Monday, May 20th - Hinsdale South 4, Glenbard South 1 The Hornets came out ready to protect their home turf on a hot Monday night. Glenbard South came out ready too, and made it 1-0 within the first five minutes of the half. The Hornets responded to the early goal, and quickly found their flow. Junior Audrey Atkinson was hungry for a goal, coming through with the equalizer to tie it up, with an assist from freshman Brynn Diedrich. Not only did Atkinson tie it up, she then scored 2 more goals to make it 3-1 going into the half, again assisted by Diedrich. Sophomore Kennedy Ruff moved into the offense during the second half and brought the energy, finding the back of the net with her head off of a corner kick played in from Diedrich. The girls showed grit, high energy, and pride as the game finished at 4-1. The Hornets are Regional Champions, for the second year in a row, claiming the title on their home turf!
Tuesday, May 21st, Hinsdale South 0, Wheaton St Francis 3 The Hornets started out with energy with Audrey Atkinson putting a shot on goal early on in the game. The wind unfortunately played a huge factor in the first half. The Hornets were playing against the wind which made it hard to clear the ball out of the box and connect our goal kicks. Kennedy Ruff took numerous goal kicks in the first half because the wind took the ball out of bounds so many times. The Hornets were down at halftime 2-0. The girls tried to gain some momentum in the second half. All of the girls did a great job stepping up and playing different positions when their teammates were injured. Unfortunately, the Hornets couldn’t make a comeback. The Hornets lost 3 - 0. Our season ended with a 14-7-2 record. Huge shoutout to our seniors Tian Schulte and Olivia Fulton for giving it their all the entire season!
Week of May 13th
Tuesday, May 14th - Hinsdale South 8, Fenton 0 The Hornets came out ready to win from the first whistle defending their home turf for their first playoff game. In the first 21 seconds Freshman Brynn Diedrich found the back of the net with a crisp finish to take the 1-0 lead. Junior Audrey Atkinson and Diedrich were able to combine and find the net 3 times each, as well as assist each other twice. Sophomore Kennedy Ruff had 2 stunning goals once she was done helping the back line by playing center back. As she charged into the attack she brought the energy and elevated the game. Ruff’s second goal consisted of a beautiful finish off the head from a corner kick! The Hornets won 8 - 0. The Hornets look forward to a weekend game where they will face Glenbard South for the regional title on their home turf.
Week of May 6th
Monday, May 6th - Hinsdale South 7 St. Laurence 3 The Hornets took on St. Laurence on Monday in a back and forth battle. Audrey Atkinson was on fire scoring her first goal of the game off an assist by Brynn Diedrich. Her second goal was scored shortly after on an assist by Samantha Johnston out of the back. St. Laurence continued to battle and tied up the game 2 - 2, but the Hornets were able to take the lead going into halftime on a great goal by Kennedy Ruff who headed the ball into the net off a cross by Brynn. The Hornets were up 3 - 2 at half. The Hornets knew they needed to come out with energy at the start of the second half to really take control of the game. Audrey and Brynn had another combo play with an assist by Audrey to Brynn who scored our fourth goal of the game. During the second half the Hornets allowed one goal, when our back line was caught up too high and they were able to get past us. The Hornets responded right away on an unassisted goal by Audrey scoring her third goal of the game on a penalty kick. This was Audrey’s 77th career goal which broke the school record for career goals. She now holds the record for the most career goals at Hinsdale South! The sixth goal followed quickly after unassisted by Brynn who dribbled past their defense and scored. The last goal of the game was by Audrey scoring her 4th goal of the game. The Hornets won 7-3!
Tuesday, May 7th - Hinsdale South 9 Proviso East 0 The Hornets hosted their senior night game against Proviso East. We honored our four seniors before the game: Olivia Fulton, Tian Schulte, Hailey Bishop, and Aly Motherway. The Hornets scored immediately with Brynn Diedrich scoring the first of the game. The next goal followed quickly after by Brynn again assisted by Audrey Atkinson. Audrey and Brynn combined again and this time Audrey scored the goal. Then Molly Curley scored her first goal of the season assisted by Audrey. Our 5th goal of the game was unassisted by Brynn. The next goal of the game was a pass from Audrey to Kaleia Lin. Since the Hornets were winning by 7 the second half was cut in half. Our 8th goal of the game was a pass from Audrey to Olivia Fulton who scored! Tian Schulte scored our last goal of the game on a penalty kick. It was a great night celebrating our seniors and a great 9-0 win!
