Varsity Tuesday, February 13th - Hinsdale South 91 Willowbrook 78 Hinsdale South outlasted the Willowbrook Warriors in a 91-78 senior night victory! This was the second highest total points scored by the Hornets this season and it came at a vital time. The first quarter saw a close game in which the hornets closed the period trailing by 3 points. Jack Weigus, Brendan Savage, and Matthew Peczulis helped even the score in the second quarter scoring all of the hornets 24 in the period. The third quarter saw a more balanced offensive attack from the hornets and stifling defense especially from Adam Flowers and Olasupo Akande, resulting in a 3 point hornet lead going into the fourth. The Fourth quarter saw the Hornets take a more assertive lead with high energy plays, like a dunk from Ayden Ferrare, allowing them to build and sustain their lead to close a successful senior night. Jack Weigus with a MONSTER 44 point game! Brendan Savage with 16, Matas Peczulis with 12, and Ayden Farrare with 11!
Wednesday, February 14th - Lemont 84 Hinsdale South 71 Hinsdale South missed an opportunity to end the regular season at .500 with a loss to Lemont HS 71-84. The game began with the two teams trading baskets in the first ending the quarter with a tied score. In the second quarter however the Hornets fell behind by 10 points after a barrage of threes. Hinsdale South continued to battle and cut the lead to single digits early in the fourth but ultimately the deficit would hold. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Jack Weigus with 25, Ayden Farrare 13, Adam Flowers 12, and Matthew Peczulis 9.
Sophomore Tuesday, February 13th - Hinsdale South 61 Willowbrook 34 The hornets defeated Willowbrook by a score of 61-34 at home on Tuesday night. The Hornets outscored the Warriors 15-2 in the first and 22-14 in the second, and never looked back. Every Hornet got in the game and contributed great minutes. Noah Therapos led with 20 points on 6 threes, and Chase Edwards and Hamza Truttling had 9 each. The sophomore Hornets wrap their season up Wednesday at Lemont!
Wednesday, February 14th - Lemont 60 Hinsdale South 51 The Hornets fell to Lemont to end the season 61-50. The Hornets fought like crazy but ultimately fell short in the end. Noah Therapos had an outstanding game, hitting eight threes and scoring 27 points. Niko Therapos added 12 on four threes of his own. The Hornets finish the season 9-19, but with a record that isn’t truly indicative of the extremely bright future of this sophomore group. Their efforts all year were outstanding, despite being an undersized group. I look forward to seeing what this group does on the varsity level the next two seasons.
Freshman A Tuesday, February 13th - Willowbrook 55 Hinsdale South 36 The freshmen hornets were blitzed on Tuesday night by Willowbrook 55-36. This one wasn’t close from the getco as the warriors just came to play hard and fast and the hornets were caught by surprise. Tvelil led all scores with 17 and Cook contributed 14. Hinsdale South finishes 6-6 in the conference and is 13-16 overall.
Freshman B Tuesday, February 13th - Willowbrook 54 Hinsdale South 35 The Hornets were short handed with only 6 players. They played hard in the first half but ran out of gas in the 3rd quarter. I’m very proud of all the work the boys put in this season!

Varsity Saturday, February 10th - Hinsdale South 67 Morton 42 Hinsdale South surpassed Berwyn Cicero Morton with a final score of 67-42. Hinsdale South got off to a hot start with scoring contributed from 6 different players in the first quarter. This resulted in the Hornets holding a lead going into the second which they built upon going into the half up 11. The third quarter saw the same differential as the two teams went back and forth matching each other in the period. In the fourth however the Hornets b opened the floodgates behind a staunch defensive effort to close the game with a 20+ point differential. Leading scorers for Hinsdale South were Brendan Savage 19, and Ayden Ferrare with 16
JV Monday, February 5th - Lyons Township 61 Hinsdale South 48 Hinsdale South JV drops a game versus Lyons Township by 61-48. The Hornets got off to a bit of a slow start to the game only accounting for 11 points in the first quarter and finding themselves down by 15. The second quarter saw the gap shrink a bit and Hinsdale South was within 9 but in the third quarter the size of the Lions proved to be too much. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Colton Lin 14, and Noah Therapos 11

Freshman A Monday, February 5th - Provios East 41 Hinsdale South 36 The freshmen hornets lost a tough one at Proviso East on Monday night 41-36. Too many turnovers and bad fouls cost Hinsdale South in this one and the pirates took advantage. Simas Mockus led the way with 12 and Devin Shah had 11. The hornets are now 12-15 overall and 5-5 in conference play.
Saturday, February 10th - Hinsdale South 36 Morton 27 The Hinsdale south freshmen took care of the Morton Mustangs on Saturday afternoon 36-27. The defense was the difference here as the hornet 1-3-1 zone smothered the opponent as evidenced by the sub 30 score. Jashi Tvelil led the way with 14 and Devin Shah had 13 in this one. The hornets are now 13-15 overall and 6-5 in conference.
Freshman B Monday, February 5th - Hinsdale South 51 Provios East 23 Hornets with a huge win! 51 -23 ! We were lead in scoring by Tazz with 16 points. We held them to 13 points in the second half. While scoring 41 points in the second half. Our best victory of the season . I couldn’t be more proud of the fight and resolve the boys show tonight .
Saturday, February 10th - Morton 43 Hinsdale South 33 The Horents could not stop Morton from the 3 point line, who hit 9 three on the night. The Horent leading scorer was Andrius. We look to finish the season strong on Tuesday vs. Willowbrook.

Varsity Tuesday, January 30th - Hinsdale South 76 Addison Trail 52 Hinsdale South improves to 5-4 in conference play with a 76-52 win over Addison Trail. The hornets got off to a hot start and showcased stifling defense resulting in a 50-26 lead going into halftime. Matthew Peczulis had a big first half pouring in 17 points off 5 made 3s. The pressure didn’t subside after the half either, as Jack Weigus had an efficient 11 point third quarter and by the fourth the total was all but decided. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Jack Weigus 24, Matthew Peczulis 17, and Brendan Savage with 11.
