Sophomore Thursday, Febraury 19th - Sophomore Hornets drop their final game of the season against Lemont 36-50. In the first quarter, Nico Menotti sparked the Hornets with a great rip-drive through the lane for a layup. A back and forth 1st quarter, led to an early competitive game. Some costly turnovers and defensive lapses in the second half, led to our defeat. Seven different Hornets scored in the game.
Kosta Polizois leads all scorers with 12 points. Nathan Navarro and John Molina each score 7 points.
Sophomore Hornets finish the season with a record of 13-17 and a record of 7-5 in conference play.
Each player on this team bought in and consistently got better every day. The future is bright for the Hornets!

Freshman B Tuesday, February 17th - The freshmen b hornets lost a close one to rivals DGS on Tuesday by a score of 38-33. This was a back and forth game throughout but the mustangs made a few for plays in the end. This was a much improved team from the beginning of the season and these hornets can take that improvement with them into next season. They finish 6-20 overall and 4-8 in conference.

Varsity Tuesday, February 10th - The Hinsdale South squad battled hard at home against Evergreen Park but came up short in a 50-40 defeat, bringing their season record to 8-20. Despite the final score, the team showed great fight throughout the contest, with several players stepping up to deliver clutch performances when their team needed it most.
The game featured multiple lead changes in the early going, with Hinsdale South jumping out to a 5-2 advantage after Hamza Truttling's opening three-pointer and a basket from Nas Yakub. Saturday, February 14th - Hinsdale South faced a tough test on the road against Willowbrook, ultimately falling 76-46 in a hard-fought contest. Despite the challenging final score, the team showed resilience and continued to battle throughout all four quarters, with several players stepping up to contribute valuable scoring. This brings the team's record to 8-21 as they continue to gain experience and improve their game.
Willowbrook came out firing early, jumping to a 17-6 lead after the first quarter with a dominant 6-0 run to start the game. However, the Hornets responded with some clutch three-point shooting, as Niko Therapos knocked down his first triple of the night and Louie Dusek answered with a three-pointer of his own to keep the team competitive. The second quarter saw an impressive offensive surge from the Hornets, with Therapos connecting on another three-pointer, followed by consecutive three-pointers from Jashan Tvelil and Kalen Tonaka that helped cut into the deficit.

Sophomore Tuesday, Frebruary 10th - Sophomore Hornets played their last home game of the year against Evergreen Park High School and defeated the Mustangs 36-24. After a rough shooting performance in the first half, your Hornets came out in the second half ready to shoot. Joe Velazuez hit two threes back-to-back and John Molina hit a big three in the corner as well. To start the fourth quarter, Kaelan Tanaka (freshman) hit a long-range three to put us in a commanding lead. Your Hornets had a shutout fourth quarter while picking up our defensive intensity. Joe Velazquez leads the way with nine points, John Molina adds 8 points, and Kosta Polizois contributes 7 points. The victory moves us to 13-14 overall and a conference record of 7-3.
Freshman A Tuesday, February 10th - The Hornets defeated Evergreen Park by a score of 45-26 on Tuesday. A close game at the end of the first quarter, the Hornets pulled away with a 14-3 second quarter advantage and never looked back. The Hornets were led by some balanced scoring, including Josh Andrzejewski with 10 points, Jaylen Lee with 8, Khi Myles-Levi and Collin Bills with 7, and J.J. Bodik with 6. The Hornets are now 12-14 on the season.
Saturday, February 14th - The Hornets fell to Willowbrook by a score of 55-46 on Saturday. The Hornets held a 5 point halftime lead but struggled to handle a tough Willowbrook press in the second half. Collin Bills led with 15 points, Khi Myles-Levi scored 11, and Josh Andrzejewski had 8. The Hornets are now 12-15, 6-5 in the WSC Gold.
Freshman B Saturday, February 14th - The freshmen b hornets put up a STOUT fight against the Willowbrook warriors on Saturday night but lost in overtime 39-36. After erasing an 11 point deficit at half the hornets tied the game and took the lead in overtime before surrendering it for the loss. The hornets are 6-19 overall and 4-8 in conference.

Sophomore Tuesday, February 3rd - Sophomore Hornets traveled to St. Laurence and were defeated 33-51. The Vikings came out hot making multiple layups in consecutive possessions and getting to the free-throw line. They also made their first two 3 point attempts as well. A bright spot for our Hornets is that 8 different players tallied points for us. Nathan Navarro, 8 points, led the way for the Hornets and has continued his strong performances this past month. Joe Velazquez knocked down 2 threes and finished with 7 points. John Molina scored 6 points. We play at Addison Trail on Friday to continue conference play.
Friday, February 6th - Sophomore Hornets drop a conference game to Addison Trail 47-48 on a late game three. John Molina led the way with 15 points. Nate Navarro contributed 10 points. Kosta Polizois added 6. The loss moves us to 7-3 in conference play. We are back at it tomorrow at St. Viator.
Freshman A Tuesday, February 3rd -The Hornets fell to a talented St Laurence team by a score of 27-24 on Tuesday. South played the game at its own pace, and a back and forth game saw the Hornets control the game on the defensive end. South ultimately had a chance to tie the game at the end but did not get a shot off in the closing seconds. If the Hornets can control the pace of games like they did today, that will bode well for them down the final stretch of the year. Josh Andrzejewski led with 10 points and Mesfin Diedrich added 7.
Friday, February 6th - The Hornets defeated conference opponent Addison Trail by a score of 44-33 on the road on Friday. A cold start saw the Hornets in a close game with an opponent that they had defeated soundly earlier in the year. The Hornets pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure a conference victory. Jaylen Lee led with 17 points, Khi Myles-Levi scored 9, and Armaan Setia and J.J. Bodik added 5 each. The Hornets are now 10-14, 6-4 in conference.
Saturday, February 7th - The Hornets defeated St. Viator by a score of 42-40. A very close game throughout saw the Hornets pull out a very clutch victory. Josh Andrzejewski scored a game-winning layup at the buzzer to seal the Hornets victory. Collin Bills led the Hornets with 14 points and Andrzejewski scored 10. The Hornets are now 11-14 with two weeks remaining in the season.
Freshman B Tuesday, Febraury 3rd - The hornets fought well against St Laurence but ultimately came up short by a score of 34-32. This was a case of learning how to finish close games as Hinsdale South found itself in a rare situation down the stretch. Hinsdale South is 4-18 overall and 3-7 in conference.
Friday, Febraury 6th - The hornets picked up another conference win against Addison trail high school with a score of 41-37. It got a little close for comfort at the end, but smooth shooting behind Marshawn Brewster helped elevate the hornets to a win. Hinsdale South is now 5-18 overall and 4-7 in conference.
Saturday, February 7th - The hornets got a big win on the road against St Viator on Saturday afternoon by a score of 47-29. Big wins like this has not come easy this year for Hinsdale South but the all around team effort delivered, ad the hornets are now 6-18 overall and 4-7 in conference.

