Varsity Tommy Gneiser and Sam Johnson qualified for IHSA Sectional. Tommy Gneiser finished with a score of 75 with 3 birdies in his last 6 holes to finish in 11th place and qualify for the IHSA State Championship. Sam Johnson shot 41 on the front and finished with an 88.
Tommy Gneiser shot a two day score of 164 at state and finished in 52 place. It was a great way to finish a great season for the team and the MVP, Tommy Gneiser.
Week of September 25th
Varsity The Varsity Boys golf team competed in the Lemont 2A IHSA Regional tournament. The team finished 5th out of 9 teams. Medalist was Tommy Gneiser with a 75. Other scores that counted were Sam Johnson and Dominick Rallo with 88's and Devin Cabello with an 89.
Week of September 18th
Varsity The Hornets competed in the WSC gold division conference championship on Tuesday 9/19. The Hornets finished in 3rd place for the tournament and tied for 2nd overall in conference. The team medalist was Devin Cabello with a 78, Tommy Gneiser shot 79, other scores that counted were Brendan Savage and Nathan Ockrim with 91's.
Tommy and Devin both finished as all conference selections. Nathan Ockrim, Tom Remi, Matt Grace and Sam Johnson all finished the season academic all conference.
JV The last week of JV golf culminated with the Gold conference tournament at Bloomingdale golf club on Tuesday, where each school had six golfers compete in an 18 hole stroke play tournament. Under tough rainy conditions, the Hornets shot their best 18-hole team round of the year by shooting a combined four man score of 378, which led to a 2nd place tie in conference. The following six players golfed at conference (scores included): Braeden Koperski (92), Jerry Bauer (93), Ben Wyent (93), Davy O’Connor (100), Reilly Meeker (109), and Jack Bauer (115). This was a great ending to a JV golf season where the team displayed all of their hard work over a short period of time. Congratulations to the TEAM!
Week of September 11th
Varsity The Varsity boys golf team started the week with a victory over the Leyden Eagles on senior night at Carriage Greens golf course. The Hornets were led by seniors Tommy Gneiser(38), Sam Johnson(43) and Brendan Savage(45). Junior Devin Cabello chipped in with a 47 that also counted.
On Wednesday, the Hornets lost their first conference match of the season to DGS. Tommy Gneiser shot 40, Devin Cabello 42, Brendan Savage 45 and Dominic Rallo 47.
On Saturday the Hornets competed in the Naperville Central Invite. Tommy Gneiser finished 3rd overall with a season best 18 hole score of -2, 70. Other scores that counted, Dominic Rallo 83, Devin Cabello 87 and Ryan Salverredy with a 90.
JV On Tuesday the Hornets played against Leyden in a home match at Carriage Greens. They lost by a score of 192-219. The Hornets were led by Ben Wyent with a score of 49, as well as Braeden Koperski and Reilly Meeker who both shot 56.
The Hornets traveled to Village Greens to take on conference foe Downers Grove South. The Hornets shot well, but lost to a tough DGS team by a score of 181-200. The team was led by Braeden Koperski (45) and Ben Wyent (49). Davy O’Connor (52) and Jerry Bauer (54) also played well for the Hornets.
On Saturday, the Hornets traveled to Naperbrook golf course to participate in the Naperville Central four-team invite. Teams participating in the 18-hole event included Naperville Central, Wheaton North, Glenbard East, along with HSHS. The team took 3rd place out of four teams, and were led by Braeden Koperski (96) and Reilly Meeker (104). Others participating were Jerry Bauer, Jack Bauer, Carter D’Andrea, Patryk Moczarny, and Max Ouardi.
Week of September 4th
Varsity The Hornets Varsity Boys golf team had another good week.
On Wednesday, the boys lost to RB by a close margin of 156-164. The team was led by Tommy Gneiser and Devin Casey, both shooting 38's. Other scores that counted, Ryan Salverrdy 42 and Sam Rallo 46.
On Thursday, the Hornets took on the Mustangs of Morton. The team was victorious, moving their conference record to a perfect 4-0! Medalist was Tommy Gneiser with 39, Dominic Rallo shot a 42, Ryan Salvereddy and Brendan Savage both shot 44.
On Saturday the Hornets participated in the Providence Catholic Invite. The team was led by Tommy Gneiser with a 76. Other scores that counted were Sam Johnson 91, Devin Casey 96 and Dominic Rallo 102.
JV The Hornets had a home match against Riverside-Brookfield on Wednesday at Carriage Greens. The team just fell short of a victory in a competitive match by a score of 199-201. Top scores produced by the Hornets were Braeden Koperski (46), Jerry Bauer (47), and Davy O’Connor (51). Also competing were Colton Campbell, Patryk Moczarny, and Max Ouardi.
On Thursday, the JV squad took on Morton HS in conference play. The Hornets won by a score of 211 to 265. The team was led by Braeden Koperski (46), Jerry Bauer (48), and Carter D’Andrea (58). Other Hornets competing in the match were Jack Bauer, Reilly Meeker, and Joey Sisto.
On Saturday, the JV Hornets competed in the Willowbrook team scramble tournament (18 holes). The team shot a 66 (+2 over par) for the day. They placed 10th out of 13 teams on a beautiful day of weather, and had a great time playing together in a 5 man scramble format. Players competing were Braeden Koperski, Ben Wyent, Davy O’Connor, Jerry Bauer, and Jack Bauer.
Week of August 28th
Varsity The Hinsdale South boys golf team had a very successful week. It started on Tuesday 8/29 with a victory over conference rival Addison Trail. Once again, the Hornets were led by Tommy Gneiser with a 37, other scores that counted Ryan Salverredy 45, Devin Cabello 48 and Sam Johnson 49.
