Varsity The Hornets finished strong by defeating Addison Trail 42-14 to finish 4-2 in the west suburban gold division. We had a running clock at half time. Special teams pinned AT deep behind kicks by Jimmy Martin. The defense bent early but did not break with Dylan McMurray and Griff Carr leading the way. Robbie Spang had a career night passing, connecting multiple times to Sam Schuyler and Nathan Fundator. Many backups played the second half. We did not qualify for the playoffs but we have a .700 conference win percentage the last 12 years.
JV The JV Hornets defeated Addison Trail in their season finale, 48-24. The Hornets started off the scoring with 2 short touchdown runs by QB Matt Ballard and RB Mikey Jefferson, and then Andrew Miller ended an Addison Trail drive with a 64 yard interception return for a touchdown to put the Hornets up 21-0 in the first quarter. After an Addison Trail score, Apollo Cobb answered with a 60 yard touchdown run to put the Hornets up 28-6 at the end of the first. On the first play of the very next drive, Ballard threw a 53 yard touchdown pass to Daxton Michaels. Andrew Miller recovered another Addison fumble, and the Hornets added a 31 yard touchdown pass from Ballard to Michaels and a 5 yard touchdown run from Tashawn Wilson in a 48-24 win. The JV Hornets finish the year with a 5-4 record. The team should be extremely proud of themselves as they greatly improved from game 1 to game 9, and if they put in the work this offseason, will have many great varsity contributors next season!
Freshman The freshmen hornets had one stolen from them on Saturday morning as they lost to the trailblazers 14-10. The only touchdown for Hinsdale south that counted was a pick 6 by Morgan McDonald. The defense played well, also putting a safety on the board. Unfortunately, with about 4 seconds left on the clock Jackson Schuyler threw a go ahead touchdown to Chris Bolte that was wiped off the board due to an “inadvertent whistle”. The hornets failed on the final play to score and that’s how the game ended. Hinsdale South finished the conference at 4-2.
Week 8 vs. Proviso East
Varsity The Hornets defeated Proviso East in front of a homecoming crowd 49-8. The rain didn’t slow down our team that led the game 35-0 at the end of the first quarter. We had multiple scores by Nathan Fundator, Mike Jefferson, Anthony Montez. Matt Ballard scored on a run as well. Sam Schuyler had some big gains receiving and intercepted a ball as well. The defense gave the offense great field position all night with big plays coming from Dylan McMurray, Griffin Carr and many others. Our defensive backs, Denzel Davis, Sam Schuyler and Calvin Jenkins did especially well in coverage. Jimmy Martin kicked 7 PATs tying a school record. We conclude the season at Addison Trail on Thursday at 6:00pm
JV The JV Hornets defeated Proviso East at home on Monday, 21-6. In a game played with a running clock the whole game, the Hornets took it to the Pirates, only allowing a score on the last play of the game. LB Quinn Yurkovich had a pick six, leading the defense. QB Matt Ballard rushed for a touchdown and threw another to WR Daxton Michaels. The JV Hornets will take on Addison Trail in their season finale next Saturday!
Freshman A vs. Kankakee The freshmen hornets played Kankakee on Saturday morning as result of the Proviso East forfeit. In a great game, Hinsdale south came up a little short 22-20. The hornets scored on passes again from Schuyler to Bolte and Amaud Pike chipped in a late one as well. Hinsdale South, as a result of the forfeit, is now 4-4 and 4-1 in conference with Addison Trail as the closer next Saturday.
Freshman B vs. Oswego In a cold and blustery Monday evening the freshmen b hornets dropped a close one to Oswego hs 13-6. The defense played well, but the conditions didn’t do the offense any favors in this one, as the longest play from scrimmage was a corner route from Denzel James to Patel. The highlight for the hornets was a sack and fumble recovery for a TD by Corday Steele. The Hinsdale south b team finishes with a record of 1-1.
Week 7 vs. Willowbrook
Varsity The Hornets lost 21-14 at Willowbrook week 7. It was a defensive battle for both teams with Willowbrook edging out the win with a big trick play that scored. The Hornets were led by 2 way started Sam Schuyler. He ran for a score and had a key interception. Nathan Fundator caught a TD pass from Robbie Spang to put the Hornets within striking distance. Anthony Montez and Mikey Jefferson both ran hard all night. Defensively, Dylan McMurray had some big hits and led the team in tackles. Sam Morgan and Griffin Carr sacked the QB creating momentum. We take on Proviso East Friday for homecoming.
JV The JV Hornets fell to Willowbrook on Monday, 20-0. The Hornets struggled to get any offense going against a sound Willowbrook defense that forced a lot of Hornet turnovers. The Hornet defense was put in a lot of tough situations, and played a better game than the scoreboard showed. The JV Hornets will take on Proviso East next Monday following Homecoming week!
