Varsity This week the Hornets ended their season after a win and a loss in the Regional Playoffs at home. On Monday, the team played well in a 12 point victory over Willowbrook. Erin Adams had a big game, scoring 22 points against the conference opponent in their third meeting this season.
On Wednesday, the number 15 ranked Hornets took on the number 2, Benet Redwings and suffered a tough, season ending loss. Emily Koziol buried some big shots and led the way for the team. Overall the season was a good one, many players grew and improved and the team ended up tied for 3rd with a 6-6 record in the WSC Gold conference. We also notched 11 wins which was an improvement from last year.
Week of February 5th
Varsity This week, the team played two early games in the week and suffered two more tough losses. Monday night Nazareth Academy brought their A-game for senior night and the Hornets could not fend of the twin towers of the opponent. In the game, Evelyn Edmond led with 8 points, followed by 6 each from Emily Koziol and Erin Adams. The next night was the WSC Conference Cross Over game with Downers Grove North on the road and the team struggled offensively in both the 2nd and 4th quarters with only 3 points in each quarter. Evelyn Edmond led again with 7 points while Emily Koziol added 6. Sophomore The Lady Hornet Sophomore Team had their final two games this week, defeating Nazareth on Monday, and defeating Downers Grove North in the WSC Crossover on Tuesday. In the game against Nazareth, Ciniya McCray led the team with 15 points, Mary Lavorato followed with 13 points and Ellie Urbanski with 6 points and 10 rebounds. In the game against Downers Grove North, Ciniya McCray led with 17 points and 6 steals followed by Olivia Perez with 14 points with 3 three pointers and Mary Lavorato with 10 points and 5 steals.
The Hornets started their season rough, going 2-9 before Christmas Break but still learning every game. After losing the first two games into the new semester, the new and improved Hornets rattled off 7 wins in their last 9 games! Showing improvement in overall confidence while playing together as a team. Better shot selection and great defense helped this team turn the season around and beat some teams that they lost to in the beginning. The group will be something special for years to come! Freshman On Monday the Freshman girls basketball team played Nazareth Academy and came back from a 12-0 game to win 17-13. Mya Goodlow led the way with 10 points. Madison Arflack chipped in 5 points. Jasmine Bonecki-Swire had 2 points. On Tuesday, our last game of the season, the Hornets lost 17-46. Jada Lunsford had 8 points. Jessica Flott and Jasmine Bonecki-Swire both pulled down 6 rebounds. Madison Arflack had 6 points. Mya Goodlow had 4 blocked shots.
Week of January 29th
Varsity The team had the last two conference games this week and unfortunately lost both on the road. In the DGS game on Tuesday, Erin Adams had a big night with 20 points while Evelyn Edmond added 9. Those two both had high scoring games again at Willowbrook on Friday with 11 points each. The team finished 6-6 in conference play and tied for Third with Morton. The WSC cross over game will be against DGN on Tuesday.
Sophomore The Lady Hornet Sophomore Team had two games this week, defeating Downers Grove South on Tuesday, and losing to Willowbrook on Friday. In the game against DGS, Ciniya McCray led the team with 19 points knocking down 4 three pointers, Olivia Perez followed with 17 points with 4 three pointers. In the game against Willowbrook, Ellie Urbanski led with 14 points followed by Olivia Perez with 12 points and Abby Didio with 8 points.
The Hornets are back in action with their final 2 games next week, away against Nazareth on February 5th at 5:30PM and away for the WSC Crossover game on Tuesday February 6th! Freshman The Freshman girls team lost a tough fight at Downers Grove South on Tuesday. After being up most of the game, DGN pulled away to win 40-28. Mia Goodlow had 10 points with three 3 pointers. Mya Goodlow also had 10 points with two 3 pointers. Madison Arflack added 4 points. On Friday night, the team had a tough loss at Willowbrook. The Hornets struggled to score, losing 7-68. The Freshman play next Monday night at Nazareth Academy.
