Sophomore Last Week Highlights: In our last couple of games on the road we were lead by two different outstanding Hornets. The first one being Trae Burke who lead our team in scoring once again with 12 points grabbing 3 rebounds and shooting a solid 3 for 4 from the free-throw line. In our final game versus Lincoln Way West we were lead by Alex Mazur in scoring who had a strong showing with 17 points and 4 rebounds.
Freshman A The freshmen hornets won conference on Tuesday night with a 42-31 win over the Morton Mustangs. Grant Dietrich was hot again tonight and led the hornets in scoring, while Taeshawn Wilson came up big with rebounding vs the 2-3 zone that gave the hornets a lot of second chances on offense. Hinsdale South finishes the regular season at 14-11 overall and a conference winning 10-2.

Sophomore Weekly Highlights: A busy week for our Hornets on the road with our first game in Lemont being lead other than Alex Mazur who scored 11 points for us on 50% 3 point shooting going 3 /6. In out second contest of the week against conference rival Addison Trail we were lead by team captain Olasupo Akande with 14 points and 4 steals as well as Alex Mazur who scored 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
Freshman A The freshmen hornets played a tough vs Lemont on Wednesday night but ultimately lost 50-40. Grant Dietrich led the way with some clutch scoring throughout and the hornet press came up big, but in the end Lemont just made a few more shots. HS is 12-11 overall and 8-2 in conference
The hornets won on Friday night against the Addison Trail Blazers 50-43 to break a couple game slide. Once again Grant Dietrich came up big in this one on the offensive end, though the hornet press forced several turnovers to get extra possessions in what was, at times, a close and sloppy game. Hinsdale South is now 13-11 overall and 9-2 in conference.
Freshman B The Hornets hung tight with Lemont throughout the majority of the game. In the end, missed shots on good open looks ended up hurting the Hornets as they fell 31-20. The leading scorer for the Hornets was Aiden LaPat with 6 points while multiple players added 4 point games as well. The next game will be on Friday when the Hornets take on Addison Trail on the road.
The Hornets played Addison Trial tough yet again but fell short as they lost by a final score of 31-27. After a terrible first half, and beginning of 3rd quarter, the Hornets found themselves trailing by 20. They didn’t quit, however, and with 2:00 to play they found themselves down by only 8. They wound up being only a few key scores short of the win as they couldn’t quite complete the lofty comeback. Jad Kawass led the night in scoring with 10 points. The Hornets play their final regular season conference game on Tuesday at Morton.

Sophomore Top Performers: This was a busty week for the Hornets. We were lead in our contest versus Proviso East by Trae Burke who had a monster game offensively with 24 points and lead the team with 5 rebounds and 4 steals as well. In our game versus Leyden on Friday our top performers were Alex Mazur with 4 points and 4 Rebounds and Kyrell Caine with 4points and 3 rebounds. In our final game with Lyons this week out best performance there was Davon Williams with 6 points and 3 rebounds.
Freshman A The freshmen hornets dusted proviso East on Tuesday night 52-13. The scoring was spread around pretty good in this one with Rohan Tevlil leading the way with 8, along with Grant Dietrich. Lofton and Hardrick also had 6 each. The hornets are now 12-8 overall and 8-1 in conference.
The freshmen hornets dropped a heartbreaker to Leyden on Friday night 39-38. Leyden came out hot in this one and held a 9 point lead at half before Hinsdale South came storming back. Some Strong defensive possessions and hot shooting by Grant Dietrich and Luke Mikutavicius cut the lead to one, but with hornet possession at 30 sec left in the game but the hornet shot and put back came up short at the buzzer. The hornets are now 12-9 overall and 8-2 in conference.
The freshmen hornets were scrappy in this one but ultimately lost 40-27 to LT on Saturday afternoon. Hinsdale South was able to cut it to 7 late, but ultimately Lyon’s size was too much down the stretch. Grant Dietrich led the scoring with 11 for the hornets, who are now 12-10 overall and 8-2 in conference.