Friday, February 2bd - Hinsdale South 83 Proviso East 74 Hinsdale South goes into Maywood and leaves with an 83-74 victory over Proviso East. This game felt hugely competitive even beyond the conference records on the line. The teams traded shots back and forth the entire first quarter and the Hornets were ahead up until a full court buzzer beater put the pirates ahead by 2. In the second half, Hinsdale South caught their stride. Proviso East kept themselves within a few baskets, but ultimately a series of defensive stands and free throws from Jack Weigus tipped the game in the Hornets favor. Leading scorers from the contest were Jack Weigus 30, Matthew Peczulis 18, and both Ayden Farrare and Brendan Savage contributed 13.
Saturday, February 3rd - Wheaton North 55 Hinsdale South 44 Hinsdale South comes up a quarter short against Wheaton North 44-54. Playing on the heels of an intense Proviso East victory the day before, Hinsdale South started the game with an early lead 9-7 lead to end the first quarter. This uncharacteristically low score speaks to the defensive emphasis the game was played with. Even with the low scoring affair the Hornets maintained their lead being up 1 by halftime and 3 in the third quarter. However fatigue and the prior battles aches and pains combined with the steady defensive show of the falcons proved to be too much. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Jack Weigus 15, and Ayden Fararre 9
JV Thursday, February 1st - Downers Grove South 56 Hinsdale South 54 Hinsdale South JV loses to Downers Grove South 54-56 in a hard fought contest that came down to the final buzzer. The game started out with a ten point Hornet lead going into halftime but in the third the game began to slip away. Hinsdale South came surging back though and had it to 2 points with a look at the basket before a costly turnover ultimately sealed the deal. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Rohan Tvelil 15, Noah Therapos 12, and Colton Lin with 9
Sophomore Tuesday, January 30th - Hinsdale South 46 Addison Trail 35 The sophomore Hornets defeated Addison Trail 46-35 on Tuesday night. All 11 sophomore players got in the game, and all contributed as the Hornets showed great team chemistry and determination to get the win. Noah Therapos led the Hornets with 21 points, hitting 5 3’s, Isaiah Burton had 8, and Niko Therapos had 7. The Hornets will next take on Proviso East on the road Friday night as the season winds down!
Friday, February 2nd - Hinsdale South 59 Proviso East 54 The sophomore Hornets fought out a tough win over Proviso East on the road on Friday night, 59-54. Playing on the road in a tough place to play, the Hornets stood up to the pressure and handled business. Noah Therapos was a man on a mission, scoring 17 points, 14 in the third quarter alone. Niko Therapos scored 13, Isaiah Burton 9, Maurice Oglesby and Hamza Truttling 8 each.
Saturday, February 3rd - Wheaton North 52 Hinsdale South 34 The Hornets finished the week 2-1 with a loss to Wheaton North on Saturday at home, 52-34. A night after a tough battle against a conference opponent, the Hornets had trouble getting under control with a slow start in the first half. Wheaton North had an 18 point lead after one, but the Hornets matched them the rest of the way. Colton Lin led the Hornets with 12, Noah Therapos had 9, and Niko Therapos had 7.
Freshman A Tuesday, January 30th - Hinsdale South 57 Addison Trail 51 The freshmen hornets were tested at Addison Trail on Tuesday night but came out with the win in overtime 57-51. This was a back and forth game with several lead changes and the blazers held a 3 point lead with 5 seconds left until Jashi Tvelil hit a deep 3 pointer at the buzzer to tie it. Hinsdale South took over from there in overtime scoring on several possessions and putting the contest out of reach. Devin Shah led the way with 26. Tvelil had 9 in the effort. The hornets are now 12-13 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
Saturday, February 3rd - Wheaton North 38 Hinsdale South 36 The freshmen hornets lost a close one to Wheaton North on Saturday 38-36. This one was back and forth with neither team holding more than a 10 point lead at either time. I’m fact, the hornets were down 7 going into the fourth and took the lead late before a Wheaton 3 point shot put the hornets down by 2 and that’s how it ended, with Josh Tvelil’s long three pointer coming up short this time. Devin Shah had 16 in this one, and Simas Mockus chipped in 9. The hornets are 12-14 overall and 5-4 in conference.
Freshman B Tuesday, January 30th - Hinsdale South 41 Addison Trail 29. The Hornets won 41 -29 on Tuesday night. We were led in scoring by Matuzz with 12 points followed up with Andrius with 11 points. Chris Kirov had his best game of the season playing excellent defense and clutch offensive players. A well round victory with everyone playing their role.
Saturday, February 3rd - Wheaton North 35 Hinsdale South 30 The Hornet lost 35 to 30 on Saturday night. We were down 21 to 11 at half time. 3rd quarter we came out and played beautiful basketball with 10 -0 run . We held them to 4 points in 3rd . We went up in the 4th but lost lead after our Andrius foul. Probably our best game of these season . Super proud of the guys
Week of January 22nd
Varsity Thursday, January 25th - Downers Grove South 66 Hinsdale South 57 Hinsdale South drops a tight game versus Downers Grove South 57-66. The hornets are 4-4 in conference play after the contest. The game was physical, electric, and intense but the hornets competed through it all. After a 1st half that saw the Mustangs get out to an early lead, Hinsdale South battled back and had a +12 differential in the third. In the fourth quarter the Hornets came within 2 points behind explosive scoring from Ayden Ferrare and Matthew Peczulis in the period. Ultimately, Hinsdale South played a tough competitive game but the Mustangs were able to escape with the win. The leading scorers for the contest were Matthew Peczulis (21), Jack Weigus (13), Ayden Ferrare (19).
Sophomore The Hornets fell to DGS on Thursday night by a score of 56-47. A talented Mustang team proved to be too much for the young Hornets, hitting 9 three pointers and winning the battle on the boards. The sophomore team debut of freshman Maurice Oglesby Jr was a strong one, scoring 8 points and helping handle pressure from the Mustangs. Noah Therapos and Niko Therapos led the Hornets with 14 and 12 points, respectively. The Hornets showed a ton of fight late in the game, but ultimately fell by 9.
Freshman A The freshmen hornets absolutely dusted rivals downers grove south by a score of 52-25. In the biggest win in recent freshmen memory over the mustangs the hornets took the lead early and never looked back. Leading the way was Jashi Tvelil who dropped a season high 23 in the effort. Next was Simas Mockus with 13 and Tyler Cook and Devin Shah each with 7 apiece. The hornets are now 11-13 overall and 4-4 in conference.
