Varsity Saturday, May 24 vs. Marian Catholic - (10 - 22) (8 - 10) Strong hitting was not enough as the the Hornets dropped the regional playoff battle to Marian Catholic with a final score of 8 - 13. 8 total hitters had hits on the day but Evan Lopresti, Andrew Miller, and Alex Mazur all stood out with multiple hits and RBIs on the day. Other offensive highlights came from a 2 run single off the bat of Kaden Alavi and a 2 run inside the park homerun from Nathaniel Fundator. Brandon Elting gutted out 3 innings with 2 strikeouts against the stout offense of Marian Catholic. Nathaniel Fundator came in relief and threw 3 innings as well.
Week of May 13th
Varsity Tuesday, May 14 vs. Downers Grove South - L 1 - 11 (10 - 18) (8 - 8) The Hornets fell to neighboring rival, the Downers Grove South Mustangs, in a one sided fight. The offense went cold as the Hornets only tallied 5 hits on the day. Alex Dunwoody led off the game with a single and later scored on a ball put in play by Alex Mazur. Evan Lopresti, Kaden Alavi, Matthew Jaffrey, and Jack McDaniel all had singles on the day and Braeden Meeker belted a double in a late inning pinch hit at bat. Brandon Elting started the game and faced an onslaught of bleeding singles from the Mustang offense. Niko Villagomez came in relief and slowed down the opponents, striking out 2 across 3.1 innings.
Wednesday, May 15 vs. Downers Grove South - L 2 - 9 (10 - 19) (8 - 9) Despite having 9 total hits on the day, the Hornets could not string together big innings and fell to the Mustangs in game 2. Andrew Miller had a great showing going 3 for 3 on the day with 2 doubles. Landon Jasinski had the sole RBI on the day thanks to a single up the middle in the 3rd inning. Nathaniel Fundator started and came out the gate firing with 3 strikeouts early. Nathaniel was chased in the 4th and handed the ball off to Noah Greenman. Eventually Alex Dunwoody closed out the final frames throwing 2.2 innings and striking out 2.
Thursday, May 16 vs. Downers Grove South - L 3 - 6 (10 - 20) (8 - 10) The Hornets fell on senior night to a strong Mustang squad. With that loss, the Hornets close out the conference play for the year with a record of 8 - 10. On a night where offense was tough to come by, a few Hornets pieced together quality at bats. Nathaniel Fundator connected on a key hit and run late in the game to single in a run and start a small rally. Andrew Miller and Shane Walker also had RBIs. Alex Mazur and Landon Jasinski had big singles to help in the 3 run 3rd inning as well. Andrew Miller got a start on the mound and tossed 3 innings before being chased in favor of EJ Mazzei. EJ eventually passed off to Henry Joyce who closed out the final 3.1 innings with a scoreless effort.
Friday, May 17 vs. York - L 1 - 7 (10 - 21) (8 - 10) The York Dukes came to Alumni field for a Friday afternoon battle. The Hornet bats came out slow and the Dukes took advantage to win by a score of 1 - 7. Landon Jasinski had 2 hits on the day and 1 rbi, while Evan Lopresti continued to strike the ball well, with 1 hit. Alex Mazur also added a hit, while Matthew Jaffrey added 2 walks. Alex Mazur got the start and threw 6 strikeouts over 3 innings. Leydon Spang had a strong outing as well with 4 strikeouts over 2.1 before handing the ball off to Niko Villagomez who had 2 Ks in 1.2 innings pitched.
JV 5/14- In the last week of the season the Hornets took on rival Downers Grove South. The first game of the series did not go well for the Hornets as they were held scoreless for the first time all season. Behind a strong pitching performance and timely hitting the Mustangs would defeat the Hornets 10-0.