Freshman B The Hornets kept their win streak alive and won their 3rd straight against Proviso East 60-26. They led from start to finish, even jumping out to a 17-3 lead in the first quarter. Great defense, rebounding, and strong finishes at the rim propelled the Hornets to their win. They were led in scoring by Jad Kawass who put in 13 points and had many key rebounds. The Hornets will be back in action on Friday as they travel to Leyden looking to make it four straight wins.
The Hornets lost a hard fought game to Leyden 26-18. Offense was hard to come by as the Hornets struggled to hit shots against the Leyden zone. Stellar defense kept them in the game all the way to the final whistle. After losing by 20+ points earlier in the year, the Hornets showed their significant improvement and ability to hang with any team. They were led in scoring by Fredrick Finnegan who scored 6 points. The Hornets are back in action tomorrow night taking on Lyons Township on the road.

Sophomore This was a busy week for our Hornets with three games. In the first one against Maine South our club was lead by team captains Trae Burke and Olasupo Akande with 15 and 9 points respectively. In a tough overtime game versus conference rival Willowbrook we had multiple contributors standouts were Trae Burke with 16 points, Olasupo Akande with 11 points and 4 assists, and Alex Mazur with 14 points and 6 rebounds. In our third contest versus Central Burlington we were lead once again in scoring by Trae Burke with 18 points.
Freshman A The hornets lost at Maine South on Tuesday night 50-39. This was a tough one for Hinsdale South as the Hawks ran some stuff we haven’t seen yet and took a while to adjust to. The scoring was pretty spread out in this one, with new contributions by Luke Mikutavicius and Gimarrion Alexander, plus the usual scoring by Madden and Dietrich. The hornets are now 10-7 overall and 6-1 in conference.
The freshmen hornets won in convincing fashion on Friday night over the willowbrook Warriors 47-27. It was a solid effort by all as the warriors were pretty much dusted from the beginning. Tommy Madden led the team with 10 this time, and Lucas Mikutavicius chipped in 9. Grant Dietrich was also solid with 7. The hornets are now 11-7 overall and 7-1 in conference. The freshmen hornets lost a tough battle on Saturday against Burlington Central 36-28. Obviously it was a tough shooting day for Hinsdale south in this one, though the defense was scrappy as usual. Dietrich led all scorers with 12. The hornets are now 11-8 overall and 7-1 in conference.
Freshman B The Hornets lost 52-15 to Maine South. Maine South were able to jump out to an early lead and hit many big shots, while the Hornets struggled to put the ball in the basket. Despite good looks, they struggled to execute. Aiden LaPat led the Hornets in scoring with 6 points. The Hornets have some big conference games coming up in the near future starting with Willowbrook on Friday.
The Hornets notched another big conference win over Willowbrook by a score of 39-26. They jumped out to an early lead with some great half court defense and some great scores while attacking the basket. The Hornets maintained a near 10 point lead throughout the second half and were able to hang out to get a huge win. Fredrick Finnegan led the Hornets with a season-high 19 points in a dominant post performance. The Hornets will be back in action tomorrow night against Central High School.
The Hornets got their second win in as many nights as they defeated Central High School 47-41. The Hornets came out a little sluggish and found themselves down by 9 points at half. They battled back hard in the second half, fought through foul trouble and came back to take the lead in the 4th quarter. Damian Banuelos-Lesko stepped up and hit 3 huge 3-pointers in the 4th quarter. He ended the game with 12 points and Fredrick Finnegan was the leading scorer on the night with 13 points. The Hornets will be back in action on Tuesday as they take on Proviso East at home.

Sophomore Weekly Highlights: This week our Hornets were lead against conference rival Morton by none other than the man in the middle Davon “Big Cat” Williams. Williams lead our Hornets in rebounds with 8, and scored 9 points on 60% shooting from the field and 75% from the free throw line.
