Sophomore The sophomore team ended their season this week with a 2-0 loss to Leyden on Tuesday and a 2-0 loss to York on Thursday. The team started really slow against Leyden and gave up a goal five minutes into the game. After that point, the team played really well and started to control the game. Jake Fulscher put Leyden’s defenders under a lot of pressure which led to multiple counterattacks for us. Xander Tsui, Joe Ofenloch, Adan Amaro, and Kevin Krukowski played really well defensively to keep us in the game. With 7 minutes left in the game, Byran Alcantara saved a penalty kick. We continued to push searching for the tying goal and were unable to find the back of the net. Leyden scored with 3 minutes left to make the score 2-0 and put it out of reach. Against York, the team again got off to a slow start and had trouble keeping possession. Bryan Alcantara made some great saves in the first half. Two slow responses by midfielders and defenders led to goals for York in the first half. Tyler Johnson had a chance to cut into the lead in the first half, but his shot went wide. We went into halftime losing 2-0. The second half was very evenly played between both teams. Adam Krupa and Dylan Chen controlled the midfield and provided us with chances to score.
Week of October 3rd
Sophomore The sophomore soccer team had a really rough week with a 6-0 loss to Morton on Thursday followed by a 8-0 loss to Mt. Carmel on Saturday. The team played well defensively in the first half against Morton and Bryan Alcantara made some great saves to keep the team in the game. Unfortunately, a couple of mistakes by our midfielders and defenders led to goals for Morton and the game started to slip away. Dylan Chen, Ali Abbas, and Joe Sheridan created opportunities to score, but we just weren’t able to find the back of the net. The team took on Mt. Carmel on Saturday. They started out well in the first 10 minutes of the game trading opportunities with Mt. Carmel. Unfortunately, after those first 10 minutes, nothing seemed to go right. Simple mistakes led to easy goals for Mt. Carmel and the game got away from us.
Week of September 26th
Varsity Hinsdale South 5 - Lemont 2 Tonights game started on the wrong foot for us. Lemont HS scored their first goal after a run on the left side ball was passed in the middle after a deflection it ended up in the our net. After we got scored We did turn things completely around. Sergio Gonzales scored his first one of the season (header from corner kick) and Ryan Kuhlman scored second goal after being assisted from Nano Awere. Lemont scored their second goal right before first half ended. Final score first half Hinsdale 2 Lemont 2 Second half unlike the first half start very well for us. Most of the game was played on the opposite half. Karl Ondra scored 2 goals one from free kick and Ryan Kuhlman scored his second one after a nice run in the middle of the opponent defense. Hinsdale South 9 Proviso East 5 Good game over all! We played very well attacking but very poor defending in multiple occasions. Final scored 9-5. Win for Hinsdale south. Karl Ondra scored 3 goals Ryan Kuhlman scored 2 goals Nano Awere, Ryan Wooten, Chris Wayman and Bart Majerczyk scored one each.
JV Junior varsity team played home against Lyons Township High School. Hornets created few scoring opportunities but couldn't convert them while LT had 4 scoring opportunities and they connected on all of them. LT leads 4:0 at the half time. Second half wasn't any better for Hornets in terms of converting chances. LT added 3 more goals and they win 7:0. Hornets next outing will be away match against Morton.
Junior varsity team played away match at Morton High School. With many mistakes in the back by Hornets and high pressure by Mustangs they scored on all six scoring opportunities that they had. Mustangs take 6:0 lead into the half. Once Mustangs put they bench in Hornets started to create some scoring chances but they couldn't convert them. Mustangs added two more goals and they win with the final score of 8:0. Hornets next game is on Friday home game against Riverside-Brookfield High School.
Junior varsity team played a home game against Riverside-Brookfield. Bulldogs got on the board first with a counterattack after Hornets pushed too many players for a corner kick. Couple minutes later Hornets scored a goal on an own goal by Bulldogs goalie. Both teams went into the half with plenty of scoring chances not converted. Second half was much better by Hornets. They controlled the game and had some good chances but in the end they just couldn't put the ball into the net. Final score 1:1! Hornets next game is on Monday. They play away against Oak Park River Forest.
Sophomore This week the sophomore team played Lake Forest Academy at home. The team started off the game with a quick goal by Max Mendoza who capitalized on a mistake by Lake Forest Academy's keeper. The hornets kept their attacks going in the first half with plays by Giriffen Isberg, Dylan Chen, and Jacob Descz but were unable to put away another goal. Then on a fast counter attack and a mistake by the hornets allowed Lake Forest Academy their first goal of the game to end the half at 1-1. The boys started the second half trying to get a goal early but were unfortunately unable to hold off their attacks. The hornets lost 4-1 after giving up 3 goals in the second half. We will continue our conference play this week with a game against Morton on Thursday at home.