DGS came out firing early, jumping to a 7-0 lead before Jon Greenwood broke the ice with a solid two-point field goal to get the Hornets on the scoreboard. The visitors extended their advantage to 16-4 by the end of the first quarter, but Hinsdale South responded with energy in the second period. Sophomore Tuesday, January 27th - Sophomore Hornets lose to a very good Lyons Township team by a score of 29-54. A close game with about 2 minutes left in the 1st quarter, some costly turnovers then and throughout the game led to our defeat. A second-half surge, helped cut the Lions lead, but ultimately we fell short. Kaelan Tanaka drew a charge in the game. Nate Laskowski leads the way with 7 points and Joe Velazquez and Kosta Polizois added 6 points each.
We continue conference play on Friday against Leyden and look to improve to 6-2 in conference play. SOUTH PRIDE
Friday, January 30th - Sophomore Hornets move to 6-2 in conference play after beating Leyden 62-47. Leyden had a 2 point lead going into half, but your Hornets settled in and started moving the ball. Multiple players drew charges in the game. Nine different players scored in the game. Nate Navarro set the tone with his defense throughout the whole game and ended with 20 points. Joe Velazquez was hot from the arc, making 3 threes. Nate Laskowski and John Molina each chip in 7 points. Vijay Panicker made a three and got fouled and drilled the free throw for a four point play. We are back at home tomorrow for another conference match up against Willowbrook.
Freshman A Tuesday, January 27th - The Hornets fell to Lyons Township by a score of 50-32 on Tuesday. After a cold start, the Hornets played with a ton of effort to keep the game from getting out of hand. Josh Andrzejewski led with 10 points and Collin Bills added 7. The Hornets are now 9-11 on the season
Friday, January 30th - The Hornets fell to Leyden by a score of 44-39 on Friday night on the road. A close game throughout, neither team led by more than 6 all game. The Hornets had a chance to tie the game down three with under 10 seconds left, but couldn’t get the tying look to go. Tyler Beringer led with 8 points, and Collin Bills and Mesfin Diedrich scored 7 each. The Hornets are now 9-12, 5-3 in conference.
Saturday, January 31st - The Hornets lost a close one to Willowbrook, 51-48 on Saturday. The Hornets played extremely hard and again found themselves in a tight game that went right down to the wire. The Hornets had two great looks to tie the game in the final 15 seconds but couldn’t them to fall. Josh Andrzejewski led with 14 points, Khi Myles-Levi scored 10, Collin Bills had 8, and Jaylen Lee had 7. The Hornets are now 9-13, 5-4 in conference.
Freshman B Tuesday, January 27th - The freshmen b hornets lost 55-24 on Tuesday night to Lyons Township in a game that was close at half but the Lions just had too many answers for the hornets in the second half. Marshawn Brewster helped put the hornets in the lead early and for much of the first quarter, but the shooting cooled off down the stretch for everyone and LT was able to pull away. Hinsdale South is now 3-16 overall and 2-6 in conference.
Friday, January 30th - Hinsdale South broke the losing streak on Friday night with a win against the Leyden Eagles in Franklin Park by a score of 36-22. Some solid defense overall and consistent scoring by Ken Hubbard helped the hornets offensively as they grabbed their first win on the road against the eagles in several years. Saturday, January 31st - The hornets took awhile to get going on Saturday afternoon against Willowbrook and that early deficit cost them, as Hinsdale South lost 36-23. There wasn’t much to say with regards to scoring but the hornet pressure turned over the warriors several times but couldn’t capitalize. Hinsdale South is 4-17 overall and 3-7 in conference
Week of January 19th
Varsity Tuesday, January 20th - The Hinsdale South squad battled hard at home against Downers Grove South but came up short in a 54-43 contest, bringing their season record to 7-14. Despite the loss, the team showed resilience and fighting spirit throughout the four quarters, with several players stepping up to contribute meaningful minutes and production.
The game started as a back-and-forth affair in the first quarter, with Noah Therapos leading the charge early. After Downers Grove South jumped out to a 3-0 lead, Therapos quickly answered with a three-pointer to tie the game, then followed with another triple to give his team a brief 6-5 advantage. The quarter ended with the team trailing just 10-8, as Therapos poured in 6 points to keep pace with the visitors. However, Downers Grove South began to pull away in the second and third quarters, using a pair of scoring streaks to build their lead - first a 6-point run in the second quarter, then a 7-point surge to start the third that extended their advantage to 27-14.

