Varsity - On Tuesday we travelled to Leyden and lost 9-3. In a game with only a few good moments, Chris Metcalf converted two penalty kicks. Zach Duffy also added a nice goal with a header off a nice corner kick from Bart Majerczyk. - On Thursday we played York for our Senior Night. It was a good night until the end of the game. Up to goals, we started to fall apart with 20 minutes left and we ended up losing 3-2. - On Saturday we beat Curie 4-0 in order to get into the regional playoff. Paul Figus was the Man of the Match with two impressive goals. Chris Metcalf and Ryan Wooten each earned an assist off Figus’ goals. Christian Lopez earned an assist by finding Chris Metcalf for a breakaway goal. Dino Vessol cleaned up a mess in front of the goal for the fourth goal.
JV In the final week of the season, the JV soccer team had a 5-1 loss to Leyden and a 2-1 loss to York. The team was down 3-0 against Leyden when Tyler Matsunaga scored his first goal of the season off of a great pass from Zach De Los Monteros. This gave the team momentum and sparked a few more chances, but unfortunately, we were not able to work our way back into the game. In our game against York, the team fell behind 1-0 at halftime. In the second half, Michael Ofei passed the ball to Patryk Klimaszewski who made a great 50 yard individual run, beating 4 defenders on the way to score a great goal. We gave up a late goal and ended the season with a loss. Although the results weren’t always there, everyone on the team improved from the first day of practice. It was a fun season and a pleasure getting to coach this team.
Freshman Last week the Freshman Boys soccer team finished up the season with our last conference game against Addison Trail. Although the game did not go our way, the boys played very hard the entire game. We finished our season 2-13-1 which doesn’t represent how well the boys all season. They improved every game they played and we still had a lot of fun this season!
Week of October 5
Varsity We had a busy week with 4 games – all away contests. We also enjoyed our second team dinner on Tuesday.
3 of those games were part of the Waubonsie Valley Warrior Invitational. On Monday we battled West Chicago and neither team could find a second goal so we left with a 1-1 tie. Ryan Wooten scored the lone goal as he cleaned up a scramble in the middle of the box. On Wednesday, we defeated Batavia 2-1 as the second game of the tournament. It was a good showing against Coach VanDenburgh’s alma mater and high school coach. Chris Metcalf scored the first goal just 18 seconds into the match and Karel Ondra scored off a free kick right outside the box.
On Thursday, Morton blew us out 8-0. Zach Duffy stepped up and played goalkeeper when Chris Meyers went down with an injury 10 minutes into the game.
On Saturday morning we played Metea Valley for an opportunity to go to the championship of the Warrior Invite. Unfortunately, the Mustangs scored less than two minutes into the game. We were able to respond and they put two more goals in before the end of the match. So we ended up losing 3-0.
JV The JV soccer team had a tough week with losses to Mt. Carmel and Morton. The team played well in moments, but unfortunately, were overmatched by the opponents. Regardless of the score, the team continued to fight and play hard in both of the games. Dima Ehlers played really well defensively and Casper Obryk and Carlos Lopez made some great saves in goal. The team heads into their final week of the season with games against Leyden and York.
Freshman This week the Freshman Boys soccer team had 4 games. Despite losses to Morton and OPRF on Monday and Wednesday, the boys beat York on Friday. A goal by Patrick Savage unassisted won the game for the Hornets. The team played a great game offensively and defensively to shut out the York Dukes. Then on Saturday we traveled to Mt. Carmel. Goals by Ricardo Aillon and Jakub Matyskiewicz, both assisted by Patrick Savage, were unfortunately not enough to beat Mt. Carmel with the final score of 4-2. The boys finish up the season against Addison Trail on Wednesday at home.
