excited about.
Week of November 14th
Varsity The varsity lady hornet basketball team started their season off with a great team win against Oswego high school on Monday night. It was a balanced night of scoring with Junior Mia Lavorato leading the way with great leadership and 14 points. Freshmen Hailey Goins and Maeve Savage made their varsity debut scoring 13 points and 10 points respectively. And Junior Mimi Flowers added in 11 points. It was a great win to start the season!
The hornets then opened up their Tournament play on Tuesday with a tough loss to Plainfield South with a score of 34-46. Freshman Maeve Savage led the way with 10 points while Mia Lavorato chipped in 8 points and Mimi Flowers and Hailey Goins added 7 each.
The girls bounced back with a great win against Stagg on Saturday winning 56-48. Mimi Flowers dominated the paint scoring 23 points. Freshman Hailey Goins had some great finishes at the rim chipping in 14 points and Maeve Savage scored 15 points with 12 of those points coming from behind the arc. The girls will face St. Francis on Monday to continue tournament play. Stay tuned as this is going to be a fun group to follow!
JV 11/14 @ Oswego The Hornets began their season with a victory beating Oswego 34-25. Scoring early and passing it into our posts proved to be the way to beat Oswego. Marit Haile led the team with 26 points and several offensive and defensive rebounds. Ava Chamberlain contributed 6 points and Samieh Shehadeh. It was a great start to the season!
11/15 VS Plainfield South The Lady Hornets had a tough matchup to start the Hinsdale South Thanksgiving tournament fighting from start to finish with a final score of 23-21 moving their record to 2-0. It was an intense matchup, but the girls were successful under pressure. Marit Haile led the Hornets with 8 points followed by Kallie King with 6 and Vakare Ivoskis with 5 points. Also contributing to the win was Vivian Ling (3) and Ava Chamberlain (2).
11/19 VS Yorkville The Hornets got their first loss of the season losing to Yorkville 22-43. It was a tough loss with many Hornet turnovers. Marit Haile scored 10 points including making both of her free throws. Samieh Shehadeh had 5 points and Rey Nwakudu scored a basket as well. The Hornets got into foul trouble early and could not keep up with their opponent. Freshman The first game of the 2022-2023 season started off with the Freshman Lady Hornets paying a visit to Oswego. In the tough 20-40 loss Ameera Mullins led the girls in scoring and offensive rebounds with 8 in each category to keep the injury and ill ridden team in the game before losing steam.
The second game of the week kicked off the start of the Brenda Whitesell Tournament with the Young Lady Hornets facing a tough Plainfield South Squad. While the team still suffered players missing due to illness, Kaleia Lin fought to keep the girls in the running, playing all 28 minutes and finishing with 10 of the 14 points.
The last game of week one and the second game of the Tournament, pitted the girls against a stacked Stagg team. The game was well fought until the end with the final score of 15-27. In her first game, Molly Curley scored 6 of her ten points from behind the arc. While the first week was filled with losses, there is much more to come from this Young Lady Hornet squad, and it will be exciting to watch as the season continues.
