Varsity Tommy Gneiser had a fantastic end to his golf season. After qualifying for sectionals with an 82, he shot 5 strokes better on a more difficult golf course to qualify for the state tournament. Tommy hit his ball in the water on 15 and it seemed like his season was over. He somehow bounced back and finished even par on the 3 most difficult holes on the golf course. His ticket was punched for the state Championship golf tournament in Bloomington. Tommy played very well on the first day of the state tournament shooting 75. He birdied 3 of his final 6 holes on the back 9 to finish tied for 9th out of 112 golfers. The second day Tommy shot 81 and finished the tournament tied for 30th. Tommy's season was one of the best in Hinsdale South history! . Great job Tommy! Congratulations on a great year!
Week of September 26th
Varsity The Hornets hosted the IHSA regional. The team finished 6/7 in the toughest regional in the state. Tommy Gneiser qualified for Sectionals with an 82. Ryan Flynders had a season best 85 and was only two strokes away from qualifying. Joe Pantoni shot an 89 and Sam Johnson 92. Great job by all the boys that competed in regionals, Tommy Gnieser, Ryan Flynders, Joe Pantoni, Devin Cabello and Tom Remi.
Week of September 19th
Varsity The week the boys golf team competed in the WSC conference golf tournament. The Hornets played well and finished in 3rd place. 2nd in conference and medalist for the team was Tommy Gneiser with a great score of 75. Other scores that counted were Ryan Flyners 88, Devin Cabello 88 and Joe Pantoni 90.
JV The last week of JV golf culminated with the Gold conference tournament at Bloomingdale golf club, where each school had six golfers compete in an 18 hole stroke play tournament. The Hornets shot their best team round of the year by shooting a combined four man score of 368, which led to a 3rd place finish in conference. The exciting story of the tournament was the individual play from sophomore Ryan Salverrey, who shot 77 for his round. He ended up being the individual champion-medalist for the Gold Conference! Dominick Rallo was also a medalist with a score of 89, and took 8th place. Congratulations to Ryan & Dominick, and the rest of the Hornet JV team for a successful season of golf, which included consistent improvement over a short span of six weeks!
Week of September 12th
Varsity In a quiet week the Hornets had some good accomplishments. Tuesday 9/13 the team traveled to Bensenville to take on the Leyden Eagles. The boys were successful, beating the Eagles by a score of 166-195.The Hornets were led by Tommy Gneiser who was medalist with a score of 38. Other scores that counted were Ryan Flynders 41, Devin Cabello 41 and Joe Pantoni with a 46. The shot of the day was put in by Anthony Lavorato, who sunk a 75 foot putt!
On the weekend, the Hornets played in the Naperville Central invite at Naperbrook GC. The team was once again led by Tommy Gneiser with a 76. Other scores that counted were Ryan Flynders with a 90, Devin Cabello 90 and Sam Johnson 95.
JV On Tuesday, the Hornets took on the Leyden Eagles at White Pines golf club. The JV Hornets won the 9-hole match by a score of 193-245. They were led by Dom Rallo with an impressive score of 36 and Braeden Koperski with a 49.
On Saturday, the Hornets traveled to Springbrook golf course to play in an 18-hole quad match against a very competitive field including Naperville Central, Glenbrook South, and Providence Catholic HS. The Hornets took 4th place, and were led by Dom Rallo (92) and Ryan Salverredy (102). Other JV Hornets competing were Braeden Koperski, Ben Wyent, and Jerry Bauar.
Week of September 5th
Varsity On Tuesday 9/6 the Hornets traveled to Brookfield to take on the RB Bulldogs, at beautiful Riverside Country Club. The team lost by a single stroke in a very tight match. The medalist was Joe Pantoni with a 45, other scores that counted, Tommy Gneiser 48, Ryan Flynders 48 and Sam Johnson 48.
Thursday 9/8 the Hornets took on the Mustangs of Morton at Fresh Meadows. The Hornets pulled off a big victory with a score of 159-209. Leading the way were Devin Cabello with a 35, Tommy Gneiser with a 37, Ryan Flynders with a 42 and Sam Johnson with a 45.
On Saturday 9/10 the Hornets played in the Providence invitational. The team shot a 342 and were led by medalist Tommy Gneiser with a 78. Devin Cabello shot a season low 79, Ryan Flynders 92 and Connor Wyent 93 rounded out the 4 scores. The Hornets finished 20/25 in a very good field.
JV On Tuesday, the Hornets traveled to Riverside Country Club to take on Riverside-Brookfield. The JV lost by a score of 188-214. They were led by Devin Cabello (39), Jeffy Bauar (46), and Ryan Salverredy (47).
On Thursday, the Hornets had a conference away match with Morton at Fresh Meadow golf course. The Hornet’s played their best match of the year so far, and had a winning score of 179-264. The Hornets were led by Dom Rallo (38), Ryan Salverredy (42), and Noah Zabinski (48).
Week of August 29th
Varsity The Hornets had a productive week on the golf course. On Tuesday 8/30 the Varsity golf team lost a close match against AT. The medalist was Tommy Gneiser with a 41. Other scores that counted were Joe Pantoni 46, Brendan Savage 48, Ryan Flynders 49 and Sam Johnson 49.
