Varsity The Hornets fell to Nazareth by a score of 60-54 to end the 2024-25 season. Ayden Farrare led all scorers with 26 points, and notched his 1000th career point to cap a memorable career. Rohan Tvelil added 12 points of his own. Every single player on this team was a joy to coach and made this season an awesome one. South PRIDE
Week of February 17th
Varsity The Hornets fell to DGS 66-38 on Tuesday night. The Hornets had a strong start, but couldn’t find their footing after an even first quarter. Ayden Farrare led the Hornets with 11 points and Gemarion Alexander had 8.
Sophomore The sophomore hornets won a big game over their rivals the DGS mustangs on Tuesday night 60-52. This game featured 4 different hornets with double digit scoring for the first time all year, and resulted in the most points scored all year. Oglesby Jr led the way with 23, Greenwood and Tvelil had 10, and Shah with 13. The hornets are now 9-20 on the season and ended up 6-6 in conference.
The sophomore hornets lost their final vs Lemont 55-35. Hinsdale South couldn’t quite get it going in this one despite some strong performances by Maurice Oglesby Jr, Devin Shah, and Simas Mockus. The hornets end the season at 9-21 overall and an even 6-6 in the conference.
Freshman A Freshman Hornets finish conference play by defeating Downers Grove South 42-38 and finish with a conference record of 9-3! The win moves our overall record to 18-12. A strong start defensively, holding DGS to 2 points in the first quarter, your Hornets went into halftime with a 13-9 lead. Some adjustments by both teams at half made the scoring increase as we went into the fourth quarter. Louie Dusek was able to find Joe Velazquez on back-to-back possessions for wide-open layups to put us up four twice with under two minutes to play. We stayed poised down the stretch and were able to secure the win. We play our final game tomorrow at home against Lemont High School. SOUTH PRIDE!!!!
Freshman A finished their season with a final record of 18-13 overall and 9-3 in conference play. Last night we were defeated by a really good Lemont team 38-44. We did not let up as we scored 12 points in the last 1:30 in the game. Your Hornets were led with some hot shooting from Joe Velazquez who scored 14 points and hit 4 threes in the second half. Louie Dusek added 13 points and Kayden Verdun added 5 points. A great season with every player being totally bought in and playing together. The future is bright looking ahead for these young men. Louie Dusek finishes his freshman season scoring 301 points in 26 games.

Week of February 10th
Varsity The Hornets fell to Evergreen Park 72-48 on Tuesday. The Hornet defense struggled against a very quick Mustang offense, which got rolling early. Rohan Tvelil led with 14 and Gemarion Alexander scored 10.
The Hornets defeated Morton by a score of 42-39 on Friday night. A close game from start to finish, the Hornets were able to stay resilient and secure a conference victory. Colton Lin scored a go ahead layup and free throw in the last minute of the game to cap off a 9 point night. Rohan Tvelil led with 15 points, and Noah Therapos chipped in 8.
The Hornets defeated Willowbrook 55-44 on Saturday at home. After a high-scoring first quarter, the Hornet defense stepped up to the challenge and held Willowbrook to 10 points or less in every other quarter. Ayden Farrare led all scorers with 22 points, and Rohan Tvelil added 11 of his own.
JV The JV Hornets fell to Willowbrook, 51-50 on Saturday. A close game throughout, the Hornets played a strong game, but fell behind a hot Willowbrook team in the third quarter. The Hornets could not convert a late chance to tie the game, but their efforts should be commended for the way they played the entire game. Niko Therapos led with 17 points on five threes, and Grant Diedrich scored 16, 13 of which came in the second quarter.
Sophomore The sophomore hornets won a gritty game on the road Tuesday evening at evergreen park in a contest that went back and forth the entire time. Oglesby Jr led all scorers with 16, including the game winning bucket with 5 sec left. Devin Shah gave the hornets a chance by drawing a big charge late in the game: Cook, Shah, and Greenwood contributed 4, 3, and 3 respectively. Hinsdale South is now 8-18 overall and 5-5 in conference
Hinsdale South sophomores dropped another gritty one to Morton high school on Friday night 36-28. The defense was sound overall with Tyler Cook drawing two charges on the night and the hornets forced several turnovers but ultimately could not convert them in the loss. The hornets are 8-19 overall and 5-6 in conference
The hornets dropped a heartbreaker at home on Saturday to Willowbrook 50-46. South had the lead with a couple minutes left but some untimely turnovers were the unfortunate story in this one, despite some really nice team play throughout the game. The scoring was evenly spread in this one with cook putting up 9, Mockus with 9, Oglesby Jr with10, and Shah leading with 12. The hornets are 8-20 on the season and 5-7 in conference
Freshman A Freshman A win streak ends at five after losing a conference game at Morton. The loss moves us to 16-12 overall. A physical game and mental lapses led to our defeat. Kosta Polizois (17 pts) had a nice shooting game making five threes. Joe Velazquez off the bench scored 8 points. We play another conference game at home tomorrow against Willowbrook HS.
Freshman Hornets improve to 17-12 overall and 8-3 in conference after defeating Willowbrook HS at home 53-39. A HUGE third quarter, as a team scoring 23 points, put us in the driver's seat to victory. Louie Dusek led all scorers with 16 points, Nathan Navarro added 10 points, Joe Velazquez scored 8 and Kosta Polizois scored 8 as well. With under 2:00 minutes to go, Subhan Muneer off the bench made a bucket and drew the foul. Your Hornets ran the clock out and hit free throws at the end to finish the game. We finish conference play on Tuesday at home against Downers Grove South.
Freshman B Hinsdale South freshman B lose their second conference game to Berwyn Cicero Morton 39-41. The Hornets attempted to bounce back from a 20 point home loss and they made a valiant effort in the Mustangs gym. The game was defined by tough defense and physicality as the most points combined came in the first quarter. Hinsdale South trailed Berwyn Cicero by 2 to end the quarter 9-11. The second quarter was also decided by one score as the hornets trailed at the half 20-15. The teams split the third quarter 5 points each before the hornets began to claw back in the fourth. Hinsdale South got some good looks down the stretch after some clutch steals but ultimately couldn’t seal the deal. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Elijah Shabazz and Kavi Patel who both had 10 and Vijay Panicker also contributed 6.