Louie Dusek and Kareem Esily each chipped in 6 points, with Esily shooting an impressive 75% from the field on 3-4 shooting. Jashan Tvelil added 5 points including a perfect 2-for-2 performance from the free-throw line, while Niko Therapos contributed a clutch three-pointer in the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter showcased the team's never-quit attitude, as they continued to battle despite the deficit. JV Saturday, January 24th - The Hinsdale South JV squad put up a tremendous fight in a thrilling home matchup against Willowbrook, ultimately falling just short in a heartbreaking 39-38 defeat. Despite the narrow loss that moves their record to 1-2, the team showed incredible resilience and determination throughout four quarters of back-and-forth basketball that had fans on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer.
The game started perfectly for the Hornets, as they stormed out to a commanding 10-0 lead in the first quarter. Kaelen Tonaka got things rolling with an early two-pointer, followed by Simus Mockus draining a three-pointer and Jon Greenwood converting two free throws. Nathan Navaro capped off the early surge with a clutch three-pointer. However, Willowbrook responded with their own 10-0 run to tie the game at 10-10 by the end of the first quarter, setting the stage for an intense battle.
The second quarter featured spectacular shooting performances, particularly from Mockus, who dominated the period with two magnificent three-pointers as part of his outstanding 15-point, 5-for-11 shooting night that included an impressive 5-for-11 from beyond the arc. Tonaka also contributed a crucial three-pointer during this stretch, finishing with 10 points on efficient 3-for-5 shooting and perfect 2-for-2 free throw shooting. The teams remained deadlocked 19-19 at halftime, with neither squad able to gain a decisive advantage.
Hinsdale South faced their biggest challenge in the third quarter when Willowbrook built an 11-point lead, but the team's character shone through in the fourth quarter comeback attempt. Mockus continued his stellar play with another three-pointer, while Tonaka and Greenwood made crucial shots down the stretch. Greenwood finished with 5 points despite shooting struggles, showing great determination at the free throw line. The final seconds saw Tonaka calmly sink two free throws to pull within one point, demonstrating the poise and skill this young team continues to develop. While the final score didn't go their way, this competitive effort against a strong opponent shows tremendous promise for the games ahead.
Sophomore Tuesday, January 20th - Sophomore Hornets battle Downers Grove South and win an overtime thriller 54-51. The victory moves us to 5-2 in conference. Kaelan Tanaka started the game for us taking two charges in the first 4 minutes of the game. Overall, the team drew 5 total charges. Down as many as 10 in the second half, your Hornets never stopped fighting. A scoring surge from John Moling (17 points), he took over the game slicing through the defense and making some difficult layups. Nathan Navarro made a clutch layup and foul in regulation to put us up one. In overtime, the Mustangs scored an early layup, putting them up two. After a heady play by Kaelan Tanaka, to break free at the top of the key, he looks back at his defender and pulls up for a three-pointer, which was nothing but net. John Molina sealed the deal, securing a missed free throw on the defensive end and making his 2 free throws to put us up three. Seven total Hornets scored in the game. A GREAT TEAM WIN!
Freshman A Tuesday, January 20th - The Hornets fell to Downers South Tuesday by a score of 43-26. A tie game at half flipped rapidly in DGS’s favor in the second half due to some very hot shooting. Jaylen Lee led with 15 points, going 11/16 from the FT line. Josh Andrzejewski added 6. The Hornets move to 9-10, 5-2 in the WSC Gold.
Freshman B Tuesday, January 20th -The freshmen b hornets played one of their finest games of the season but ultimately came up short vs rivals DGS by a score of 42-36. Marshawn Brewster les the scoring with 18 and Kenny Hubbard was perfect from the line to help on offense. The hornets are 3-15 overall and 2-6 in conference.

Varsity Tuesday, January 13th - Hinsdale South delivered an outstanding performance at home, dominating Proviso East 58-39 to improve their record to 6-12. The team showcased exceptional shooting and teamwork throughout the contest, building a commanding lead and never letting up on their way to a convincing 19-point victory. This lead was largely maintained thanks to holding the Pirates under 10 points for 3/4 quarters.
The game got off to a competitive start with several lead changes in the first quarter. After Proviso East jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage, Noah Therapos quickly answered with a three-pointer to give South their first lead at 3-2. The teams traded baskets before South began to pull away, with Noah Therapos leading the charge by scoring 6 points in the opening quarter to help establish a 13-9 advantage. The second quarter saw the Hornets extend their lead behind strong play from Jashan Tvelil and Maurice Oglesby, taking a 21-16 lead into halftime.
The third quarter was where Hinsdale South truly seized control of the game, outscoring Proviso East significantly to build a commanding 39-22 lead. Niko Therapos was spectacular during this stretch, hitting back-to-back three-pointers as part of a personal 6-point scoring run that helped blow the game open. His efficient shooting continued all night as he finished 3-for-4 from beyond the arc and 3-for-4 overall from the field for 9 points.
Maurice Oglesby dominated the fourth quarter, particularly from the free-throw line where he was nearly perfect at 7-for-8 for the game. His aggressive play helped seal the victory as he led all scorers with 15 points on efficient 4-for-6 shooting. Noah Therapos also had an excellent night, contributing 12 points while shooting 50% from three-point range (3-for-6), and Jashan Tvelil provided a spark off the bench with 6 points on outstanding 2-for-3 shooting from deep. The team showed tremendous resilience and clutch shooting throughout the game, particularly in the crucial fourth quarter when they outscored Morton 20-15 to secure the win.
The game featured multiple lead changes and exciting momentum swings. the Hornets jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage behind Niko Therapos, who opened the scoring with back-to-back buckets including a three-pointer. Sophomore Sophomore Hornets pick up another conference win against Proviso East, improving their conference record to 4-1 (8-9 overall). After a slow start, Dustin Chiovetti came off the bench and sparked us defensively with constant ball pressure and stunting in gaps. Proviso East played a 1-3-1 all game, and once we got into a groove, we were able to pick it apart. After 3 quarters, your Hornets were up 44-27. EIGHT different players scored in the game. Leading scorer, Kosta Polizois scored 12, Kaelan Tanaka added 11, and John Molina had 9. Nate Laskowski took a CHARGE. We play another conference game on Friday at Morton.