Freshman B Thursday, January 25th - Downers Grove South 40 Hinsdale South 31 The Hornetes played 3 good quarters of basketball and hung right with them. We were lead in sore by Mutazz who had 11 points. We had some big buckets from our bench, but will be looking to sure up our help side defense in our next game.
Week of January 15th
Varsity Monday, January 15th - Metamora 70 Hinsdale South 55 Hinsdale South got off to an early lead versus Metamora but ultimately fell 55-70. The hornets got off to a great start versus a good team and even took the lead in a 1st quarter led by Jack Weigus who started the game with 8. Hinsdale South continued to apply pressure the entire game but Metamora was able to chip away with a 1-6 point differential in each quarter. Despite this Hinsdale South played an impressive game. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Jack Weigus (19) and Brendan Savge (15)
Thursday, January 18th - Hinsdale South 68 Morton 44 Hinsdale South moves above .500 in conference with a win against Morton 68-44. The Hornets came out firing behind an impressive 1-2 punch of Jack Weigus and Adam Flowers. Adam Flowers contributed 13 points in the first quarter alone and remained a consistent scoring option the entire game. The second quarter saw the differential increase even further after staunch defensive pressure from Hinsdale South allowed only 7 points the entire period. The same story followed in the second half and the Hornets earned themselves a 4-3 record in conference play. Leading scorers for the game were Adam Flowers (32) with his first 30+ point varsity performance, Jack Weigus with 13, and Matthew Peczulis contributed 9 points.
JV Saturday, January 20th - Hinsdale South 51 Morton 32 Hinsdale South’s Boys JV team remains unbeaten in conference play after a 51-32 victory versus Morton. The Hornets came out and were the aggressors early and took the lead in the first quarter behind a strong 9 point period from Rohan Tvelil. Hinsdale South kept the pressure on defensively in the quarter to follow, only allowing 3 points and found themselves up by 9 at the half. Tvelil continued to provide steady scoring for the Hornets scoring 8 of their 10 points in the third quarter. In the final period the entire team found their groove with scoring coming from 6 different players on the way to the Hornet victory. Leading scorers from the contest were Rohan Tvelil (19), Lukas Mikatuvicius (9), and Grant Diedrich (7).
Sophomore The sophomore Hornets defeated Morton on the road on Saturday, 50-47. A back and forth battle throughout ended up in the Hornets’ favor. Noah Therapos hit a one-handed quarterback three pointer from our own free throw line right before half to give the Hornets a 3 point lead. Colton Lin made some clutch free throws down the stretch to secure the win. Hamza Truttling and Niko Therapos led with 11 each, and Colton Lin scored 9.
Freshman A The hornets lost a heartbreaker on Thursday night to the Morton mustangs 40-38. Early on the shots weren’t falling for Hinsdale South and the mustangs led by 9 at half. A furious comeback, however, fueled by the trapping zone defense brought the hornets back into the game and actually held the lead with a little over 20 seconds left. A late turnover and foul however gave the mustangs the lead with under 4 seconds and a last ditch attempt to score fell short. Olglesby Jr led Hinsdale South with 14, and shah had 11 in the effort. The freshmen hornets battled a very good Lemont team all the way to the end, but ultimately lost 42-35 on Saturday morning. Down at half by 15, the hornets win the third and fourth quarters but just couldn’t come back the rest of the way. Devin Shah led the way with 12, and Oglesby Jr had 11 in the effort. The hornets are now 10-13 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
Freshman B Thursday, January 18th - Morton 26 Hinsdale South 21 The Horents were lead in scoring by Mutazz. The game was tight the whole way. We lost the lead in the fourth and never recovered. Denim Love played and excellent game on defense.
Saturday, January 20th - Lemont 45 Hinsdale South 29 The Hornets lost 45 - 29. We were down 18 - 22 going into half time. They added to their lead in the 3rd quarter, and we didnt recover. David Haus very solid. playing great defense and strong on the boards.
Week of January 8th
Varsity Tuesday, January 9th - Hinsdale South 60 Leyden 56 Hinsdale South improve to .500 in Conference play with a 60-56 home win against Leyden. The Hornets and the eagles played a game defined by flurrying defenses and poise down the stretch. The game opened with a back and forth first quarter that saw Hinsdale South exit with a 1 point lead. The second quarter was equally as contentious with lead changes but ultimately the hornets went into halftime with a 4 point lead. In the third quarter, Hinsdale South opened up their largest lead of the game (9 points) behind a two headed attack of Jack Weigus and Ayden Ferrare. The game was tightly contested through the finish, but it culminated in a Hinsdale South Victory! Leading scorers for the Hornets were Ayden Ferrare 17, Jack Weigus 16, Brendan Savage 11, and Adam Flowers with 8.
JV Hinsdale South Boys JV team improves to 3-0 versus conference opponents after a 56-33 win against Addison Trail. The Hornets got off to a bit of a slow start in the first quarter but still escaped with a 1 point lead. The second quarter though the tide changed behind a couple key scorers from Nico Therapos and Tohan Tvelil. Hinsdale South also had staunch defensive pressure contributed by Nick Ockrim and Olasupo Akande. The Hornets went ahead 15 points in that quarter and didn’t lay off the pressure since. The game was closed with a Feverish couple possessions from Micholas Boyd who finished the game with 7 points. Other leading scorers for the Hornets were Nico Therapos, Noah Therapos, and Rohan Tvelil who all scored 9 points.
Sophomore The sophomore Hornets defeated Leyden on Tuesday by a score of 52-46 at home. Against the always-tough Leyden 1-2-2 defense, the Hornets held strong and showed a ton of progress dating back to the last matchup at Leyden. The Hornets played outstanding pressure defense and hit 10 threes. Hamza Truttling led the Hornets with 16, Niko Therapos scored 15, and Noah Therapos had 12.
Freshman A The hornets rebounded nicely on Tuesday night with a win over Leyden by a score of 30-24. In doing so they handed the eagles their first conference loss of the season.Both teams ran zone defense in this one with the hornets a little more efficient, allowing their lowest total of the season. Maurice Oglesby Jr was the clear scoring leader with 21 and Simas Mockus chipped in 5. Hinsdale South is now 10-11 overall and 3-3 in conference.