On Thursday, we paid tribute to our Seniors and beat Proviso East. Medalist was Ryan Flynders 29. Other scores that counted, Joe Pantoni 33, Connor Wyent 37 and Lukas Krapukaitis 38.
The Hornets finished the week competing in the Willowbrook scramble. The 5 man team of Tommy Gneiser, Joe Pantoni, Nathan Ockrim, Ryan Flynders and Connor Wyent. The team had a lot of fun and finished 6 under par, which was good enough for 6th place.
JV On Tuesday, the Hornets travel to Salt Creek Golf Club to take on Addison Trail in conference play. The Hornets won the match by a score of 199-207. They were led by Ryan Salverredy (41), Dom Rall (51), and Noah Zabinski (52).
On Thursday, the Hornets won by forfeit against Proviso East at Zigfield Troy golf course.
On Saturday, the Hornet golf team traveled to Arlington Lakes Golf Club to play in the Rolling Meadows JV golf tournament. The team took 14th place out of 16 teams, which had a lot of tough competition. The team score was 400, and the following players competed: Dom Rallo, Braeden Koperski, Jerry Bauar, Noah Zabinski, and Davie O’Connor.
Week of August 22nd
Varsity The Hinsdale South boys Varsity golf team took the momentum from their end of the week victory and carried it over to week 2. On Tuesday 8/23 the Hornets took on the Warriors of Willowbrook at Carriage Greens. Tommy Gneiser shot a season low 3 under 33 to be medalist. Ryan Flynders, Joe Pantoni and Devin Cabello all scored 3 over 38's to lead the Hornets to victory. The team score of 147 was a season low as well.
The next day the Hornets took on DGS in a dual match at Carriage Greens. The momentum fizzled and the Hornets lost a tough match to a good team. Tommy Gneiser was again Medalist for the Hornets with a 41. Other scores that counted were Joe Pantoni, Sam Johnson and Brendan Savage.
On Saturday 8/27 the Hornets played in the Rolling Meadows invite at Arlington Lakes golf course. The team was led by Tommy Gneiser who carded a 76 and finished in 14th place for the second year in a row. Other scores that counted were Devin Cabello 84, Brendan Savage 86 and Joe Pantoni, Ryan Flynders and Sam Johnson with 88.
JV On Tuesday, the Hornets had their first conference match against Willowbrook at Carriage Greens Golf Course. Despite shooting their lowest score of the season to date (201), they lost to Willowbrook by ten shots. Top Hornet scores were: Dom Rallo (41), Braeden Koperski (50), Jerry Bauar (52), and Noah Zabinski (58).
On Wednesday, the Hornets faced conference rival DGS at home. They lost 163-237 against a tough mustangs team. The Hornets were led by Ben Wyent, Noah Zabinski, and Jerry Bauar.
On Saturday, the Hornets traveled to Lockport to play in the eighteen team Porter Cup at Woodruff golf course. The Hornets battled hard, but ended up placing in the bottom quarter of teams in a competitive tournament with a combined team score of 411. Despite the long day of eighteen holes, the Hornets had a fun time playing in the dynamic tournament that involved three scoring formats (best ball, scramble, and alternate shot). The top scoring duo for the Hornets was Dom Rallo and Braeden Koperski with a score of 91.
Week of August 15th
Varsity Typically, the boys Varsity golf team had a rough first week of the season. Most of that was due to the difficult preseason schedule. We played very good DGN, Hinsdale Central, OPRF and LT golf teams. We improved throughout the week, but could not bring home a victory. The team was led by Tommy Gneiser, who was the Hinsdale South medalist in every match. Other players that played well were Devin Cabello, Ryan Flynders, Joe Pantoni, Sam Johnson and Brendan Savage.
The boys ended the first week on a high note, beating OEHS in an 18 hole match, 336-360. The overall medalist was Ryan Flynders with an impressive 78. Other scores that counted were Tommy Gneiser, 82, Joe Pantoni,85 and Nathan Ockrim, 92.
We are looking forward to starting the conference season next week.
JV The JV Hornet squad opened up their season against Downers Grove North on Monday, at Downers Grove Country Club. The Hornets were defeated by a score of 179-255. The team was led by sophomore Dominic Rallo with a score of 48. Other golfers participating included: Ryan Salverredy, Braeden Koperski, Noah Zabinski, Owen Cranley, and Davy O’Connor.
On Tuesday, the Hornets faced a tough Hinsdale Central squad at Carriage Greens. The hornets lost 151-218. However, the team improved their total score from DGN a day ago by 37 shots! Leading scorers were Dominic Rallo (49) and Noah Zabinski (52). A few freshmen also played their first matches including Ben Wyent and Zach Bolte.
On Wednesday, the JV Hornets played Oak Park River Forest at Carriage Greens. They lost 176-222. A few freshmen Hornets got to play their first match including Jerry Bauar and Patryk Moczarny.
On Thursday, the Hornets went on the road to play Lyons Township at Flagg Creek. They lost their match with a score of 148-204. However, the Hornets shot their best team score so far, and were led by Dominic Rallo (47), Braeden Koperski (49), Ryan Salvereddy (52), and Ben Wyent (56).
On Saturday, the Hornets went back to Flagg Creek to play in a tri-squad squad tournament against LT and York. LT won with a score of 159, York placed 2nd with a 163, and HS shot 220. The Hornets completed five matches in six days against very tough competition that will ultimately prepare them for conference play!