Freshman A The Hinsdale south freshmen kept it rolling against Morton on Saturday afternoon with a scrappy win 37-30. The mustang zone caused some problems early but ultimately 9 pts by Tommy Madden and 7 by Grant Dietrich was enough to give the hornets the victory. Hinsdale south is now 10-6 on the season and 6-1 in conference.
Freshman B The Hornets got their first win of the season tonight! Overtime was needed to settle the score in a very scrappy affair. The Hornets only scored 4 points in overtime, but held Morton to 0 points in the period. The final score ended 32-28. Their full court press was highly effective throughout the whole game and the Hornets had great energy from start to finish. They were led in scoring by Jad Kawass and Micholas Boyd who each had 8 points. The Hornets will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to take on Maine South.

Freshman A On a Monday night the Hornets took it to Proviso East 53-17. Hinsdale South jumped up early and never looked back in a game they dominated right from the get go. There was scoring for everyone in this one, but Grant Dietrich and Tommy Madden dominated the second half with solid contributions from Taeshawn Wilson as well. The hornets are 7-6 overall now and 3-1 in the conference.
In a somewhat sloppy game on Tuesday night the freshmen hornets defeated their rivals the DGS Mustangs 33-31 at the buzzer. After taking an early seven point lead at half, the hornets’ poor shooting allowed the Mustangs back into it. Ultimately, Tommy Madden’s two pointer at the buzzer won the game. The hornets are now 8-6 on the season and 4-1 in conference.
The hornets made it three in a row on Friday night with a win 46-34 over Addison Trail hs. Hinsdale south jumped out to a quick lead in this one and never really looked back except for a slow third quarter. Taeshawn Wilson led the freshmen hornets with 15. HS is now 9-6 overall and 5-1 in conference.
Week of January 3rd

Sophomore This week saw our Hornets fall to conference rival Proviso East on the road, we were lead in that contest by Trae Burke and Alex Mazur in scoring with 17 and 10 points respectively. On Saturday we had a chance to improve with the B group against Hinsdale Central where Kyrell Caine was our top performer with three points and two steals. Finally on Saturday night we lost to a tough New Trier team with Trey Burke being our top performer with 18.
Freshman A The freshmen hornets lost an extremely tough game vs New Trier Saturday afternoon 51-41. The lead changed several times in this one before New Trier was able to pull ahead for good late in the fourth. Tommy Madden led all hornet scorers with 16. Hinsdale South is now 6-6 on the season and 2-1 in conference.
Freshman B The short-handed Hornets fought hard against a very disciplined New Trier team. The Hornets were able to attack and get into the lane to get great looks early and often, but weren’t able to convert enough to overcome the halftime deficit. Early in the 4th quarter, the Hornets were able to cut the lead down inside 10 points, but New Trier was able to hang on to win the game 42-28. The Hornets were led in scoring by Micholas Boyd who had a season high 13 points. They will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday night against Proviso East and Downers Grove South.
Week of December 27th

Freshman A The freshmen hornets lost a close one to York on Monday, 32-24. Hinsdale South led by three at half but scoring was difficult in the third quarter against York’s 1-2-2 zone and ultimately the Dukes took the lead and never gave it up. Dietrich led all hornet scorers with 9. The hornets are now 5-4 on the season and 2-1 in conference.
The freshmen hornets played LT down to the wire on Tuesday morning but ended up losing 34-29. In most years LT is a double digit favorite, but this time the hornets came to play. The lead changed a couple times before the Lions went up for good with a 3 point shot and under a minute left to play. Grant Dietrich led the hornets with 8. Hinsdale South is now 5-5 overall and 2-1 in conference.
The freshmen hornets won today against Stagg high school 47-38. After a sluggish start, Hinsdale South poured it on in the second quarter to go into half time tied. Then they dominated the second half behind a strong press and some nice scoring by Rohan Tevlil. South is now 6-5 overall and 2-1 in conference.