5/15- Game two of the series against the Mustangs went almost the same as the first. The Hornets again were unable to score a run or hold off the Mustang offense losing 10-0
5/16- In the last game of the season the Hornets played game three agaisnt the Mustangs. Ethan Rodriguez started for the Hornets and had an outstanding performance only giving up one hit and two runs through four innings pitched. Early in the game, the Hornets struck first on a Davy O'Connor groundout which scored Braeden Koperski in the first inning. They would score again in the fourth inning on a Sachin Maholtra base hit to right. The Mustangs would match the Hornets two runs later in the game making the game going into the sixth. Davy O’Connor came on in relief for the Hornets and shut down the Mustang offense while making multiple defensive plays on the mound. Despite the Hornets hard fought game they would lose 3-2 on a walk-off single to left in extra innings.
Freshman Tuesday, May 14th - Downers Grove South 4 Hinsdale South 3 The Hornets lost to Downers Grove South 4-3. Frank Waitkus pitched 5 innings, giving up 4 earned runs on just 3 hits. He also struck out 6. Brady Miller pitched the last 2 innings, giving up 0 earned runs and striking out 2. Vasili Monogios had multiple great plays in the outfield and was a great base runner, sparking the Hornet rally that scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning. Ben Miller doubled, and Brady Miller, Vasili Monogios, Frank Waitkus, and Bubba Bozzi all singled.
Wednesday, May 15th - Hinsdale South 12 Morton 7 The Hornets defeated Morton 12-7. Lincoln Cabrera, Cash Hipskind, and Nick Buzek all did nice jobs on the mound. Brady Miller caught, threw out 2 runners attempting to steal, went 4-4 with 2 doubles, and stole 3rd. Cash Hipskind and Lincoln Cabrera both also had 2 hit games.
Thursday, May 16th - Downers Grove South 4 Hinsdale South 3 The Hornets lost to Downers Grove South 4-3. The Hornets managed to manufacture 3 runs on just 2 hits. Both of them doubles, one by Frank Waitkus and the other by Lincoln Cabrera. Ben Miller pitched 6 innings striking out 5 and giving up just 1 earned run.
Friday, May 17th - Hinsdale South 13 Downers Grove South 8 The Hornets defeated Downers Grove South 13-8. Bubba Bozzi pitched 4 innings, striking out 4 and giving up only 3 earned runs. Jack Madden pitched 3 innings striking out 2 and giving up just 1 earned run. Dylan Filipiak turned an unassisted double play in the field. The Hornets had a fantastic day at the plate. Ben Miller led the way going 3-3 with a triple, double, and 2 walks. Frank Waitkus went 2-2 with a double, 2 hit by pitches, and a walk. Lincoln Cabrera was 2-4 with a double and a hit by pitch. Bubba Bozzi also had a multi hit game, including a double. Cash Hipskind reached base 4 times with a single and 3 walks. Dylan Filipiak doubled as well, and Brady Miller had a triple. The Hornets showed great character and attitude after 2 tough losses this week. Tomorrow they will play their last game of the season against Willowbrook.
Saturday, May 18th - Willowbrook 5 Hinsdale South 3 The Hornets lost to Willowbrook 5-3. Frank Waitkus pitched 4.2 innings with 5 strikeouts giving up just 2 earned runs. Cash Hipskind pitched the remaining 1.1 innings giving up 0 earned runs and struck out 2. Ben Miller and Dylan Filipiak both doubled on the day. Brady Miller, Vasili Monogios and Cash Hipskind all singled as well. Brady Miller stepped up and caught the majority of the game, making no mistakes, even though it was not his usual position.
Week of May 6th
Varsity Monday, May 6th vs. Morton - W 11 - 1 (9 - 15) (7 - 5) The Hornets bounced back to get a win in conference play thanks to a tremendous offensive outburst and a spectacular pitching display from Brandon Elting. THe Hornet offense was paced once again by the 3 headed monster of Alex Dunwoody, Kaden Alavi, and Alex Mazur who all had multiple hits on the day. Alavi had 2 runs scored and 1 RBI, Dunwoody had 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBIs, while Mazur contributed a double, 2 runs, and 3 RBIs on the day. All 9 starting hornets collected at least 1 hit on the day, and John Kadolph also had 2 hits. The true star for the day however was Brandon Elting on the mound. Brandon threw the 2nd no-hitter on the year, and the 1st conference no hitter for the Hornets. Brandon had 5 strikeouts across his 6 innings pitched and was absolutely dominant.