Saturday, May 11th - Morton 3 Hinsdale South 2 The Hornets came out with a strong start and an early goal against Morton. Brynn Diedrich played a ball to Audrey Atkinson for our first goal of the game. Our defense was under constant attacks from Morton and tried to stay organized with their forwards and midfielders. Morton capitalized on two opportunities where we left them on sides and a long shot from midfield. The Hornets were losing at halftime by 1. The girls regrouped at half time and came out ready to play. After an early goal in the second half by Morton, the Hornets brought some energy to the game. They started winning tackles and creating chances to score. Brynn took on multiple girls in Morton’s box and was fouled. She scored her PK and the Hornets were only down by 1. The team played hard until the end of the game but lost 3-2. Our player of the game was Kennedy Ruff for playing center back and doing a great job winning the ball and defending against Morton. The Hornets look forward to playing the Mustangs next year during conference play. They will begin playoffs this coming Tuesday defending their home turf at 5pm.
Week of April 29th
Varsity Tuesday, April 30th - Downers Grove South 4 Hinsdale South 1 The Hornets battled hard for a full 80 minutes against their cross town conference rival, the Downers Grove South Mustangs. Both teams were physical, and battling for each 50/50 ball. DGS scored with an aggressive attacking play making it 1-0, followed by another not too long after making it 2-0 Mustangs. The Hornets responded before halftime with the momentum shifting their way, creating a 2-1 score going into halftime. Both teams fought hard during the second half, with the Mustangs finishing on top with the final score of 4-1. The Hornets look forward to playing them next year in conference play.
Wednesday, May 1st - Addison Trail 2 Hinsdale South 1 The Hornets faced another tough conference opponent, Addison Trail, the day after playing DGS. The quick turnaround game led to both teams battling for 80 minutes of regulation play finishing at 1-1. The draw at the end of regulation led into two 10 minute overtimes, followed by 2 rounds of penalty kicks. The Hornets lost in the shoot-out, and look forward to playing them again next season.
Saturday, May 4th - Hinsdale South 3 Providence Catholic 2 The Hornets had a great game on a warm Saturday morning. They came out with a strong start with our first goal coming from a pass from Brynn Diedrich to Kennedy Ruff who scored. Our next goal was unassisted by Brynn Diedrich who won the goal kick and scored our second goal of the game. A few mishaps on defense and tired legs allowed Providence two goals during the first half. We went into halftime tied 2 - 2. During the second half, the Hornets came out ready to go and win the game. Molly Curley played the ball to Audrey Atkinson who scored our third goal of the game giving us the lead. The Hornets won 3 - 2.
JV/Freshman Tuesday, April 30th - Hinsdale South 0 Downers Grove South 7 The Hornets played a very talented Downers Grove South team. They battled with injuries and limited subs with a great effort from all the players. The Hornets hope to be back to full strength to take on Addison Trail tomorrow.
Saturday, May 4th - Hinsdale South 0 vs Providence 0 The Hornets matched up against Providence in a back and forth drawless battle. With limited subs, the Hornets put up a strong fight. Ghina Kassar earned the shutout.
Week of April 22nd Varsity Tuesday, April 23rd - Hinsdale South 3 Willowbrook 0 The Hornets had their second conference game against Willowbrook. The Hornets attacked Willowbrook right away and earned multiple corner kicks in the first half but were unable to capitalize on them. Anna Wilcox won the ball in the midfield and made a pass to Brynn Diedrich who dribbled past multiple of Willowbrook’s defenders to score our first goal of the game! The Hornets were winning at halftime 1-0. During the second halftime the Hornets made some adjustments and started connecting more passes. Our defenders helped generate the attacks with Alyssa Watson and Tian Schulte making great passes to their teammates. Then Brynn made a pass to Audrey Atkinson who shot and scored our second goal of the game! The Hornets kept the pressure high and never let up on Willowbrook. Brynn took a free kick and caught willowbrook off guard and scored our team’s third goal of the game and her second. Paige Lilek made 3 saves during the game to earn a shut out. The Hornets won the game 3-0! Our players of the game were Anna Wilcox, Audrey Atkinson, and Brynn Diedrich.
