Varsity The Hornets defeated Morton 35-18. Destin Talbert returned from injury to score 3 Td’s and lead the offense. Defensively we had many guys play to finish out the season at 4-5. Hinsdale South finished in 2nd place within the WSC Gold division. We look forward to a productive offseason.
Sophomore The Hornet sophomore football team ended their 2016 season on a very high note Friday night against Morton High School. The team won 30-0, playing very well in all aspects of the game. The offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage throughout the game, opening up the running game for talented ball carriers. On defense, the Hornets played an aggressive game from start to finish. A number of 4th down stands to stop scoring drives and an interception returned for a touchdown highlighted the defensive performance. The sophomore football team would like to thank all parents and Hornet fans for their great support this season!
Freshman The hornet freshmen ended their season with a win Thursday night 15-14 over Morton. Both quarterbacks, Michael Colant and Jason Williams scored in a thriller that was decided by PATs. The hornets finish 2-7 on the season with a conference record of 2-4.
Week 8 vs. Hinsdale Central
Varsity The hornets lost to central 28-14 on Friday. Dj Anderson had and interception returned for a TD and running back Shawn Wimberly added the rest of the points on the ground. Deontae Curry played amazing at linebacker all night. We conclude our season at Morton on Friday.
JV The JV team finished their season with a 14-0 loss on Saturday. The Hornets offense was led by Freshman QB Greg Turner and Sam LaPlante. Defensively the Hornets had a shutout 2nd half being led by Paris Lewis at linebacker and AJ Jones at safety picking off 2 interceptions. Sophomore The sophomore football team played well even in a loss on Friday night against Hinsdale Central by a score of 27-0. For the majority of the game the offense moved the ball consistently, but a few costly mistakes kept them out of the end zone. Defensively, the Hornet’s physical play forced a turnover and a couple 4th down stops. The sophomore team will move forward to their final contest of the season next Friday night at Morton. Kickoff will be at 5:00pm. Freshman Hornets lost at Hinsdale Central 56-0. The Hinsdale South freshmen played tough but were simply overwhelmed by the great red menace. Up next is Morton High School where the hornets will attempt their second win I the season.
Week 7 vs. Leyden
Varsity We played our hearts out Friday vs Leyden. The final overtime score was 26-20. For most of the game it was a defensive battle but some big offensive plays were made by Brian Rudolph, Justin Kolzow, Colton Kotecki and Karl Lipszko. Defensively Julian Kinsey had a good night with a host of other defensive players. We travel to HC this Friday. JV
Sophomore The Sophomore Hornet football team lost a hard-fought game on Friday night against Leyden. The Hornets played consistent offense and very tough defense throughout the game, but struggled with turnovers at critical moments. The offense establish a strong running game, with Marquese Garrett piling up rushing yards and scoring both of the team’s touchdowns on the ground. The defense forced two huge turnovers and held strong on two 4th down stands. Next week the Hornets will travel across town to face Hinsdale Central at 5:00pm!
Freshman The hornets lost on Saturday 24-12. After taking an early lead, the two teams went in tied at halftime 12-12. Turnovers cost Hinsdale South down the stretch however and Leyden won the game by taking advantage of these. Next is a meeting with district rival Hinsdale Central.
Week 6 vs. Addison Trail
Varsity The hornets defeated Addison trail 38-13 on Friday in front of their homecoming crowd. The score was 21-0 at half. The offense was lead by touchdowns from Brian Rudolph (one-yard run), Colton Kotecki (36-yard pass from Justin Kolzow) and Kotecki again (52 yards from Rudolph). Justin Kolzow completed a 77-yard score to Karol Lipizko in the fourth quarter and Jacob Brocato added a 28-yard field goal for a 31-7 lead before Paris Lewis finished the scoring with a five-yard run. Shawn Wimberly also added 62 yards rushing. The defense held the AT offense all nigh with DJ Anderson coming up with a big interception. The defensive player of the game was Jack Bortman. This week the hornets play Leyden. The winner will be in the drivers seat for a conference title. Sophomore The sophomore football team earned their first victory of the season Friday night with a dramatic 22-20 win on the road against Addison Trail! The offense started fast with a long first drive capped off by a Greg Turner to Terrill McCray touchdown pass. Marquese Garrett scored two rushing touchdowns, as well as running in a pair of two-point conversions, which proved to be the difference in the game. The defensive unit played a tremendous game, coming up with a number of huge 4th down stops to protect a Hornet lead, making especially big plays late in the second half to seal the win. The Hornets will take on Leyden next Friday night at 5:00 pm in the last home game of the season!