Week of September 28
Varsity - On Tuesday night, we played one of best games of the season as we defeated Proviso East 7-2. Ryan Kuhlman had a monster night with 2 goals and an assist. Ryan Wooten added two goals of his own, one of them off a beautiful chip assist from Karel Ondra. - Chris Metcalf was busy all night and earned two assists. Zach Duffy added a goal (assisted by Jack Glimco) and an assist. Also, Bart Majerczyk and Harley Segal each contributed a goal. This was a complete game and we welcomed back Jack Glimco, Homar Garcia, and senior Mike Noble. For the first time all season, every player on the roster was able to play. - Our health and success was short-lived as we lost to Lake Forest Academy and Lake Park on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Chris Metcalf and Ryan Wooten each scored in the 4-2 loss to Lake Forest. Karel Ondra served a nice ball across to Kuhlman who finished it with his head for the lone goal in a 4-1 loss to Lake Park. JV The JV soccer team had a strong performance on Tuesday to beat Proviso East 2-0. Maciek Chmielewski took advantage of a poor Proviso East pass to put the team up 1-0. Patryk Klimaszewski had a great finish with 57 seconds left in the first half to give the team a 2-0 lead at the half. The team played strong defense in the second half to secure the win. The team finished the week with losses to Lake Forest Academy (3-1) and Lake Park (3-0). Maciek Chmielewski scored off a great pass from Seweryn Ciskowski in the game against Lake Forest Academy.
Freshman This week the Freshman Boys soccer team had a busy week with 4 games. On Monday we played Leyden. The boys played very well majority of the game and it wasn't until the end that we lost 3-0. Then on Wednesday we played LT. Unfortunately we gave up two early goals in the beginning of the game and lost 2-0 despite a strong effort to make a come back the rest of the game. The boys had no time to rest since we took on Lake Forest Academy on Thursday. With a goal by Sergio Gonzalez the freshman boys won 1-0 for our first win of the season! It was a very exciting game and win for the team. Finally on Saturday we played Lake Park. The boys came out strong in the first half and only gave up one goal against Lake Park's strong attack. However we lost 6-0 after a windy second half. The freshman take on Morton on Monday to continue our conference play.
Week of September 21
Varsity - On Tuesday, we battled Addison Trail at their place as the sun set. It was a good game but we didn’t put away our chances, and AT did. Our only goal came from a very long service ball from Karel Ondra. Zach Duffy got up and flicked the ball in with his head. - On Thursday, we bounced back and played a complete 80 minutes against East Aurora. Although the first half ended 1-1, the game finished 8-2 in favor of HSHS Fútbol. Chris Metcalf was voted Man of the Match for his 3 goals and 2 assists. Also of note – both Ryan Wooten and Ryan Kuhlman put in two goals of their own. Zach Duffy scored a beautiful header off a Bart Majerczyk corner kick, Bart also assisted one of Kuhlman’s goals. A solid team win. - On Saturday, we showed how tired we were from the week as we lost to Plainfield East 5-2. Although we did not play well, Ryan Wooten scored two more nice goals – assisted by Chris Metcalf and Ryan Kuhlman.
JV This week the JV soccer team had three very difficult games against Addison Trail, East Aurora, and Plainfield East. In the game against East Aurora, the team received a goal from Zach De Los Monteros with an assist from Seweryn Ciskowski. Sebastian Moreno scored an unassisted goal in the game against Plainfield East. The team found success with a new formation that they will put into place for their games this upcoming week.
Freshman This week the Freshman Boys soccer team was busy with three games. First we played Hinsdale Central on Monday and despite a score of 3-0 at halftime we were about to hold central the second half with the final score of only 3-0. Then on Wednesday we played Willowbrook as our second conference game of the season. The boys played extremely well throughout most of the game and scored first with a goal by Jakub Matyskiewicz. Unfortunately we lost the lead and ended up losing 4-1. Then we took on Plainfield East on Saturday morning. The boys had a long week of soccer so the game Saturday did not go our way. We lost 6-1 but are hoping to bounce back from the loss tomorrow when we take on Leyden.
Week of September 14th
Varsity - We battled DGS for the Bell on Tuesday night. The first half, we played them tough but gave up a goal with 35 seconds left. Then, Chris Metcalf found the back of the net early in the second half. Unfortunately, DGS put two more goals in the back of the net as we buckled under the pressure. - We had our first team dinner on Friday thanks to the Lopez, Yurchak, Vessol, and Duffy families. - A group of 30 players, parents, and coaches went to the Chicago Fire game on Saturday night.