Week of February 3rd
Varsity The Hornets fell to Addison Trail 63-44 in front of a large crowd on Future Hornets Night. The Hornets couldn’t quite combat the Blazers’ hot shooting, and ultimately, a three point halftime deficit was double digits by the end of the third quarter. Gemarion Alexander and Rohan Tvelil each scored 8, and Noah Therapos and Ayden Farrare each had 7.
The Hornets lost a heartbreaker against St. Viator, 44-40 at home on Saturday. The Hornets trailed by 6 entering the fourth, but battled back to take a 5 point lead with a minute left in the game. The Hornets played tough throughout the game against a very strong opponent. Rohan Tvelil led with 12 points and Ayden Farrare added 7.
JV The JV Hornets defeated Addison Trail 39-30 on Saturday. Fueled by some great energy, the Hornets built a lead in the third quarter and never looked back. Micholas Boyd led with 10 points and Nas Yaqub had 6!
Sophomore The sophomore hornets broke the losing streak on Friday night with a win over the Addison Trail Blazers 37-35. Defense was the story in this one with the hornets holding their opponents to a sub 40 score for the first time this season. Greenwood led the way with 11 and Oglesby Jr chipped in 9. The hornets are now 7-17 overall and 5-5 in conference.
The sophomore hornets lost a close one to St Viator 42-33 on Saturday in a game where the final score doesn’t tell the tale. After going down 15 at half Hinsdale south came storming back to cut the lead within 5. The hornets couldn’t finish it off from there unfortunately and free throws and fouls accounted for the rest. The hornets are 7-18 on the season and 5-5 in conference
Freshman A Freshman A improve to 7-2 in conference and 14-11 overall defeating Addison Trail on Friday night with a score of 58-22. An all out defensive performance by every player. Nine different Hornets were able to score in the game. Leading the way, Louie Dusek (14 pts), created for himself knocking down a ton of shots in the first quarter to start the momentum. The Hornets moved the ball in every defense that was thrown at them. John Molina adds 13 pts, Kayden Verdun scores 9 pts and Joe Velazquez chips in 6 pts. A great TEAM win! #SOUTHPRIDE
Freshman A improved to 15-11 after defeating St. Viator at home this Saturday. A back and forth game in the first half, your Hornets made some adjustments and had a major third quarter, scoring 17 points and holding St. Viator to 6 points. Hot shooting from the arc in the third quarter led to the victory. Joe Velazquez ( 9 points), hit two clutch threes that extended our lead. Louie Dusek (12 points), also nailed two threes in the second half to seal the victory. Kosta Polizois chipped in with 8 points. We are back in action on Tuesday, traveling to Evergreen Park. Freshman B Hinsdale South Freshman B improve to 8-1 in conference play after beating Addison Trail 47-5. The Hornets started the game off hot with a 22 point quarter that saw 6 different hornets find the scoring column. Hinsdale South continued to roll as they kept the Trailblazers scoreless for the entire first half. The most notable point though is that this was the first game that saw every available player score! Leading scorers for the hornets were Laparish Harrell (7), Caius Paz and Armaan Tvelil both with 6.
Hinsdale South Freshman B find themselves 16-8 on the season after a 48-13 win over Saint Viator. The Hornets had their highest scoring first quarter of the season so far putting up 25 led by Nate Laskowski who contributed 9 in the frame. The Lions kept battling and almost got the lead to single digits in the second quarter. The second half saw the Hornets take a stand as they held St. Viator to just two points to finish the game. Leading scorers for the hornets were Nate Laskowski (14), Elijah Shabazz (9), and Subhan Munheer (8).
Week of January 27th
Varsity The Hornets fell to Lyons Township by a score of 66-29 on Tuesday. South could not overcome a 20-point first quarter deficit as LT shot the lights out to start the game. Ayden Farrare led with 12 and Rohan Tvelil scored 8!
The Hornets defeated Leyden by a score of 40-39 on Thursday. A tight game throughout, the Hornets hit their FT’s down the stretch and did just enough to come out with a win. Rohan Tvelil had 16 and Ayden Farrare had 11.
The Hornets fell to Crystal Lake South 65-49 on Saturday. A tough start had the Hornets playing from behind, but South stayed tough throughout and did not quit. Ayden Farrare led with 21 points and Grant Diedrich scored 8.
JV The JV Hornets defeated Leyden 42-37 on Saturday. Trailing by 10 points in the fourth quarter, the Hornets went on a 20-0 run to flip the deficit into a 10 point lead with a minute remaining. Niko Therapos caught fire in the fourth, scoring all 11 of his points in the period. Grant Diedrich and Nas Yaqub scored 10 each. Sophomore The sophomore hornets tried their best to stay in the game vs Lyons Township on Tuesday night but it wasn’t enough in the 52-34 loss. The defense played well in stretches but the Lions just made more shots in the end, despite a pair of double digit nights by Maurice Oglesby Jr and Devin Shah. The hornets are 6-15 on the season and 4-4 in conference
The sophomore hornets lost to Leyden on Thursday night 51-43. A slow start for Hinsdale South was the tale in this one as the hornets fell behind early and never recovered. Oglesby had 17 and Shah had 11 in the effort. The hornets are 6-16 on the season and 4-5 in conference.
The sophomore hornets went cross country on Saturday to play crystal lake south but came up a little short 43-37. This game went back and forth before the gators pulled ahead. Some nice shooting by Maurice Oglesby Jr and solid defense by Jonathan Greenwood were the story in this one. The hornets are 6-17 on the season and 4-3 in conference.