Week of September 19th
Varsity Hinsdale South 0 Downers Grove South 3 First half our team outplayed the opponent even though the score for the first half was 1-0. We had a couple of good chances that we did not capitalize. Last 10 minutes of first half our boys closed the other team in their own half resulting with few more chances in the 5 yard area.Second half DGS came out strong. They had a counter attack run that was left for offside from our defense. That resulted with the second goal.We had 2 very good chances after second goal. Two headers from the 5 yard area. One of them hit he the cross bar.Third goal was scored with 25 minutes left on the second half. Long cross from 30 yards was headed from the forward of the opponent team ended on the upper 90.We had few more chances in the end to score our goal but they were blocked from the other defense.. At the end of this game the boys should be proud of themselves because now they are playing a different level of soccer.
JV Junior varsity team played away against Willowbrook High School. Early mistake on defense by Hornets gives hosts 1:0 lead. After that JV team settled down and played solid half. They had few chance but they went into halftime with the score 1:0 for Willowbrook. First 10 minutes of second half was crucial for Hornets not to fall down 2 goals behind. Midway through the second half Hornets lost concentration and hosts scored their second goal of the game. Few minutes after Hornets were awarded with penalty kick that was committed on Eustace Awere. Jose Dominguez converted penalty kick and gave life to Hornets. Score is 2:1 for Willowbrook. Down by one goal Hornets pushed up everyone to try and score the equalizer but a mistake in midfield has left defense wide open and Willowbrook scores on counterattack. They added another goal after that to make it 4:1 and final score. Hornets next game is on Wednesday at home against Leyden.
Junior varsity team played their last game of the week at home against Leyden. Good play from both teams in the first half. Hornets created few scoring chances but one mistake in midfield is all that Leyden needed and a quick counterattack and Leyden take the lead 1:0 into the halftime. Slow start to the second half and Leyden scores quick 2 goals and raise their lead to 3:0. Hornets had couple chances but they couldn't score and the score stays the same 3:0 in favor of visitors. Hornets next game is on Monday at home against Lyons Township High School.
Sophomore The sophomore team faced two tough opponents this week in Addison Trail and Downers Grove South. The team played really well in the first half against AT. Bryan Alcantara made some excellent saves in the net and Adam Krupa did a great job of slowing down AT’s counterattacks. The team gave up an unlucky goal in the last few minutes of the first half to trail 2-0 at halftime. We started the second half really slow and gave up two quick goals to fall behind 4-0. Although Jake Fulscher and Griffin Isberg were pushing forward we were unable to get a goal to get us back into the game and the game ended with a 4-0 loss.
The team played DGS on Thursday. We controlled the first 15 minutes of the game and took a 1-0 lead when Ali Abbas found the back of the net after a great through ball by Dylan Chen. The team gave up two goals in the remainder of the first half and trailed 2-1 at halftime. The second half was very evenly played with both teams having chances to score. With less than 30 seconds left, Jacob Deszcz was able to beat his defender on the end line and play a ball across the middle. The ball found its way behind the goalie and rolled across the goal line. There was a group of players from both teams on the goal line and somehow DGS managed to keep the ball out of the back of the net. This was the best game that the sophomore team played all year and were unfortunate to come out with a 2-1 defeat.
Week of September 12th
Varsity Hinsdale South 2 UNO Garcia 1 Varsity team rebounded with a win in their second game of PepsiCo Showdown Tournament by beating UNO Garcia with a score 2:1. Both teams had chances that they couldn't convert into goals and first half ends with neither team scoring. Inside the 20 minutes of the second half Hornets high pressure and winning the battle of 50/50 balls has earned them a quick 2 goal lead. Both goals scored by Ryan Kuhlman. Once again mistakes on defense and a reckless foul inside the penalty box has earned UNO Garcia a penalty kick. With converted penalty kick scoreboard reads 2:1 in favor of Hornets with less then 20 minutes of the game. With neither team converting their chances in last 20 minutes of the game score stays the same and Hornets win their second game of the season. Player of the match Ryan Kuhlman.
JV Hinsdale South 0 Glenbard West 3 Junior varsity team played their first home game of the season against Glenbard West high school. Plenty of opportunities for Hornets which they didn't capitalize and once again crucial mistakes by defense has gifted this game to visitors from Glenbard. Final score 3:0 Glenbard West.
