Varsity The team hosted two games in their final week of the season. We took on Glenbard West on Tuesday night. Ben Bush gave us a 1-0 lead in the first half with a rocket passed the goalie from about 30 yards out. Glenbard West was able to tie the game late in the first half to enter halftime with a score of 1-1. Jacob Charters was excellent defensively and was too quick for all of Glenbard West attackers and shut them down. Nureddin Atassi gave us a 2-1 lead in the second half with a tap in at the far post. We kept control of the game, but made a couple of mistakes in the back which Glenbard West capitalized on. They scored twice within 30 seconds with just under 7 minutes left to take a 3-2 lead. We put some pressure on their goal, but weren’t able to score and the game ended with a disappointing 3-2 loss.
The final game of the season was a back and forth battle with Proviso East on Senior Night. They took the lead 1-0 in the first half, but we evened the score after Allen Kozlica drew a penalty and then converted it for us. We created a ton of chances and scored again when Ibraheem Chahin scored on a header from Liam Camden’s throw in. Proviso East drew a penalty kick shortly after and tied the game at 2. The game ended up going into overtime and we dominated the overtime sessions. We took a 3-2 lead after Allen Kozlica drew another penalty kick and Ben Bush scored for us. The game was then put away after a Jaitin Pallath cross bounced off of a Proviso East defender and into the back of the net. This gave us a 4-2 win to end the season.
We battled all year and were very proud of the team. We want to thank the seniors: Eryk Klimaszewski, Jake Hospes, Mark Bielanski, Ben Bush, Gael Marquez, Ibraheem Chahin, Liam Camden, Allen Kozlica, and Omar Khayyat for their dedication and hard work that they put into the soccer program during their four years at Hinsdale South.
Sophomore The Hornets played their last game of the season on Thursday at home vs. Proviso East. The team had a very strong start with a pass from Owen Atkinson to Jaitin Pallath who shot and just missed on the opening play of the game. The team continued to press Proviso and earned multiple corners throughout the half that Jorge Miranda placed in the box but we couldn't quite score on. Eli Langdon came in the game and made a great slide tackle to prevent Proviso from clearing the ball out of their box and allowed the Hornets to keep our pressure on them. Finally, one of our last corners of the half Mladen Mrksic served the ball and Owen Atkinson headed the ball into the net for the Hornets first goal of the game! But the boys didn't let down. Oscar Padilla and Joaquin Amaro won the ball out of the air throughout the entire second half to keep majority of the play on Proviso's half of the field so we could continue to try to score. We took tons of shots that missed over the top of the goal, but continued to create chances! Near the end of the second half Mladen Mrksic took a corner and served the ball into the box and after multiple mis-touches from both teams, Davin Olsen kicked the ball into the back of the net and scored our second goal of the game to make the final win 2 - 0.
The team worked very hard this season and improved each practice and game we played. The Hornets finished the season with a 2 - 7 record and our leading goal scorer was Owen Atkinson!
Week of April 5th
Varsity The team had a very busy week with three difficult games. The first was against Leyden. Kareem Chahin, Ibraheem Chahin, and Allen Kozlica helped us control the flow of the play at the start of the game. Unfortunately, we had a difficult time slowing down Leyden’s players with their very wide field. They were able to find open space and took a 2-0 first half lead. The team continued to battle and had chances to tighten the game, but we weren’t able to convert. Leyden added two more goals in the second half to end in a 4-0 defeat.
The team took on a tough challenge against Lyons Township on Thursday. The team was up to the challenge and put a ton of effort and heart into the game. After about ten minutes, we took control of the game. Ibraheem Chahin was all over the field offensively and caused a lot of difficulty for LT’s defense. Gustavo Botera was outstanding defensively and shut down a very dangerous LT attack. Jake Hospes and Liam Camden helped keep things organized defensively and Eryk Klimaszewski made some incredibly difficult saves. The team fell behind 1-0 late in the first half off of an LT corner kick. We continued to battle into the second half, but with about 25 minutes left LT scored twice very quickly to put the game away. Even in a loss, it was one of the best games that the team has played this season.
The team ended their week with a 2-0 loss to Downers Grove South. We didn’t play well and quickly ran out of energy following two difficult games earlier in the week. Ben Bush and Kareem Chahin played well in their central midfield positions and Eryk Klimaszewski made some great saves. Unfortunately, we went behind 1-0 late in the first half on a penalty kick and then DGS added a goal with about 30 minutes left in the second half. We didn’t create enough chances to get back into the game and ended the week with a 2-0 loss.