Freshman A Freshman A Hornets fall to Lyons Township last night 29-48. The Hornets held Lyons Township scoreless for the first 4 minutes of the game. We struggled to score during that stretch. Lyons mixed up their defenses constantly, which disrupted our game and led to our defeat. Louie Dusek and John Molina were our leading scorers with 6 points each. John Molina was able to draw a charge in the game. The loss moves us back to .500 with a record of 11-11. We pick up conference play tomorrow at home vs. Leyden. Thank you, Freshman A improved to 12-11 with a victory at home against Leyden. We were able to draw two charges within the first minute of the game. Austin Sheahan and John Molina take the charges! Going into half-time, the score was tied 20-20. We made some defensive adjustments and held the Eagles to 3 points in the third. Having a lead with just under two minutes to go, we had some mental lapses and turned the ball over and lost our lead. Down 1, with 25 seconds left, John Molina goes coast-to-coast and makes a layup and gets fouled. The shot put us up one with under 15 seconds left. We were able to get a stop and secure the rebound. Kosta Polizois makes 1 out of 2 free throws with under a second left to secure the victory. Kosta Polizois led the way with 17 points, John Molina chipped in 7 points, and Kavi Patel scored 5. We now move to 6-2 in conference!
Freshman A win a battle at Crystal Lake South on Saturday with a score of 48 to 39. The Hornets came out strong with an 11 to 4 score at the end of the first quarter. The Gators were able to get to the free throw line quite a bit in the second and third which had a slight comeback. Nathan Navarro did a great job attacking the middle of their 1-3-1 zone and scored 6 straight points to extend the lead to 10. In the fourth quarter, we did a nice job settling down and controlling the tempo. The Gators had to start fouling in which we went 10 for 12 from the free-throw line to seal the win. Kosta Polizois led the team with 15 points, Kayden Verdun and Nathan Navarro each with 12 points. Louie Dusek added 7. The win puts us at 13-11 on the season overall. This Friday we have a home game against Addison Trail.
Freshman B Hinsdale South Freshman B drop one against Lyons Township 41-11 moving their record to 12-7. The Hornets were having a hard time getting started and didn’t see their first entrance into the scoring column until the second half. Anthoni Selmon had all but two of the hornets 7 points in the frame. The Hornets kept that period as close as any other but it ultimately proved too much of a deficit to overcome. Leading scorers for the hornets were Anthoni Selmon 5 and Armaan Tvelil 3.
Hinsdale South Freshman B improve to 13-8 on the season and 7-1 in conference play after beating Leyden 40-21. The game started out close with a back and forth first quarter ending 7-5 with a Hornets lead. The game continued with a defensive mindset as the hornets edged out the second quarter as well bringing their lead to 4. Hinsdale South split the quarter with Leyden at 6 a piece. The fourth quarter turned the game on its head though as the hornets more than doubled their total in the fourth scoring 22 of their 40 points in one frame lead by Laparish Harrell with 12. The other leading scorers for the Hornets was Armaan Tvelil with 8.
Hinsdale South Freshman B move to 14-8 on the season after coming out of Crystal Lake South with a 30-22 victory. The Hornets started off the game firing against the Gators with an 11-4 lead in the first. Laparish Harrell contributed in a big way with 6 points in the second quarter as the hornets expanded their lead 20-9. Hinsdale South came out of the half on a defensive mission and held Crystal Lake South scoreless in the third adding 10 points of their own. The final frame saw the hornets take their foot off the gas and the gators tried to claw back late but ultimately the differential was too much to overcome. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Laparish Harrell (10), Armaan Tvelil (6), and Vijay Panicker (5).
Week of January 20th
Varsity The Hornets fell to Downers South 57-52 in overtime on Tuesday. The Hornets led by 11 points at halftime, but struggled out of half. Ayden Farrare hit two huge threes in the last minute of regulation to send the game to OT, and led with 21 points. Rohan Tvelil added 18.
The Hornets defeated Willowbrook 66-49 on Saturday. Led by some balanced scoring and solid defense, South was able to keep Willowbrook in check for most of the game, leading by 10 at half. Scoring leaders included Gemarion Alexander with 14 points, Ayden Farrare with 12, and Rohan Tvelil and Colton Lin each with 10. Noah Therapos added 9 and Jad Kawass had 8.

The Hornets battled back from a double digit halftime deficit to tie the game at 36, but ultimately gave up two threes in the last two minutes and fell short of the win. Sophomore The sophomore hornets lost a physical game vs the DGS mustangs 52-41 on Tuesday night. The buckets just wouldn’t fall for the hornets in this one as Hinsdale south struggled to score right out of the gate. Defense and rebounding kept it close, but ultimately DGS made the better plays. The hornets are 6-13 on the season and 4-3 in conference.
The sophomore hornets lost 52-32 to the Willowbrook warriors on Saturday afternoon. After taking an early lead in this one behind some solid shooting vs the warrior zone the hornets turned the ball over too many times in this one and it got away. Hinsdale South is now 6-14 on the season and 4-4 in conference.
Freshman A Freshman A drop a conference game in overtime to Downers South with a score of 41 - 33 on Tuesday. Kosta Polizois nailed a three-pointer to tie the game with 23 seconds left. Hornets defense was able to get a steal and a timeout at half-court. We missed a game-winning shot in regulation. In overtime, costly early fouls and turnovers led to our defeat. Kosta Polizois leads us with 9 points. Joe Velazquez and Louie Dusek with 5 points.
Freshman A get back in the win column this Saturday defeating a tough and gritty Willowbrook team with a score of 48-34. The win moves the Hornets to 5-2 in conference play. Some defensive adjustments in the second half led to our victory. Austin Sheahan had two consecutive and-ones to fuel our run. Joe Velazquez also took a charge that added some much needed energy. Louie Dusek leads all scorers with 14 points. Kosta Polizois chips in 8 points. Freshman A overall record improves to 11-10 (5-2). We battle again Tuesday at home against Lyons Township.
Freshman B Hinsdale South Freshman B come out of their rival’s gym with a win after beating Downers Grove South 28-50. The Hornets jumped out to an early lead after holding Downers Grove to 2 points in the first frame while scoring 10 of their own. The second frame saw more back and forth scoring but Elijah Shabazz stepped up and scored the same amount as the Mustangs netting 9 in the period. Floriano Garro also added in 5 to help Hinsdale South remain ahead in the frame. The third quarter is where the Hornets began to pull away as they scored 20 points in one quarter (a season high) while holding the Mustangs to 9 points. The Fourth quarter saw a running clock as the Hornets were up 30 at one point in the game. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Elijah Shabazz (13), Armaan Tvelil (10), and Laparish Harrell (8).