Freshman A The Hornets got back in the win column with a 56-30 win over Proviso East on Tuesday. The Hornets got out to an early lead, but got a bit complacent before half, keeping the game as single digit one. After half, the Hornets exploded for a 24 point quarter to push the lead to 25 at the end of the third. Jaylen Lee led the Hornets with 20 points, and Collin Bills and Josh Andrzejewski had 8 each. The Hornets are now 8-8, 4-1 in the WSC Gold.
The Hornets notched another conference win against Morton on Friday night, winning 41-37. The Hornets got some revenge on the road, as Morton took the first matchup of the year by 18 points. A resilient Hornet team played their game, taking care of the ball and getting great looks around the basket. Collin Bills led the Hornets with 13 points, Josh Andrzejewski scored 8, and Khi Myles-Levi and Jaylen Lee scored 6 each. The Hornets are now 9-8, 5-1 in the West Suburban Gold!

Jaylen Lee led with 8 points and Collin Bills scored 7. South is back at .500, taking on conference foes Downers Grove South and Willowbrook in the next week.

Niko Therapos connected from beyond the arc to give his team their first lead at 6-5, followed immediately by Devin Shah's three-pointer that extended the advantage to 9-5. The team continued to roll with contributions from the bench, as Simas Mockus added another three-pointer to close the first quarter with a commanding 12-7 lead.
The second quarter belonged to Devin Shah and the balanced South attack. Shah started the period with another three-pointer and finished the half with 8 points on efficient 2-of-3 shooting from deep while going perfect from the free-throw line. Louie Dusek (3-of-7 field goals, 3-of-4 free throws) and Jonathan Greenwood (perfect 2-of-2 from the field) also contributed key baskets as the team built an impressive 26-11 halftime lead. Sophomore Tuesday, January 6th - Sophomore Hornets defeat Morton HS moving to 3-1 in conference w/ a score of 47-30. A close game at half with the Hornets up 1, 19-18, we came out in second half and amped up our defense. We held Morton to only 12 points in the second half. An all out defensive battle, players boxing out, taking charges and communicating. Key free throws late in the game solidified the victory, as a team we went 11/14 on the line in the fourth. FOUR Hornets took charges in the game! Joe Velazquez leads all scorers w/ 14 pts, Kaelan Tanaka adds 14 pts & John Molina w/ 6 pts.

Saturday, January 10th - Sophomore Hornets drop a non-conference game to Plainfield North 28 - 34. Offensively, nothing was working for your Hornets. We missed our first 6 shots of the game. Down seven at half time, there was a defensive jolt from the Hornets, specifically John Molina, who came off the bench and brought energy. Molina led all scorers with 8 points for the game and had the game tied at one point. Joe Velazquez and Kosta Polizois each chip in 4 points. We start back up with conference play on Tuesday at home vs. Proviso East.
Freshman A Tuesday, January 6th - The Hornets suffered their first conference loss against Morton 53-35 on Tuesday. The Hornets could not shake off a rough start, and Morton made the Hornets pay by hitting some big time shots. Jaylen Lee led with 10 points and Josh Andrzejewski scored 9.
Saturday, January 10th - The Hornets fell to Plainfield North 54-34 on Saturday. South shot the ball well in the first half, keeping pace with the Tigers, but were ultimately outmatched in the second half, including a 12-2 fourth quarter in favor of North. Jaylen Lee led with 11 points and Mesfin Diedrich scored 6.
Freshman B Tuesday, January 6th - The freshmen hornets put up a spirited effort vs the Morton mustangs on Tuesday but ultimately came up short losing 38-23. The game was mostly close throughout but ultimately some untimely turnovers cost the hornets in the end. Julian Perez provided a strong middle against the zone in this one and was a standout for that reason. The Hornets are 3-10 overall and 2-2 in conference.
Saturday, January 10th - The freshmen b hornets played a spirited game against Plainfield North but ultimately lost 36-19 on Saturday afternoon. Once again the defense was very solid for the hornets but they continue to struggle scoring the ball. TJ Schnitker led the scoring with 7. The Hornets are 3-11 overall and 2-2 in conference.
Week of December 29th
Varsity Monday, December 29th - The Hornets faced a tough challenge on the road against Lake Forest, ultimately falling 44-29 in a hard-fought battle that moves their record to 3-10. Despite the final score, the team showed resilience and determination throughout the contest, with several players stepping up to make significant contributions on the offensive end.
Lake Forest came out firing early, jumping to a 9-0 lead to start the game before Noah Therapos got his team on the board with the first of his five three-pointers. The visitors found themselves trailing 13-5 after the opening quarter, but they responded with renewed energy in the second period. Therapos connected from beyond the arc again, and Maurice Oglesby joined the three-point party to help cut the deficit to just two points at 13-11, showing great fight against the home team's early momentum.
The third quarter proved challenging as Lake Forest went on an impressive 19-point scoring run, but Therapos refused to let his team fade away. Tuesday, December 30th - Hinsdale South showed tremendous heart and determination in their away matchup against Yorkville, ultimately falling 61-45 despite some spectacular individual performances. The team now stands at 3-11 as they continue to build chemistry and develop their skills throughout the season.