Freshman Unfortunately there wasn’t much to celebrate on Friday night as the freshmen hornets were defeated 46-6 at Willowbrook. The warriors jumped all over the hornets in this one as the lone score was a fourth quarter strike from Schuyler to Bolte. The hornets are 3-4 on the season and 3-1 in conference.
Freshman B vs. Naperville North The freshmen B hornets won an exciting game Monday night vs Naperville North HS 28-22 on a late touchdown bomb from Denzel James to Cordell Steele with only 10 sec left on the clock. James has a nice game overall throwing for a score and rushing for another. Meanwhile Chris Eiers punched one in from the one yard line as well and Morgan McDonald took a kick return to the house. The freshmen b team is 1-0.
Week 6 vs. Downers Grove South
Varsity HSHS lost to DGS 26-6 Friday. Turnovers were the key in a defensive battle. The Hornets turned the ball over 7 times. 4 fumbles lost and 3 interceptions. The defense played great all night scoring our only points on a DGS fumble in their end zone. Our goal of being playoff eligible starts this week at Willowbrook. A win puts us on a path to have a winning record and playoff eligibility. All our lower level were successful in beating DGS.
JV The JV Hornets defeated DGS 13-12 on Monday. The team started slowly, trailing DGS 6-0 at half. In the second half, the team came alive, starting scoring with a long touchdown pass from freshman QB Jackson Schuyler to TaShawn Wilson. After another DGS score, the Hornets later took the lead on an Apollo Cobb touchdown run and never looked back. The defense came up big with stops near the end of the game as the Hornets finished off the one point win. The JV Hornets will take on Willowbrook next Monday.
Freshman The freshmen hornets won a big one on Saturday morning vs their rivals the DGS mustangs 20-14. It was another hotly contested battle as the mustangs tied the game at 14 late in the contest. But the hornets calmly marched the ball 80 yards to use up the entire fourth quarter, which was capped by a Jackson Schuyler run and Chris Bolte TD, who scored multiple times in this one. Defensively, Ivan Jenkins had a nice interception early to set up the first score and Hames held the edge against the sweep very well all game. The hornets have now evened their record at 3-3, while going 3-0 in conference.
Week 5 vs. Morton
Varsity The Hornets remain undefeated in the WSC gold. Our goals are still in check by defeating Morton 27-17. We opened the game with a scoring drive that ultimately led the way to over 280 yard rushing. Our defense bent but came up with big plays when needed. Sam Schuyler had 3 interceptions with one returned for a TD to open the second half. He was a stud on both sides of the ball rushing for a 10 yard average. Robbie Spang kept passing plays alive with his legs picking up key first downs. Nathan Fundator scored 2 rushing touchdowns. Mikey Jefferson ran hard behind our offensive line scoring a TD and picking up tough yards to seal the victory. Defensively Dylan McMurray had some big hits and the rest of the team was instrumental in stopping a high quality Morton offense. Jimmy Martin aka Smitty was clutch kicking the ball on our kickoffs and point after attempts.
JV The JV Hornets fell 28-20 to Morton on Monday. Shorthanded, the Hornets trailed 21-7 at one point and battled back behind strong efforts by both the offense and defense. The Hornet defense was led by Apollo Cobb and Andrew Miller, and the offense was led by freshman QB Jackson Schuyler, who made numerous great plays in the pass game. The Hornets came up just short in the end, but hold their heads high going into DGS week!
Freshman The freshmen hornets won on Saturday in a wild game over the Morton Mustangs 38-26. The chemistry between Schuyler and Bolte continued in this one as the connected multiple times to move the chains and for three scores. Amaud Pike scored for the first time this year as well and Morgan McDonald came up big in the secondary with some key tackles. The hornets also forced multiple turnovers in this one. Hinsdale South is now 2-3 on the season, and 2-0 in conference.
Week 4 vs. Hinsdale Central
Varsity Hinsdale South traveled to Hinsdale Central on Friday to play for the Doings cup and our crosstown rival. The game was hard a battle of field position for most of the first half. The South offense was backed up to our endzone multiple times. The final score was 16-7 loss for South. We missed a filed goal and had difficulty running the ball. The passing game was our offensive strength led by QB Robbie Spang throwing to WR’s Matt Rudolph, Sam Schuyler and Mikey Jefferson. Span also ran in a touchdown to put the Hornets on the board. The defense battled all night holding Central in check for most of the night. They were led by Griffin Carr and Dylan McMurray. We travel to Morton Friday to continue our goals of a wsc gold championship.
JV The JV Hornets lost to Hinsdale Central 32-0 on Monday. The offense struggled to get much going against a stout Red Devil defense. The Hornets showed some fight but were ultimately overmatched. The JV Hornets will look to bounce back next week on the road at Morton!