Hinsdale South Freshman B improve to 12-6 on the season and 6-1 in conference play after beating Willowbrook 38-30. The game felt like a rivalry as there was a strong crowd showing and increased intensity very early on. The first quarter had the makings of a high scoring game as Hinsdale South scored 14 and Willowbrook 10. In the second quarter though both teams settled in defensively and the Warriors actually outscored the hornets by 4 in the frame leading to a tie score at the half. The third quarter was nearly identical to the first as the hornets scored 15 and the warriors 10. Hinsdale South put on an impressive stand in the fourth quarter showcasing their defensive efforts and held Willowbrook scoreless until the final minute of the game. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Elijah Shabazz (9), Armaan Tvelil (6), and Vijay Panicker (6).

Varsity The Hornets fell to Proviso East 65-51 on Tuesday night. Noah Therapos led with 10, Gemarion Alexander scored 8, and Ayden Farrare had 7. The Hornets look forward to returning home for two games against Morton and Hinsdale Central this weekend!
The Hornets defeated Morton 43-41 at home on Friday night. A close game throughout, the Hornets battled back from a nine point third quarter deficit to take the lead in the fourth and eventually gain their second home win of the season. Rohan Tvelil and Noah Therapos led with 12 and Ayden Farrare added 11!
The Hornets fell to crosstown rival Hinsdale Central on Saturday, 52-30. The Hornets battled for four quarters, playing tough against a talented Red Devil team. Noah Therapos led with 12 and Rohan Tvelil scored 7.
JV The JV Hornets defeated Addison Trail on Saturday, 58-44. The Hornets got off to a very hot start and brought it on the defensive end. Fuad Alsoubani played an outstanding game, scoring 11 and taking 6 charges! Hamza Truttling and Niko Therapos led scorers with 14 each, and Nas Yaqub scored 10.
Sophomore It was a great team victory for the hornets on Tuesday who defeated the proviso East pirates by a score of 47-41. This game was all about the defense by Hinsdale south who were more physical and forced a number of turnovers that led to points. Some clutch foul shooting also contributed to the win as the hornets are now 4-11 overall and climb to 2-2 in conference.
The sophomore hornets made it 2 in a row and 3 of their last four with a win over the Morton mustangs 38-35 on Friday night. This one went back and forth a couple times and was never more than an 8 pt differential. Some hot shooting my Maurice Oglesby and a clutch 3 point play by Jon Greenwood in the last minute was the difference. The hornets are now 5-11 overall and 3-2 in conference
In the biggest win the sophomore hornets have seen in several years, Hinsdale South upset the Red Devils of Hinsdale Central 45-44 on Saturday. Maurice Oglesby and Jonathan Greenwood led the way with a combined 26, but the real story in this one was the poise the hornets showed down the stretch. Hinsdale South is now 6-11 on the season and 3-2 in conference.
Freshman A Freshman A pick up another conference win defeating Proviso East with a score of 59-29. The win moves us to 4-0 in conference play. Your Hornets were led by Nathan Navarro who played a terrific game with 20 points. Kayden Verdun and John Molina provided pressure all game. Kayden Verdun scored 10 and John Molina scored 8. Nine different Hornets scored in the game and all players were able to check in to the game as well. A total team effort and win. We play again Friday against Morton for another conference game. Continuous turnovers lead to our first loss in conference play to Morton HS. Hornets battled back from down six and had a chance to win the game with 25 seconds left. A costly turnover and layup for the Mustangs sealed the deal. Kosta Polizois led all scorers with 10. Kayden Verdun and Joe Velazquez each chipped in 6 points. We are back in action Saturday at home against Hinsdale Central.
On Saturday the Freshman hornets lose a crossover match to Hinsdale Central 36-52. A large deficit in the first quarter was cut to four points. We came out of halftime with some missed assignments and three straight threes for HC. Leading scorer - Joe Velazquez with 10 points. Kayden Verdun chipped in 9. Freshman B Hinsdale South Freshman B remain undefeated in conference play after beating Proviso East 33-37. The game was anything but close to begin as Hinsdale South jumped out to a 12-4 first quarter lead led by Elijah Shabazz who had 8 by himself. The Hornets would go without him and a few other players for the remainder of the game so there was a good opportunity for other players to step up. Proviso East battled back and secured the lead by the end of the second quarter. The third quarter saw the two teams trade shot for shot to end with the same 3 point differential they took into the quarter. The fourth quarter is when the Hornets caught their stride scoring 13 points in that period alone and holding proviso to 9 to secure their win. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Elijah Shabazz (8), Anthoni Selmon (7), Nico Menotti and Vijay Panicker who both contributed 6.
Hinsdale South Freshman B lose their first conference game to Berwyn/Cicero Morton 20-30. This low scoring affair features many defensive stands by both teams and saw over a third of the points scored in the game come from the last frame. The Hornets began the game with a slow start with a 6-10 first quarter. They won the second quarter putting up another 6 and limiting the Mustangs to 4. The teams split in the third quarter 4 points each bringing the total to 16-18 before several defensive breakdowns cost the hornets the game late resulting in the final score. The Hornets leading scorer was Vijay Panicker with 5.
Hinsdale South Freshman B drop two in a row for the second time this season after a 39-18 game against Hinsdale Central. The Hornets had a slow start sinking one field goal in the first quarter. The second quarter though accounted for half of their output in the game as the hornets scored 7 and allowed 6. The score going into the half was 16-9. The second half left more to be desired though as the Red Devils began to pull away. The leading scorer for the Hornets was Nate Laskowski with 5

Varsity The Hornets defeated Plainfield East on Tuesday, 64-53. The Hornets came up with some big shooting, hitting ten threes on the night. Scoring came from a lot of different players. Ayden Farrare led with 17, Rohan Tvelil had 16 and Gemarion Alexander had 13. Noah Therapos and Colton Lin added 8 each.