Sophomore Sophomore Hornets drop a non-conference game to Buffalo Grove 40-49. Tied at 22 a piece, shots did not fall for us. The game was back and forth throughout. Down 6, Joe Velazquez hit back iron on a 3. Some late fouls to get the ball back resulted in the 9 point deficit. Kaelan Tanaka leads all scorers w/ 9 points, Joe Velazquez, Kosta Polizois, and Nate Laskowski each chip in 7 points.

Varsity Friday, December 26th - Hinsdale South faced a tough challenge in the first game of the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic against Glenbard East, falling 66-43 in a game that showcased some impressive individual shooting performances despite the final result. The team now stands at 3-8 on the season, but there were plenty of bright spots to build upon from this away contest.
Glenbard East jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, but the South squad showed resilience with some clutch three-point shooting. After falling behind 2-0, Niko Therapos got the team on the board with an early three-pointer to briefly take a 3-2 lead. When Glenbard East went on a 10-point scoring streak to extend their advantage to 19-6, Jashan Tvelil provided a spark off the bench with back-to-back three-pointers to close the first quarter on a positive note.
The offensive fireworks continued in the second quarter, with Jashan Tvelil leading the charge. He dominated the period with 8 points, including another pair of three-pointers that demonstrated his excellent shooting touch. Tvelil finished the game as the team's leading scorer with 14 points on outstanding efficiency, connecting on 5 of 8 field goals and an impressive 4 of 6 three-point attempts. Niko Therapos also had a strong showing, contributing 12 points while shooting 4-5 from beyond the arc for an exceptional 80% three-point percentage.

JV Hinsdale South JV battled hard in a thrilling road contest against Hinsdale Central, ultimately falling just short in a heartbreaking 42-41 defeat. The loss moves South JV to 1-1 on the season, but this nail-biting game showcased tremendous heart and resilience from the entire squad.
The game featured multiple lead changes and momentum swings that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The Hornets got off to a strong start behind Kareem Esily's early scoring, building leads of 5-2 and 7-4 in the opening minutes. However, Hinsdale Central answered with their own runs, including a crucial 6-point streak that gave them a 21-18 advantage. South showed great character by responding with clutch plays, including a game-tying three-pointer from Devin Shah that knotted the score at 23-23.
Kareem Esily led the way offensively with an outstanding 12-point performance, shooting an impressive 55% from the field (6-11). Devin Shah provided crucial outside shooting, contributing 11 points while connecting on 3 of 4 three-point attempts (75%). His back-to-back three-pointers late in the game, including a 6-point personal scoring streak, helped The Hornets take a 35-33 lead and demonstrated his ability to rise to the occasion in pressure moments.
Despite holding a 41-36 advantage late in the contest, Hinsdale Central mounted a final 6-point run that proved to be the difference. Jon Greenwood (6 points on 60% shooting) and the supporting cast of Simus Mockus and Hamza Truttling all made valuable contributions throughout the game. While the one-point loss stings, Hinsdale South showed they can compete with anyone and have plenty of reasons to be optimistic moving forward.
Sophomore Sophomore Hornets go 2-2 in the Lincoln Way Central Holiday Tournament. Your Hornets fell to Kankakee 34-37 in the consolation championship.
Game 1 - loss to Glenbard North 26-38. A hectic zone was played all game and our boys struggled to find the basket. Although, your Hornets were only down three with about 3 minutes to play. Kosta Polizois led all scorers with 9 points. Joe Velazquez adds 6.
Game 2 - victory against Oak Forest 55-30 Our defense was on point in this one causing a ton of turnovers. 7 different Hornets scored in the game. Hot shooting from Kosta Polizois, Joe Velazquez and Kavi Patel. John Molina played great defense and had a ton of steals and added 9 points. Kosta Polizois leads all scorers with 18 points.
Game 3 - victory against Bloom 44-43 Hornets win a nail biter in this game to put us in the consolation championship. This was the Kaelan Tanaka game shooting 7 of 8 from the three point line. He led all scorers with 23 points and handled ball pressure all game. Joe Velazquez adds 8 points
Game 4 - loss to Kankakee 34-37 Sophomore Hornets lose to a very physical and athletic Kankakee team 34-37. We held a lead for a good part of the game. Ultimately their pressure and press led to us turning the ball over during costly times. Joe Velazquez and Kavi Patel each with 8 points. Kosta Polizois leads the way in this one with 12 points. The loss moves us to an overall record of 6-7.

