Varsity The team took on Benet in a regional semifinal on Tuesday night. The team defended well throughout most of the first half holding off a strong Benet attack. Brody Hallman and Justas Gadisauskas limited the number of good chances that Benet could create. Ben Bartninkas played really well in midfield and did not give the opponents much space. Aiden LaPat played one of his best games of the season in goal and made some incredible saves throughout the game. Jimmy Martin helped create a few chances for us. Ultimately, we lost 4-0, but are proud of the way that the team battled throughout the entire game.
Week of October 9th
Varsity The team played Proviso East on Tuesday and also honored our seniors during Senior Night. We want to thank our three seniors: Jaoquin Amaro, Zain Haq, and Davin Olsen for their commitment to the soccer program over the past four years. The game itself was back and forth with many different lead changes throughout. We took the lead a few minutes into the game from a goal by Jimmy Martin. After being tied 1-1, Jaoquin Amaro played a great ball into Jimmy who scored again to give us a 2-1 lead. The team went into halftime trailing 3-2. We started the second half strong again with Jimmy scoring his third goal of the game to even the score at 3-3. Davin Olsen scored on a corner kick from Ethan Ebreo to give us a 4-3 lead. Jimmy added to the lead and scored his fourth goal of the game on a shot from the top of the box through traffic. Aiden LaPat made some great saves during the game including saving two penalty kicks from Proviso East. We made some defensive mistakes towards the end of the game including playing a man down which resulted in a 6-5 defeat.
Week of October 2nd
Varsity The varsity team started the week with a home game against Downers Grove South. We got off to a quick start when Jimmy Martin beat DGS down the end line and cut the ball back into the box. Jake Lu was able to find his way onto the ball, beat a defender and put the ball into the back of the net to give us a 1-0 lead 5 minutes into the game. DGS was able to level the game a few minutes later. The team responded within the next two minutes after Richie Pikula stole the ball, played a give and go with Jimmy, and placed a one touch finish off the post and in to give us a 2-1 lead. The team went into halftime tied 2-2. DGS was able to score early in the second half to take the lead. Jimmy, Jake, and Diego Canas created many chances throughout the second half, unfortunately, we weren’t able to convert and fell to 3-2.
The team traveled the next night to Addison Trail to take on the Blazers. We got off to a slow start and found ourselves down 2-0 within the first few minutes of the game. We settled in after that and created a few chances. Jimmy Martin was able to cut the lead to 2-1 following a through ball from Jake Lu. Aiden LaPat made some excellent saves throughout the first half to keep the game close and we went into halftime trailing 3-1. The team battled through injuries throughout the second half and struggled to keep up with AT and the game ended in a 8-1 loss.
The team ended the week facing Timothy Christain in front of a packed house for their Homecoming game. We started off strong and maintained possession throughout the first 20 minutes of the game and were evenly matched with Timothy Christain. An own goal found us behind 1-0 and a few other mistakes saw the lead quickly move to 4-0 at halftime. The team created chances through Jimmy Martin, Jake Lu, and Alex Damis during the first half, but we were unable to convert. The team locked back in during the second half and played much better. We continued to create chances and Alan Cushing almost scored his first goal of the season. The game ended in a 5-0 loss. The team ends its regular season next week with Senior Night on Tuesday against Proviso East.
Freshman 10/2- To start their week the Hornets travelled to Addison Trail. The first 15 minutes of the game were dominated by the Hornets winning every ball in the midfield and connecting passes. Their excellent play would lead to them taking a 1-0 lead as Damian Lopez buried his shot over the Addison Trail goalkeeper. From that point on the Hornets battled hard but in the end, the one goal wasn't enough as Addison Trail would win 6-1
10/3- The next day was a rematch for the Hornets from their first game of the season when they took on Hinsdale Central. The Hornets for the second game in a row were able to strike first. Kade Uddin played a ball down the line to Damian Lopez who did the rest. He cut back on his right foot and finished far post giving the Hornets a 1-0 lead. Right before halftime, Hinsdale Central would score tying the game 1-1. The second half began in a stalemate with both teams having opportunities to score but never converting. The Hornets broke the tie when Jacob Arflack stepped up and scored an amazing free kick in the top left corner giving the Hornets a 2-1 lead. The 2-1 result would hold giving the Hornets their second win of the season.