The Hornets fell to Plainfield North on Saturday, 47-38. South led after three quarters, but couldn’t hold on in the fourth as a result of turnovers and some hot shooting from Plainfield North. Ayden Farrare led with 15 points and Rohan Tvelil scored 10.
Sophomore The sophomore hornets got a rare road win on Tuesday night over Plainfield East 54-49. This one was all about the strong defense and turnovers forced by Anton Bingham to inject energy into the entire team when needed most. Hinsdale South then scored enough off the opportunities to hold off a late charge by the bengals. The hornets are 3-10 on the season and 1-2 in conference.

Jashi Tvelil had the hot hand in this one putting the hornets up in the third quarter and the game went back and forth from there. Hinsdale South is now 3-11 on the season and 1-2 in conference.
Freshman A Freshman A lose a road game in overtime to Plainfield East with a score of 50-45. The Hornets started out with some poise, but multiple turnovers and defensive pressure lacking, led to our defeat. We battled back from nine down and had a chance to win it in regulation with the last shot. Leading scorers were Louie Dusek and Kosta Polizois with 12 each. We head back to Plainfield to battle Plainfield North on Saturday for a non-conference game. The loss moves us to a record of 9 -6.
Freshman Hornets are defeated by Plainfield North with a score of 38-25. In the first quarter we trailed by 10 and battled back in the third quarter. Our comeback fell short as shots were not falling all game. Kayden Verdun leads all scorers with six points. We pick back up Monday with conference play at Proviso East.
Freshman B Hinsdale South Freshman B improve to 9-5 after a 45-28 victory over Plainfield East. The game was close in the first quarter but great guard play from Elijah Shabazz and Kavi Patel kept the Hornets ahead going into the second 14-11. The second quarter saw a huge swing in the game as Hinsdale South kept the bengals scoreless in the period and had 8 players contribute in the scoring column. The Hornets continued to build on their 11-29 lead in the third quarter behind a strong showing from Joshua Lewis who scored all 6 of his points in the frame. The Final quarter saw a slight comeback from Plainfield East but the differential proved too much to overcome. Leading scorers for Hinsdale South were Kavi Patel (10), Elijah Shabazz (7), Joshua Lewis (6), and Vijay Panicker (6).
Week of December 30th
Varsity The Hornets wrapped up the 2024 Jack Tosh Tournament with a 68-42 loss to a very strong Wheaton North team. The Hornets struggled with some early turnovers, falling behind nearly 20 after the first quarter. South bounced back with a strong finish, playing the Falcons competitively for the rest of the game. Gemarion Alexander led with 17 and Christian Hardrick scored 8.
The Hornets fell to Glenbard South 61-54 on Saturday. Early turnovers were once again a major culprit, digging the Hornets a hole early in the game. The Hornets muscled back behind a monster effort from Ayden Farrare, who scored a career-high 31 points, most of which came at the rim. Rohan Tvelil added 8.
Sophomore The sophomore hornets lost to glenbard South on Saturday 57-48. This game was extremely close with several lead changes. Jonathan Greenwood led all scorers with solid contributions from Jashi Tvelil, Maurice Oglesby, and Devin Shah. The hornets are now 2-10 on the season and 1-2 in conference.
Freshman A Freshman A defeat Glenbard South with a score of 49-30. Battling a zone for majority of the game, the Hornets were patient on offense and scoring was distributed throughout multiple players. Defensively, the Hornets held Glenbard South to 4 points in the third quarter which led to a major scoring run for us. 7 players were able to score in the game. Louie Dusek led all scorers with 17 points. Kosta Polizois poured in 11. Connor Jaffrey scored 8 and was a great facilitator within the middle of the zone. Kayden Verdun chipped in 6 points.
Freshman B Hinsdale South Freshman B lose a close one to Glenbard South 31-30. The Hornets leading scorer for the game was Kavi Patel and he started the game off going 3/3 from 3 to give i Hinsdale South a 7-9 lead in the first quarter. The Hornets struggled offensively in this game as they only scored twice in the second quarter losing the lead 17-14. Hinsdale South continued to battle back in the third quarter that again heavily featured Kavi Patel in the scoring column. The Hornets maintained a 23-26 lead going into the fourth quarter and were up by as much as 7 before turnovers and a lack of offensive productivity proved to be too much to overcome. Kavi Patel lead all scorers with 16 points.
Week of December 23rd
Varsity Thursday, December 26th - The Hornets fell to Bolingbrook, 56-21 to open up the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic at York on Thursday. South held a top-ranked Bolingbrook team to 23 points in the first half, showing a lot of progress on the defensive end. The Hornets next game comes at the Jack Tosh on Friday.
Friday, December 27th - The Hornets fell to Glenbard North, 63-38 on Friday at York. A close game at half, the Hornets could not keep up with the hot shooting of the Panthers and ultimately lost their second game of the tournament. Gemarion Alexander led with 13 points and Rohan Tvelil added 7, while taking a charge for the second straight game.
Saturday, December 28th - The Hornets defeated Glenbard East 52-48 in overtime at the Jack Tosh on Saturday. A competitive game throughout, the Hornets battled and got a ton of energy from their bench. Ayden Farrare hit a game tying free throw to send it to OT, and Niko Therapos hit 2 clutch free throws to ice the game. Farrare led with 19 points and 9 boards, and Gemarion Alexander and Rohan Tvelil added 11 points each.
Sophomore Friday, December 27th - The Hinsdale South sophomore boys basketball team dropped two on Friday, with a 57-45 loss vs Oak Forest and a 48-26 loss to Oswego. In both games the hornets hung close early but were worn down as a couple of key players were out with sickness and injury. The standout player in these games was Jashi Tvelil, who had 24 total points on the day; with Devin Shah and Simas Mockus contributing heavily as well. The hornets are 2-8 on the season and 1-2 in conference.