Sophomore This week the Hornets had a tough week with 3 away games. They started the week against Leyden on Tuesday. With only 2 subs and a few players out, the Hornets really stepped up to play their best. Max Broshous played outside back for the first time this year and did a great job defending and connecting passes to our midfielders. Owen Atkinson played the whole game, won the ball many times for our team and took a few shots to try and put the Hornets on the board. Davin Olsen made great defensive plays to stop Leyden from scoring using his speed. Feras Alnass made some great saves at the end of the game to help keep a clean slate in the second half. The Hornets did not allow any goals in the second half and ended the game 0-4. We also suffered a tough loss to LT on Thursday 0-7.
On Saturday the boys continued their conference play against DGS. We gave up an early goal that allowed DGS to take the lead. But we didn’t let down. Davin Olsen and Joaquin Amaro kept our back line organized and stepped up to win the ball. Max Broshous put high pressure on their forwards to force them to play the ball backwards. Mladen Mrksic controlled the center of the midfield for our team, winning the ball, and connecting passes to his teammates. Oscar Padilla and Owen Atikinson did a great job winning the ball out of the air on punts and goal kicks. Simon Janakiev played great at left mid for us connecting short passes to Owen Atkinson, Matt Camacho and Zain Haq. In the last few minutes of the game Jorge Miranda had a great shot off a free kick from Owen Atkinson that hit the cross bar. The Hornets played a tough game and played hard till the final buzzer, unfortunately losing 0-3.
Week of March 29th
Varsity The team took on Willowbrook over spring break. We took control right from the start of the game and left no room for Willowbrook to get back into it. Gael Marquez scored the first of the game to give the team a 1-0 lead. Allen Kozlica added a second goal later in the first half from a corner. He took control of the ball after a corner kick and scored a volley from a very tight angle. Jaitin Pallath made his varsity debut during this game and added two goals in the first half! The team took a 4-0 lead into halftime and didn’t look back. Gustavo Botero and Jacob Charters played very well defensively and kept Willowbrook from creating any chances which led to a final score of 4-0. Sophomore This week the Hornets continued conference play against Willowbrook. The team was ready to go after practicing for almost a week between games. The boys put tough pressure on Willowbrook right away and Davin Olsen brought the ball up the field out of the back and was fouled which earned us a free kick. Owen Atkinson took a perfect free kick shot and scored our first goal of the season!! The Hornets kept pressing for more. Yzan Almatarneh had great passes at forward and even connected on some give and goes with his teammates. Then Jaitin Pallath shot and followed up on the rebound and scored our second goal off of the assist of a combination of passes between Max Broshous and Zain Haq. The Hornets were played tough soccer and conceded a free kick that led to Willowbrook’s first goal of the game, but they didn’t let down. We had great crosses from the team that Mladen Mrskic tried to score off of but were saved by their goalie. Eli Langdon had a great stop in the middle of the field to help stop an attack from Willowbrook. The first half ended with the Hornets leading 2-1.
During the second half the Hornets earned a throw in near the outside of the box and Matt Camacho threw the ball to Owen Atikinson who shot and scored his second goal of the game to put the Hornets ahead 3-1! Simon Janakiev played great at outside mid to try to generate some attacks near the box. Our team was playing great but Willowbrook didn’t let up and scored a second goal to make the game 3-2. Great defense was played by Jorge Miranda, Joaquin Amaro, Davin Olsen, Oscar Pallath, and Matt Camacho to prevent Willowbrook from scoring any additional goals. Feras Alnass also made a great save as goalie to stop one of Willowbrooks shots. The Hornets won their first game with a final score of 3-2!
Week of March 22nd
Varsity The team started the week with a huge 1-0 win against Downers Grove North. The team took a 1-0 in the first half after Allen Kozlica took a shot which was blocked into the path of Lukas Isberg. He hit a one time shot to the near post passed the goalie to give us the lead. The team played great defense throughout the entire game. Jake Hospes and Liam Camden kept the defense organized and blocked many shots from DGN. Kareem Chahin was all over the field and helped shutdown the DGN midfield. Eryk Klimaszewski was excellent in goal and helped keep the shutout. It was a great win for the team!