Thursday, April 25th - Hinsdale South 8 Proviso West 0 The Hornets had a slow start to the game and had to adjust to playing on grass. Once we got our passing under control, we started to create some chances to score. Our first goal came from a pass to Sereen Abdelmoneim who shot and then Anna Wilcox tapped the ball in the goal. The next goal came from an assist by Sofia Salazar to Olivia Fulton who shot and scored our second goal of the game. Next was a pass from Sloane Kiefer to Alyssa Watson who scored putting the Hornets in the lead 3-0 at the end of the first half. The Hornets came out ready to score in the second half. Jessica Aillon beat her defenders on the sideline and passed to Audrey Atkinson who shot and scored! Our next goal came from a cross from Kennedy Ruff to Audrey who scored on a beautiful volley. Kennedy made another great play shortly after that and passed it to Jessica Aillon who scored making the score 6-0. Our 7th goal of the game when Proviso West took a free kick and Brynn intercepted it and shot and scored! The time was then cut in half leaving only 10 minutes left in the game. Alyssa Watson brought the ball up the left side of the field and was fouled inside the box earning a penalty kick. She took the kick and scored her second goal of the game! The Hornets won 8-0. Our player of the game was Alyssa Watson for her two goals!

Monday, April 22nd - Hinsdale South 0 York 5 The Hornets traveled to play a very talented York team. First half, the majority of play was York while the Hornets tried their best to stop their dangerous attack. First half ended with a score of 3-0 in favor of York. Second half, the Hornets continued to battle. York was able to stay strong and shutdown any Hornet threat. York scored 2 more goals to make the final score Hornets 0, York 5.
Tuesday, April 23rd - Hinsdale South 1 Willowbrook 3 The Hornets matched up against a tough Willowbrook team. Both teams battled in the first half with both sides creating chances. Second half, Willowbrook controlled a majority of the play but the Hornets kept fighting as they trailed by two, Hornets were able to find a goal from Sofia Salazar. The Hornets continued to push to find an equalizer but Willowbrook countered and scored their third goal. Final score: Hornets 1, Willowbrook 3.
Wednesday, April 24th - Hinsdale South 3 Proviso East 0 A great showing for the Hornets against Proviso East. Hafsah Muneer, Hailey Bishop, Tema Alkuhadari and Emma Gonzalez held strong as the back line with Ghina Kassar playing the fulltime in goal earning the shutout. Sofia Salazar
Week of April 15th
Varisty Monday, April 15th - Hinsdale South 6 Leyden 5 The conference game began with both teams hungry for the win from the very first whistle. The Hornets scored first with junior Audrey Atkinson scoring with a nice assist from sophomore Sloane Keiffer. Another goal from Atkinson with the help from freshman Brynn Dietrich, scoring on a PK, after Leyden capitalized on their own PK. The first half slowed down a bit until Leyden was up 4-3 , and sophomore Kennedy Ruff scored the last goal of the half with an assist from Brynn, tying the game at 4-4 with an incredible goal off the head! The second half began with both teams ready to win. The Hornets started off strong on both sides of the ball with Atkinson scoring the first goal of the half with a crisp assist from Brynn. One final goal was scored by Brynn with Kennedy assisted. The Hornets came out on top winning 6-5 to put them at a 1-0 conference record. The Hornets will travel for an away game this Thursday to take on University High.
Thursdasy, April 18th - University 4 Hinsdale South 1 The Hornets fought hard for a full 80 minutes to result in a tough loss against University High School. The Maroons snuck a goal in early, and also received a PK in the first half, leading 2-0. The Hornets got organized and regrouped at half time. They came out fighting in the second half and within minutes scored an excellent goal off of Freshman Brynn Diedrich’s corner kick, with a beautiful finish by sophomore Anna Wilcox. The Hornets played a tough second half accompanied by some rain, with midfielder Kennedy Ruff winning every 50/50 ball in the air. The Hornets fought hard until the end to finish with a 4-1 loss.