10/4- In their third straight game the Hornets took on Proviso West. The Hornets battled through adversity the entire game with Proviso West showing up late and some questionable decisions going against the Hornets putting them down 3-0 at halftime. The Hornets were unable to find the back of the net this game losing 5-0
10/6- For their fourth game of the week the Hornets travelled to Timothy Christian. The Hornets had early chances with Cole Dominguez and Aris Papageorge applying the pressure to the Timothy Christian backline forcing mistakes. Timothy Christian was able to break the tie at the end of the first half when they scored a penalty kick. The second half was in Timothy Christian's favor as they were able to put three more past the Hornets and the age would end 4-0.
Week of September 25th
Varsity The team had a busy week with three games. The team got off to a great start with a 6-0 win on Tuesday against Willowbrook. We opened the scoring in the first half by great interchange between Jimmy Martin and Ben Bartninkas which led to a good finish by Jimmy. The team added to the lead when Richie Pikula scored on a rebound following a shot by Jake Lu. Diego Canas scored the third goal of the night from a corner kick by Ethan Ebreo. The team went into halftime winning 3-0 and didn’t stop there. Early in the second half Jake Lu got on the scoresheet following a counterattack. Quickly following this, Jake added two assists on passes to Jimmy Martin for his second and third goals of the night. Davin Olsen, Brody Hallman, Jaoquin Amaro, and Braedon Atkinson stayed organized defensively and Aiden LaPat made good saves to keep the shutout. The team picked up a strong 6-0 conference win.
The team then traveled to Hinsdale Central on Thursday night. After allowing a couple of early goals, the team settled into the game. Jake Lu and Jimmy Martin connected with each other offensively and started to create chances for us. We were able to get back into the game after Jimmy stole the ball off of Central’s centerback and scored on a breakaway. The team went into halftime down 3-1. We kept battling, but weren’t able to cut back into the lead. Diego Canas added a goal later on in the game and we ultimately fell 7-2 to a strong Hinsdale Central side.
The team ended the week with a home game against St. Laurence. Due to many injuries we were short handed for much of the game. The available players battled and did their best to stay in the game. Davin Olsen and Brody Hallman kept the team organized defensively and Aiden LaPat kept St. Laurence off the scoreboard for much of the game. Diego Canas, Ethan Ebreo, and Jake Lu helped to create a few chances for us. St. Laurence took the lead with under 20 minutes left on a penalty kick and added another one later for a 2-0 defeat.
Freshman 9/25- The Hornets opened their week of games against York. The first half was a hard-fought battle between both teams leading to chances at both ends of the field. Despite multiple chances from each team, the first half finished 0-0. York took an early second-half lead with a long-distance shot that skipped past the Hornets goalkeeper. Not long after the first York scored again making the score 2-0. For the remainder of the half, the Hornets were on the front foot giving Damian Lopez and Mario Lagunas a number of chances to score. Unfortunately, nobody could find the back of the net, and the game finished 2-0.
9/28- The Hornets faced off against a strong OPRF side in their next game. OPRF dominated most of the game and was able to score in both halves. The Hornets fought hard but fell 5-0.
9/30- On Saturday the Hornets finished up their week against St. Laurence. One of the only bright spots of the day for the Hornets was when Aris Papageorge took the ball of a St. Laurence defender and played a great ball to Luke Nastali whose shot went just wide of the post. The Hornets would go on to lose 7-0
Week of September 18th
Varsity The team had a busy week with three games beginning Monday with a game at Nazareth Academy. The game was even throughout the first half and we found ourselves behind 1-0 from a defensive mistake. The team came out flying in the second half and took control of the game. We evened the game early in the second half when Jake Lu took advantage of a Nazareth mistake and passed a ball over the top of the goalie for Ayman Najjar to pass into an empty net. We took the lead shortly after after a great volley from Jimmy Martin. Nazareth was able to tie the game at 2-2 a few minutes later after a penalty kick. With 14 minutes left, Jimmy Martin gave us the lead from a penalty kick. Unfortunately, Nazareth was able to come back again and the game ended in a 3-3 tie. The team then traveled to Leyden on Tuesday night and faced a very good Leyden team. We did not play well and lost 8-0.
On Saturday, we traveled to Providence Catholic for a non-conference matchup. The combination of Ethan Ebreo, Diego Canas, and Ben Bartninkas did a great job of controlling the game throughout the majority of the first half. Jimmy Martin created chance after chance and was able to give us a lead after a pass from Diego Canas. We added to the lead later in the half when Ethan Ebreo played a free kick to the far post which Davin Olsen headed home. Providence Catholic pulled one back later in the half and we went into halftime with a 2-1 lead. The game was much more even throughout the second half. Jimmy continued to create chances and hit the post and crossbar. Aiden LaPat made some great saves to keep Providence Catholic from scoring. They were able to tie the game late from a penalty kick and the game ended in a 2-2 tie. The team gets back into action with games against Willowbrook, Hinsdale Central, and St Laurence.