Freshman The hornets endured a virtual monsoon on Saturday to defeat the Addison Trail blazers 20-9, spoiling their homecoming. Three different hornets scored: Ahmad Thompson, Quentin Fields, and Aman Tezeno. The South defense came up big in this one, forcing a couple of turnovers in the process. The hornets are now 1-5 on the season.
Week 5 vs. Proviso East
Varsity The Hornets defeated Proviso East Friday in front of a large homecoming crowd. The final score of 35-6 was the same at half. The scoring came early and often. The scoring was led by Destin Talbert and Brian Rudolph. Justin Kolzow also took part by completing a long pass to Colton Kotecki. The defense came up big with multiple stops to force good field position. Many hornets were able to see the field and we look forward to heading to AT this week.
Sophomore The sophomore Hornet football team suffered another difficult loss on Friday evening to visiting Proviso East. The Hornets started fast, driving the field to score an early rushing touchdown. Then, still in the first quarter, the defense intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown, which gave the Hornets a 16-6 lead. The Hornets went into halftime trailing by four, and were unable to produce any more points until very late in the fourth quarter. Next week, the Hornets will travel to take on Addison Trail on Friday night at 5pm.
Freshman The hornets lost in a shootout Saturday to Proviso East 30-22. It was a close game throughout with scores by several different hornets including Noah Charters for a 30 yd strike near the end of the game to give Hinsdale south a chance with under 2 min left in the clock. Proviso covered the onside kick however to hold on. Addison Trail is up next for the hornets.
Week 4 vs. Willowbrook
Varsity The Hornet defeated Willowbrook 30-27 Friday at Willowbrook High School. It was a great team effort and our guys made some huge plays. DJ Anderson had a pair of touchdowns. One was an interception return and the other came off of a blocked field goal. We are currently in the mix for a conference title because AT beat DGS. The conference is wide open and we control our own destiny. JV The Hornets lost a close battle to Willowbrook this past Saturday on the JV level. Leading the way offensively were Tyvell White carrying the ball and CJ Jackson and Sam LaPlante on the receiving end. The Hornets have next week off on the JV level before returning against Addison Trail in 2 weeks
Sophomore The Hornet sophomore football team played Willowbrook on Friday evening. Despite a great effort by the whole team, the Hornets remain winless with a 6-20 loss. On the offensive side of the ball, the Hornets struggled to for most of the game to sustain drives against a very tough Willowbrook defense. On the other side of the ball, the defense played their most aggressive game so far this season. The Hornet run defense was especially stout, not allowing a single rushing touchdown and holding Willowbrook scoreless in the second half. Special teams were a huge part of Friday’s game for the Hornets as they blocked two opponent punts, returning one of them for the team’s only touchdown, and also converted their own fake punt to continue an offensive possession. Next Friday night the sophomore team will host Proviso East at 5:00pm.
Freshman The Hornets lost 42-14 against Willowbrook this Saturday. After starting quickly and taking the lead 14-12, the hornets struggled in the second half with turnovers. The scores on the day were by Michael Colant and Aman Tezeno. Jason Williams also had a circus style one handed grab. Proviso East is up next for the hornet homecoming game.
Week 3 vs. Downers Grove South
Varsity The Hornets fell to DGS 37-24 in a back and forth battle. The Hornets had many opportunities to make plays but came up a little short and lost the canon for the first time in 3 years. It has been a tough start to the year but we have been our own worst enemy. We will continue to grow and get back on track against Willowbrook.
JV Congrats to our JV team on their 20-14 victory over DGS to start the conference season 1-0. This was a total team effort with the defense being led by Carmelo Lazzera, Jalen Lunsford, and Ryan Bergstrom coming up with big plays to help ignite the team. Leading the way offensively was Colton Kotecky at QB with his arm and legs. Big receptions were from Sam LaPlante and CJ Jackson. The Hornets look for their second conference win this Saturday against the Warriors of Willowbrook.