Wednesday, May 8th vs. Leyden - W 3 - 0 (10 - 15) (8 - 5) The Hornets won another conference matchup thanks to a strong starting outing. Shane Walker was the biggest offensive contributor during this matchup, going 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs and a stolen base. Jack McDaniel also added a hit and an RBI. Andrew Miller used his wheels to score 2 runs and steal 2 bases as well. Nathaniel Fundator cruised threw 6.2 innings to earn the win for the Hornets. Nathaniel was comfortable for the majority of the day and struckout 8 Eagles en route to a big win.
Friday, May 10th vs. Morton - L 1 - 3 (10 - 16) (8 - 6) The bats shut down in the second matchup with the Mustangs as the Hornets couldn’t push across numerous baserunners. The Hornets struggled to muster up much offense, but Landon Jasinski and Nathaniel Fundator still found a way to shine. Landon went 3 for 3 with the lone Hornet RBI, while Nathaniel added 2 hits of his own. Alex Mazur threw 5 strong innings with 7 strikeouts, but the Morton offense executed well and capitalized on Hornet defensive mistakes. Andrew Miller also threw 2 strong innings with 3 strikeouts of his own.
Saturday, May 11th vs. Morton - L 5 - 8 (10 - 17) (8 - 7) The Hornets once again could not slow down the Morton offense as they dropped the rubber match by a score of 5 - 8. Alex Dunwoody once again slugged his way to an impressive stat line going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and an RBI. Evan Lopresti had 2 singles and Leydon Spang hit a long triple late in the game. Nathaniel Fundator also went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored. Andrew Miller started on the mound for the Hornets throwing 2 innings and 2 strikeouts. Noah Greenman had a strong inning in relief and Henry Joyce closed out the final 3. Henry also had 4 strikeouts in his 3 innings of work.
JV 5/6- In the next game the Hornets were on the road to take on Morton. The Hornets were down big early as Morton put up 7 runs in the second inning. The Hornets did everything they could to lead a comeback which was led by Ramus Jenkins and Braeden Koperski. Jenkins was 4/4 on the day with 4 RBIs and Koperski added 3 hits of his own. Despite a strong performance at the plate with the Hornets getting 15 hits and scoring 10 runs, it was not enough to win the game as the Hornets would fall 11-10 to Morton.
5/7- In the second game of the series the Hornets again fought hard but could not secure the win. Davy O’Connor and Drew Baughman led the offense for the Hornets each collecting 2 hits and an RBI. Ramus Jenkins and Ethan Rodriguez pitched for the Hornets but despite each throwing well the Hornets could not hold off the Mustangs losing 6-3
5/9- The Hornets in the third game of the series against Morton did not play well and fell 9-2 to the Mustangs. The bright spot of the lineup was freshman Vasili Monogios who went 2-3 with a double in the Hornets loss
Freshman Monday, May 6th - Hinsdale South 12 Morton 2 The Hornets defeated Morton 12-2. Frank Waitkus and Jack Madden threw a combined no hitter. Frank Waitkus struck out 11 in 4 innings pitched, giving up 0 earned runs. Jack Madden struck out 4 in 2 innings, giving up only 1 earned run. Lincoln Cabrera had 2 hits, and Frank Waitkus went 1-3 with a double and a hit by pitch. Cameron Mitchell and Jackson Bucholz also had nice at bats and each had a walk.
