2026 Boys' Gymnastics Weekly Highlights

Week of May 4th

The Hornets delivered an outstanding performance at the IHSGCA Sectional Meet on Friday, May 8, hosted at Downers Grove North High School. Despite once again competing with only four of seven athletes due to injuries, the team rose to the challenge and posted an impressive 113 team score, one of the program’s strongest performances of the season. The athletes competed some of their best routines of the year, showing resilience, confidence, and determination on the sectional stage.

Several Hornets earned major accomplishments by qualifying for the IHSGCA State Finals. Kenwan Johnson had an exceptional meet, placing 3rd on Floor Exercise with an 8.65 and 3rd on Vault with an 8.5, qualifying for state on both events. Patrick Thomas placed 7th on Pommel Horse with a 6.35 and also qualified for state on Parallel Bars with a 6.95. David Strahanoski earned a state qualification on High Bar with a score of 6.0.

The Hornets are excited and motivated as they now prepare for the IHSGCA State Finals on May 16 at Hoffman Estates High School. The team will continue working hard this week as they get ready to compete against the top gymnasts in Illinois.

Week of April 27th

The Hornets competed at the Conference Meet on Friday, May 1, hosted at Hinsdale Central High School. Despite being limited to just four competing athletes due to injuries, the team demonstrated outstanding leadership, resilience, and determination, posting a team score of 104.3. Stepping into expanded roles, the athletes rose to the challenge and represented Hinsdale South with pride. Highlighting the meet, Kenwan Johnson earned an 8th-place finish on floor exercise, continuing his strong performances this season. 
The Hornets are now focused and energized as they prepare for the Sectional Meet on Friday, May 8, looking to build on their progress and finish the season strong.

WSC Conference Meet - Full Results

Week of April 20th

The Hornets delivered a strong performance on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Hinsdale Central’s Canino Invitational, earning a season-high team score of 115.5 and finishing 6th out of 7 teams in a competitive field. The team continues to show impressive growth late in the season, with several standout individual performances. Kenwan Johnson led the way by medaling on two events, placing 7th on floor exercise with an 8.6 and 4th on vault with an 8.9. Devioune Thompson also had a solid meet, placing 6th on parallel bars with a 7.8 and 10th in the all-around with a 39.7. Christopher Nakamura continued his rapid development in just his second meet, earning an 8.25 on floor and competing in every event except pommel horse, an impressive accomplishment at this stage. John Strahanoski also delivered a highlight performance, recording his best rings routine of the season with a 5.9. Overall, the Hornets are making significant strides as a team, building confidence and consistency at the right time, with excitement continuing to grow as conference and sectional meets approach over the next two weeks.

Week of April 6th 

The Hornets returned from Spring Break with a strong week of practices, showing clear growth and dedication as the team focused on refining routine form and building consistency across events. Several athletes also took important steps forward by adding new skills, highlighting the team’s continued development. Patrick Thomas reached a key milestone by successfully competing circles on the pommel horse, Kenwan Johnson is continuing to make great progress toward consistently landing his Tsukahara vault, and Christopher Nakamura has expanded his role and is now prepared to compete in five events.

This week, the Hornets competed against Glenbard West High School, posting a varsity team score of 104.3. While Glenbard West recorded a 161.5, Hinsdale South continued to show growth, effort, and resilience throughout the meet. The team’s focus remains on steady improvement, building confidence, and sharpening routines as the season progresses. The Hornets are continuing to put in the work and are trending in a positive direction heading into the next stretch of competition.

Week of March 23rd

The Hornets continued their strong season with an impressive performance on March 26, 2026, posting a team score of 115, the highest varsity score for Hinsdale South this year. Competing against the Downers Grove Co-op, who finished with a 133.3, the Hornets showed significant growth, confidence, and execution across all events. A major highlight of the meet was the debut of Christopher Nakamura, who stepped in and competed on floor, vault, and rings for the first time. He made an immediate impact, earning an impressive 7.6 on floor in his debut performance. Another standout moment came from Kenwan Johnson, who competed on his birthday and successfully performed a Tsukahara vault for the first time, scoring a strong 7.9. The combination of personal milestones and a record-setting team score made this a memorable meet for the Hornets, who continue to build momentum as the season progresses.

Tuesday, March 17th

Week of March 9th

The Hornets had a busy and competitive end to the week with two meets on back-to-back days. On Thursday, March 12, Hinsdale South hosted Hinsdale Central and the Addison Trail/Willowbrook Co-op. The Hornets posted a team score of 102.4.  The gymnasts that competed truly stepped up, showing great effort and resilience across all events. The following evening, on Friday, March 13, the team traveled to Lyons Township High School for the Paul Omi Invitational. The Hornets improved their team score to 106.1 and finished 6th place overall in a competitive field. Several Hornets also earned individual medals at the invitational, highlighted by a strong performance from Devioune Thompson, who placed 3rd on vault, 5th on parallel bars, 9th on high bar, 10th on floor, and 9th in the all-around. Kenwan Johnson also earned a medal with a 7th-place finish on floor exercise. The team continues to show growth and determination as the season progresses, and the Hornets look forward to building on this momentum in the weeks ahead.​