Saturday, April 20th - Hinsdale South 1 IC Catholic Prep 1 The hornets came out on fire with a beautiful goal off of a corner kick from freshman Brynn Diedrich to get a 1-0 lead. The ICC Knights were tough and physical, and responded making it 1-1 scoring off a penalty kick. Both teams battled hard for 80 minutes and challenged each other in the air for every 50/50 ball. The game resulted in a 1-1 tie after a very physical game. The Hornets will take on the Willowbrook Warriors on their home turf Tuesday night at 6:30pm.
JV/Freshman Monday, April 15th - Hinsdale South 3 Leyden 1 The Hornets traveled to Leyden and were off to a great start. Half way through the first half, the Hornets get on the scoreboard with a strike from Sofia Salazar making the score 1-0. Moments later Sereen Abdelmoneim took a shot from the edge of the box to beat Leyden’s goalkeeper bringing the score to 2-0 for the hornets. Second half, the Hornets were getting tested by Leyden’s attack. Ghina Kassar protected the goal with saves to keep Leyden scoreless. The Hornets continued to counter with great saves from Leyden’s goalkeeper. Leyden was able to get through the Hornet’s back line and finish their breakaway chance making the score 2-1. With not a lot of time left, the Hornets were able to find their third goal from another shot from distance from Sofia bringing the score to 3-1. Hafsah Muneer had an attempt from just inside the box that was cleared off of the goalline to keep the final score 3 to 1 in favor of the Hornets.
Wednesday, April 17th - Hinsdale South 2 Downers Grove South 0 The Hornets battled against DGS throughout the entire game. First half, Dulce Serna put the Hornets on the scoreboard with a blast just inside the box to put the Hornets up 1-0. A few back and forth chances from both teams but the first half ends 1-0 for the Hornets. Second half, both teams continued to push forward trying to create chances but both teams held strong defensively. Sofia Salazar was able to add to the scoreboard with her great dribbling to create space and get a shot off to score. Ghina Kassar played the entire game and kept the shutout.
Week of April 8th
Varsity Thursday, April 11th - Hinsdale South 2 Glenbard South 1 The Hornets played at Glenbard South on Thursday. The game started off right away with a corner kick by Glenbard South, but the Hornets were able to defend the goal. The first goal of the game was scored by Brynn Diedrich on an assist from Audrey Atkinson. Olivia Fulton and Fatima Mendoza Lopez had to mark one of their top players and did a great job shutting her down. Unfortunately, the Raiders responded to a small mistake in our box. Our team fought hard against their aggressive play and lack of fouls called. Kennedy Ruff stepped up to take control in the center mid position. She won multiple 50/50 balls and connected passes to our wingers. The first half ended 1-1 with both teams fighting for a goal.
The second half started off with the Hornets fighting for a goal. Audrey, Brynn, and Kennedy connected passes and had great combination plays to break through Glenbard’s backline. Alyssa Watson and Tian Schulte both joined the attack from their outside back positions. Alyssa Watson threw the ball in and then got it back from her teammates. She crossed the ball into the box and Audrey was able to score the goal putting the hornets in the lead 2 - 1! The girls continued to fight to protect their lead. The Hornets won the game 2 - 1. There was a great team effort on this victory. Our player of the game was Olivia Fulton for her hard fought battle on defense all game.
Saturday, April 13th - Hinsdale South 7 Reavis 0 The Hornets had a very strong start to the game with Brynn Diedrich taking the first shot on goal within the first minute. Then the dynamic duo scored their first 2 goals of the game, Brynn scoring first with an assist from Audrey Atkinson and then Audrey scoring the next goal with an assist from Brynn. Audrey then scored the next 2 goals as well. Her 2nd goal of the game was unassisted and her 3rd was from an amazing assist from Brynn yet again. Fatima Mendoza Lopez took a free kick and placed it near the back post where Audrey headed the ball into the net, scoring the 5th goal of the game. The half ended 5-0 with the Hornets having an amazing lead.