Wednesday, May 8th - Hinsdale South 11 Leyden 1 The Hornets defeated Leyden 11-1. Ben Miller gave up only 1 earned run and struck out 6 in 5 innings pitched. Lincoln Cabrera went 3-3 on the day with 3 singles. Frank Waitkus went 1-2 with a triple and a walk. Dylan Filipiak had a 2 RBI single. Jack Madden and Ben Miller both laid down successful drag bunts. Lincoln Cabrera, Dylan Filipiak, and Bubba Bozzi combined for a 5-4-3 double play in the field.
Friday, May 10th - Hinsdale South 17 Morton 1 The Hornets defeated Morton 17-1. Bubba Bozzi and Jackson Bucholz threw a combined no hitter. Bubba Bozzi pitched 3 innings giving up 0 earned runs with 5 strikeouts. Jackson Bucholz pitched the 4th inning giving up 0 earned runs as well. Brady Miller had 2 great plays at shortstop. Jeff Sisto also had a nice play at 2nd base to end the game in the 4th inning. Brady Miller went 3-3 with a double. Dylan Filipiak went 2-4 with 2 doubles. Frank Waitkus and Bubba Bozzi also had doubles on the day. Jackson Bucholz, Vasili Monogios, Nick Buzek, Cameron Mitchell, and Cash Hipskind all had singles as well. The Hornets had 12 hits and 7 walks in only 4 innings.
Week of April 29th
Varsity Monday, April 29th vs. Leyden - W 9 - 5 (8 - 13) (6 - 4) The Hornets got back into the win column thanks to a spectacular game from Alex Mazur. Offensively, Alex was on fire, tallying 4 hits, 1 run scored, 2 RBIs, and a walk. Jack McDaniel also had a great day at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a walk. Kaden Alavi knocked in 2 RBIs on the day as well. Mazur was the sole pitcher for the Hornets, tossing a complete game, the first and only CG on the year for the Hornets. Alex had 7 strikeouts and 0 walks across 7 innings.
Tuesday, April 30th vs. Leyden - L 6 - 10 (8 - 14, 6 - 5) The Hornets dropped a disappointing game 2 to the Eagles to fall to 6 - 5 in conference. Landon Jasinski continued to swing a hot bat, going 3 for 4 on the day and scoring one run. Nathaniel Fundator had the biggest hit of the day, a 3 RBI triple in the fifth inning. Shane Walker and John Kadolph also reached on back to back bunt hits to start off the 5th. Andrew Miller continued to drive in runs as well, knocking in 2 RBIs on the day. Nathaniel Fundator started the game on the mound, tossing 3.1 innings with 2 strikeouts before passing the ball to Noah Greenman. Noah had 1 strikeout over 3.2 innings pitched.
Saturday, May 4th vs. Proviso West - L 0 - 6 (8 - 15, 6 - 5) The Hornets suffered a disappointing loss to Proviso West on Saturday. A combination of walks on the mound, and an offensive slide led to big rallies for the Panthers. RJ Gallegos started on the mound, but never fully settled in, only throwing 1.2 innings. Niko Villagomez stepped in and tossed the remaining 5.1 innings only allowing 3 earned runs. Offensively, the Hornets were not able to get much going. Shane Walker and Nathaniel Fundator reached on infield singles to try to start some offense, but the Hornets couldn’t string together many hits. Evan Lopresti came back from injury and knocked a leadoff double in his first at bat of the year.
JV 4/30- The Hornets opened up their next conference sequence against Leyden on the road. The Hornets ace, Jack Bauer, took the mound again and had another outstanding performance. Bauer went 5 innings giving up only 3 runs and striking out 5. The Hornets were able to rally behind Bauer’s strong performance and get him another win on the year. The Hornet offense was led by Aiden Chamberlian who went 3/4 adding 4 stolen bases and Carter D’Andrea who drove in 3 runs. The Hornets' all-around strong performance gave them an 8-3 win over Leyden.
5/1- In game 2 of the series against Leyden, The Hornets came out flat and could not keep up with the Eagles. Leyden had two big innings early in the game scoring 3 runs in each to get up 6-0. The Hornets offensively were led by Braeden Koperski who had a hit and an RBI and Charlie Orr who was able to work 2 walks. The Hornets would fall to Leyden in game 2 of the series 11-3.