Freshman B The Hornets lost on Monday in the Lyons Township Freshman Tournament to York 36-7. The Hornets couldn’t seem to put the ball in the basket. Despite getting good looks on offense and playing good half court defense, they were held to only 7 points throughout the game. Damien Banuelos-Lasko led the Hornets in scoring with 3 points. The Hornets will be back in action tomorrow at 10:00 against Lyons Township.
The Hornets met up with Lyons Township on Tuesday and started off the game strong. Heading into the second quarter, the Hornets were facing a slim deficit. Turnovers, unfortunately, hurt the Hornets the rest of the half and Lyons jumped out to a sizable lead which they maintained the rest of the game. The half court offense, however looked better than it has all season as they continue to show improvement. The final score ended 46-15 Lyons Township. The Hornets were led in scoring by Jad Kawass with 6 points.
The Hornets faced Stagg in the final game of the Lyons Township Freshman tournament. In a very close game throughout that had many lead changes, overtime was eventually needed to settle the score. In overtime, the Hornets got some crucial open looks, but weren’t able to capitalize down the stretch. The final score ended up 38-34 Stagg. Jad Kawass led the team in scoring for the second straight game with 11 points. The Hornets will be off for a while and will be back in action on January 8 against New Trier.
Week of December 20th
Sophomore This week our Hornets had a good holiday tournament going 2-1 across the three game event. Trae Burke and Olasupo Akande lead us in game one against Niles North each player achieving a season high in scoring with 24 and 21 points respectively. Game two the Hornets defeated Harland lead by an energizing performance from Kyrell Caine off the bench with 8 points and Trae burke in scoring with 19 points. Our final game the Hornets defeated conference rival and tournament host Downers Grove South with a true team effort with all of our players getting minutes in the contest lead once again in scoring by Trae Burke.
Week of December 12th

Sophomore This week saw top performances from Alex Mazur in a tough loss against a tough York team, leading the team with a season high 12 points. In our conference schedule we had our best defensive effort as a team holding the Leyden Eagles to a season best 37 points with clutch shot making down the stretch from Olasupo Akande and Trey Burke to close out a tough opponent for a win moving our Hornets to 2-1 in the conference.
Freshman A The freshmen hornets dropped their game to York high school 47-36 on Tuesday night. The game was back and forth the whole way as both teams pressed- although the hornets forced more turnovers, the Dukes made more plays in the end. Grant Dietrich led all scorers with 10. The hornets are 4-3 on the season and 1-1 in conference.
The freshmen hornets won a nail biter vs Leyden on Friday night 30-29. In a game where the hornets jumped out to a 10 point lead early, the Eagles chipped their way back into the game to make it close. Ultimately, the hornets were able hold on down the stretch. Taeshawn Wilson and Grant Dietrich led the way for the hornets with 6 each. South is now 5-3 overall and 2-1 in conference.
Freshman B The Hornets clawed their way back into a good game after the break, but ultimately lost 38-23. After trailing by 11 at the half, the Hornets went on a 9-1 run and cut the lead to 3. They had some struggles scoring down the stretch which led to their eventual loss. Micholas Boyd led the Hornets with 12 points, including three 3-pointers. The Hornets are back in action against Leyden on Friday night at home.
The Hornets couldn’t seem to find the bottom of the net against Leyden on Friday night and lost 36-19. They were able to get many good looks, but shots were not falling. Early in the second half, the Hornets started to mount a comeback and got multiple stops and scores to get it to a 5 point game. Leyden, unfortunately, would pull away from that point on. The Hornets were led in scoring by Fuad Alsoubani and Micholas Boyd who both had 5 points.
Week of December 6th
Varsity December 11 The Hornets fought their way to a win over rival Downers South at home on Saturday night, 68-62. Aided with some energy from a great showing from the student section, The Hornets were able to build a big lead in the third quarter. Despite being down a few key players, South controlled the game throughout and finished it off with some great free throw shooting down the stretch. Brendan Savage led the Hornets with 22 points, Garrett Bolte had 19, and Jack Weigus added 12. The Hornets have another quick turnaround, with a strong opponent in York visiting The Hornets Nest on Tuesday.