Freshman A Monday, December 22nd -The Hornets defeated Glenbard East by a score of 23-19 to open up the Seamus Brennan Holiday Tournament at Hinsdale South. A low-scoring affair throughout, the Hornets persevered through a poor shooting day with some stellar defense and clutch moments to hold off a Glenbard East comeback. Mesfin Diedrich and Collin Bills led with 9 points each! The Hornets improve to 7-3 and move on to the second round of the tournament.
Tuesday, December 23rd - The Hornets fell to Oswego East by a score of 56-33 in the second round of the Holiday Tournament. Oswego East jumped out to a quick 22-3 lead, but the Hornets fought back to keep the game competitive until a fourth quarter surge by Oswego East put the game away. Mo Banian led with 12 points against a tough defense.
Friday, December 26th - The Hornets fell to Brother Rice by a score of 42-27 on Friday. Another slow start had the Hornets playing from behind, but South cut the lead to 4 points at halftime. Josh Andrzejewski led with 15 points and Mesfin Diedrich added 6. The Hornets are now 7-5 on the season.
Saturday, December 27th - The Hornets fell to DePaul Prep by a score of 43-36 on Saturday. South played a competitive game, coming up just short against a DePaul team that hit their free throws to end the game. The Hornets led entering the fourth quarter after a back and forth game. Khi Myles-Levi led with 11 points and Josh Andrzejewski led scored 8. The Hornets move to 7-6 on the year following the Seamus Brennan Holiday Tournament and will play their next game in 2026!
Freshman B Monday, December 22nd - The Hinsdale south freshmen b dropped their first game of the tournament to Glenbard East 29-26 Saturday morning. The lid was on the basket for the hornets early who could not pull away with the lead they held at half time. Glenbard made a late 3 pointer to catch the hornets who then stole the ball on a press only to miss a shot that would have given them the lead. Glenbard made a free throw on the foul and the end result was 29-26. The Hornets are not 3-7 on the season and 2-1 in conference
Tuesday, December 23rd - The freshmen south hornet b team dropped a spirited and close game to OPRF on Tuesday morning by a score of 34-25. Kenny Hubbard led the way with 10 and Armaan Setia chipped in 9. The defense continues to improve for the hornets while the offense continues its improvement and the hornets are 3-8 overall and 2-1 in conference
Friday, December 26th - Despite taking an 8 point lead early in the 4th quarter, the freshmen b hornets lost to west Chicago 37-32 in their third game of the Christmas tournament. Some nice shooting by Armaan Setia game the hornets control of the game but west Chicago took advantage of some late turnovers to pull it out in the end. The hornets are now 3-9 on the season and 2-1 in conference

Varsity Friday, December 19th - Hinsdale South delivered an exciting 31-28 home victory over Addison Trail, improving their record to 3-6-0 in what proved to be a thrilling back-and-forth battle. The team showed tremendous heart and resilience, overcoming multiple momentum swings to secure a well-deserved win in front of their home crowd.
The game began with The Hornets asserting their dominance early, jumping out to a commanding 8-0 lead in the first quarter behind Louie Dusek's hot shooting. Dusek was unstoppable to start, knocking down three consecutive field goals for six first-quarter points. Kareem Esily added another basket to cap off the perfect opening frame. However, Addison Trail responded with determination in the second quarter, mounting a 7-0 run that cut the deficit to just two points. Hinsdale South steadied themselves with contributions from multiple players, including clutch free throws from Dusek to take a 13-9 halftime advantage.

The game got off to a promising start as the Therapos brothers combined for back-to-back three-pointers to give Varsity an early 6-2 advantage. Noah Therapos opened the scoring with a deep shot, followed immediately by Niko Therapos draining his first of two perfect three-point attempts. However, Plainfield East responded with their own hot streak, reeling off 8 consecutive points to take control 10-6 by the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter saw both teams trading baskets, with Noah Therapos beginning to heat up from beyond the arc and at the free-throw line. His consistent scoring helped keep Varsity within striking distance, trailing just 28-21 at halftime. The third quarter belonged to Noah, who exploded for 9 points in the period, including a crucial 6-point personal run that brought his team to within one point at 36-35. His spectacular quarter featured multiple three-pointers, showcasing the sharp shooting that would earn him a game-high 19 points on efficient 5-of-9 field goal shooting, including an outstanding 5-of-8 from three-point range.

Though the final score didn't reflect their effort, the team's improved ball movement and balanced scoring attack showed positive signs for future games.

Freshman A Friday, December 19th - The Hornets defeated Addison Trail 44-17 on Friday at home. The Hornets took the lead with a strong first quarter and didn’t look back, shutting out the Blazers in the 2nd quarter en route to a 25-7 halftime lead. Mesfin Diedrich led a balanced offensive attack with 10 points. Collin Bills and Josh Andrzejewski scored 8 each and Tyler Beringer added 7. The Hornets move to 5-3 and 3-0 in the WSC Gold!
Saturday, December 20th - The freshman Hornets defeated Plainfield East 40-30 at home on Saturday. The Hornets started off strong with a 7-0 first quarter and a 35-18 lead after three. A late Plainfield East surge saw the lead cut to 10, but the game never got within single digits. Khi Myles-Levi led with 14 points, and Mesfin Diedrich scored 10 and added some stellar assists. Jaylen Lee added 7 points and Josh Andrzejewski had 6. The Hornets move to 6-3 on the young season heading into next week’s tournament!
Freshman B Friday, December 19th - The freshmen hornets came back and beat the Addison Trail Blazers by a score of 32-10 after a slow start Friday night. Both Robinson and Brewster led the way off the bench with 7 in this one and Hinsdale South is now 2-6 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Saturday, December 20th - The freshmen b hornets erased a double digit deficit on Saturday night to beat plainfield east 31-30. It was an intense game throughout but some timely baskets by Robinson and Brewster, plus a solid contribution by Bodik were enough to put the hornets of the right side of this one. The hornets are 3-6 overall 2-1 in conference.