Week of January 22nd
Varsity It was a tough battle on Tuesday with Summer League fo, Richards from Oak Lawn. The hornets unfortunately could not stop the Richards power forward from having a big game and ended up with a loss at home. In the game, Erin Adams recorded 13 points and 6 rebounds while Francesca Markos pitched in 10 more points.
Saturday night was all about the Seniors in the 2018 Lady Hornet Senior Night to recognize the 6 stars. The team had a big conference win over Morton at home by a score of 55-47. Four Hornets scored in double figures including 13 by Evelyn Edmond, and 12 each from Crystal Hardrick, Emily Koziol and Erin Adams. Senior, Alix Muckles added 6 more and the team enjoyed a nice victory at home for Senior Night, With the win the Hornets are 6-4 in conference and tied for 3rd with Morton.
Sophomore The Lady Hornet Sophomore Team had two games this week, defeating Oak Lawn Richards on Tuesday, defeating Morton on Saturday. In the game against Richards, Olivia Perez led the team with 18 points knocking down 4 three pointers, Ciniya McCray followed with 12 points and 4 steals and Ellie Urbanski had 9 points and 7 rebounds. In the game against Morton, Ciniya McCray led with 18 points followed by Mary Lavorato with 12 points and Olivia Perez with 9 points.
The Hornets are back in action with 2 games next week, away against Downers Grove South on January 30th at 4:30PM and away against Willowbrook February 2nd at 6PM!
Freshman The Freshman girls team lost 19-36 against Richards on Wednesday night. Nia Reed lead the way for the Hornets with 7 points. Jada Lunsford and Mia Goodlow both had 4 points. On Saturday night, the team lost 36-52 against Morton, our highest scoring game of the season. Twin sisters Mia and Mya Goodlow lead the team, each scoring 10 points. The team looks for a W next on Tuesday night at Downers Grove South.
Week of January 15th
Varsity After 3 games this week, the team started slow and ended well overall. Tuesday at home, the Mustangs of DGS came in and got the Hornets into early foul trouble which stifled the offensive scoring opportunities. The loss was a tough one but Emily Koziol managed 12 points while sophomore, Crysta Davis popped in two 3 pointers to add 6 points off the bench for the squad.
It was senior night at Glenbard West on Friday and the Hornets had hoped to sneak a big win on the other side of the conference but GBW was tough inside and won by 5 in a close game over the best team in the Silver. The scoring was spread as Evelyn Edmond had 11, Emily Koziol had 8, and Francesca Markos had 7 points in the loss while Erin Adams racked up 10 boards.
The team finally got their win at home over Addison Trail on Saturday. This game was all about Francesca Markos who not only played big defense with 6 steals but was the leading scorer with 15 points! Sophomore The Lady Hornet Sophomore Team had THREE games this week, defeating Downers Grove South on Tuesday, losing to Glenbard West on Friday and defeating Addison Trail on Saturday. In the game against Downers Grove South, Ciniya McCray led the team with 21 points, 3 steals and 5 assists, Mary Lavorato followed with 15 points and 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists. In the game against Glenbard West, Ciniya McCray led with 20 points followed by Ellie Urbanski and Olivia Perez both with 6 points. In the game against Addison Trail, Olivia Perez led with 14 points followed by McCray with 12 points, Lavorato with 10 points and Urbanski with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Victoria Ramirez and Lily Gaibu also got their first points of the season!
The Hornets are back in action with 2 games next week, home against Richards on January 23rd at 5:30PM and home against Morton January 27th at 5PM!
Freshman Freshman girls lost 17-44 against Downers Grove South. Mya Goodlow had 11 points and Mia Goodlow had the other 6 points. On Friday night at Glenbard West, the Freshman lost 26-52. Mia Goodlow had 8 points, Nia Reed and Jada Lunsford both had 5 points. The team lost 54-21 Saturday night at Addison Trail. Mia Goodlow lead the Hornets with 12 points. Mya Goodlow and Madison Arflack both had 4 points.