Freshman 9/18- The Freshman Hornets started a busy week when they took on Nazareth. The Hornets were strong defensively in the first half behind good performances by Gevon Hart and Ozan Klose. Despite the good performances Nazareth was able to score and lead the Hornets 2-0 at half. Damian Lopez scored the Hornets' only goal of the game as he took on the Nazareth defender drawing a penalty kick. Damian placed his penalty in the bottom left corner giving the Hornets their first goal. The game would finish 3-1 Nazareth
9/19- The Hornets' next game they faced off against a strong Leyden squad. The first half was back and forth with Leyden capitalizing on their chances, allowing them to lead 2-0 going into halftime. Despite an excellent performance from the Hornets goalkeeper Radoslaw Gorz-Capistran the Hornets unfortunately fell to the Eagles 4-0.
9/20- On Wednesday the Freshman Hornets took on their rival Downers Grove South. The first half started strong for the Hornets as they were moving the ball nicely and looked extremely solid at the back. With 10 minutes left in the first half, DGS was able to open the scoring on a rebound off the post making the score 1-0. The second half was a stalemate with both teams playing good defense. The Hornets had a few chances from the run of play and a late free kick that almost found the back of the net. Despite a great Hornet performance, they fell to the Mustangs 1-0
Week of September 11th
Varsity The team started the week with a home game on Monday against Ridgewood. The team got off to a slow start and found ourselves down 2-0 midway through the first half. With 12 minutes left in the half Ethan Ebreo served a corner which was cleared out to Jimmy Martin. Jimmy controlled the ball with his chest and hit a volley to the near post which cut the lead to 2-1. The team ended up going into halftime down 3-1. The team came out flying in the second half. Jimmy, Jake Lu, and Diego Canas created chance after chance throughout the entire second half. We weren’t able to finish to cut into the Ridgewood lead and the game ended 4-1.
The team traveled to Morton on Tuesday to take on a very tough team. The team created a chance early through Jimmy Martin and Jake Lu. Aiden LaPat played well in goal throughout the entire game and made great saves. After falling behind 3-0 in the first half, the team got a goal back through a heads up free kick by Jake Lu. He placed the ball down, saw the goalie wasn’t in position, and placed a great shot into the bottom corner. The team went into halftime down 3-1. Another early chance was created in the second half by Jake and Jimmy. The team was very organized defensively throughout much of the second half and did not give Morton many chances. Ayman Najjar stepped in to play center back and did a nice job of closing down space for Morton players. The team was down 3-1 with about 6 minutes left, but gave up a couple goals in the last few minutes and the game ended 5-1.
Freshman 9/11- The Hornets traveled to Willowbrook to take on the Warriors. It was a rainy afternoon and the conditions definitely played a factor in the game. The Hornets had early chances with Aris Papageorge and Damian Lopez but couldn't finish them off. Right before halftime, Willowbrook was able to score a tap-in as the wet grass caused the ball to shoot past the Hornet goalkeeper. The second half saw Willowbrook score two more times and despite more chances, the Hornets still couldn't score. The game finished 3-0 to Willowbrook.
9/13- The Hornets took on Morton at home. Morton was technically very good and showed it from the first whistle. Despite a hard effort, the Hornets lost 9-0.
Week of September 4th
Varsity The team started a busy week with a matchup against Elmwood Park on Tuesday. The team got off to a slow start and were down 2-0 at halftime. The team played much better in the second half. Davin Olsen and Brody Hallman organized the defense and did not allow Elmwood Park to create any opportunities in the second half. The team was able to get on the scoreboard after Diego Canas drew a foul for a penalty kick which Jimmy Martin converted. The team continued to put pressure on the Elmwood Park defense, but were not able to even the game which ended in a 2-1 loss.
The team traveled to Joliet Central on Thursday. Overall, it was not a great performance by the team and lost 5-0. Lazar Martic made some good saves in goal and Jake Lu tried to create opportunities for the team.
The team finished the week with a game against Glenbard South. Aiden LaPat played well in goal and was led by strong defensive efforts by Brody Hallman, Davin Olsen, Braedon Atkinson, and Joaquin Amaro. The team created a few chances through Jake Lu and Ethan Ebreo. Aaron Mendoza Lopez had a shot on goal which was saved. We created a few chances throughout the game, but were not able to convert them which led to a 0-0 tie to end the week. The team gets back into action next week with a home game against Ridgewood on Monday and travels to Morton on Tuesday.