Varsity Tuesday, December 9th - Hinsdale South battled hard in an exciting home contest against Nazareth Academy but came up short in a 41-31 defeat. The game featured multiple lead changes and momentum shifts, with both teams trading baskets throughout the first three quarters. Despite the loss, the team showed tremendous fight and resilience, moving their record to 2-5 as they continue to develop and improve.
The game got off to a fast start with five lead changes in the opening quarter alone. Noah Therapos got the scoring going early with a three-pointer to give Souththeir first lead at 3-2, and he added another basket to help keep pace with Nazareth Academy. The teams remained deadlocked 8-8 early in the second quarter after Louie Dusek knocked down a pair of clutch free throws, and Maurice Oglesby's three-pointer briefly put The Hornets back on top 12-11. However, Nazareth Academy responded with an 11-point scoring streak that stretched their lead to 22-12 before Therapos answered back with another three-pointer to stem the tide.
The third quarter belonged to Kareem Esily, who erupted for 8 points in the period to spark a dramatic comeback. Esily's hot shooting, including four two-point field goals, helped South outscore their opponents and actually take a 26-25 lead heading into the final quarter. Despite the loss, the team's record moves to 2-6-0 after one of their most competitive performances of the season, demonstrating significant growth and resilience in a game that went the distance.
The team faced an early challenge as Proviso East jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Kareem Esily broke the ice with the first basket. Louie Dusek contributed with perfect free throw shooting early on, but the team trailed 12-4 after the first quarter. The second quarter saw improved offensive production as Maurice Oglesby, Jonathan Greenwood, and Nas Yakub each chipped in baskets to cut the deficit to 15-10 at halftime.
The game's most exciting moments came in the fourth quarter when Noah Therapos caught fire from beyond the arc. After Proviso East extended their lead to 31-22, Therapos single-handedly brought his team back with three consecutive three-pointers, scoring nine points in the quarter and giving the Hornets their first lead at 33-31. Sophomore Tuesday, December 9th - Sophomore Hornets pick up their third win of the year, defeating Nazareth Academy 36-34. A tight game throughout the whole contest. We had a 6 point advantage with just under two minutes to go in the game. We unfortunately had careless turnovers and mental lapses on defense and were down by 1 with under 20 seconds to go. Kavi Patel was left wide open in the corner and a great kick out pass to him, he nailed a 3 pointer to put us up by 2 with 8 seconds left in the game. After a timeout, Nathan Navarro was able to tie up the potential game-winning shot from Nazareth. A gritty performance by all and a great TEAM win. Your Hornets were led by Kaelan Tanaka with 10 points, Kosta Polizois with 9 points, and Joe Velazquez with 7 points. Nate Laskowski drew a big-time charge towards the end of the game! Saturday, December 13th - Sophomore Hornets extend their winning streak to 3 games after defeating Proviso East with a score of 53 - 17. The win moves the Hornets to 2-0 in conference play. The Pirates came out in a 2-3 zone throughout the whole game. Our boys were unselfish, moving the ball and making a ton of "one more" passes to open shooters. Leading scorer, Kosta Polizois (17 pts), was hot from the three point line, making 4 for the game. Kaelan Tanaka (10 points) handled pressure and made great passes to open players all game. Varsity Wednesday, December 3rd - Hinsdale South delivered an impressive 51-26 victory over Glenbard South on Wednesday in front of their home crowd, improving their record to 2-3. The team showcased stifling defense and strong team chemistry throughout the contest, holding the Raiders to single digits in 3 of the 4 quarters.
The game began competitively as Glenbard South struck first, but the Hornets quickly responded with Kareem Esily tying it up at 2-2. From there, the team seized control with a strong first quarter run, as Nas Yakub and Louie Dusek contributed baskets to help build an early 10-7 advantage. The momentum continued into the second quarter, highlighted by Noah Therapos draining a clutch three-pointer and Kareem Esily adding another bucket to extend the lead to 17-9. By halftime, Hinsdale South had established a solid 21-17 cushion.
The third quarter proved to be the turning point as the Hornets dominated both ends of the court. The team showed great character in fighting back from an 11-point deficit, and these competitive moments will serve them well as they continue to develop throughout the season.
JV Saturday, December 6th - The JV squad opened their season in spectacular fashion, dominating Leyden 42-34 in their home opener to improve to 1-0. Led by a tough defensive presence and poised decision making, JV controlled the game from start to finish, never trailing and building leads as large as 18 points.
The first quarter belonged entirely to Jashi Tvelil, who caught fire early and sparked a dominant 15-4 opening frame. Tvelil drained three consecutive three-pointers as part of a personal 9-point quarter, helping JV race out to a commanding 13-0 lead before Leyden could even get on the scoreboard. Simus Mockus chipped in with 4 points in the quarter, finishing an efficient 3-5 from the field for 6 points on the night. Leyden tried to mount a comeback in the second quarter with a 10-point scoring streak, but Tvelil continued his hot shooting and Mockus added another bucket to maintain a 24-14 halftime advantage.
The second half saw JV weather several Leyden rallies through balanced contributions from multiple players. Max Fernandez-Cin stepped up in the third quarter with 5 points, including a crucial three-pointer, while shooting an impressive 3-6 from the field and 2-5 from beyond the arc for 8 points total. Kosta Polizios took over in the fourth quarter, scoring 6 of his team-high 8 points (4-7 FG) in the final frame to seal the victory with back-to-back buckets that extended the lead to double digits.
Tvelil's outstanding debut performance of 14 points on scorching 5-8 shooting, including a remarkable 4-6 from three-point range, set the tone for what promises to be an exciting season. The team's depth was on full display as coach utilized his entire roster, with Joe Vasquez contributing 2 points and multiple players making key plays throughout the contest. This impressive season-opening victory showcased the team's offensive balance, defensive intensity, and ability to maintain composure under pressure.