Freshman B Tuesday, January 9th - Hinsdale South 37 Leyden 34 We played a good game. A lot positive energy. We were lead in scoring by Tyler cook and Daven Allen. We closed out the game with a great hustle play from Cook.
Week of January 1st
Varsity Wednesday, January 3rd - Glenbard North 74 Hinsdale South 58 Hinsdale south fails to win the rematch versus Glenbard North with a final score of 58-74. These two teams met again just 6 days after running into each other in the Jack Tosh tournament. The Hornets unfortunately had one of their slowest starts of the year totaling 15 points in the first half to the 36 points of the Panthers. Hinsdale South came out of halftime ready to compete though and outscored not only their first half total, but also the Panthers by 8 points. The deficit was ultimately too much to overcome for the Hornets, but the boys showed their grit to battle back despite the differential. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Jack Weigus 15, Adam Flowers 14, Ayden Ferrare 12, Brendan Savage 9.
Friday, January 5th - Hinsdale South 71 Addison Trail 50 Hinsdale South improve to 2-3 in conference play after a 71-50 win over Addison Trail. The Hornets came out of the gates with a staunch defensive pressure that held the Blazers below 10 points in the first quarter. This coupled with a big second quarter from Matthew Peczulis, who scored 8 of his 9 total points in the period, resulted in a 6 point lead going into the half. The third quarter is where the Hornets really found their stride tripling the prior lead and going up by 18 behind Jack Weigus, Brendan Savage, and Ayden Ferrare’s triple headed attack. The Fourth quarter improved on the lead but the game was effectively decided in the third. Leading scorers were Jack Weigus 21, Brendan Savage and Ayden Ferrare with 12 points respectively, and Adam Flowers finished with 10.
Saturday, January 6th - Plainfield North 56 Hinsdale South 56 Hinsdale South let the lead escape them versus Plainfield North in a game that ended 47-56. Hinsdale South came out and had an outstanding first quarter that saw 5 separate players score and setup an early 10 point lead for the Hornets. This would be the most complete quarter played by the team though, as the Tigers began to mount a come back in the second quarter cutting the lead to just 4. This game was scrappy and contentious the entire way as evidenced by a 2 point differential going into the fourth that still saw Hinsdale South ahead. Late in the stretch though a chippy possession and some costly late free throws ultimately spelled the demise of the Hornets winning both games of the back to back. Hinsdale South’s leading scorer was Jack Weigus with 27.
Sophomore The sophomore Hornets fell to Glenbard North for the second game in a row, 50-32. A rough shooting night for the Hornets led to an early deficit that South struggled to comeback from. A GBN team looking to make it a messy game sped the Hornets up, which led to east points for the Panthers. Chase Edwards played a great game, leading us with 13 points. Isaiah Burton and Noah Therapos had 6 points each.
The sophomore Hornets defeated Addison Trail 52-40 on Friday night. Down 9 at half, Addison Trail battled to take the lead at the end of the third quarter. The Hornets stormed back in the fourth quarter with a ton of resiliency, outscoring the Blazers 15-2 in the period. Niko Therapos and Noah Therapos led us with 14 points each, and Isaiah Burton and Chase Edwards each had 7. The Hornets have a quick turnaround, taking on Plainfield North at home Saturday!
The sophomore Hornets fell to Plainfield North 49-31 on Saturday. A close game in the first half went in the Tigers’ direction as the Hornets got out-rebounded by a large margin. Niko Therapos led us with 13. The Hornets next play on Tuesday against Leyden at home!
Freshman A The freshmen hornets beat Glenbard North on Wednesday night by a score of 36-33. In a game that was closer than it should have been, the hornets ultimately pulled it out due to solid rebounding and some clutch free throws by Maurice Oglesby Jr at the end. Oglesby Jr led the hornets with 9 and Devin Shah d 8 in the win. The hornets are 8-10 on the season and 1-3 in conference.
The freshmen hornets were challenged in their win over Addison Trail on Friday afternoon, but ultimately pulled it out with a score of 48-45. Poor shooting was the story of this one early as Hinsdale South found itself down by five at half. But defensive intensity led to a hornet run that the blazers could not recover from in the end. Devin Shah led the way with 22 and Maurice Oglesby Jr chipped in 12 in the effort. The hornets are now 9-10 on the season and 2-3 in conference.
The freshmen hornets lost another close and scrappy one to Plainfield North on Saturday by a score of 35-32. This one was all about defense as both teams ran zones, which kept the scoring low overall. In the end, a few untimely turnovers cost Hinsdale South. Rebounding has improved tremendously for this team and the over all effort was excellent. Simas Mockus led the way with 13, and Devin Shah had 9. The hornets are 9-11 overall and 2-3 in conference.
Freshman B Wednesday, January 3rd - Glenbard North 40 Hinsdale South 35 We came out with a strong first quarter. We held them to 5 points. We had a bad second and 3rd quarter . We finished strong but couldn’t get over the hump. We were led in scoring by Tyler cook . Mudhav Luthra had a career high 8 points!
Friday, January 5th - Hinsdale South 42 Addison Trail 27 Hornets win! 42 to 27.. The team step in a big way. Leading the game start to finish. We were lead with great defense by Love and chrisman. Tyler cook lead us in scoring with 15 . Chris Kirov play his best game of the season.
Saturday, January 6th - Hinsdale South 38 Plainfield North 37 Hornets win! We were lead in scoring by Tyler cook with 12 points. Madhav and Mutazz with big 3’s in the 4th. Chrisman hits the go ahead layup with 3 seconds left to give the hornets the win!!!!
Week of December 25th
Varsity Tuesday, December 26th - York 63 Hinsdale South 26 Hinsdale South lost the first game of the Jack Tosh Tournament to host York with a final score of 26-63. The hornets did not have a double digit scorer but sophomore Adam Flowers had 9. Hinsdale South is battling injuries to key players but look to bounce back shortly.
Wednesday, December 27th - Glenbard North 67 Hinsdale South 49 Hinsdale South can’t right the ship just yet as they fall to Glenbard North 49-67. The positives from this game would be that the Hornets battled the entire game despite an early deficit in the first quarter. With a number of lineups being put on the court for the first time the players worked hard and had something to show for it with leading scorers Ayden Ferrare and Adam Flowers contributing 12 points each. Brendan Savage nearly missed double digits with 9 points.