Saturday, December 28th - The sophomore hornets once again lost two in a row at the Lincoln Way Central Christmas tournament on Saturday. In the first game romeoville was too fast and the hornet shooting let them down in a 54-20 loss. The second game was much closer in a 41-40 loss to Montini Catholic. Jashi Tevlil led all scorers in game one, while the game two scoring was more balanced overall. The hornets are 2-9 on the season and 1-2 in conference.
Freshman A Monday, December 23rd the Freshman A advance in round 1 of the winter tournament defeating West Chicago 48-24. Austin Sheahan and Kosta Polizois each score 12. Nathan Navarro adds 9 and Joe Velazquez scores 8. Round two we play DePaul Prep. The win moves us to a record of 7-3. SOUTH PRIDE.
Thursday, December 26th the Freshman A played round 2 of the winner side of the bracket against DePaul Prep. Your Hornets battled hard being down 14 in the beginning of the game. Some turnovers on back to back possessions led to our defeat. We pick up play on Friday against Wheaton Warrenville South. ONWARD! SOUTH PRIDE.
Freshman B Monday, December 23rd - Hinsdale South Freshman B starts the Seamus Brennan Holiday Tournament off with a 48-19 win over West Chicago. The Hornets started the game off with stifling defensive pressure and held the Wildcats scoreless in the first quarter while contributing 9 points themselves. The rest of the game saw the hornets score an average of 13 points a quarter to West Chicago’s 6 points per quarter. Hinsdale South had 9 players score 4 or more points with the leading scorer being Laparish Harrel who scored 9.
Thursday, December 26th - Hinsdale South Freshman B were forced into the constellation rounds of the bracket by Oswego East after a 34-45 loss. The Hornets had an early game after a holiday and those factors may have contributed as they came out a bit flat falling behind 10-3 in the first quarter. The game turned on its head in the second however, as the Hornets battled back and held the Wolves to 2 points taking the lead 13-12. Despite maintaining or extending their lead the entire 3rd quarter the hornets tied the Wolves to end the period taking the score of 29-28 into the fourth. Ultimately Hinsdale South ran out of gas late and had to foul leading to the final outcome. The Leading scorers for the Hornets were Kavi Patel with 14 and Armaan Tvelil with 9.
Friday, December 27th - Hinsdale South Freshman B find themselves on their first losing streak of the season after falling to Oak Park River Forest 40-59. The Hornets didn’t start the game off as strongly as they would have liked and found themselves trailing 8-16 to end the first quarter. The second period is where things became problematic however as the hornets scored just twice and allowed 13 points. In an attempt to change pace both teams began to press and the third quarter saw the most combined points scored with 33 in the period. To end the game Hinsdale South found their defensive determination and outscored the Huskies by 5 holding them to 10 points but it proved to be too little too late. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Nate Laskowski with 12!, Elijah Shabazz (10), and Armaan Tvelil (8)
Saturday, December 28th - Hinsdale South Freshman B bounce back in a big way against Marist winning 47-41. The game got off to a back and forth start early in the first as Hinsdale South jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before the Red Hawks began to claw their way back. The first ultimately ended with the Red Hawks up 2. The second quarter had a frantic pace that didn’t favor the hornets as they fell behind 15-22. The half time break was what Hinsdale South must have been waiting for as they flipped the script on its head. The Hornets outscored the Red Hawks 18-7 in the quarter securing the lead and never looking back. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Kavi Patel with 15! Elijah Shabazz (8), and Armaan Tvelil (7)
Week of December 16th
Varsity The Hornets fell to St. Laurence by a score of 64-30 at home on Tuesday. A game that began heavily in the Vikings’ favor saw the Hornets play a much more competitive final three quarters. Rohan Tvelil led the Hornets with 10 and sophomore Jonathan Greenwood scored 6.
The Hornets lost to Addison Trail 68-50 on the road on Friday. The Blazers couldn’t miss from three point range, extending their lead each time the Hornets were able to get the game close. Gemarion Alexander led with 20 points and Ayden Farrare added 7 in his season debut.
JV The Hornets JV Team fell to Addison Trail, 38-33 on Saturday. A close battle throughout, the Hornets played hard but ultimately came up short in the fourth quarter. Noah Therapos led with 12 points and Nas Yaqub had 7.
Sophomore St Laurence took it to the hornets pretty well on Tuesday night, beating Hinsdale South 48-19. This was a true David vs Goliath match and unfortunately David couldn’t pull off the upset. Simas Mockus led the sophomore hornets with 8 and Tyler Cook chipped in 6. The defense continues to get better for the hornets- a bright spot as south took two charges in the game and forced several turnovers. Hinsdale South is now 1-6 overall and 0-2 in conference.
The sophomore hornets get their second win of the season on Friday night 58-35 over the Addison Trail Blazers. The hornets set the tone early in this one with a nice patient offensive possession for a score and a solid defensive effort, and did not look back from there. Devin Shah led the way but other solid offensive contributors included Jashi Tvelil, Simas Mockus, and Denim Love who scored his first points of the season. The hornets are now 2-6 overall and 1-2 in conference.
Freshman A Freshman A Hornets fall to a talented St. Laurence team 29-34. Seven hornets were able to score, but some costly turnovers and physicality got the best of us. We had a great run to start the third, but could not come back from the 7 point deficit. Leading scorers were Kosta Polizois and Nathan Navarro with 7 points. The loss moved us to 5-3. We are back in action for conference play against Addison Trail Friday. Onward!! SOUTHPRIDE.
Freshman Hornets move to 3-0 in conference, 6-3 overall, after defeating Addison Trail 64-35. Leading all scorers was Kosta Polizois, pouring in 14 points. Louie Dusek scored 13. Bench was fantastic this game. All players played minutes and 8 different players scored. John Molina scored 11 off the bench and did a great job defensively. We are back in action as the host for our Christmas tournament Monday against West Chicago. SOUTH PRIDE!