Freshman Tuesday, April 30th - Hinsdale South 6 Leyden 2 The Hornets defeated Leyden 6-2. Ben Miller threw a complete game allowing just 1 earned run on 4 hits with 10 strikeouts. Vasili Monogios went 2/3 with a double and hit by pitch. Frank Waitkus and Ben Miller also doubled on the day. The Hornets will look to stay hot tomorrow at home vs Leyden.
Wednesday, May 1st - Hinsdale South 11 Leyden 1 The Hornets defeated Leyden 11-1. Bubba Bozzi threw a complete game giving up 0 earned runs. He had 7 strikeouts, 1 walk, and gave up only 3 hits in 5 innings. He also went 2-2 with a double, 3 RBIs, and a hit by pitch. Ben Miller had an outstanding catch at first base, and Frank Waitkus threw out someone attempting to steal 2nd base. The Hornets will look to continue their hot streak and complete the series sweep tomorrow.
Week of April 22nd
Varsity Monday, April 22nd vs. Addison Trail- L 2 - 8 Addison Trail came out swinging on a very windy day to power the Blazers to a win. 3 Homeruns made up all of the scoring on the opposing end. Alex Mazur and Landon Jasinski were once again the highlights for the Hornets on offense. Both players recorded 2 hits, with Alex having the lone 2 RBIs on the day and Landon having 2 doubles. John Cadolph and Shane Walker also both reached on perfect bunts. Alex Mazur also battled on the mound, throwing a strong 5 innings. The long ball finally chased Alex from the game but we threw well. Alex Dunwoody came in and threw the final inning.
Tuesday, April 23rd vs. Addison Trail - L 3 - 9 The Addison hitters did a good job of putting the ball in play on a wet and rainy afternoon. Hornets struggled to find outs against relentless hitters from Addison. Offensively, Andrew Miller had 3 hits and an RBI, while Shane Walker also added 2 hits and an RBI. Nathaniel Fundator got the start and threw 2 innings before handing the ball off to Jack McDaniel. Jack had his longest outing of the season throwing 4 innings and striking out 3.
Thursday, April 25th vs. Addison Trail - L 8 - 9 The Hornets dropped a heartbreaker after making a heroic comeback. After trailing by 5 early, the Hornets took a 3 run lead late in the game, only to fall on a walk off single by the Blazers. Alex Dunwoody had a big day at the plate, belting 2 doubles and having a big late inning RBI. Alex Mazur and Jack McDaniel also added doubles on the day. Big RBIs came from Kaden Alavi, Shane Walker and Landon Jasinski in the late innings. Nathaniel Fundator also added 2 hits on bunts that helped spark the offense. Brandon Elting had a gutsy outing on the mound, battling for 6 complete innings. This was the second longest outing of the year for the Hornets.
JV 4/22- The Hornets faced off in a conference matchup against Addison Trail on Monday. Jack Bauer took the mound for the Hornets and put on a dominating performance. Bauer threw a complete game giving up 3 runs on 3 hits while adding 6 strikeouts. The Hornets were aggressive early at the plate scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the first with RBIs from Charlie Orr, Drew Baughman, and Ramus Jenkins. The Hornets added another run in the second inning on a triple from Matthew Jaffrey giving the Hornets a 5-0 lead. The Hornets would add even more to their lead on a 2 RBI single from Davy O’Connor in the bottom of the sixth giving the Hornets much-needed insurance to finish the game. The Hornets would win game 1 against Addison Trail 8-3.
4/23- The Hornets traveled to Addison Trail for game 2 of the series. Despite the strong performance in game 1, the Hornets could not keep pace with the Blazers would were amped up to play. Addison Trail scored in all but one inning plating 11 altogether. The Hornets could not figure it out at the plate today and were only able to score one run on an RBI double from Taylor Mazur in the fifth inning. Overall the Hornets would fall 11-1 to Addison Trail.