Thursday, December 28th - Hinsdale South 58 Nazareth 57 Hinsdale South win a thriller versus Nazareth Academy 58-57! The game was a dog fight from the opening tip and Hinsdale South found themselves up by 4 to end the fourth quarter. However the Hornets actually lost the lead and trailed by 2 going into halftime. They continued to battle and took the lead again with 2 minutes remaining in the game. The roadrunners scored to take a 1 point lead with 14 seconds on the clock. With no timeouts the Hornets moved the ball around until it found Ayden Ferrare who scored the winning layup at the buzzer. Leading scorers for the game were Matthew Peczulis 17, Adam Flowers 14, Brendan Savage 10, and Ayden Ferrare 7 points 9 rebounds, 1 game winner
Friday, December 29th - St. Patrick 84 Hinsdale South 67 Hinsdale South couldn’t escape the Jack Tosh tournament with an even record. After ultimately losing to St. Patrick 67-84. The Hornets and the Shamrocks were battling hard in the first half. The shamrocks took an early 2 point lead to close the 1st quarter but Hinsdale south cut it to just 1 by halftime. Even after a third quarter that was lower scoring for Hinsdale South the differential going into the fourth was just 5 points. Unfortunately key players in foul trouble and a surge from St. Patrick put the game out of reach for the hornets. Leading scorers for the game were Jack Weigus 21, Ayden Ferrare 16, Brendan Savage 12, and Matthew Peczulis 11
Sophomore
Freshman A The hornets were out hustled by Lincoln Way West to start off their Christmas tournament on Tuesday by a score of 50-30. The 1-2-2 zone also gave them trouble on the offensive end of things as Hinsdale South was held to a score in the 30s for only the 6th time this year. Maurice Oglesby Jr led the way with 12 as all other hornets were in single digits. Hinsdale South is now 6-8 on the season and 1-3 in conference.
The freshmen hornets defeated west Chicago by a score of 65-20 on Wednesday at the Christmas tournament. In a game where the hornets first tried out the 1-3-1 defense and it obviously didn’t disappoint. Devin Shah once again led the way with 21. Simas Mockus also hit 4 three pointers in the win. The hornets are now 7-8 on the season and 1-3 in conference.
The freshmen hornets dropped another tough one to Wheaton Warrenville South by a score of 51-14 on Thursday in their host Christmas tournament. Scoring was clearly hard to come by in this one as the longer and bigger WWS team was tough to crack on defense. No hornet had more than 6 points in the contest, although that was Devin Shah again. Hinsdale South is 7-9 on the season and 1-3 in conference.
The freshmen hornets lost a spirited battle vs DePaul Prep on the final day of the Christmas tournament by a score of 55-38. The game was back and forth for most the time until the size of DePaul Prep was the difference down the stretch. Devin Shah had 12 in the effort and Jashi Tvelil had 13. The hornets are now 7-10 on the season and 1-3 in conference.

Tuesday, December 26th - Lincoln Way West 51 Hinsdale South 28 The Hornets came out pretty flat. Seem to be a Holiday hangover. They look to rebound tomorrow. The team was led in scoring by Colton Campbell.
Wednesday, December 27th - Hinsdale South 39 West Chicago 34 The Hornets had a good rebound against West Chicago. Coming out with more energy and leading most of the game the Hornets were able to close out the 4th quarter with a win. The team was led in Scoring by Tyler Cook.
Thursday, December 28th - Wheaton Warrenville South 45 Hinsdale South 17 The Hornets faced a tough Wheaton Warrenville South team. Hornets were never able to get it going and end up losing a tough game.
Friday, December 29th - DePaul Prep 44 Hinsdale South 33 The Hornets played a tough game again DePaul Prep. Some early mistakes made it hard for the Hornets to rebound, but the effort was great just came up short.
Week of December 18th
Varsity Tuesday, December 19th - Evergreen Park 59 Hinsdale South 50 Hinsdale South fails to seal the deal against Evergreen Park with a final score of 50-59. The Hornets held a commanding 12 point lead going into half time but were outscored by 20 in the third quarter. Hinsdale south had lost two of their starters to injury in this at that point. The leading scorers for the Hornets were Adam Flowers with 13 and Ayden Ferrare with 10.
Friday, December 22nd - Hinsdale South 55 Willowbrook 43 Hinsdale South earn their first conference win against Willowbrook 55-43. This game was tightly contested but saw the hornets leading early after taking a 5 point lead in the first quarter. This lead was built on the backs of a starting lineup that had 2 players recording their first varsity starts this season in Nick Ockrim and Colton Lin. The lead was down to 3 to end the first half and cut even closer still to just 2 points at the start of the fourth quarter. However that is as close as the lead would get as Ayden Ferrare poured in 10 points in that quarter alone to help the hornets secure the victory. Leading scorers for the hornets were Ayden Ferrare (21), Rohan Tvelil (11), and Gemarion Alexander (9).
Sophomore The sophomore Hornets defeated Evergreen Park by a score of 67-57 on Tuesday night. A hot first quarter saw the Hornets lead 27-12, and the team never looked back. Niko Therapos led with a monster effort, scoring 25 points with 5 threes. Colton Lin scored 18. The Hornets will next take on conference foe Willowbrook on Friday night!
Freshman A The freshmen hornets started finals week off right on Tuesday night with a win over Evergreen Park by a score of 56-28. Maurice Oglesby Jr led the way with 17 in this one, and Simas Mockus chipped in 12 in an easy win for Hinsdale South. The hornets are now 6-6 overall and 1-3 in conference.
The freshmen hornets dropped an intense game to Willowbrook on Friday night 64-57. The story of this one, however, was that the hornets fell down by 23 at halftime due to some very hot shooting by the warriors. A frenzied comeback, led by Devin Shah (20 pts) and Simas Mockus (14 pts) cut the score to a one point deficit with 3 min left in the contest. Unfortunately, despite some opportunities at good looks the warriors pulled it out in the end. Hinsdale South is now 6-7 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
Freshman B Wednesday, December 20th - Hinsdale South 38 Reavis 27 Hornets over came a 4 point deficit in the 2nd quarter and lead the rest of the way. The team moved to ball and played solid defense. Colton Campbell lead the team in points with 14. Mutazz had an excellent defense performance locking down there best scorer to 3 points in the 3 quarters. We hope to bring same energy and grit to Fridays game at willowbrook.