The 2nd half started strong with the Hornets not letting in any Reavis goals. A special shout out to Tian Schulte for having a great start to the second, getting forward and starting the team’s offense. The first goal of the half was scored by Kennedy Ruff heading the ball in on an assist from Audrey on an indirect kick in Reavis’s box. The next goal had an amazing build up starting with Jess Aillon sending the ball down the field to Brynn, who then passed it to Audrey to score the 7th goal of the game, and Audrey's 5th goal. The time of the game was then cut in half as the Hornets were up 7-0. The rest of the game was played defensively by the Hornets and ended 7-0 giving the Hornets another win. Our player of the game was Audrey Atkinson with her 5 goals and 2 assists.
JV/Freshman Monday, April 8th - Hinsdale South 2 Willowbrook 0 The Hornets travel to Willowbrook. First half, the game was back and forth with possession from both teams with no scoring opportunities for either team. Both teams were organized and played solid defense.
Second half, the Hornets came out strong with Sofia Salazar dribbling past two Willowbrook defenders and hitting a shot to the bottom corner making the score 1-0. With 14 minutes left in the game, Sereen Abdelmoneim made a great pass to find Salazar running in behind Willowbrook's back line. Salazar blasts a shot to the top side of the goal giving the Hornets a 2-0 lead. Ghina Kassar went the complete game in goal earning the shutout.
Wednesday, April 10th - Hinsdale South 0 Morton 0 First half, the Hornets battled with Morton with both teams playing solid defensively. Neither side was able to create scoring opportunities. Hafsah Muneer and Tala Khair kept the team organized and strong defensively.
Second half, both teams attempted to get some attacking chances. Vivian Ling had a pass played through from Sofia Salazar but Morton’s defender was able to chase her down and stop the chance. Both teams continued to play solid defense without any dangerous scoring chances being created. Game ended in a draw.
Thursday, April 11th - Hinsdale South 1 Glenbard South 2 The Hornets travel to Glenbard South in what turned out to be an exciting game. First half, a lot of action from both teams. Ghina Kassar stepped up to make two big saves to keep the game 0-0. Vivian Ling had a scoring opportunity but Glenbard South’s keeper made a great save to keep the ball out of the net. Sofia Salazar dribbles through Glenbard’s defender and finds a pass to Sereen Abdelmoneim. Sereen takes a shot that ends up wide of the goal. Half ends both teams 0-0
Second half excitement continued with Glenbard South capitalizing on a goal scoring opportunity half way through the half. The Hornets continued to push forward trying to get a goal back. Glenbard continued to hold strong defensively. Glenbard found a second goal as the Hornets tried to push forward but were caught on a counterattack. With not much time remaining, the Hornets were fouled in the penalty area. Sofia stepped up to kick the kick that went just wide of the goal. A few minutes later, a handball in the box led to another penalty kick. Vivian stepped up and buried her shot into the corner putting the Hornets on the scoreboard. The Hornets kept pushing to find the tying goal but Glenbard South held strong. The game finished Hornets 1, Glenbard South 2.
Saturday, April 13th - Hinsdale South 6 Reavis 0 (Non-Conference) Hornets were buzzing Saturday morning! First half, the Hornets were able to create multiple scoring opportunities. The first goal came from Dulce Serna with a blast from outside the box into the top corner. A few minutes later, Dulce with great footwork to get by Ridgewood’s defender scores another into the corner to make the score 2-0. With time remaining in the first half, Sofia Salazar plays a through ball for Vivian Ling who finishes the breakaway to make the score 3-0. First half ends with the Hornets having a comfortable 3 goal lead.
Second half, the Hornets continued to push forward. Tala Khair passes a ball wide to Sereen Abdelmoneim. Sereen takes a touch towards goal and strikes the ball into the corner to make the score 4-0 Hornets. The remainder of the half, Vivian put on a show by making dangerous runs to get in behind Ridgewood’s backline. She was able to score 2 more breakaway goals to complete her hat trick making the score 6-0. Great showing for the Hornets!