Sophomore The Hornet sophomore football team lost another close game on Friday against rival Downers Grove South. The offense showed some great improvement, however, especially in the passing game. All four of the Hornet’s touchdowns came through the air, with three of them being explosive, long yardage plays! The running game also came on strong, carrying the offense late in the game. On the defensive side of the ball, the Hornets forced and recovered two fumbles, both of which resulted in touchdown scoring drives. Moving forward, the Hornets are excited to improve some fundamental aspects of their game. Next week the Hornets will go on the road to Willowbrook, kicking off at 5:00pm on Friday!
Freshman The Hornets dropped a heartbreaker to DGS 19-14 on Saturday. After trailing 13-0 in the first half, HSHS came screaming back to take the lead 14-13 on two long TD passes from Michael Colant to Aman Tezeno and Jason Williams. Unfortunately the defense couldn't hold and the Mustangs scored their last TD late to take the win. Willowbrook is up next for the hornets.
Week 2 vs. Glenbard West
Varsity The Hornets fell just a little short Friday vs defending state champion Glenbard West. Our young men battled to the very end and as a result earned the respect they deserve. The defense came up big all night long especially when DJ Anderson had a 95 yard fumble return for a touchdown late in the 4th quarter. The Hornet offense was led by the 83 receiving yards of Destin Talbert. Quarterback Brian Rudolph threw for 111 yards, completing 9 of 18 pass attempts. This week we play DGS for the Canon. We will be honoring the memory of September 11th 2001 and “ The GI Go Fund” during the game while partnering with the Wounded Warrior Foundation. Come out and wear Red, White and Blue.
JV Our JV team lost their first game of the season to Glenbard West to even out their record at 1-1. Earning player of the game honors on offense was Sam LaPlante and leading the defense was David Nkansah. The Hornets look forward to their first conference game of the year when they match up with the Mustangs of Downers Grove this Saturday at 11.
Sophomore On Friday night the sophomore football team lost to Glenbard West. The team struggle on defense for most of the game, but continued to give great effort. In the second half of the game, the defense allowed only 6 points and made a number of aggressive plays. The offense struggled to score, but moved the football consistently throughout the game. Marquese Garret, Terrill McCray III and Greg Turner all found success running the football, but, as an offense, we were unable to create points. Moving forward to next week, the sophomore team is excited to start to start conference play! We will play Downers Grove South at home on Friday at 5:00pm.
Freshman The hornet freshmen lost a tough one on Saturday, getting thrashed by Glenbard West 52-8. HSHS moved the ball up and down the field several times, scoring once on a nice play fake Michael Colant to Aman Tezeno. However, the defense had a tough time with the GW rushing attack. DGS is up next for the hornets.
Week 1 vs Prospect
Varsity The varsity football team fell to Prospect 16-20 Friday night. They returned 18 starters while the hornets had 17 new starters. The game opened in favor of the hornets with Shawn Wimberly scoring a TD on a long run. We battled back and forth but only had 37 offensive plays because they were able to grind the clock. We usually have close to double the offensive chances. There were many rookie mistakes in the special teams but our goals and direction are unchanged. Our young men will learn from the experience and continue to develop.
JV vs. Morton Congrats to our JV Football team in winning the opening game of the season 20-0 over Morton. Leading the charge offensively were Michael Early(TD pass) and Sam LaPlante((TD pass). Throwing 2 TD passes was Joe Mazzei. The ground game was strong behind the running of Tyvell White. Defensively the shutout was possible from strong interior play of Sam Farina, pass breakups by Seth Terrell , and an overall swarming defensive unit. Next week the Hornets will play non-conference Glenbard West.
Sophomore The sophomore football team lost a hard-fought game against Prospect on Friday night. The offense started off well and moved the ball consistently throughout the game. Freshman running back Marquese Garrett scored 3 rushing touchdowns and wide receiver Ryan Carli pulled down a long touchdown pass from Greg Turner III. The defense forced 2 turnovers and came up with a few big 4th down stands, but struggled to establish themselves early in the game. The team looks forward to improving in all phases of the game with a great week of practice! We will take on Glenbard West this Friday night at 5:00pm in our home opener!
Freshman The freshmen hornets lost a tight one on saturday vs prospect. Coming back from a 12-0 deficit at half the hornets tied the game at 12-12 in the third quarter. After Prospect went up 19-12 in the fourth, HSHS received the ball with 1:30 left on the clock but their drive stalled out at mid field. Glenbard West is up next .
