Saturday, March 26 We competed at Illinois Top Times Meet at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington. For those who don't know, the Top Times is a long running meet that is considered the "unofficial state meet" for the indoor season, since the IHSA does not recognize indoor track as an entity separate to outdoor track and, therefore, holds no post season competition for it. Only a limited number of athletes are chosen, strictly based on their qualifying times or marks during the indoor season. We were fortunate enough to qualify athletes in 7 individual events and 2 relays, most of which were able to compete yesterday. Highlights included Brian Jordan placing 3rd in the 800 in 1:58.55, just 6 tenths of a second off the 36 year old school record, Charlie Nodus placing 6th in the 1600 in a time of 4:22.82, breaking Eddie Slowikowski's 31 year old school record, Mike Noble breaking (or at least tying) the 9 year old school record in the 400 meters in a time of 51.19 seconds, and the 4X400 meter relay team of Mike Noble, Diamond Anderson, Tre Von Geary, and Brian Jordan placing 7th in a time of 3:31, the 2nd fastest time in indoor school history, behind only our 3:29 set with 2 different runners earlier in the month. Shawn Davis (triple jump and high hurdles) and Brett Haffner also competed well to close their indoor season.
What a start to the season! Indoors, we won Varsity and Freshman Conference, and set school records in the 400 meters, 1600 meters, 3200 meters, 4X400 relay, 55 meter high hurdles, and 4X160 relay. And the improvement and competitiveness among all team members, whether they are breaking records and competing at Conference or not, has been awesome! I speak for Coach Norman (and Jackson) when I guess that this might be the best, most well-rounded track team we've had in a very long time (ever?). But "real track," as it is often called, is just starting and I'm eager to see the momentum keep going through outdoor season. Have a great break!!