Week of April 1st
Varsity Tuesday, April 2nd - Hinsdale South 0 Elmwood Park 0 The hornets played Elmwood Park away to start off the week. It was our first game back after spring break and it was a cold one. The hornets played tough defense during the entire first half and it was an evenly matched game at the beginning. Brynn Diedrich had our first goal scoring opportunity when she tried to dribble past the other team in their box but was taken down and unfortunately no foul was called. The game continued to go back and forth between the two teams. During the second half, the hornets really took over and created some chances on goal. Kennedy Ruff moved into the center mid position and dominated for us. She helped keep the ball on the other team's half and made great passes to her teammates to create chances to score. Nina Kremper made a huge save keeping the game tied at 0 - 0. Audrey Atkinson had a great breakthrough down the right side and her shot hit the post. Our team had a few great opportunities to score but were unable to finish our chances. It was a great defensive game led by Fatima Medoza Lopez, Olivia Fulton, Alyssa Waton, and Tian Schulte and Nina Kremper with the shutout. The Hornets tied 0-0. Our players of the game were Kennedy, Fatima, and Nina.
Thursday, April 4th - Hinsdale South 5 Marist 2 The hornets continued this week’s game with an away match at Marist. The girls started the game off strong scoring within the first 5 minutes of the first half. The first goal was a pass from Kennedy Ruff to Brynn Diedrich who scored our first goal of the game.Marist responded and used a breakthrough opportunity on our mistake to score their first goal of the game. Our next goal came from an assist by Kennedy Ruff again this time to Audrey Atkinson who scored. The ref called a tight game with numerous fouls being called on both teams. The ref gave the other team a penalty kick and Nina Kremper made a big save to prevent Marist from scoring another goal. The Hornets entered halftime winning 2 - 1.
The hornets made some adjustments at halftime to ensure that we would come out strong in the second half. The girls did a better job of winning every 50-50 ball. Paige Lilek was in goal for our second half and she was confident and helped make multiple saves. Fatima Mendoza Lopez and Olivia Fulton kept our back line organized and had great leadership. Alyssa Watson protected the left side of the field and ensured that her teammates were fired up and kept their energy high. The hornets seemed unstoppable and made all of the changes we had discussed at halftime. Anna Wilcox and Sloane Kiefer won as many of the other team’s goal kicks and punts as possible. The girls continued to pressure Marist and created chances to score. Audrey and Brynn started to combine to get past Marist. Their first combination was a pass from Audrey to Brynn who scored her second goal of the game. The two combined again to score another goal, Brynn’s third of the game! Marist was able to sneak in one goal during the second half, but that didn’t stop the girls from fighting and making sure that they didn’t get another chance. The last goal of the game was an assist from Brynn to Audrey who scored her second goal of the game and the team’s 5th. The hornets won 5 - 2. The players of the game were the entire team as it was a huge team win!
Saturday, April 6th - Hinsdale South 9 Ridgewood 1 The Hornets played Ridgewood on a beautiful Saturday morning. They had a quick start to the game with a goal from Audrey Atkinson on an assist from Kennedy Ruff. The next goal was scored by Audrey again this time on an assist from Brynn Diedrich’s corner kick. Brynn then went on to quickly score the 3rd goal on her own, after juking out all of the Ridgewood defenders. The ball then went to our side of the field, where Olivia Fulton cleared the ball and directed it towards Brynn who then scored the 4th goal of the game. The next goal was followed quickly after by Kennedy on an assist from Anna Wilcox. Brynn then scored the 6th goal on her own again, and the 7th goal with an amazing save from Molly Curley keeping the ball in the game and giving the assist to Audrey. The game then slowed down until Sereen Abdelmoneim scored the 8th goal of the game. After the 8th goal Ridgewood scored their first so the hornets entered halftime up 8 - 1.
The 2nd half started strong with 2 shots on goal from Molly and Anna. Audrey then scored off of a corner kick from Brynn and another assist from Olivia. Since the half was cut in half that was the only goal scored, but our team had some shots on goal by Anna and Olivia. The Hornets won the game 9 - 1. Brynn was the player of the game with 4 goals!