Week of January 8th
Varsity The Hornets had two conference games this weekend after returning from Holiday break. Aftet visiting Leyden on Friday, the team snuck away with a close win on the road 48-46 with high scoring games by Erin Adams with 14 points and Evelyn Edmond with 9. The next day, the team was defeated at home by Proviso East after leading at halftime. Erin Adams had another big game with a double double on 16 points and 10 rebounds. Emily Koziol chipped in 8 points as well.
Sophomore The Lady Hornet Sophomore Team had two games this week, losing in a good game against Leyden on Friday and losing to Proviso East on Saturday. In the game against Leyden, Ciniya McCray led the team with 16 points, 4 steals and 5 assists, Ellie Urbanski followed with 6 points and 5 rebounds. In the game against Proviso East, Ciniya McCray led with 21 points followed by Abigail Didio with 6 points. The Hornets are back in action with 3 games next week, home against Downers Grove South on January 16th at 6PM, away at Glenbard West on January 19th at 4:30PM and home against Addison Trail January 13 at 2PM!
Freshman The Freshman girls lost 60-15 Friday night against Leyden. Mia Goodlow had two 3 pointers and 1 block. Mya Goodlow had 5 points. Jessica Flott pulled down 5 rebounds. On Saturday night the girls had a thrilling victory over Proviso West. Mia Goodlow had 19 points. Nia Reed had two 3 pointers with 10 total points. The Hornets won 37-20. The ladies look to continue the winning streak at Home Tuesday night against rival Downers Grove South.
Week of December 25th
Varsity Over the Holiday Break, the team played in the Lincoln Way East tournament for the first time and had a tough week with a 1-3 record. The lady hornets had a good start to the tourney with a win over Oak Forest by 1 point on Tuesday. in that win, Erin Adams stepped up and had a big game with 14 points while three other players each added 7 apiece: Evelyn Edmond, Francesca Markos and Emily Koziol.
The next day, the team took on the eventual Tournament Champions and host school, Lincoln Way East. The Griffins were a solid all around team with many weapons and the Hornets played very well but just needed a few more plays to get the upset win. In the loss, both Emily Koziol and Erin Adams came up big with 16 and 15 points respectively. Francesca Markos chipped in 7 points while Evelyn Edmond had 5 boards and 5 steals.
It was the next two games that did not go well for the Hornets. two more losses were recorded over Andrew and Providence and both were due to the teams' inability to play tough and focused for all 4 quarters of the game. The positives however, were a combined 25 points by Koziol in the two games, and 21 for Evelyn Edmond. The team is preparing to get back to it's winning ways in 2018 with the backside of the Conference schedule upcoming in January.
Week of December 18th
Varsity During finals week, the team only had one game before the Holiday break. Although the Hornets fought hard over a tough new opponent, they fell to Argo on the road on Friday. Evelyn Edmond had a big game with 14 points, followed by Emily Koziol with 10 and Francesca Markos with 8. The hornets played tough defense on the leading scorer of Argo, holding her to her first shutout of the season.
Sophomore The Lady Hornet Sophomore Team battled in one game this week, losing to Argo on Friday. In the game against Argo, Mary Lavorato led the team with 8 points and 8 rebounds, Olivia Perez followed with 7 points and 4 steals. Now 2-9, the Hornets are back in action after the Winter Break with away games at Leyden January 12, and home games against Proviso East January 13!
Freshman The Freshman girls team lost a tough one to Argo, 21- 51. Tamia Goodlow lead the way with 11 points , 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Her sister Tamya chipped in 3 points and 2 blocks. Jada Lunsford helped out the team by having 6 rebounds. The team has a little break from games for the holidays and will return to play in January.
Week of December 11th
Varsity The team had two big conference games this week and split again, with a loss at Morton on Tuesday and a win at home on Friday. In the Morton loss, the team played hard but could not fend off the sharp-shooting Mustangs. Erin Adams had a big game scoring 17 points and 3 steals. Emily Koziol added 10 points, while Evelyn Edmond had 9 rebounds. The team came out much stronger at home on Friday and scored 61 total points over Willowbrook which was well above the season average. Nine hornets scored in the game including 13 points by Erin Adams (and 9 rebounds,) 11 points from Francesca Markos, and 10 from Alix Muckles. Evelyn Edmond had 7 points and 9 rebounds as well. With the win, the team is now 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the WSC Gold Conference.

