Varsity The Hornets lost 21-12 vs Hinsdale Central. It was a tight game that was played with class. Marquese Garrett connected with Ronnie Burrage multiple times in the pass game and Devin Smith ran well all night. Defensively we bent at times but limited Central's scoring opportunities. The defense was led by Milan Kaplarevic, Jeremiah Kinsey and Terrill McCray. Playing an 8a playoff team week 9 will prepare us for our 6a playoff run. We travel to Prairie Ridge Crystal Lake for round 1 of the IHSA playoffs sat at 1 pm.
Sophomore
Freshman The HSHS freshmen football team lost 55-0 to Hinsdale central to finish to season at 3-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference. This young and relatively inexperienced hornet team put up a lot of points overall this year and grew tremendously throughout the season. They will continue to get better as they gain more experience with age.
Week 8 vs. Leyden
Varsity The Hornets clinched a playoff birth by defeating Leyden 20-14. This is the second year in a row and 4 of the last 5 years for Hinsdale South to be 1 of 32 teams to be honored with being selected to the IHSA tournament. Leyden controlled the clock and ran the ball effectively in the first half but ultimately the defense stopped them on a critical 4th down play to secure the victory. The defense was led by standout efforts by Milan Kaplarecic, Terrill McCray, and Evan Zenger. On offense we had huge plays make the difference. Devin Smith, Marquese Garrett, Eddy Hyland and Terrill McCray all had standout efforts. We travel to Hinsdale Central to conclude regular season play Friday.
Sophomore The sophomore hornets finish conference play undefeated with a conference record of 4-0-2. The last conference win coming against the Leyden eagles. South’s offense was a well oiled machine led by RB Jesse Villegas and WR Luke Terrel who accumulated two TDs a piece. Defensively, the hornets dominated the eagles with the exception of two plays that resulted in long TDs for Leyden. End score 28-12
Freshman The freshmen hornets lost 34-13 on Saturday to Leyden. Jaylen Steele scored twice on the day but ultimately the hornets turned the ball over too many times. With a record of 3-5, Hinsdale Central is up next on Thursday night.
Week 7 vs. Addison Trail
Varsity The football game vs Addison Trail was moved to 5 pm on Friday to adjust for inclement weather. We earned our 5th win by beating AT 35-28. This week we host Leyden for our senior night.
Sophomore Addison Trail: The hornets force their second tie of the year against the blazers on the road. After letting up 6 points in the first half, the hornets match the blazers score from a long toss and catch from Deontae Dixon to Luke Terrell. The hornets were able to seal the tie by picking off the blazers in the end zone on a potential game winning drive.
Freshman The freshmen hornets won big vs Addison Trail on Tuesday 47-20. In a game that featured a lot of mud on a grass field, the hornet offense was still firing on all cylinders behind strong runs by Steele, Whittaker, Mothershed, and Hunter. Albert, Crotty, and Casey also scored reception TDS as Kholsaat threw for multiple scores yet again.
Week 6 vs. Proviso East
Varsity Hinsdale South defeated Proviso East 37-15 on homecoming. We moved to 4-2 and had many guys not playing due to injury but in true team fashion guys stepped up. Proviso East opened the scoring but then the Hornets took control and put in subs for most of the second half. We continue to grow as team 53 and play at Addison Trail Friday.
Sophomore Proviso East: South defeated the pirates on homecoming by a score of 19-6. Lucas Kozak snagged two touchdowns from Deontae Dixon while Jesse Villegas added a score from the ground.
Freshman The hornets won their second game of the season vs Proviso East on Saturday 31-0. Blake Albert handled the QB duties in the first half as the hornets jumped out to a big lead early. Mike Urbanski, Henri Narmontas, and Logan Bryant all scored and the defense forced 2 safeties. Hinsdale South is now 2-4 on the season.
Week 5 vs. Willowbrook
Varsity The Hornets started slow against Willowbrook eventually losing 20-10. We had multiple opportunities to score in the second half but came up short with a field goal and a pass the was bobbled and eventually intercepted at the 3. The players learned a valuable lesson coming out of this game and we look to take what we learned and continue our winning ways against Proviso East this week for homecoming.
Sophomore Willowbrook: Sophmore hornets survive a defensive dominated game against the warriors. No points were scored but the 0-0 tie was a tale of two outstanding bend but don’t break philosophies. Freshman The hornets lost 47-21 on Saturday morning. Once again, while the defense had a rough day, some strong plays by Jaylen Steele, Henri Narmontas, and Blake Albert resulted in three scores both rushing and receiving. This game was in doubt all the way into the fourth quarter with a score of 27-21 before Willowbrook pulled away. A homecoming game vs Proviso East is up for homecoming next week.