Friday, December 22nd - Hinsdale South 28 Willowbrook 46 The team was a flat today. With a very slow first half but came out strong in the second half. Unable to come back though. We were led in scoring by Mutazz. I think some time of will help them come back focused for our Christmas Tournament next week.
Week of December 11th
Varsity Tuesday, December 12th - Hinsdale South 79 Richards 47 Hinsdale South Boys Basketball completed a program sweep tonight with a Varsity win over Richards. The final score was 79-47. The Hornets opened up a 5-0 lead and didn’t relinquish it the entire game. By the end of the first quarter, Jack Weigus, Adam Flowers, and Gemarion Alexander all found themselves with at least 6 or more points. This would be a trend the entire game as those players finished as the leading scorers. Jack Weigus recorded another 30+ point game this season (30 tonight), Adam Flowers and Gemarion Alexander both added in 12 points of their own. Those 3 players absolutely shined, but the Hornets owe this win to their strong team basketball, and defense by committee. The teamwork on display tonight was truly a fun sight.
Friday, December 15th - Proviso East 74 Hinsdale South 61 Hinsdale South falls to Proviso East 61-74 in a game that was closer than the final score indicates. The Hornets battled valiantly opening the game with a 1st quarter lead that saw meaningful contribution from Adam Flowers, Jack Weigus, Matthew Peczulis who all tallied between 3 and 5 points in the period. Despite this though the Pirates had a strong showing in the second and third quarters. Hinsdale South continued to battle and even won the differential in the fourth quarter but the lead Proviso East built earlier in the game was too much to overcome. Adam Flowers led the hornets in scoring with 15 points, and Jack Weigus and Matthew Peczulis both finished with 12 points each.
Saturday, December 16th - Plainfield East 53 Hinsdale South 51 Hinsdale South loses a nail biter versus Plainfield East 51-53. In a game that was ultimately decided by two shot attempts in the final 20 seconds of the game, it’s no wonder 3/4 quarters had a differential of 3 or less points. The lone quarter that had a larger differential was the 3rd but the Hornets battled in the 4th quarter to overcome a 10 point deficit. The game was tied until Plainfield scored a 2 point dagger with 3 seconds remaining. Hinsdale south setup and was able to get the ball to Adam Flowers who shot a halfcourter that rattled around for what felt like an eternity before sadly bouncing out. The Hornets were led in scoring by Jack Weigus (15), and Gemarion Alexander (12)
Sophomore The sophomore Hornets notched their first win of the season on Tuesday as they defeated Richards on the road, 45-38. The young Hornets showed a lot of progress in handling pressure as they were able to take care of the ball in the fourth quarter against a tough Bulldog press. Noah Therapos led the scoring with 18 points, Niko Therapos had 8, and Isaiah Burton and Chase Edwards had 6 each.
The sophomore Hornets fell to Proviso East at home on Friday night, 45-39. The Hornets had a great first half, leading 23-14 at the break. In the second half, the Pirates brought pressure and the young Hornets struggled to find their footing. A 3 point game with 20 seconds left, the Hornets got valuable reps handling pressure against a talented Proviso East team. The Hornets have a quick turnaround, taking on Plainfield East on Saturday at home.
The sophomore Hornets fell to a very strong Plainfield East team by a score of 50-48 in overtime on Saturday. It was again a tale of two halves for the Hornets as a 9 point halftime lead quickly shrunk in the third quarter. The Hornets had a tough time hitting shots late in the game, and ultimately couldn’t overcome a furious Bengal comeback. In his return to the sophomore team, Colton Lin led the Hornets with points. Niko Therapos scored 10 and Noah Therapos scored 9.
Freshman A The freshmen hornets won convincingly against the Richards bulldogs on Tuesday night by a score of 47-23. The hornets simply overwhelmed Richards in this one, with Devin Shah scoring 18 and and Jash Tvelil chipping in 12. The big men combo of Cook and Haus also also combined for 11 in the all around effort. The hornets are now 4-5 on the season and 0-2 in conference.
The freshmen hornets beat the proviso east pirates convincingly on Friday night 57-39. Once again Devin Shah led all scorers in the effort with 21. Meanwhile Jashi Tvelil chipped in a strong 17. The game was really never in doubt. The hornets even their record at 5-5 overall and 1-2 in conference.
The hornets dropped one to Plainfield East on Saturday afternoon 70-54. In a high scoring affair that resulted in a high paced game the hornets were caught a little off guard in this one, despite a fierce attempt to make a comeback after getting down early. The scoring was spread nicely though between Devin Shah who had 15, Maurice Oglesby Jr with 11, and Jashi Tvelil with 13. The hornets are now 5-6 on the season and 1-2 in conference.
Freshman B Saturday, 12/9 vs Leyden The Freshman B team played their best game of the season against Leyden. Andrius had a stellar 4th quarter, scoring 13 of his 16 points during this period. He made a crucial steal leading to a fast break that tied the game. Unfortunately, a couple of late turnovers cost us, and we lost 35 to 32. I'm very proud of the boys. They played their best game yet, and I'm confident more great performances are on the horizon.
12/15 vs Proviso East The team faced one of their toughest starts this season. Down two critical players, they showed resilience and battled hard. Despite giving up 18 points in the 3rd quarter, we rallied impressively in the fourth, limiting them to just 4 points. With only two seconds left, a tough break with the whistle halted our momentum.
12/17 vs Plainfield East We had our strongest start of the year, opening the first quarter with a 14-4 lead and heading into halftime up 16-14. However, our early third-quarter and early fourth-quarter struggles persisted, conceding a game-high 15 points in the 4th. Campbell led our scoring with 13 points. The team is showing improvement and learning with each game; we just need to put all the pieces together to turn the tide.
Week of December 4th
Varsity Tuesday, December 5th - Hinsdale Souh 67 Nazareth 61 Hinsdale South protected their home court with a 67-61 victory over Nazareth Academy on Tuesday. The Hornets and the Roadrunners had a back and forth first half. Hinsdale South was ahead in the 1st quarter, but ultimately the score was tied by halftime. Throughout the game the Hornets went on a few runs opening the lead and ultimately sustained it through the 3rd and 4th quarters. Hinsdale South was spurred on by huge shots from Jack Weigus and poised play from Matas Peczulis who finished with 26 and 17 respectively. The game was tightly contested, physical, and was fittingly put away by a made field goal and 1 foul from Adam Flowers who finished with 8 points. Other leading scorers for the Hornets were Ayden Ferrare and Gemarion Alexander who both had 6 points.