Freshman The Freshman girls played Morton West on Tuesday and lost 10-38. Mya Goodlow finished with 4 points and 2 steals. Nia Reed and Sara Suwelem both chipped in a 3 pointer. On Thursday the team lost to Willowbrook. They came out in a very tough press right from the beginning that was hard to break. We lost 14-60. Madison Arflack grabbed 5 rebounds and made 3 baskets. Jada Lunsford and Nia Reed both added a 3 pointer. The girls have a little break before their next game on Friday December 22 at Argo.
Week of December 4th
Varsity The hornets played two conference games this week and split with a win over Leyden and loss to Proviso East. In the win, Evelyn Edmond picked up 11 points to lead the way while Francesca Markos added 7.In the game, 8 players recorded points and the entire team fought hard all game to fend off the visiting team. It was the other way around, however in the loss over Proviso, the hornets were stumped by a fast, high scoring team. Emily Koziol managed to knock down 4 three-pointers for a 12 point game, while Erin Adams added 8 points.
Sophomore The Lady Hornet Sophomore Team battled in two games this week, losing to Leyden on Tuesday and losing to Proviso East on Wednesday. In the game against Leyden, Ciniya McCray led the team with 9 points, Abigail Didio followed with 7 points. In the game against Proviso East, Ciniya McCray led with 18 points, followed by Abigail Didio with 10 points and Elena Mazurek with 7 points. Now 2-6, the Hornets look to bounce back with a road game against Morton on Tuesday (December 12) and home against Willowbrook on Friday (December 15)!
Freshman Freshman A team lost a tough battle against Leyden on Tuesday night with the score of 39-27. Ellie Urbanski led the team with 13 points and 9 defensive rebounds. Maddison Arflack followed with 5 points and 3 defensive rebounds. The Freshman B team beat Leyden 24-15. Sara Abu Suwelem led the team with 13 points and 5 steals. Jada Lunsford followed with 9 points and 4 steals.
On Thursday night the Freshman teams dominated against Proviso East! Freshman A won 26-22 with Mia Goodlow leading the team with 14 points. The Freshman B team won 19 to 16. Sara Abu Suwelem led the team with 10 points. Jessica Flott worked hard on defensive and made a few important free throws at the end to get us the win!
Week on November 27
Varsity The hornets picked up two big road wins this week to go 4-2 overall. The first was a 47-38 conference win over Addison Trail where Evelyn Edmond led the team to an 11 point victory with a double double including 11 points and 11 rebounds. She also had 4 steals and 4 blocks as the defensive stopper for the team! Emily Koziol added 11 points and Francesca Markos also has 10 in the victory.
The squad had a low scoring defensive battle on Thursday over West Chicago with a 31-26 non-conference win. After a big first half, the hornets were lucky to fend off the fourth quarter rush of WC after only scoring 2 points in the last quarter. Emily Koziol has 10 points for the hornets and the team shot better from the free throw line, going 13/20. The team has two big conference games ahead next week with Leyden and Proviso East.
Sophomore The Lady Hornet Sophomore Team battled in two games this week, losing to Addison Trail on Tuesday and defeating West Chicago on Thursday. In the game against AT, Ciniya McCray led the team with 25 points and 3 steals, Elena Mazurek followed with 8 points.
In the game against West Chicago, Mary Lavorato led with 13 points and 3 boards followed by Olivia Perez with 11 points and 4 steals. Abigail Didio and Lejla Useini stood out with big rebounds and steals. Now 2-4, the Hornets look to continue their strong performance with their first home game against Leyden on Tuesday (December 5) and on the road against Proviso East on Wednesday (December 6)!
