Varsity This was a great week for the Hornet Tennis program here at South! The team captured their third sectional title in the past five seasons, and the second in a row, finishing ahead of tough local competition like Fenwick and Nazareth Academy, and some equally impressive programs like Beacon Academy from Evanston. Zeke Bisharat placed first in the singles draw, Ansh Desai placed third in the singles draw, and the Ethan Pan and Rohan Bansal placed 2nd in the doubles draw. The team put up 19 total points, with the next closest competitor only managing to capture 11. Up next, the IHSA State Finals!

On Friday the Hornets took second place in conference behind DGS. They finished late under the lights at Willowbrook High School, and while they took 2nd overall, took first place at the first singles (Zeke Bisharat) and first doubles (Rohan Bansal and Ansh Desai) positions. Connor Doydora, Ivan Atanassov, and Eamon Bargher all earned all-conference honors as first time varsity players. Up next… the IHSA state series!

Despite falling 0-7 in match play, we gained some valuable experience and played some competitive tennis across all positions. On Tuesday the Hornets were on their way to a conference win versus AT before they got rained out. On Thursday the Hornets downed Leyden 6-1 to stay perfect in conference duals. This coming week is pretty light for the Hornets before heading to the LWE Invite on Saturday which showcases some of the top talent in the area, where hopefully the Hornets can put together some stellar performances.

Of note was a three set win at the first doubles position captured by Isaac Choi and Jeremy Fung. Ansh Desai improved to 2-0 on the season, only dropping 4 games in his first two matches of the year. Finally, on Thursday, the Hornets took on Morton, and won 6-1, with their only loss coming in a tight three set match. All in all, it was a great week for the Hornets, who evened up their record at 3-3. Up next… Chicago U-High, in what will be a battle between two of the top 1A schools in the state.
Week of April 1st
Varsity This week the Hornets saw their first action of the season, hosting a quad versus Lemont, Glenbard South, and Timothy Christian. With a number of our top varsity members out for the Math Team State Competition, several of our varsity players had to play up a few positions and some of our junior varsity members had a chance to gain some valuable varsity experience. Despite falling 1-4 against all three schools, the day saw some brilliant play by AG Wilcox, Connor Doydora, and Rohan Bansal who had several close matches against some tough competition. Special shout out to Yacine Ouchen who played his first high school tennis matches at the varsity level and partner Ryan Larsen who played great at the third doubles position all day. Also of note, Ivan Atanassov and Eamon Bargher put up a solid fight against all three schools, perhaps playing their best tennis at the end of the day versus a deep Lemont squad. Zeke Bisharat picked up where he left off last season (all-state doubles player), going 3-0 on the day at the 1st singles position, dropping just three games across three matches.