Hinsdale South 3 Hinsdale Central 5 Junior varsity soccer team played away at Hinsdale Central. Hornets started the game really well creating few good chance and scoring through Karel Ondra. Once again mistakes started to pileup and drop off in concentration has given the hosts quick 3 unanswered goals and Hornets go into the half down 3:1. First 20 minutes of the second half was beautiful play from Hornets. They tied the game through 2 goals from Ryan Wooten. Hornets level of play dropped and Central capitalized and scored two more goals to bring the final score at 5:3 in favor of hosts.
Sophomore This week the sophomore boys soccer team played Providence Catholic High School on Saturday. The boys had a great first half with attacks on the Celtics led my Dylan Chen, Max Mendoza and Jacob Deszcz. Our center midfielders Adam Krupa and Griffen Isberg won majority of the 50-50 balls to keep play on the Celtics half. Unfortunately a slow start to the second half left the Hornets down 2-0. The boys didn't give up and kept attacking and scored a goal by Ali Abbas assisted by Jacob Deszcz with three minutes left in the game. As time was running out the boys kept attacking their goal and unfortunately our final shot by Xander Tsui was high which left us down 2-1 at the end of the game. We were very proud of how hard they played until the final whistle. The sophomores will get back to conference play on Monday against Addison Trail at home.
Week of September 5th
Varsity Hinsdale South 4 East Aurora 3 Balanced play thru 10 minutes of the game. Neither team finishing of their chances. In 15th minute Hornets take the lead thru Nana Awere header and his first goal of the season. With Hornets miscommunication on defense E.Aurora takes advantage and ties the game to 1:1. Hornets rebound from their defensive miscues and take a lead thru Christian Lopez (1st goal of the season) header midway through first half. Penalty kick was awarded to Hornets when E. Aurora fouled Nana Awere inside penalty box. E. Aurora keeper comes up with a huge save on penalty kick by Ryan Kuhlman and Hornets take only 2:1 lead to halftime. Penalty kick to E. Aurora and mishandling by hornets keeper has put the score in favor of visitors. They lead 3:2 with 20 minutes to go. Hornets kept on pressing and they tie it up thru another header by Christian Lopez his second goal of the game 10 minutes to go. With a free kick in last minute of the game, last chance for either side Bartosz Majerczyk of Hornets brilliantly struck kick ends in the net and varsity team earns their first win of the season. Final score 4:3 Hornets!
Hinsdale South 1 Willowbrook 2 Chris hits a crossbar from 26 yrds for the first real chance of the game by either side. Christian with a throw in in 20min assists Ryan Kuhlman for the first goal of the game. In 33rd min Ryan Wooten with a shot ends up saved by a warriors keeper. Warriors score in 10th minute of second half by hinsdale own goal (Dima) Back and forth neither school took their chances and games is headed to overtime. With the first chance of the overtime Christian steals the ball in the middle of the field and ends up taking a shot from 35 yrds that just goes over the crossbar. Hinsdale South 0 Plainfield East 4 Varsity soccer team had their 4th game in 5 days and they played host to Plainfield East High School. Hornets made couple of mistakes on defense and that's all what players from Plainfield East needed scoring 2 easy goals and putting Plainfield East into the lead. Second half wasn't any better from Hornets who have had to play 4 games in 5 days and exhaustion has played a big part in tonight's performance by Hornets players. Final score 4:0 Plainfield East.
Hinsdale South 0 Back of the Yards 5 PepsiCo Showdown 2016 Varsity soccer team played against Back of Yards High School at Stuart Sports Complex in Aurora. Hornets started the game playing really well. Controlling the ball, pressuring and winning 50/50 tackles. Through first 20 minutes of the game Hornets created 4 goal scoring chances but just couldn't put the ball into the net. First chance of the game for Back of Yards came in 30th minute and they scored. After controlling most of the first half and not scoring on their chances. Back of Yards scored three times on three chances and Hornets went into the half with 3 goals down. Back of Yards High School scored within few minutes of the start of second half to put them up 4:0. Hornets kept on putting pressure but just couldn't put a ball into the net. Final score 5:0 in favor of Back of Yards High School.
JV Hinsdale South 1 Downers Grove South 3 Junior varsity team played away their first game of the season against Downers Grove South. Junior varsity team had plenty of chances in the first half but couldn't capitalize. Downers Grove South score with few minutes left to the first half on a controversial goal where it appeared that DGS player kicked the ball out of Hornets keeper hands and referee allowed the play to stand. Hornets started second half with back to back mistakes by defense which has given DGS another 2 goals. Ryan Wooten scored a beautiful goal from Matt Morawa's cross to bring Hornets into the game. Few more chances came to Hornets but they just couldn't put the ball into the net. Final score 3:1 in favor of DGS.