JV / Freshman Tuesday, April 2nd - Hinsdale South 0 Elmwood Park 2 (Non-Conference) The Hornets faced a tough matchup against Elmwood Park. Hafsah Muneer and Tema Alkuhadari did a wonderful job limiting Elmwood Park’s dangerous attack. First half, Paige Lilek made big saves to keep the game scoreless. The game continued with back and forth action from both teams.
Second half, Ghina Kassar stepped into the goal. Half way through, Elmwood Park capitalized on their chance to make the game 1-0. The Hornets were able to create a chance from Vivian Ling but a save was made from their goalkeeper. A few minutes later, Sofia Salazar, beat 2 Elmwood Park players with great dribbling and was able to get a shot off that land just wide of the goal. With not much time left, Elmwood Park found their second goal to make the score 2-0. Zeina Zeitoun and Tala Khair battled in the middle to try and get chances to score for the Hornets but Elmwood Park continued to display strong defensive presence. The game ended with the Hornets 0, Elmwood Park 2.
Thursday, April 4th - Hinsdale South 0 Marist 3 (Non-Conference) The Hornets started the game strong against a very good Marist side. Tala Khair and Hafsah Muneer are the starting center backs for the game. The Hornets battled in the first half keeping the game scoreless.
Second half, the Hornets continued to deny Marist chances. Zeina Zeitoun, Sofia Salazar and Bricia Hernandez tried to find ways to create chances to score. Marist was able to capitalize on 2 shots from distance and a breakaway goal. The final score was Hornets 0 Marist 3.
Saturday, April 6th - Hinsdale South 4 Ridgewood 1 (Non-Conference) The Hornets had a great showing Saturday morning. First half, Sofia Salazar started the scoring with great dribbling and a great strike. Sereen Abdelmoneim added to the scoring to make the score 2-0. The Hornets back line Tema Alkhudari, Hafsah Muneer, Hailey Bishop and Tala Khair held strong against Ridgewood’s attack to keep their score at 0 going into the second half.
Second half, Sofia and Sereen added to the score to make it 4-0 for the Hornets. Zeina Zeitoun, Lauren Petrosius and Vanesa Gjelaj, had chances to add to the score sheet but Ridgewood’s keeper came out with big saves. Ghina Kassar continued to make big saves until Ridgewood’s striker finished her well placed breakaway shot into the corner. The game ended with the Hornets 4, Ridgewood 0.
Week of March 18th
Varsity Tuesday, March 19th - Hinsdale South 7 Willowbrook 0 (non conference) The hornets played Willowbrook for their first home game of the season. The girls started out strong. The first goal of the game was in the first 2 minutes of the game on a pass from Anna Wilcox to Kennedy Ruff who scored! The next goal was an assist from Audrey Atkinson to Brynn Diedrich. The third goal of the game was another combination between Wilcox and Ruff who scored her second of the game. The Hornets kept putting pressure on Willowbrook’s backline and created more chances. Our fourth goal of the game was an assist from Diedrich to Atkinson who scored her first goal of the game. Wilcox earned another assist when she assisted Atkinson’s second goal of the game. The Hornets were winning 5-0 at halftime. We made a few minor adjustments to make sure no mistakes happened on our defensive end. During the second the team focused on passing and creating more chances to score goals. The sixth goal was scored by Brynn Diedrich assisted by Audrey Atkinson. Diedrich took on multiple players in the box and earned a PK that she scored. Brynn Diedrich had a hat trick in the game earning her player of the game along with Anna Wilcox who earned 3 assists. The hornets won 7-0!
JV / Freshman Tuesday, March 19th- Hinsdale South 0 Lyons 2 (Non-Conference) The Hornets played their season opener at home against Lyons. First half, the back line, lead by Hafsah Muneer, Tema Alkhudari, Maeve Savage and Hannjn Tajeddin, held strong against a dangerous Lyons attacking team. Paige Lilek made two big saves to keep it scoreless until 10 minutes left in the half. Lyons had two great shots from distance ending the half with Hornets down by two.