Freshman 9/5- The Hornets got their first positive season result when they tied 1-1 against Elmwood Park. The Hornets controlled the beginning of the game maintaining possession and keeping the pressure on Elmwood Park's back line. The Hornets took the lead 10 minutes into the game when Aris Papageorge finished a loose ball into the bottom corner. The rest of the game was back and forth until the second half when Elmwood Park tied the game on a corner kick. The game would finish in a 1-1 draw.
9/6- In their next game, the Hornets took on a very good Glenbard West team. The Hornets did their best to hold off the strong attack but could not do much as the game finished in an 8-0 loss
9/7- The Hornets traveled to Joliet Central to take on the Steelmen. With the Hornets missing a few early chances and Joliet Central finishing theirs, the first half finished 2-0 to Joiet Central. The second half was much of the same and the game finished 5-0 Joliet Central
9/9- On Saturday the Hornets travelled to Glenbard South where they were able to get their first win of the season! This was by far the Hornets' best game yet, they dominated the midfield all game and were able to score in each half. The first goal came from Juan Amaro on a first-half corner kick from Damian Lopez. Juan attacked the ball in the air and was able to volley it into the back of the net. The second-half goal was scored by Cole Dominguez who was in a perfect position to tap home a great cross from Ayman Pharaon. The Hornets look to ride their momentum into their next game when they take on Willowbrook.
Week of August 28th
Varsity The team hosted their first home game of the season and came away with a 2-1 win over Lemont. The team went behind 1-0 early into the game, but found an attacking rhythm after that. Jimmy Martin and Jake Lu helped create some good chances in the first half and we went into halftime down 1-0. The team put together a great second half. We were much more organized defensively led by Davin Olsen and Brody Hallman. Joaquin Amaro and Braedon Atkinson played well as outside backs. The team leveled the game through a long throw in from Davin which was headed in by Ayman Najjar. We then took the lead from great buildup which led to Andrew Leonardson beating a couple of Lemont defenders and playing a beautiful pass to Jake Lu who scored his 5th goal of the season. The team gets back in action next week with games against Elmwood Park, Joliet Central, and Glenbard South.
Freshman In the second game of the year, the Hornets took on a strong Ridgewood team. The game was back and forth at the start with the Hornets having some great opportunities to score but couldn't find the back of the net. Ridgewood was able to take the lead after capitalizing on their chances leading 2-0 at half. The Hornets came out strong in the second half almost scoring again but just couldn't finish. Despite a great performance from goalkeeper Radoslaw Gorz-Capistran the Hornets fell to Ridgewood 3-0.
The Hornets travelled to Lyons to take on an extremely good LT team. The Hornets were on the back foot defending most of the game and did their best to hold off the constant attack from LT. Despite having some counter attack opportunities the Hornets were unable to score. LT took advantage of their many opportunities and were able to beat the Hornets 6-0. The Hornets next game will be their first home game 9/5 aaisnt Elmwood Park
Week of August 21st
Varsity The soccer team opened their season with a matchup against Shepard. They took a lead early in the game from a great goal by Jimmy Martin. He received a pass from Ethan Ebreo and drilled a shot off the far post and in. The team battled throughout and Ethan helped create other opportunities to score. Unfortunately, defensive mistakes led to goals for Shepard and the team fell 5-1.
On Friday the team took on a good Marian Catholic team. Jake Lu gave us the lead from the penalty spot and added a second goal following a cross the Diego Canas. Jake continued to create chances to score throughout the game. The team entered halftime tied 2-2. Davin Olsen gave us the lead on a header from an Ethen Ebreo freekick near midfield. Lazar Martic made some great saves in goal. The team ultimately fell 5-3 in the game.
The team picked up their first win of the season with a 3-2 win over Hancock. Jimmy Martin gave the team the lead from a nice assist by Jake Lu. Jake added two other goals in the first half with assists from Ethan Ebreo and Ben Bartninkas. Jake and Jimmy created many great opportunities for the team and caused problems for the Hancock defenders throughout the entire game. The team did not give Hancock many chances and played strong defense in the second half led by Davin Olsen and Brody Hallman. Aiden LaPat made a few saves in the second half to solidify our 3-2 win.
Freshman The Freshman soccer team opened their season up with a tough opponent in Hinsdale Central. Hinsdale Central opened the scoring early with an unsavable shot putting the Hornets down 1-0. The Hornets battled back the entire game which nearly led to a goal by Ayman Pharaon from a long free kick. Despite great defensive performances by Gevon Hart, Juan Armaro, Jacob Arflack, and Charlie Oakes the Hornets fell to Hinsdale Central 3-0. The Hornets take the field again on Monday 8/28 when they take on Ridgewood.