Sophomore This week saw us take on Downers Grove South falling to the opponent 46-61. Trey Burke led all scorers in that contest with 24 points with a nice day from behind the arc going 4-6 from three point range. Off the bench Kyrell Caine came into the game giving us much needed minutes for players in foul trouble going 3-3 with 6 points and two rebounds.
Freshman A The freshmen hornets lost a close one to Downers South on Saturday 33-27. It was a scrappy game all around, and Hinsdale south actually out-executed DGS overall, but in the end missed shots in the paint cost the hornets down the stretch. Deshawn Wilson led the way with 5. The hornets are 4-2 overall and 1-1 in conference.
Freshman B The Hornets fought tooth and nail in a 32-28 loss to Downers Grove South. The Hornets handled full court pressure from start to finish and made a furious comeback down the stretch. They were led in scoring by Aiden LaPat and Jax Gerardi who both had 6 points. The Hornets will be back in action on Tuesday and Friday next week as they take on York and Leyden.
Week of November 29th
Varsity December 3 The Hornets fell to Willowbrook on the road 72-57 Friday night. The Hornets struggled mightily with turnovers, which were ultimately the difference in a game that was a 3 point game at halftime. A sluggish third quarter proved to be too much for the Hornets, despite strong scoring efforts from a few young players in the game. Freshman Jack Weigus scored 13 points in his first varsity action, and his fellow freshman Ayden Farrare added 11 points of his own. The Hornets will keep their heads up, as there were a lot of flashes of great basketball throughout the game despite the final score. The Hornets have a quick turnaround for their first home game of the season tomorrow against crosstown rival Hinsdale Central.
December 4 The Hornets lost to Hinsdale Central 62-51 in their home opener on Saturday night. The Hornets were never quite able to fight back from a ten-point halftime deficit, despite getting the game within 5 points multiple times. The Hornets again had a lot of flashes of great basketball, but ultimately struggled on the glass despite great effort. Garrett Bolte led the Hornets with 21 points and 10 rebounds, and Brendan Savage scored 17 of his own. The Hornets have a great combination of young talent and senior leadership, and are steadily improving. With consistency continuing to develop, look for the Hornets to keep getting better each and every game. South moves to take on rival Downers South next Saturday at home.
Sophomore This week saw the Hornets open up our conference schedule on the road versus Willowbrook. We collected our first win moving to 1-0 in the conference with good hard nosed defense from the team and outstanding wing play from both Trae Burke who had a season high 21 point on the back of 5-9 3point shooting and 9 rebounds as well, as well as Alex Mazur who recorded a double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The following contest against Hinsdale Central was a loss, however Olasupo Akande was promoted to captain for that game and moving forward and immediately showed why with his indomitable competitive spirit and unwavering commitment to the defensive end.
Freshman A The freshmen hornets won a gritty game over willowbrook 41-30 on Friday night. Deshawn Wilson led the way with 17 and the smothering hornets defense did the rest in a fun contest that also featured big contributions by Madden, Jaffery, and Taeshawn Wilson. The hornets are now 4-0 on this young season and 1-0 in conference.
The hornets lost a close game this time 42-32 vs Hinsdale Central. It was the fewest points allowed by a Hinsdale South freshmen team in several years, but in the end a hornet comeback fell 10 points short. Nick Okrim led the hornets in this one with 6. They are now 4-1 overall and 1-0 in conference.
Freshman B December 3 In the first game of the season for the Hornets, it was a very scrappy and hard-fought affair. The final score ended 39-30 in favor of Willowbrook. The Hornets hung tight the entire game and were led by Aiden LaPat and Micholas Boyd both with 6 points. A great learning experience to start the season.
December 4 The Hornets B team lost 34-18 to Hinsdale Central. The Hornets played a great second half, but just couldn’t chip away at the lead. Leading scorers were Aiden LaPat and Fredrick Finnegan with 4 points each. Looking forward to working on a few key things and getting ready for DGS next Saturday.