Freshman The Freshman A team lost a nail biter at Addison Trail on Tuesday. Ellie Urbanski led the way with 15 points and snatching 6 boards. Nia Reed had two clutch 3 pointers to bring the game within 4 points in the last 2 minutes. The girls worked hard as a team to come back but lost 38-30. The Freshman B team lost in overtime 9-11. Jasmine Bonecki-Swire lead the team in rebounds, bringing in 7 rebounds while Jada Lunsford chipped in 6 points.
Thursday the girls suffered a tough loss at West Chicago. After being up 6-0 in the first quarter, the girls lost the lead and couldn’t seem to get it back throughout the game. They lost 28-10. Ellie Urbanski had a great all around effort having 4 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. The girls look to come back with a fight at home on Tuesday December 5th against Leyden.
Week of November 20
Varsity In the second week of play, the lady hornets split; with a loss against cross-town rival, Hinsdale Central and a win over Neuqua Valley in the final game of the Brenda Whitesell Invitational. This resulted in a 5th place finish overall in the tourney with a 2-2 record.
In the loss to Central, the hornets had a rough shooting night going only 25% from the floor. Ten hornets scored in the game as they were led by both Crystal Hardrick and Evelyn Edmond who each chipped in 8 points.
During the 47-45 victory over Neuqua Valley, it was great defense by Francesca Markos who shut down their leading scorer that made the difference. Other key factors were; Emily Koziol’s 20 points and 4 steals and Evelyn Edmonds’ 6points, 3 steals, 4 assists, and 3 blocks. Overall, the team played hard and fought until the buzzer over a tough opponent to end the tourney on a good note.
Sophomore The Lady Hornet Sophomore Team battled in two games this week, losing to Hinsdale Central on Tuesday and defeating Neuqua Valley on Saturday. In the game against Neuqua Valley, Ciniya McCray led the team with 29 points and 8 steals, Mary Lavorato followed with 10 points and 7 boards and Olivia Perez had 9 points and two huge free throws down the stretch. Abigail Didio, Elena Mazurek and Lejla Useini stood out with big rebounds and steals. Now 1-3, the Hornets look to continue their strong performance with two road games against Addison Trail on Tuesday (November 28) and West Chicago on Thursday (November 30)!
Freshman The Freshman girls basketball team fought 2 hard games to finish out the Thanksgiving Tournament 0-4. Despite the loses, the girls overall hustled hard. Madison Arflack was shy of a double double with 8 points and 8 rebounds. Tamya Goodlow has 3 great steals and 6 points while her sister Tamia chipped in 8 points. Jessica Flott played strong defense in the post and got some key rebounds. The team is looking forward to starting conference play next week, starting Tuesday Nov. 28 against Addison Trail.
Week of November 13
Varsity The lady Hornets started off their season playing two games that resulted in a loss against Sandburg and a win against Plainfield South. Alix Muckles had an amazing game scoring 12 points against Sandburg. Francesca Markos also had a good game scoring 9 points in the 4th quarter. The hornets earned their first win against Plainfield South. Everyone worked hard as a team and played good defense and offense. Emily Koziol scores 21 points coming alive in the second half. Post players, Evelyn Edmond and Jamilah Cooper both crashed the boards scoring six points and grabbing tough rebounds. The lady hornets hope to continue with another win on Tuesday over crosstown rival, Hinsdale Central.
Sophomore The Lady Hornet Sophomore Team battled in their first games of the season, but lost two games last week to Sandburg and Plainfield South. Ciniya McCray, Mary Lavorato and Olivia Perez led the way in scoring and while they played really good team defense, Elena Mazurek and Lejla Useini stood out with big rebounds and steals. Now 0-2, the Hornets look to bounce back with games against Hinsdale Central on Tuesday (November 21) and bracket play on Saturday!
Freshman The freshman team played tough in their first ever high school basketball games! The girls worked together on offense and played strong defensive but unfortunately ended up losing to both Sandburg and Plainfield South. Our captains Tamia and Tamara Goodlow led the team in points the first two games along with Nia Reed knocking down a couple of three-pointers! The girls are ready to continue working hard to get a few wins this week!