Freshman B Hinsdale South Freshman B falls to 5-2 after a tough loss to St. Laurence 34-36. The Hornets got off to a hot start coming out of the gates with an 8-0 lead before the Vikings found their footing and cut the deficit to 1 to end the first quarter. The teams split the second quarter 10 a piece to go into the half with a score of 20-19. The Hornets battled back and forth in the third quarter but ultimately they went into the final period trailing by two. The fourth quarter proved to be a defensive stand by both teams as each team held the other to 5 points. Hinsdale South had the final possession but ultimately they could not regain the lead or force extra time. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Elijah Shabazz, Kavi Patel, and Dustin Chiovetti.
Hinsdale South Freshman B improves to 6-2 after a decisive 48-18 triumph over Addison Trail. The hornets started the game trailing the blazers 6-7 but they ended the first period up 14-7. This defensive pressure continued as Addison trail scored 4 points over the next two periods. The Hornets had 14 of their 16 players who checked in enter the scoring column. Week of December 9th
Varsity The Hornets fell to Nazareth 55-40 on Tuesday. The Hornets showed some spurts of growth, but ultimately fell to Nazareth down the stretch making some costly errors in the second half. Grant Diedrich led our team with 18 points, and Rohan Tvelil added 8.
The Hornets notched their first win of the season against Proviso East on Saturday, 61-54. In their first home game of the year, the Hornets managed to take the lead in the third quarter and never looked back. Christian Hardrick led with 19 points and Rohan Tvelil scored 12. The Hornets move to 1-1 in conference play.
Sophomore The sophomore hornets recorded their first win of the season versus Nazareth Academy 46-31 on Tuesday night. Once again Devin Shah was the workhorse with 21 points and Simas Mockus followed him with 11 and Jon Greenwood with 7. The hornets are now 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in conference.
The sophomore hornets dropped their first home game of the season to proviso East high school 43-35 on Saturday evening. It was a tough shooting start for the hornets who held the lead briefly in the first quarter but the cold shooting gf caught up with them. Once again Devin Shah led the way with 15, while Simas Mockus finished with 11. The Sophs are 1-5 on the season and 0-2 in conference.
Freshman A Freshman A lose a tough game to Nazareth Academy 51-41. The Hornets came out great defensively challenging the Roadrunners on everything. With a half time score favoring us, 23-17. Third quarter started out strong, but mental lapses in our press break led to our defeat. Kosta Polizois leads all scorers with 12 points and Louie Dusek scored 9. Kayden Verdun added 6 points. The loss brings us to 4-2. We play our next game Saturday against Proviso East and look to get back in the win column. #SOUTHPRIDE!
Your Freshman Hornets led by Louie Dusek’s strong scoring performance and leadership, defeated Proviso East with a score of 58-39. We started out with a 12-0 lead. Proviso made some adjustments late in the first. Hornets had a 4 point lead at half time. We made some defensive adjustments and held them to 6 points in the third. An all out TEAM win. Kosta Polizois scored 12 points and Suby Muneer chipped in 8 points. The win moves us to 2-0 in conference play. Back in action on Tuesday against St. Laurence.
Freshman B Hinsdale South freshman B lose their first game of the season to Nazareth Academy 46-31. The Hornets didn’t get off to a strong start and it haunted them the rest of the game. Though they continued fighting the entire game it ultimately was too much to overcome. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Josh Lewis 12 and Armaan Tvelil 9.
Hinsdale South Freshman B basketball team beats Proviso East 47-33 to earn their first home win and improve to 5-1. The hornets started and ended the game with demonstrative defensive showings holding proviso easy to 7 in the first quarter and 3 in the fourth quarter. The hornets led the entire game and 11 of the 15 players contributed to the scoring column. Leading scorers from the game were Elijah Shabazz with 13 and Vijay Panicker added 7.
Week of December 2nd
Varsity The Hornets lost to Leyden 52-44 on the road on Friday night. Down 15 at halftime, the Hornets got the game as close as 3 points in the fourth quarter. Gemarion Alexander led with 13 points, Grant Diedrich scored 9, and Maurice Oglesby Jr. scored 8.
Sophomore The sophomore hornets lost a tight one at Leyden high school on Friday night 48-45. The Hornets went down by 13 early as the eagles were hot from the 3 pt arc early. They came storming back though behind 18 pts by Jonathan Greenwood and 12 by Devin Shah. The Hornets are 0-4 overall and 0-1 in conference.
Freshman A The freshman boys A team opened up conference play with a victory over Leyden with a score of 44-33. Led by an all-out defensive effort in the first half, the Hornets held Leyden to 5 points in the first quarter and 8 points in the second. Leading scorer, Louie Dusek (16 points), handled Leyden's press and facilitated the offense. Kosta Polizois (15 points), kept his hot shooting from the arc, making 3 threes in the second quarter. Austin Sheahan played great against there two big men and battled for rebounds. Every player was able to get into the game. A total TEAM effort and win! We play a non-conference game this upcoming Tuesday at Nazareth Academy.
Freshman B Hinsdale South Freshman B remains unbeaten after a double overtime conference win against Leyden 41-37. The Hornets got off to a slow start and saw themselves trailing the Eagles the entire first half and into the third quarter as well. Slowly but surely they began to claw back closing the deficit to 6 to start the third before a furious rally in the fourth that saw Eli Shabazz hit a tying 3 pointer with 30 seconds left in regulation. The game would continue into two overtime’s before the hornets sealed it with clutch free throws from Floriano Garro and Joshua Lewis.
Week of November 25th
Varsity Tuesday, November 26th - The Hornets fell to a talented Fenwick team 56-19 in our season opener. The more experienced Friars jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Hornets were led by Rohan Tvelil with 6 points, and some great interior play from Gemarion Alexander. The Hornets will take on Riverside Brookfield on Wednesday.
Wednesday, November 27th - The Hornets lost to RB, 66-39 on Wednesday. A close game at half went the Bulldogs’ way out of half behind some hot shooting. Gemarion Alexander led the Hornets with 17 points. The Hornets play next on Friday!
