Congratulations to Amari Alexander! After a great Indoor season that saw him winning the indoor conference championship in the 55 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and 4X200 meter relay, and setting the school record in the 55 meter dash, Amari capped a great season by placing 1st at the Illinois Prep Top Times Championship in Normal, Illinois. The Top Times meet is considered the unofficial indoor state meet in Illinois and his 60 meter dash time of 6.94 left his competition of elite Illinois high school sprinters in the dust!
Week of March 11th
The Hornets participated in the Indoor Conference Meet at Proviso West High School on Thursday night, placing 4th on both levels. There were many amazing performances and personal bests! Sophomore Wojtek Gilarski was the star of the distance squad, placing 4th in the varsity 3200 with an amazing time of 9:53, and coming back and placing 5th in the 1600 in 4:45. Dziugas Meiliulis helped the 4X800 relay team to 4th and placed 6th in the 1600. Ethan Frankel placed in 3 events: the 4X800 and 4X400 relays, and the 600 meter run, with 2 personal bests.
At the fresh/soph level, Noah Koehler placed in the 4X800, the 600, and the 4X400 as well, also with 2 p.r.s. The start of the throwing squad was Alex Galvez, placing 3rd in the fresh/soph shot put. The sprint/jumps crew was the most dominant part of the squad, as they have been all year. At the fresh/soph level, Brent Tolentino won the high jump, and placed 2nd to teammate Nathan Ngoma in the 55 meter dash and long jump. Ngoma also ran a 57 second anchor leg in the 4X400 relay.
On the varsity level, Karam Tajeddin finished 2nd in the triple jump and placed in the 55meter low and high hurdles. Teammate Erick Larson placed 2nd in the 55 meter high hurdles. Erik and Karam teamed up with Amari Alexander and Langston Love to win the 4X200 meter relay in convincing fashion. Finally, our star of the meet was junior Amari Alexander, who won the 55 meter dash in a school record 6.52 seconds, a time good enough to qualify him to run in Saturday's Illinois Top Times meet at Illinois Wesleyan University, and won the 200 meter dash as well. Top 2 varsity in each event are named All-Conference. Go Hornets!