Week 4 vs. Downers Grove South
Varsity The Hornets defeated the mustangs of downers grove south for the 4th time in 5 years to retain the Rebel Cannon. The score was 40-17 and Hinsdale South did not have to punt. Marquese Garrett and Devin Smith amassed a relentless ground attack behind a dominant offensive line. Defensively we bent but did not break. Eddy Hyland set a record by intercepting a pass and returning it 101 yards for a touchdown.
Sophomore The sophomore hornets won an old school classic matchup against their rivals the mustangs. After letting up 8 points in the first quarter, South’s defense shutdown the mustang offense. Jacob jones caught an interception in the 2nd quarter to emphasize the defense’s dominance. After no scores in almost 4 quarters, the hornet’s offense caught fire with 2min left in the game. Scoring two back to back TDs with seconds to spare, the hornets won by a count of 12-8
Freshman The freshmen hornets lost a close one 32-22. Behind some tough running by Jaylen Steele, and some key completions from Kholsaat to Albert, Hinsdale South was able to move the ball well but ultimately could not hold the mustangs down the stretch. Another conference matchup with willow brook is up next Saturday.
Week 3 vs. Morton
Varsity The Hornets defeated Morton to open wsc gold play 30-3. The defense once again played well with standout efforts by Jeremiah Kinsey, Milan Kaplarevic and Kevon Miller. Offensive standouts included Terrill McCray, Devin Smith and Marquese Garrett. We play dgs this week at home for the rebel canon.
Sophomore The sophomore football team won by a score of 33-6 behind three touchdowns thrown by Donnie Loudermilk. Two of which were caught by Luke Terrell and one by Lucas Kozak. Jesse Villegas also scored a couple TDs. Meanwhile the sophomore defense pitched a shout-out, not allowing any offensive scores from Morton.
Freshman The freshmen hornets got their first win of the season Saturday vs the Morton HS mustangs. Behind some strong running by Jaylen Steele and some nifty TD grabs from Ryan Kholsaat to Blake Albert and Mike Urbanski, the hornet offense put up three scores. Henri Narmontas contributed a defensive score on a 95 yd interception return. The rival game with DGS is up next.
Week 2 vs. Lyons Township
Varsity Hinsdale South defeated Lyons township 27-7 Friday. This was a huge win for the gold division over a quality silver opponent. After a lightning delay in the second quarter, Michael Colant faked a punt and passed to Kamron Lipscomb to gain a first down and momentum. Marquese Garrett led the team in rushing along with Devin Smith. The offensive line grew up and dominated. The defense had another stellar performance in the victory. Milan Kaplarevic had a key interception and there were multiple standout efforts. We travel to Morton this Friday to open WSC Gold play.
Sophomore The Hinsdale south hornets sophomore team falls to 1-1 in the season following a lost to LT. The hornets fought a tough battle on both sides of the ball. Lucas Kozak and Donnie Loudermilk connected twice for red zone TD. Those were the hornets only points and it didn’t prove to be enough. Final score 43-13.
Freshman The HSHS freshmen lost 62-0 on Monday morning, a result of Saturday's rainout. Nothing much went well for the hornets notwithstanding some strong runs by Jaylen Steele, and nice reception yards by Blake Albert. Morton is up next for the hornets.
Week 1 vs. Kaneland
Varsity The Hornets lost their opener to Kaneland Friday night 0-6. The defense bent but didn’t break only letting up 2 field goals. Offensively we had 4 turnovers that killed multiple scoring drives. This was the first time since 2013 the Hornets have been shut out. Penalties also hampered our efforts. Our young guys grew up and our team will learn from the loss.
Sophomore Sophomore football hornets start the season off 1-0 with a tight win. QB keeper by Donnie Loudermilk put South on the board with 6, followed by a successful 2 point conversion. The winning score was a jump ball catch by Lucas kozak followed by a two point conversion to seal the deal.
Freshman The freshmen hornet football team dropped the home opener 50-28 on Saturday. Quite simply, except for a pick 6 by Garrett Bolte in the first half, the defense struggled in this one. The hornet offense was quit effective however behind some stout running by Jaylen Steele and a long reception from Ryan Kholsaat to Blake Albert. LT is up next Saturday for the hornets.