Friday, November 29th - The Hornets lost to Julian 64-58 on Friday. In a game that Julian led throughout, the Hornets were able to claw back from an 11 point deficit at the end of the third quarter to force the game into overtime. Gemarion Alexander and Grant Diedrich led the Hornets with 16 points each. The Hornets wrap up play at the RB Tournament on Saturday.
Saturday, November 30th - The Hornets fell to Thornwood 51-41 on Saturday to wrap up the VandeMerkt tournament at RB. The Hornets showed a ton of fight but ultimately fell short against a talented Thornwood team. Grant Diedrich continued his impressive play, leading the Hornets with 12 points. Rohan Tvelil and Maurice Oglesby Jr. scored 8 each.
Sophomore Monday, November 25th - The sophomore hornets began their season with a 53-41 loss vs St Ignatius on Monday night. It was a fast start for Hinsdale South, particularly behind some hot shooting by Devin Shah and Simas Mockus. But fast break points were the difference in this one as Ignatius erased a 9 point deficit and ultimately held on for the win. The hornets are 0-1 on the young season.
Wednesday, November 27th - The sophomore hornets dropped to 0-2 this holiday weekend, losing a scrappy game to host team Riverside-Brookfield 50-38 on Wednesday night. Once again the hornets held the lead early but couldn’t quite hold on down the stretch despite good shooting by Devin Shah and a strong performance underneath by Jonathan Greenwood. Up next for Hinsdale south is Southside Prep.
Friday, November 29th - Hinsdale South sophomore basketball dropped another one vs a tough Southland Prep team 73-53 on Friday night to end the RB Thanksgiving tournament. The hornets hung in most of the game behind some hot shooting by Devin Shah (18 pts in the second half), but were forced to gamble late in the game due to a ten point deficit. Southland Prep took care of business and it adds up to a 0-3 start this year for the hornets who begin conference play next week vs Leyden.
Freshman A Monday, Novmeber 25th - Freshman A Hornets get their first W in the win column defeating Dundee-Crown 38-31. Leading scorer, Louie Dusek, chipped in 19 points. Kosta Polizois sealed the win for the Hornets making 2 clutch free throws to take the game out of reach. Kosta made three threes in the game as well and scored 13 points. The hornets played great defensively. Three quarters they held Dundee-Crown to 6 points. The hornets shared the ball on offense and seem to have found a decent groove. We play Montini in the next round of the tournament on Wednesday night. A great TEAM win!!
Wednesday, November 27th - Freshman Hornets move to 2-0 after defeating Montini with a score of 57-27. An all out defensive battle with multiple players having 2 or more steals. To start the game, we held Montini to 4 points in the first quarter. Your Hornets were lead by the hot-shooting of Kosta Polizois, who nailed 4 three pointers in the game. He led all scorers with 14 points. The bench played a huge role in the game. Every player was able to play. Off the bench, Kayden Verdun poured in 12 points and John Molina had 11. Nine total players scored in the win!
The win moved the Hornets to 2-0 and play on Friday for the final day of the St. Viator Thanksgiving Tournament. We play Northridge Prep and Prospect.
Friday, November 29th - The Freshman Hornets played their final two games at the St. Viator Thanksgiving Tournament. We opened up our first game against Northridge Prep. We defeated them with a score of 61-37. The game was tied at half 30 - 30, after some half game adjustments, your Hornets held Northridge to 7 points in the second half. Hornets defense only gave up one point in the third quarter. Your Hornets were led by a strong scoring performance by Louie Dusek, pouring in 14 points. Kayden Verdun, coming off the bench, scored an additional 13. Nine different players scored for the Hornets. An all around great TEAM win!
The second game of a double-header was against a very talented Prospect team. An all out defensive battle by both sides all game. The Hornets were down 15-19 at half-time. They opened up the second half with a steal and a layup. Ultimately, our luck ran short after missing majority of our open looks. The Hornets lost their first game of the season with a score of 44-36. We open up the season with a record of 3-1. Leading scorers were Louie Dusek with 16 points and Kayden Verdun with 13 points.
Freshman B Monday, November 25th -Hinsdale South FB earns their first victory against Reavis FA with a final score of 38-30. Freshman B starts out the Reavis tournament 1-0 behind an even showing from the Hornets. 9 of the 13 hornets who played tonight scored and 6 of them scored at least 4 points. The story of the game for the hornets was early defense as they held Reavis to 4 points in each of the first two quarters before giving up 7 in the third quarter. Faced with a deficit around 10 the majority of the game heading into the fourth quarter Reavis decided to press and this opened the flood gates. The fourth quarter saw both teams account for 15 points. Causing a relatively low scoring game to tell a different tale in the box score. This was a good team win for Freshman B and the leading scorers, all with 6 were Michael A., Nate L., and Nico M.
Tuesday, November 26th - Hinsdale South Freshman B earn themselves another win in the Reavis tournament with a 30-25 performance against Evergreen Park. The first quarter was a nearly even affair with the Hornets edging out the mustangs 8-6. The second quarter gave the Hornets new life on defense as they held Evergreen park scoreless, expanding their lead going into the half to 17-6. The Mustangs stormed back in the third quarter with revitalized vigor cutting the hornets lead to 5. Ultimately the teams traded blows in the fourth to end the quarter even, resulting in a Hinsdale South victory. The leading scorer for tonight was Armaan Tvelil with 14 points.
Wednesday, November 27th - Hinsdale South Freshman B improves to 3-0 and takes home 1st place in the Reavis Freshman Thanksgiving holiday tournament after a 39-33 victory over Oak Forest. The game got off to a nice start as Vijay Panicker outscored Oak Park 5-4 all by himself thanks mostly to the stellar hornet defense. The second quarter saw Elijah Shabazz add in 5 of his own points as Hinsdale South and Oak Forest traded shot for shot. Coming into the third quarter with a score of 19-13 Hinsdale South kept up their stifling defense and saw 5 different players contribute to the total ending the quarter up 32-18. Things once again got a little too close for comfort in the fourth quarter but Hinsdale South stayed the course and finished the tournament undefeated. Leading scorers for the game were Elijah Shabazz 10, Vijay Panicker 9, and Anthoni Selmon with 6.