JV The JV soccer team lost their only game of the week 2-0 to Downers Grove South on Tuesday. We played well as a team, but were unable to beat their defense to work our way back into the game. Carlos Lopez and Dima Ehlers did a great job of helping to keep the defense organized. The team is preparing for three games next week.
Freshman This week the Freshman Boys soccer team played Downers Grove South, Glenbard West and Schaumburg Christian. On Monday we played DGS and despite a well-played first half and a goal by Chris Wayman late in the second half we lost 2-1. On Wednesday we lost to Glenbard West with a few players out due to injuries. On Friday we traveled out to Schaumburg to take on Schaumburg Christian High School and after a 30 minute rain delay got the game started. The boys came out very strong with about 5 shots on goal within the first 10 minutes of the game. Our defense played tremendously during the game and we ended the game with a 0-0 tie. The boys played extremely well and we are excited for next week to keep improving when we take on Hinsdale Central, Willowbrook, and Plainfield East.
Week of September 7th
Varsity After a tough loss to Willowbrook on Tuesday at home, the Hornets played well against a formidable Downer’s Grove North team on Thursday. Despite losing 2-0, the Hornets played a good brand of fútbol led by the man of the match Zach Duffy. John Cabrera earned man of the match against Willowbrook for playing out of his mind on defense. Then on Saturday, the Hornets came out with a purpose and battled a solid Glenbard West team for 79 minutes. With 35 seconds left, Ryan Wooten broke down the right side and crossed it to Ryan Kuhlman who found the back of the net for a dramatic finish. The two Ryans were voted men of the match.
JV This week, the JV soccer team lost games to Willowbrook and Glenbard West. Sebastian Moreno and Carlos Lopez both scored in the loss to Willowbrook. The team played Glenbard West tough in the 2nd half and will carry the positive play into our next game against Downers Grove South on Tuesday.
Freshman The Freshman Boys soccer team lost to Downers Grove North on Wednesday 4-2. The game started off evenly matched with no score for the first 15 minutes. North scored two goals, but we came back with a goal by Jakob Deszcz. The half ended 1-3 but we knew we were still in the game. During the second half the boys came out hungry and a goal by Chris Wayman sparked the team. The boys played much better offensively and defensively during the second half but unfortunately couldn't come back from the goals scored against them in the first half. We play our first conference game against Downers Grove South on Monday at 4:30 at home.
Week of August 31st
Varsity The Varsity squad bounced back in a strong performance against Chicago Christian. The Hornets won 8-0 in convincing fashion. Christian Lopez and Mykolas Meilus were voted players of the game. Not only did they defend the shutout but they also connected for a brilliant 8th and final goal. Lopez took a free kick from the left side of the field and Mick made a great back post run and finished it on the first touch. We take on Willowbrook on Tuesday hungry to stay undefeated at home.
JV The JV soccer team had one game this week beating Chicago Christian 2-0 on Tuesday. The game was tied 0-0 at halftime and the team created many chances to score in the second half. Patryk Klimaszewski put the team up 1-0 with an assist from Nikolay Ehlers. Sebastian Moreno scored on a pass from Mark Euske in the final minutes to give the team a 2-0 win.
Week of August 24th
Varsity Varisty HSHS Fútbol opened up the season with a convincing victory over Curie 4-0. It was a complete team victory. It was also awesome to see many alumni who came out for the first game.

We didn’t have a good showing at Benet on Thursday, losing 7-0. It was a complete team loss. We are looking to bounce back against Chicago Christian on Tuesday.
JV The JV soccer team started out their season with a 4-0 loss to Curie and 2-0 loss to Benet. They bounced back with a 5-2 victory over Providence Catholic. The team was led by Zac De Los Monteros who had 3 goals and an assist in the win. Maciek Chmielewski scored two goals and Carlos Lopez, Michael Ofei, Patryk Klimaszewski, and Matt Morawa each added an assist.
Freshman The Freshmen soccer team started out their season with an away game against Benet this past Wednesday. The team held off Benet’s constant attack during the first half with a score of 0-0 at half time. Despite the 3-0 loss at the end of the game the boys played well together. The team now has a chance to regroup before we take on Downers Grove North on Wednesday September 9th.
