Junior Varsity: Junior Varsity consisted of 10 girls that loved being cheerleaders and were always excited to try new things. These girls never failed to make us smile and laugh every single day. Their determination to try new skills was something we have never seen before. What was even more special about this team was that none of them had ever competed at an IHSA Cheerleading Competition. The girls got their routine early December and worked so hard to perform for the first time January 6th, 2019. Going into their first competition at Buffalo Grove High School, Coach V and Coach Y knew that the girls were going up against 12 other teams but knew the girls excitement would make them stand out! The girls took home their first trophy ever, 7th Place, so much excitement and such an awesome day for us all. The next weekend competition we hosted for the first time ever was conference. The girls had some last minute changes due to illnesses and still did not give up. The girls went out there and rocked their routine, hitting all their stunts and landing their tumbling! They took 6th place at conference 2019. The last competition was at Huntley High School, the 2nd biggest competition in state where the girls once again had last minute changes but performed like rock stars they are and took home 18th place.
Varsity: These 12 girls worked so hard this season and their skills truly improved. Many of the girls were new to the cheer world but were athletic and had their own skills that they brought to the team. These girls were not afraid of a challenge, with constantly changing stunt groups, formations, injuries, and trying new positions they really worked hard this season. With both coaches being alumni we really wanted to restructure the program to hopefully benefit the girls. With that being said, conditioning happened a lot; the girls hated doing it but saw the benefits when on the competition floor. Kick swings, pigeon pose, and 1-2 snaps seemed endless but our jump executive score grew from .5 to 1.2! Our first competition at Buffalo Grove was a challenge with girls out for injuries but the girls hit their stunts and took 20th out of 30. The next week we were hosting the girls had a solid week of practice in. For the first time ever, they hit their FULL-UPS and nailed their routine. They took home 7th even going against all the coed teams. The next weekend was Huntley, 13th place was received out of 25. Then there was sectionals, hosted at Lemont, top five moved onto IHSA state out of 17, HSHS took 10th. It was a sad day but the girls were so proud of what they accomplished. Overall, the season was a great success and with only losing one senior next year, the girls are ready to work together again. We are excited to see what 2019-2020 season has in store!
Overall Season: We truly could not have asked for a better first season as coaches and alumni of the Hinsdale South Cheerleading program. The girls have worked so hard this year and pushed themselves harder than they all have before. They have challenged themselves and kept pushing even when things got tough and they saw the benefits. They are strong young team that has so much potential. We have seen them accomplish so much this season and we cannot wait to see what the future holds. Their skills are only continuing to grow and the future is BRIGHT for HSHS Cheer, GO HORNETS!!!