Saturday, December 9th - Leyden 69 Hinsdale South 63 Hinsdale South drops a tightly contested game at Leyden 63-69 on Saturday. The hornets found themselves in early foul trouble but were spurred to a first half lead behind a strong 1st quarter scoring from Jack Weigus and a strong second quarter from Matthew Peczulis. An impressive 3rd quarter from Leyden’s Drelyn Jones, who scored 18 of the teams 20 third quarter points, gave the home team the advantage and the hornets could not overcome the deficit. Leading scorers for the Hornets were Jack Weigus 19, Matthew Peczulis 18, Adam Flowers 9 and Brendan Savage with 6.
JV Hinsdale South’s boys JV lost their first game of the season 39-42 to Benet Acadamy in a game that came down to the last possession. After finding themseleves behind by 3 to end the third quarter the hornets battled back and held the lead for nearly the rest of the game up until the final 2 minutes. Even still the hornets continued to battle and found themselves with the ball for a last second attempt that ultimately didn’t connect. Hinsdale South was led in scoring by Noah Therapos with 9, Colton Lin and Rohan Tvelli with 7 each, and Lukas Mikutavicius with 6.
Hinsdale South’s boys JV bounce back in a big way versus Leyden with a final score of 57-40. The Hornets opened up an early 6 point lead in the first quarter that saw points from 5/6 players who suited up. The second quarter is when Hinsdale South turned the corner. Led by a three point barrage from Lukas Mikutavicius and Rohan Tvelil who recorded 12 and 8 points in the quarter respectively. The hornets found themselves up 39-15 at the half and they continued onto victory from there. Leading scorers for the contest were Lukas Mikutavicius with 24, Rohan Tvelil with 17, and Grant Diedrich with 7.
Sophomore The sophomore Hornets fell to Nazareth 59-47 on Tuesday. A 3 point game at halftime quickly grew to a 17 point Nazareth lead as the Hornets dealt with some struggles on the defensive end, but once again the Hornets never gave up and continued to fight, which is a great starting point for the team moving forward in this young season. Noah Therapos led the Hornets with 18 points, Chase Edwards scored 10, and Niko Therapos scored 8. The Hornets will next take on Leyden on the road on Saturday!
Freshman A The freshmen hornets won on Tuesday night 49-45 vs Nazareth in a game that was double digits most the time before the opponent closed in towards the end. This is the second time Hinsdale South faced a zone defense, which slowed scoring initially but eventually it was figured out. Olglesby Jr led the way with 16 and Devin Shah had 13 in the effort. The hornets are 3-4 overall and 0-1 in conference.
The freshmen hornets lost a tight one against Leyden on Saturday afternoon 39-36. After the eagles got out to a quick lead the hornets cut into it so that the score was tied at half. Then Hinsdale south took the lead by 5 before Leyden once again tied the game. It was back and for from there until ultimately the eagles made a late 3 point shot and that ended up being the difference. Simas Mockus had 16 in the effort and Devin Shah had 14. The hornets are now 3-5 overall and 0-2 in conference.
Freshman B Dec 5th: The Hornets started strong against Nazareth, trailing by just one point at halftime (19-18). Andrius Valincius (12 points) and Mutazz Shahbain (11 points) led the scoring effort. While the game was within reach, mental errors at crucial moments reappeared, preventing a victory. The Hornets continue to improve but need to maintain focus during critical periods of the game.
Week of November 27th
Varsity Tuesday, November 28th - Hinsdale South 56 Glenbard South 52 Hinsdale south wins their first home game against Glenbard South with a final score 56-52. The Hornets have won their last 3 games by an average of 44 points. Hinsdale South’s defense showed up big to start the game with a 12 point 1st quarter lead and they never let up. The game did come down to the wire, but not once did Hinsdale South give up their lead. Captains Jack Weigus and Matthew Peczulis helped secure another hornet victory with 18 and 24 points respectively.
Friday, December 1st - Downers Grove South 81 Hinsdale South 56 Hinsdale South drops a tough one versus Downers Grove south 56-81. In a rivalry game that had a playoff atmosphere about it the Hornets were going shot for shot to start the game but did not finish the first quarter how they wanted. Finding themselves down by 13 to start the second, Hinsdale South spent the rest of the game battling from behind. The Hornets fought valiantly in the third quarter, nearly cutting the lead to single digits, led by an Adam Flowers scoring outburst. Ultimately though, the early lead was held and the Hornets couldn’t quite overcome it. Leading scorers for the hornets were Adam Flowers with 18, Matthew Peczulius with 13, Jack Weigus with 10, and Ayden Ferrare with 8.
JV Hinsdale South’s Boys JV team secures a win in their first game of the season 57-45 versus Downers Grove South. Sophomore The sophomore Hornets lost a tough one against Glenbard South on Tuesday, 46-40. Despite a blazing hot first half, the Hornets lost control of the game late in the second half, struggling on both sides of the ball. Rebounding was an issue all night, and allowed Glenbard South many second chances. Niko Therapos led the Hornets with 12 points, Noah Therapos scored 10, and Isaiah Burton scored 8.
The sophomore Hornets fell to rival Downers South on Friday night, 59-38. The Mustangs started out extremely hot from the field, which caused the Hornets to play from behind very early on. The Hornets never gave up, and the final score was not indicative of what was a close game early in the fourth quarter. Niko Therapos led the Hornets with 17 points on 5 3's, and Hamza Truttling added 9. Freshman A The freshmen hornets dropped one to glenbard south on Tuesday night 44-34. This game went back and forth and the hornets had the early lead but ultimately failure to rebound against the bigger Raiders ended up as the deciding factor. olglesby Jr had 8 in the contest and Shah snd Cook each had 10 in the loss. The hornets are now 2-3 and have yet to play a conference game.