Sophomore This week the Sophomore boys started conference play with an away game against Willowbrook on Tuesday. The team had a great start to the game and had a 1-0 led on a PK scored by Dylan Chen. The defense, led by Joe Ofenloch, Xander Tsui, Adan Amaro, and Tyler Hill held off numerous attacks from their opponents with the help of goalkeeper Bryan Alcantara. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to hold off Willowbrook's attack as they scored 3 in the second half. Then the boys had a day to recover before they took on East Aurora on Thursday. East Aurora came out quickly against the hornets but the boys were able to hold them to only one goal at half. However, they were able to capitalize on our slow start in the second half, scoring 2 back to back. We were proud that the boys didn't give up at that point and kept their heads up to try and get one before the game ended. Final attacks were led by Ali Abbas and Jake Fulscher. The team will now regroup for a week of practice before taking on Providence on Saturday.
Week of August 29th
Varsity Varsity soccer team hosted a night game to Oak Park River Forest High School. As underdogs to this game Hornets had to play without making mistakes on defense and giving up easy goals to opponents. Hornets played really well in the first half and creating few opportunities to score but one mistakes on defense has given OPRF an easy goal and they went to the half with one goal lead. Careless start to the second half by Hornets has given OPRF another easy goal and they have increased their lead to 2:0. Few more scoring chances for Hornets but they just couldn't put the ball behind keepers back. Final score 2:0 OPRF. Hornets don't have anymore games this week and they get back to action on Tuesday night against Willowbrook High School.
Sophomore This week the sophomore team fell to OPRF 5-0. We played really well in the first half of the game and trailed 1-0 at halftime. However, a slow start to the second half put us in a deficit that we could not come back from. Jake Fulscher and Ali Abbas brought a lot of energy into the game and gave us a couple of good opportunities to score. The sophomore team gets back to action on Tuesday against Willowbrook and Thursday against East Aurora.
Week of August 22nd
Varsity Glenbard West 2 Hinsdale South:0 First game of the season. Lots of excited faces ready to put their skills to the test. The Hornets had a chance to go up, but Ryan Wooten hit the top of post on a penalty kick during the first 20 minutes of the game. The Hornets had many more chances throughout the game, but they couldn't execute in the final third of the field. The soccer gods have been paying attention and they have punished the hornets for that. 1:0 was the half time score. After balanced play in the second half, the Hornets defense made a crucial mistake and Glenbard West took advantage and score their 2nd goal of the game .
Hinsdale South 3 Currie High School 3 The Varsity soccer team played against Currie high school with the game ending in a 3:3 draw. The Hornets lead the entire game by one goal, but in the end they just couldn't hold on to the one goal lead and Currie high school went home with a draw. Ryan Kuhlman had two penalty kicks committed on him and Karel Ondra converted both. Ryan Kuhlman added the third goal of the game and his first of the season. Overall the Hornet played really well and some could say that they deserved to win but a few defensive let downs prevented them from doing so. Player of the match belonged to Ryan Kuhlman.
Hinsdale South 2 Downers Grove North 3 Varsity's third game of the week was played at home against Downers Grove North. Good first half from both teams but neither team could go into the half with a lead. Ryan Kuhlman scored for Hornets to tie the game up. Poor start to the second half has the Hornets chasing the game once again. With 15 minutes left in the game Hornets tie the game through Bartosz Majerczyk. Score stands at 2:2. Last minute of the game and a corner kick for Hornets everyone is up and trying to score the winning goal, but the corner kick was kicked straight to the goalkeeper who immediately threw the ball to his midfielder and counterattack was executed to perfection with Downers Grove North scoring with 30 seconds left on the game clock. Final score 3:2 in favor of visitors.
Sophomore The sophomore soccer team got their season going with three games this week. We started with a 5-2 loss to Glenbard West. The team fell down early in the game, but kept fighting and worked their way back into it. Dylan Chen scored the first goal of the season for the team and Ali Abbas added a goal in the second half in his first ever soccer game. The team took on Curie on Tuesday and tied 1-1. Dylan Chen scored on an incredible free kick from 30 yards out. The defense played really well and limited the number of chances that Curie had. The team ended the week with a 5-0 loss to Plainfield East. The team played their best soccer of the season in the 1st half of that game and trailed 1-0. Unfortunately, we made a few mistakes in the second half which cost us goals and we couldn’t battle our way back into the game. The team gets back to action on Tuesday at home against OPRF.