On Wednesday, 8/30 the team played Willowbrook and turned in some great scores that led to a 13 stroke victory. Devin Cabello was medalist with an even par 32, Ryan Salverredy had a 34, Tommy Gneiser 37 and Sam Johnson with a 43.
Thursday 8/31, had the Hornets traveling to Columbus Park to take on Proviso East. The team was led by Tommy Gneiser with a 37, Brendan Savage and Nathan Ockrim both had season bests 38's and the final score that counted was a very good 39 turned in by Matt Grace. The match was the third conference victory in a week! Nice work boys, record setting week!
JV On Tuesday, the Hornets took on Addison Trail in their first conference match of the season at Carriage Greens. The Hornets won the match by a score of 202-225. They were led by Braeden Koperski (47), Ben Wyent (51), and Jerry Bauer (51).
On Wednesday, the Hornets traveled to Sugar Creek golf course to take on conference opponent Willowbrook HS. Despite shooting 194 as a team score, they lost to Willowbrook who shot an impressive 161. Top Hornet scores were: Braeden Koperski (43), Jerry Bauer (44), and Reilly Meeker (51).
On Saturday, the Hornet golf team traveled to Arlington Lakes Golf Club to play in the Rolling Meadows JV golf tournament. The team took 15th place, with a tough field of competition for the 18 hole tournament. The team score was 411, and the Hornets were led by Braeden Koperski (98), Jerry Bauer (99), and Jack Bauer (104). Also competing for the Hornets were Reilly Meeker, Carter D’Andrea, and Ben Wyent.
Week of August 21st
Varsity It was a pretty quiet week for the Hornets, weather related cancellations led to one event. The Varsity golf team competed in the Mustang invite at Arlington lakes golf club. Tommy Gneiser was the medalist with a score of 79, Brendan Savage had a very good score of 80. Nathan Ockrim chipped in with a season best 86 and Devin Cabello finished with a 91. The team shot 336 and finished 8/13.
JV Majority of practices and matches were canceled due to the extreme heat. However, the Hornets were able to play in the Lockport Porters Cup tournament on Saturday. The team shot a score of 431 with a 17th place finish. The JV team was led by Jerry and Jack Bauer as a twosome. The tournament was an 18 hole round that consisted of six holes “best ball’, six holes “scramble”, and six holes “alternate shot” in a paired format. Other players who participated were Braeden Koperski, Ben Wyent, Davy O’Connor, Carter D’Andre, Patryk Moczarny, and Joey Sisto.
Week of August 14th
Varsity The first two weeks of the season have been very busy. First, we had the most boys tryout for golf in the last ten years. The competition to make the team was very intense. Tommy Gneiser, Dominic Rallo, Sam Rallo, Ryan Salverredy, Devin Casey, Brendan Savage, Tom Remi, Nathan Ockrim, Matt Grace, Devin Cabello and Sam Johnson make up the boys Varsity golf team 2023.
The boys participated in 4 matches last week, against some of the best programs in the state. Even though we did not come away with any victories, we improved our team score in each match.
On Monday 8/15 the Hornets played DGN in a dual match at the historical Belmont golf course in DG. The Hornets were led by Tommy Gneiser, who shot a 1 under par 35, which was the best score for either team. Other scores that counted, Dominic Rallo, Devin Casey and Ryan Salverredy.
Next the Hornets took on perennial 3A state power, Hinsdale Central, at Hinsdale country club. Once again, Tommy Gneiser led the way with a two over par 37, other scores that counted, Dominic Rallo, Ryan Salverredy and Devin Cabello.
The Hornets hosted the LT Lions at Carriage Greens on Wednesday, 8/17. Again, Tommy Gneiser led the way with a 37 and Ryan Salverredy, Devin Cabello and Sam Ralllo helped the Hornets to their best team score of the new season.
On Saturday, the Hornets played an 18 hole match vs. OEHS. It was an early start and it took a while for the boys to warm up. Tommy Gneiser led the way with a 78, other scores that counted were Ryan Salverredy, Brendan Savage and Matt Grace.
JV The JV Hornet squad opened up their season against Downers Grove North on Tuesday, at Downers Grove Country Club. The Hornets were defeated by a score of 184-263. The team was led by sophomores Davy O’Connor and Braeden Koperski with scores of 47 and 49. Other hornets who participated were: Ben Wyent, Jerry Bauer, Jack Bauer, and Joey Sisto.
On Wednesday, the Hornets faced a tough Hinsdale Central squad at Hinsdale Golf Club. The hornets lost 146-217. However, the team improved their total score from DGN a day ago by 46 shots! Leading scorers were Braeden Koperski (48) and Jerry & Jack Bauer (both 56’s). Freshman Colton Campbell (57) and Sophomore Carter D’Andrea (64) both made their season debuts, and Davy O’Connor shot a 59.
On Thursday, the Hornets played their first home match against Lyons Township at Carriage Greens. They lost their match with a score of 156-221. The Hornets were led by Jerry Bauer’s 52 and Braeden Koperski’s 54. Others participating included: Jack Bauer, Colton Campbell, Reily Meeker, Joey Sisto, Max Ouardi, and Nathan Bryant.
On Saturday, the Hornets traveled to Flagg Creek to play in a quad team tournament against LT, York, and DGS. LT won with a score of 143, York placed 2nd with a 155, DGS placed 3rd with a 160, and HS placed 4th with a score of 194 – Their best team score of the season so far! The team was led by Jerry Bauer and Ben Wyent who both shot 47. The Hornets completed four matches in five days against very tough competition that will ultimately prepare them for conference play!