The team took on Addison Trail at home on Thursday. Ibraheem and Kareem Chahin helped to control the midfield throughout the game. Unfortunately, we made some defensive mistakes which led to Addison Trail goals to fall behind 2-0, but we cut into the lead with a goal from AJ Metzger. AT scored again in the second half to take a 3-1 lead. AJ scored a second goal of the game with about 3 minutes left. He took a one time shot from outside of the box and scored in the top corner. This cut the lead to 3-2 which ended up being the final score. The team battled, but ultimately fell short.
Sophomore This week we played a home game against Addison Trail. Addison Trail was a good team, but that didn't deter our team from playing a great game against them. Some highlights from the game were Oscar Padilla winning the ball in the center of the field off of headers, Jaitin Pallath and Marcin Nowobilski getting to through balls on the outside of the field to help start our offense, Owen Atkinson and Mladen Mrksic connecting passes through the midfield, and Elijah Langdon using his speed to put pressure on AT's back line. Our defense consisted of Jorge Miranda, Davin Olsen, Joaquin Amaro, and Matt Camacho who held a tight line to force Addison Trail offside many times throughout the game to stop their attacks, which really frustrated the opposing team. Davin Olsen also won the ball and connected passes to our midfielders to help us build out of the back. The team played a great game overall and we could see things we have been working on in practice finally coming together in the game.
Week of March 15th
Varsity The team started the week with a home game against OPRF. The team came out strong and controlled the first 20 minutes of the game. Ibraheem Chahin took control of the offense and created a couple of early chances for us. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to convert them. After about 20 minutes, OPRF started to maintain a hold of the ball and kept putting pressure on our goal. Eryk Klimaszewski made some incredible saves along with the help of strong defense from Liam Camden and Jake Hospes to keep the game scoreless at halftime. OPRF took a 1-0 lead a few minutes into the second half. Although we were able to put a little pressure on, we weren’t able to score. OPRF added a goal with less than 30 seconds left in the game to end in a 2-0 loss.
The team faced another tough opponent in Morton on Thursday. We started off the game by moving the ball well and had some strong defensive plays. Dimitrije Gujanicic played well in goal and made some great saves throughout the game. Unfortunately, Morton was able to punish us on some defensive mistakes which lead to a 3-0 halftime deficit. The team continued to battle in the second half and Gael Marquez scored to cut the lead to 3-1. We continued to try to push forward which led to two Morton goals. With about 15 minutes left, Ibraheem Chahin drew a penalty kick which Allen Kozlica converted to cut the deficit to 5-2. We were proud of the effort that the team put against a very strong opponent.
Sophomore This week the Hornets started their week with an away game against OPRF. The Hornets started the game with great short passing between Owen Atkinson and Matt Camacho. Our team struggled with the speed of OPRFs attacks and we couldn’t clear the ball out of our box which allowed their first two goals. Dimitrije Gujancic made great saves throughout the game to keep the Hornets in a close game with an awesome save in the second half that he saved with his foot and then also saved the rebound. Zain Haq showed great speed at center mid winning the ball from the other team to try and generate an attack. Elijah Langdon had a great back heel pass at the top of OPRF's box to pass to his teammate without them taking the ball. Jorge Miranda used his speed to track back on multiple players throughout the game to help prevent a 1v1 with our goalie. Overall the Hornets played a tough defensive game and did their best especially in the second half to hold off their attacks with a final score of 0-3.
We had a tough game against Morton later this week and lost 8-0. I'm really proud of how hard the boys fought in the second half to try and score a goal. Marcin Nowobilski, Zain Haq, and Max Broshous pressed Morton's defense to try and cause a turn over and get off a shot on goal. Both Aryan Patel and Yzan Almatarneh stepped up to play goalie for our team while our goalie was injured. We’ll regroup this week before we continue conference play against Addison Trail.

The team started off slow and fell behind 1-0 after Central was awarded and converted a penalty kick after about 5 minutes. The team conceded another goal about 10 minutes later to go down 2-0. At that point, the team settled in and began to play short balls through Hinsdale Central’s defense. After a scramble in the box Lukas Isberg scored just before halftime to cut the lead to 2-1 heading into the second half. We took control of the game for the majority of the second half with strong midfield play from Ibraheem Chahin, Allen Kozlica, and Diego Castellanos. Eryk Klimaszewski played outstanding in goal and kept Central from adding to the lead. The team battled until the end, but ultimately came up short with a final score of 2-1.
