JV In the final week of the season, the JV Hornets gave their fans a thrilling home victory on Senior Night, defeating Addison Trail in a hard-fought 3-set match filled with energy, hustle, and heart. They wrapped up the season with a competitive 2-set match against a talented Metea Valley team. Despite the loss, the Hornets held their ground and showed just how far they’ve come. The determination, growth, and teamwork this group has developed over the season is something to be proud of. From the first serve to the final point, these boys demonstrated what it means to compete with heart and represent Hinsdale South with pride. This season may be over, but the lessons, memories, and bonds built will carry on.

Varsity
JV As the second-to-last week of the season wraps up, the JV Hornets continued to show resilience and heart in matchups against Riverside Brookfield and the York Dukes. Though both matches ended in losses, the boys held their own against two historically strong programs. With just one week left, it’s clear the team has grown tremendously—not only in skill, but in their ability to compete at a high level and push tough opponents to the limit.

Week of May 5th
Varsity Varsity opened up a long week of matches with a win on the road in 2 sets against Oswego east. Andrius valincius started his first match and filled in nicely on the outside. Mid week the hornets lost a difficult match in 2 at St Charles East.
Thursday our annual wounded warriors night the varsity team beat Hinsdale central in a 2 set thriller. Tomasz Lobas lead the team in kills and blocks. The 2 programs raised over $3500 for wounded warriors.
Over the weekend varsity headed to Richards for a tournament. Friday night the hornets were able to get a quick 2 set win over Sheppard but then lost a very competitive 2 set match against Downers Grove North. Saturday the hornets lost to top ranked teams brother rice and Lyons township in 2 sets each. To close out the tournament varsity was able to get a 2 set win against Stagg finishing the tournament in 7th place. Tomasz Lobas was named to the all tournament team.
JV This week, the JV Hornets faced tough competition in matches against Oswego East, St. Charles East, and Hinsdale Central. While the results didn’t land in their favor, the match against St. Charles East stood out as a turning point. Due to time constraints, only two sets were played—after dropping the first 15–25, the Hornets stormed back with a dominant 25–16 second set. With momentum clearly on their side, it was easy to imagine a different outcome had a third set been played. The team continues to show that they can compete at a high level and are on the edge of breakthrough success.

Week of April 28th
Varsity Varsity opened the week with a 2 set win over willowbrook and Tomasz Lobas led the team in kills moving the squad to4-0 in conference. The next day with a full team effort against Proviso East the hornets move to 5-0 in conference. To close out the week the hornets lost a heartbreaker in 3 sets to Lyons Township. The serving by the varsity team was great and some outstanding net play by Tomasz Lobas made it exciting.
JV This week, the JV boys focused on closing out tight games, especially after a heartbreaking loss to the Willowbrook Warriors in a match that could have gone either way. Despite the disappointment, the team showed impressive mental toughness, bouncing back with a strong 2-set victory over Proviso East the next day. The week wrapped up with a matchup against a powerhouse Lyons Township team, giving the boys another valuable opportunity to test their growth against top competition. Each match continues to sharpen their skills and deepen their resolve.
Over the weekend, the Hornets competed in the Leyden Invite, where they had a second chance to face off against familiar opponents. The day was packed with five back-to-back matches, and the team secured a win against Proviso West. While the record stood at 1–4, the difference in play was undeniable. Compared to their performance at the Barrington Invite, the boys showed greater awareness, stronger team chemistry, and a clear love for the game. It’s exciting to watch this group grow—not just in skill, but in heart. Freshman As we get deeper and deeper into the season, the Freshman Boys continue to face challenges on and off the court head-on and without fear. We continue to improve and work better as a team every single day.
Week of April 21st
Varsity Varsity was able to get a 2 set winner against St Laurence at home with Nick Ockrim leading in digs on the match. The next day varsity went to 3-0 in conference with a win over Leyden. Justyn Giadla played a great 6 rotations to lead the way. To close out the week Varsity lost a 3 set thriller to Geneva.
JV This week put the JV boys’ hard work on full display, as the team continued to make noticeable strides in both skill and chemistry. The Hornets went 1–2, with both losses coming in tightly contested 3-set matches. The improvement was clear—not just in the scores, but in the way the team played together. Each game reflected the progress these boys have been working toward, and they’re showing they can compete with anyone.
Freshman Another week of improvement for the Freshman Boys Volleyball team. We have much about which to be proud, not the least of which being our incredible emotional maturity that we have all developed. It's a tough journey, but learning to be winners is our priority.
Week of April 14th
Varsity The hornets made it 2-0 in conference play with a win over Morton and some solid outside hitting by Terrence Newell. At the end of the week the hornets beat a very talented Bolingbrook in 2 sets with Tomasz Lobas leading in kills. They followed up with a full team win against Larkin.
JV The JV boys continue to show steady growth, both in practice and on the court. This week brought three more competitive matches against strong opponents, with the final game—a thrilling 3-set battle against Larkin—coming down to the wire. The Hornets played with heart and intensity, and it truly felt like one more set could have tipped the outcome in our favor. The team’s progress is undeniable, and their resilience continues to impress. Over the weekend, the boys competed in five matches at the Barrington Invite, finishing 1–4 on the day. Despite some tough losses, there was a noticeable shift in energy and attitude as the day progressed. The team grew more connected, more confident, and more focused—making it clear that the season is heading in a very promising direction.
Freshman With a couple extremely close losses to start the week, we managed to push back and win our final game of the week in a thrilling third set! The weekend brought with it our second tournament of the season, the South Elgin Invite. The ability to struggle and yet still manage to show incredible growth was on full display and leaves a lot of room to continue to improve.
Week of April 7th
Varsity DGD came into Hinsdale south to open up conference play and a great team effort resulted in a win. To close out the week varsity lost back to back games against a very talented Carl Sandburg team and a great defensive Stagg group. Eric Fournier ended up putting on a offensive display and lead the way with kills against Stagg.
JV Although the week ended with three tough losses against well-established programs, the JV boys continued to show encouraging progress. The team is beginning to find its rhythm and develop a stronger sense of on-court chemistry—an important turning point for the season. With each match, the players are learning, adjusting, and building the foundation for future success.
Freshman After two tough 3-set losses to start the week, Freshman Boys Volleyball managed to fight for our first win against Stagg HS! Over the weekend, we had our first tournament of the season at the St. Charles North Invite. Despite much adversity, the team persevered and learned a lot!
Week of March 31st Varsity Varsity traveled to Argo during spring break and went 3-2 in the tournament with wins over Crete, Sheppard, and Hancock. Justyn Giadla and CJ Mitchum had great play along the net throughout the weekend. The 2 losses were to St Laurence and Reavis. Tomas Lobas received all tournament honors and the hornets finished 8th.
Week of March 24th
Varsity Varsity opened up the season with back to back wins against Elgin and Waubonsie. Tomasz Lobas led in both games. Following the wins varsity lost a great match against Benet with some great serve receive by Nick Ockrim.
JV The JV boys kicked off the season with grit and determination, securing a hard-fought 3-set win over Elgin behind strong defense and relentless effort. While the team faced two tough opponents later in the week and came up short, the matches were valuable learning experiences. The week highlighted some exciting talent and set a solid foundation for continued growth moving forward.
Freshman Despite three tough losses, the Freshman Boys Volleyball team looks promising to start the season. With a mix of experienced and new volleyball players, the athleticism and energy of every player in this year’s group ensures an exciting season ahead.