Week of November 22nd
Varsity November 22 The Hornets won their season opener against Ridgewood Monday by a score of 45-42. With a host of players in their first varsity game, the Hornets came out a little slow and trailed by 13 entering the fourth quarter. However, they flipped the switch in the fourth quarter and dominated, outscoring the Rebels by a score of 18-2 in the fourth quarter, fueled by dominant defense and efficient offense. Garrett Bolte led the Hornets with a monster effort, scoring 30 points and securing 11 rebounds. The Hornets continue in the Ridgewood Thanksgiving Tournament with a game against Schaumburg tomorrow.
November 23 The Hornets fell to Schaumburg Tuesday by a score of 59-58. A game of runs throughout, the Hornets had a strong fourth quarter that ended with a few shots in the last ten seconds that could’ve tied the game for the Hornets, but they ultimately fell by one point. Garrett Bolte led the Hornets with 24 points and 7 rebounds, and Elijah Fields chipped in with 14 points of his own. The Hornets move to 1-1 and take on Highland Park tomorrow night in their final game before the holiday.
November 24 The Hornets lost a tough one to Highland Park Wednesday, 45-41. Another slow start offensively ultimately doomed the Hornets, despite an outstanding defensive effort. The Hornets nearly fought back at the end, but a few free throws sealed the deal for Highland Park. Garrett Bolte led the Hornets with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and in Deon Bomar’s first game back for the Hornets, he added 10 points. The Hornets will take on a familiar opponent in Leyden on Saturday in their final game of the Ridgewood Thanksgiving Tournament.
November 27 The Hornets defeated Leyden 67-58 on Saturday, wrapping up the Ridgewood Thanksgiving Tournament. The Hornets built a lead of 20 early in the fourth quarter, and every Hornet player got in the game at some point. Garrett Bolte led the Hornets with 18 points, Brendan Savage scored 16, and Cassidy Whitaker added 10, with numerous other Hornets scoring at some point. The Hornets have a few days off before a big weekend of games against rivals Willowbrook and Hinsdale Central next Friday and Saturday.
Sophomore In our first game against Lyons we were led by Olasupo Akande and Jack Weigus in scoring with 6 and 9 points respectively. Our leading rebounder was Davon Williams who not only led the team with 4 rebounds but also provided great physicality in the middle for us.
Our second game against Fenger saw our team battle hard for the full length of the contest really coming through at the free throw line with 26 attempts total and going 8/8 down the stretch in the fourth quarter to ice the victory. Jack Weigus lead us in scoring with 17 points total including a perfect day from the free-throw line at 8/8.
In our third and final contest of the tournament against main south our top scorers were Jack Weigus and Davon Williams each with 6 points, Jack Weigus also doing a great job on the boards leading out team in rebounds from the guard position with 5 rebounds three of which were offensive. This tournament provided all our players a chance to play and was a great look at what we can do as a team and where we can improve.
Freshman A The freshmen hornets defeated Reavis high school in the first game of the holiday tournament there 50-19. Behind a solid defense and some some timely scoring by Deshawn Wilson (10 pts) and Tommy Madden (8 pts) the hornets were able to jump out to a big lead and hold it. The Hinsdale south freshmen are now 1-0 on this young season.
The freshmen hornets moved to 2-0 on this young season with a 39-32 win over Oak Forest. The Hinsdale south leading scorers were Deshawn Wilson and Tommy Madden who each had 10 points respectively. Another strong effort down the stretch prevented a would-be comeback by oak forest. The hornets will finish up the Reavis holiday tournament at 4:30 tomorrow.
The freshmen hornets finished off the Reavis tournament with a win over Evergreen Park 74-22. Nearly everyone scored in this one, and the game really wasn’t close at all after the first quarter. Tommy Madden led all scorers with 14. Grant Dietrich chipped in 9, and Nick Okrim with 8. The hornets are now 3-0 on the season.