Freshman The freshmen hornets got beat pretty good on Saturday by a score of 34-0. A couple nice throws from Schuyler to Bolte early kept it close for the first quarter, but ultimately the Red Devils were too much for this developing hornet team. Up next is Morton next Saturday. The hornets are now 1-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference.
Week 3 vs. Leyden
Varsity The varsity football team defeated Leyden 42-14 to secure our first conference game. (1-0) Many touchdowns were scored on our way to a running clock after the opening possession of the second half. Anthony Montez scored 3 Rushing TD,s with Robbie Spang, Sam Schuyler and Calvin Jenkins also crossing the goal line for Scores. Our top WR was Matt Rudolf who caught a deep pass from Robbie Spang to start out the second half. Our defense bent a little at times when Leyden went 5 wides but they were not able to run the football much at all due to great pursuit and a blocked punt by Griffin Carr. They scored late in the game when the running clock was on.
JV The JV Hornets defeated Leyden 34-8 on Monday. The defense was stellar once again, forcing 5 Leyden turnovers and setting up the offense with great field position. Quinn Yurkovich forced 2 fumbles, Reese Berg had 2 interceptions, and Tashawn Wilson had another pick. On offense, Matt Ballard had a great game at quarterback, throwing 2 touchdowns to Apollo Cobb, and running in 2 touchdowns of his own. Wilson also ran in another touchdown. The Hornets will take on Hinsdale Central next week.
Freshman The freshmen hornets won a barnburner on Saturday morning 24-20 over the Leyden Eagles. The eagles struck first in the game before the hornets answered on a TD from Schuyler to Bolte to take the lead 8-6. The eagles then ate up the entire third quarter with a nice drive the take the lead before scoring again and going up 20-8. But Hinsdale south didn’t crack and responded with two scores in the fourth quarter behind some great throws by Schuyler in the two min drill and key plays by Bolte and Linson to finally reclaim the lead 24-20 with 27 sec left in the game. An interception sealed in and the hornets got their first win of the season. They are now 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference.
Week 2 vs. OPRF
Varsity We knew our wsc silver crossover would be a challenge but our player leadership was the bright spot of the night. We opened the game with a big hit by Mike Jefferson forcing a fumble but they recovered. They scored on their first drive and we threw an interception deep in our own territory giving them great field position on their second possession. Our offense scored on its second drive. Robbie Spang completed a deep pass to Matt Rudolph. Anthony Montez carried the ball another 2 times to score a touchdown. After that we started to get worn down by the large 8 a school. Many backups played and the crowd was great. We ended up losing the game 42-7. We open our gold conference play at home this Friday vs Leyden.
JV The JV Hornets defeated OPRF Monday morning by a score of 27-6. The Hornet defense held strong the entire game, holding OPRF scoreless until the final two minutes of the game. Tashawn Wilson returned an interception for a touchdown, and Michael Lofton added another interception. Offensively, the Hornet ground game was firing on all cylinders, as Deshawn Wilson had touchdown runs of 67 and 19 yards, and Amari Alexander added a touchdown run of 32 yards. The JV Hornets will take on Leyden next Monday.
Freshman The freshmen hornets took it on the chin Saturday morning 56-6 vs OPRF. Hinsdale south showed its youth and inexperience, turning the ball over several times in the contest. Some bright spots were a long TD completion from Schuyler to Bolte, a connection that will continue to get better, and some very tough running by Maximus Abril. The hornets are 0-2 on this young season.
Week 1 vs. Deerfield
Varsity The Hornets out gained the warriors of Deerfield on offense with 320 yards of offense to 132 but lost 12-15 in a hard fought physical game. Ultimately, the Hornets lost the game with a Deerfield passing score late in the 4th quarter. The key to victory escaped us due to 5 turnovers on key drives. Anthony Montez and Nathan Fundator scored touchdowns and the defense led by Dylan McMurray held a potent Deerfield offense to minimal gains most of the night. Special teams played an important role with Matt Rudolph leading the way but field position favored Deerfield with key returns. Sam Schuyler was an impact player on both side of the ball barely coming of the field. Week 1 creates the greatest learning and our team leadership and resolve proved that we are on the right path to achieve all of our goals. JV The JV Hornets played a hard fought game against Deerfield Saturday morning, but fell just short, losing 26-20. The defense made some huge plays including an interception by Karam Tajeddin. Quarterback Matt Ballard led the offense, throwing 2 touchdowns to Matt Jaffrey, and rushing for another. The JV Hornets will take on OPRF next Monday.
Freshman The Hinsdale south freshmen lost to the Deerfield sophomore team 36-6 on Friday night. After taking an early lead 6-0 on a go route from Jackson Schuyler to Chris Bolte, and holding it through half time, Deerfield tied the game 6-6 in the third quarter. After that, the hornet inexperience showed as turnovers led to Deerfield scoring 30 unanswered later in the third and fourth. The hornets are now 0-1 in this young season.