Sophomore Sophomore Hornets drop a home game against Glenbard South 50-46. Your Hornets cut a 16 point deficit under 2 minutes left in the game to 4 points. The Hornets started out hot. Joe Velazquez made three straight 3-pointers to go up 9-0. Joe Velazquez led all scorers with 14 points, Kaelan Tanaka added 9 points, and Kavi Patel adds 7. Eli Shabazz took a charge!
Sophomore Hornets win their second game of the season beating Leyden 48-35. Your Hornets held a comfortable lead for most of the game until the fourth quarter when it was tie 33-33. The boys stayed poised and committed to running our offense and made free throws in the final 2 minutes to solidify the victory. Kaelan Tanaka leads the way with 13 points and makes 5 out of 6 free throws in the final 2 minutes. Joe Velazquez adds 10 points and Kosta Polizois scores 9. The victory moves us to 2-3 and we take on Nazareth Academy at home Tuesday. SOUTH PRIDE
Freshman A The Hornets fell to Glenbard South by a score of 33-27 on Wednesday. A close game throughout saw the Raiders take control in the fourth quarter. Mesfin Diedrich led South with 10 points and Jaylen Lee scored 8. The Hornets will take on conference opponent Leyden on Friday!
The Hornets defeated Leyden by a score of 29-21 on Friday. The Hornets struggled to begin the game, falling down 11-0 in the first half. A 15-5 third quarter saw the Hornets take the lead and never look back. Collin Bills and Josh Andrzejewski led with 10 each and Mesfin Diedrich scored 8.
Freshman B The freshmen b hornets lost a close game 32-27 vs Glenbard South on Wednesday night. There were several lead changes in this one, but ultimately GBS managed just enough better plays to win the game. Parker and Brewster led the scoring with 5 apiece. The Hornets are 0-4 on the young season and 0-0 in conference.
The freshmen b hornets beat Leyden on Friday night to win their first conference game by a score of 36-25. The eagles wanted to press but couldn’t manage to slow down the hornets in a game they mostly controlled. Gutierrez had 12 and Brewster and Balderas each had 6 in the effort. The hornets are 1-4 on the season and 1-0 in conference
Week of November 24th
Varsity Hinsdale South Varsity improved greatly over the course of their thanksgiving tournament hosted by Riverside Brookfield. Led by Nas Yakub (all tournament) and Louie Dusek (team leading scorer 8ppg over 4 games)
The Hornets began by battling with the Fenwick Friars in a back and forth matchup that saw the hornets win the 1st and 4th quarters, but the remaining quarters proved to be too heavily in the Friars favor. Leading scorers of the contest were Louie Dusek (9), Maurice Oglesby (6), and Kareem Esily (6)
Game 2 against the hosting Riverside Brookfield Bulldogs did not go as planned for Hinsdale South, but there were some strong offensive performances from Noah Therapos (12) and Louie Dusek (8)
Game 3 versus Golder College Prep saw the Hornets right the ship as they proved triumphant over the Panthers 68-33. Nas Yakub (21) had a dominant performance in the post alongside Louie Dusek (9). Both players contributed 7 overall rebounds to the effort.
Game 4 concluded against a tough Joliet West team in a tough game the Hornets hope to stake their identity on, excluding the overall result of a loss. Hinsdale South had an early lead of 15-10 before the stifling defense of the Tigers took the Hornets out of their flow. Once again Hinsdale South won the 1st and 4th quarters, but the team looks to clean up the erratic 2nd and 3rd quarters of the tournament to find themselves on the proper side of the win column. Colton Lin (7) Louie Dusek (6) and Kareem Esily (6) were the leading scorers of the contest.
Sophomore Sophomore Hornets drop their opening game of the season to a very good St. Ignatius team, 52-22. Your Hornets were down early and never could come back from it. Joe Velazquez made three 3s in the game. John Molina scored 6. We play game 2 on 11/26 against Riverside-Brookfield in the RB Thanksgiving tournament. SOUTH PRIDE
Sophomore Hornets pick up their first win of the season in nail-biter finish, with a score of 43-40 over Riverside Brookfield. Offense picked up in the fourth quarter scoring 14 points. Nathan Navarro and Laparish Harrell knock down some clutch free throws to give us the edge. Joe Velazquez leads all scorers with 14 points. Kaelan Tanaka scores 11 points. Laparish Harrell adds 7.
Sophomore Hornets fall to Niles West 39-28. We missed a ton of shots that hit back iron or rimmed out. Leading scorer, Joe Velazquez, scored 13 points. Eli Shabazz and Laparish Harrell added 4 points each. Kaelan Tanaka takes a charge. SOUTH PRIDE
Freshman A The Freshman A team opened up their season with a tough loss against a physical Dundee-Crown team, 54-27. The Hornets struggled against pressure and had a tough time getting the offense going, leading to a lot of easy points for the opponent. Josh Andrzejewski led the Hornets with 8 points. The Hornets have two games left to bounce back in the St. Viator tournament!
The Freshman A Hornets notched their first win of the season over Northridge Prep 51-21 on Tuesday night. The Hornets had a great opening quarter, leading 15-0 and never looking back. Jaylen Lee led the Hornets with 12 points, and Collin Bills and Khi Myles-Levi added 8 each.
The Freshman A team defeated Montini on Wednesday by a score of 40-33. A back and forth game throughout, the Hornets took control in the third quarter with a big scoring run. Khi Myles-Levi led scoring with 11, Mesfin Diedrich scored 10, and Josh Andrzejewski added 9. The Hornets finish the Saint Viator Thanksgiving Tournament with a 2-1 record.
Freshman B The freshmen b hornets began their 2025-26 campaign with a lost to Reavis in their Thanksgiving tournament by a score of 36-24. Jeremiah Robinson led all scorers with 6 and nearly dunked twice, but ultimately the turnovers killed the hornets tonight. They are 0-1 on the young season and 0-0 in conference.
The good news is that the scoring was spread around as the hornets dropped game two against Evergreen Park by a score of 49-24, but the bad news is that the leading scorer for the hornets was Balderas with 4. Once again turnovers cost Hinsdale South badly in a game where EP pressed most the time. The hornets are 0-2 on the season and 0-0 in conference.
The freshmen B hornets dropped their third in a row against Oak Forest in the Reavis Thanksgiving tournament by a score of 40-25. Handling the pressure a little bit better this time, Hinsdale south got out to an early lead but could not sustain it down the stretch. Overall a much improved effort. The hornets are 0-3, 0-0 on the season.