Second half, the Hornets came out strong and much more organized. Vivian Ling had a chance early on but Lyons keeper made a save. The remainder of the half was scoreless battle.
Thursday, March 21st- Hinsdale South 1 Stagg 4 (Non-Conference) Hornets started first half strong against Stagg with multiple chances from Vivian Ling to score. Stagg had a goal scored half way through on a breakaway. A few minutes later, Ling had her own breakaway where the keeper made a save off of the goal line. Stagg scored another goal just before half to bring the Hornets behind by two.
Second half, Ling capitalized a great chance and found the back of the net to bring the Hornets with in one. Freshman, Lauren Petrosius, had two breakaway chances to tie the game. First shot, just wide of the goal. Second shot was right at the goalkeeper. The game continued with back and forth action with both teams having chances to score. Stagg ended up scoring two more goals with less than 10 minutes left in the second half. Ghina Kassar had her first start in goal and made 6 big saves to keep the score close. The game ended with Hornets 1 Stagg 4.
Week of March 11th
Varsity Tuesday, March 12th - Lockport 4 Hinsdale South 2 The Hornets started their season against Lockport as part of the Windy City Classic tournament. A miscommunication allowed Lockport an early goal. Olivia Fulton, Fatima Mendoza Lopez, Alyssa Watson, and Tian Schulte worked hard all half. Defending Lockport and clearing the ball out of the box to prevent them from scoring. Nina Kremper made multiple saves as well and helped to defend Lockport’s continuous attacks. Some combination plays between Audrey Atkinson and Brynn Diedrich almost earn our team a goal, but the ball just passed the end line before getting crossed into the box and the goal was called back. The Hornets were losing 0-3 at halftime.
The Hornets were ready to bounce back after a tough first half. During the second half Sloane brought a spark to the team by putting pressure on Lockport’s backline. Audrey Atkinson brought the ball up the field and was fouled near the sideline earning us a free kick. Brynn Diedrich stepped up to take it and scored our first goal of the game. The Hornets kept playing tough and continuing to connect some passes and move the ball up the field. Brynn Diedrich dribbled up the center of the field and was fouled just outside the box. She took the free kick again and scored the teams second goal of the game and her second goal of the game. The Hornets ended up losing the game 2-4, but won the half.
Thursday, March 14th - Hinsdale South 7 Argo 0 The hornets came out on fire within the first two minutes with a beautiful finish from Audrey Atkinson assisted by Kennedy Ruff. They didn’t stop there with another goal quickly after from Anna Wilcox, with Ruff on another assist. The girls played with poise and moved the ball well, leading to another point scored by senior defender Tian Schulte. The fourth goal came from the dynamic duo with Atkinson playing a through ball to freshman Brynn Diedrich for the finish. Diedrich turned around to feed another crisp assist to sophomore Dulce Serna. Atkinson and Diedrich ran down the defense for another goal, scored by Diedrich. The Hornets went into halftime feeling confident with a 6-0 lead. They began the second half full throttle, with Atkinson and Diedrich pairing together again to make it a 7-0 game. The Hornets played with class and control while Goalkeeper Nina Kremper got the shutout.
Saturday, March 16th - Addison Trail 4 Hinsdale South 3 The hornets continued in the tournament against Addison Trail. It took a bit for the girls to settle the ball down and start connected passes. Then Kennedy Ruff crossed the ball into the box and found Audrey Atkinson who headed the ball into the goal, scoring our first goal of the game! The Hornets were up 1-0. Addison Trail stuck to their game plan and capitalized on transitions to score multiple goals in the first half. The hornets ended the first half down 1-3.
The hornets came out strong in the second half fighting and scoring two goals to make it a 3-3 game. Sophomores Anna Wilcox and Sloane Kiefer held down the middle, winning every 50/50 ball in sight. Anna Wilcox with a strong finish made it a 3-2 game. Minutes later Freshman Brynn Diedrich tied it up finding the back of the net with ease, 3-3. The tie led into overtime play, where the Hornets unfortunately lost to a penalty kick in the box with two minutes remaining, making it a 4-3 final.