The hornets lost a tight one to the rival DGS mustangs Friday night by a score of 46-42. Free throws were the story in this one as the more aggressive Hinsdale south got to the line much more often but missed 15 free throws. Devin Shah led the way with 14 while Simas Mockus chipped in 10 in the effort. The hornets are now 2-4 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
Freshman B Nov 27th: Led by Andrius Valincius' career-high 14 points and Mutazz Shahbain's 10 points, the Hornets played two strong quarters, including a dominant second quarter where they held Glenbard South to only 4 points. However, lapses in focus and fatigue led to errors in the fourth quarter, resulting in a 45-34 loss.
Dec 1st: In a low-energy game against crosstown rival Downers Grove South, the Hornets battled hard until the final whistle. Andrius Valincius and Colton Campbell led the team in scoring, but Downers Grove South ultimately won 40-20.
Week of November 20th
Varsity Monday, November 21st - Thornwood 71 Hinsdale South 66 Hinsdale South loses a tight game defined by scrappy possessions and foul trouble. After multiple hornets starters fouled out with 1 minute left, Colton Lin hit a huge corner 3 to give South a lead with 15 seconds remaining. A wild 3 point make from Thornwood forced an overtime where the hornets ultimately fell. Leading scorers from the game for the Hornets were Jack Weigus 26 points, Adam Flowers 13 points, and Matthew Peczulis with 12 points.
Wednesday, November 22nd - Riverside Brookfield 86 Hinsdale South 71 Hinsdale South falls to Riverside Brookfield 86-71. The game began with a poised first quarter that concluded with the Hornets leading by 3. However, the quarter that followed was played at a pace that benefited the Bulldogs. Hinsdale South continued to fight the entirety of the game, but key players being in foul trouble proved too much to overcome. Led behind an impressive 34 points by Jack Weigus and some sharp shooting from Matthew Peczulis added 19 points.
Friday, November 24th - Hinsdale South 100 Hancook 10 Hinsdale South cruise over the Hancock Eagles 100-10 for Coach Mike Belcaster’s inaugural win as Hinsdale South’s varsity head coach. The Hornets jumped out to a commanding 34-3 lead in the first quarter and didn’t look back. Hinsdale South received contribution from the entire roster with every player save 1 scoring. Leading scorers for the hornets Jack Weigus scored 20, both Adam Flowers and Aiden Ferrare (who made his first appearance for the hornets this season) scored 14.
Saturday, November 25th - Hinsdale South 83 Zion Benton 45 Hinsdale South find their first winning streak of the season with an 83-45 victory over Zion Benton. Defense was a focal point for the team today and that started with Center Gemarion Alexander who had several huge defensive stops and 11 points. This game saw action from much of the roster but most notably, Adam Flowers was the leading scorer with 23 points. Jack Weigus had his 4th straight 20+ point performance with 21 points. Finally, Ayden Ferrare recorded his first start of the season and turned in 14 point.
Sophomore The sophomore Hornets began their season on Wednesday, Novmeber 22nd with a tough loss to St. Ignatius 56 to 24. The young Hornets kept the game competitive for a while, trailing by just 6 in the third quarter, but ultimately suffered a tough loss against a talented and well-coached team. Noah Therapos led the Hornets with 11 points and Hamza Truttling scored 8. The sophomore Hornets will continue play at the R-B Thanksgiving Tournament against conference opponent Morton on Friday!
The sophomore Hornets fell to Morton in overtime, 44-40 (OT). The young Hornets trailed by as much as 16 before a furious third and fourth quarter effort propelled the Hornets to the lead. After Niko Therapos’s 2 OT-forcing free throws, the Hornets played a close period but ultimately fell short. Noah Therapos hit 5 threes and scored 17 and Niko Therapos had 11. Hamza Truttling had an outstanding game defensively as well. The Hornets will finish Thanksgiving against host R-B tomorrow!
The sophomore Hornets fell to host Riverside Brookfield 62-51 to finish off the weekend. Despite some furious runs from the Hornets, RB was ultimately able to hit some big shots down the stretch to ice a game that was close throughout. Noah Therapos once again led the Hornets with 24 points, Hamza Truttling scored 11, and Niko Therapos had 10. The Hornets look forward to their first home game of the season on Tuesday against Glenbard South!
Freshman A The freshmen hornets opened up their 2023-24 season with a win over Dundee Crown 41-22 on Monday night at the St Viator thanksgiving tournament. Maurice Oglesby Jr had 8 and Simas Mockus led the way with 20 in the fox to run behind some pretty solid defense for such an early test. The young hornets open the season at 1-0 overall and 0-0 in conference.
In game 2 of the St Viator holiday tournament the freshmen hornets dropped and exciting and close one to the hosting team 39-36. Hinsdale South did a fantastic job breaking the zone press, which resulted in only two turnovers for St Viator, but couldn’t quite make the shots that counted down the stretch to come back all the way to victory. Simas Mockus had 10 in the effort to lead the way, followed by Devin Shah. The hornets are not 1-1 on the season and have yet to play a conference game.
The freshmen hornets won convincingly on Wednesday night over Montini 49-38. This game was a story of three point shooting. Devin Shah led the way with 12 points, Maurice Olglesby Jr also had 12, while Josh Tvelil chipped in 10. Rebounding was also solid for the hornets in this one which allowed for several second chance opportunities. The young hornets are now 2-1 on the season and have yet to play in conference. Tomorrow’s matchup vs Prospect will likely determine who wins the St Viator thanksgiving tournament, with Hinsdale South as one of the three teams vying for that prize.
The freshmen hornets lost a tight one on Friday night against a prospect 42-39. This game went right down to the wire with some excellent execution by Maurice Oglesby Jr, who created several layups for himself and timely scoring by Devin Shah. Ultimately though the hornets were beat by a foul and one call with .5 seconds left on the clock. The young hornets will be a team to watch as they are now 2-2 but the two losses were by a combined 6 points.
Freshman B Nov 21st: The Hornets started their season against Reavis High School, falling behind 18-8 at halftime. However, the Hornets displayed a remarkable comeback in the third quarter, holding Reavis to two points. The players embraced the defensive challenge, but despite their efforts, the Hornets fell short, losing 34-27 to Reavis.
Nov 22nd: The Hornets struggled against Evergreen Park, missing 12 free throws and allowing 10 offensive rebounds. Evergreen Park's strong shooting guard proved difficult to contain, and the Hornets ultimately fell 56-22.