Freshman Monday, April 22nd - Hinsdale South 8 Addison trail 4 The Hornets defeated Addison Trail 8-4. Ben Miller pitched 5 innings striking out 6 giving up 3 earned runs. Jack Madden pitched 2 innings in relief giving up only 1 earned run. Vasili Monogios went 3-4 with a double. Ben Miller, Cash Hipskind, and Bubba Bozzi also had singles.
Tuesday, April 23rd - Hinsdale South 11 Addison Trail 8 The Hornets defeated Addison Trail 11-8. The Hornets came out swinging with 6 runs on 6 straight hits to start the game. Ben Miller had a great game offensively with 3 hits. Cash Hipskind went 2-3 with a double and a walk. Vasili Monogios went 2-4 with a double. Jack Madden, Frank Waitkus, Dylan Filipiak, and Lincoln Cabrera all also had 2 hit games. Lincoln Cabrera was also credited with a save.
Thursday, April 25th - Hinsdale South 18 Addison Trail 4 The Hornets defeated Addison Trail 18-4 in 5 innings to complete their first sweep of the season. The Hornets came out strong right away for the second game in a row, scoring 8 runs in the first inning. They also scored 8 runs in the 4th inning. Dylan Filipiak went 3-4 on the day. Brady Miller, Vasili Monogios, and Bubba Bozzi all also had multi hit games. Jackson Bucholz and Cameron Mitchell also had RBI hits on the day.
Week of April 15th
Varsity Monday, April 15th vs. Proviso East - W 7 - 0 Conference play continues as the Hornets traveled to Proviso East for game one of the series. The Hornet offense tallied 10 total hits on the day. Kaden Alavi was the biggest hitter on the day, tallying 3 total hits one of which was a double. Andrew Miller continued to drive in runs with 3 RBIs on the day including a big double. Jack McDaniel also added 2 RBIs. Nathaniel Fundator cruised and was comfortable on the mound with 9 strikeouts through 3 innings with 33 of his 40 pitches being strikes. Noah Greenman threw the final 4 innings with 5 strikeouts.
Tuesday, April 16th vs. Proviso East - W 17 - 5 On a cold rainy day at Alumni Field the Hornets cruised past the Pirates with a final score of 17 - 5. 19 total Hornets saw the field during this game as a total team effort helped shut down the Pirates. Landon Jasinski had 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and 1 hit on the day while John Kadolph also had 2 RBIs, 2 hits, and 1 Run scored. Finally, Jack McDaniel had 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and 1 hit. Niko Villagomez threw 4 strong innings on the mound with 5 strikeouts and 1 earned run.
Wednesday, April 17th vs. Willowbrook - W 6 - 5 In a wild, emotional and competitive game, the Hornets made a courageous comeback to defeat the Warriors with a final score of 6 - 5. In a game full of heroes the offensive stars were Alex Dunwoody, Leyden Spang, Kaden Alavi and Andrew Miller. Alex had 2 hits, 2 runs scored, and a huge 2 RBI double to tie the game in the 6th inning. Leyden had another massive pinch hit double in the 6th to take the lead. Kaden and Andrew also added RBIs to help chip into the Warrior lead in the 5th inning. Nathaniel Fundator single handedly scored a run after walking, stealing second and third and then scoring on a passed ball. After an early injury, Andrew Miller had a gutsy performance on the mound. He was able to stall the Warriors offense, tossing 4 innings and striking out 3. Andrew handed the ball off to Nathaniel Fundator he battled through the final 3 innings striking out 4 and earning the win, his second conference win of the year.
Thursday, April 18th vs. Proviso East - W 14 - 4 The Hornets continued to roll as they beat the Pirates 14 - 4 in Maywood. Alex Dunwoody stayed hot with 2 hits, 1 of which was a double. Jack McDaniel, Kaden Alavi, and Landon Jasinski all added doubles of their own on the day as well. Andrew Miller tallied 2 RBIs on the day as well. RJ Gallegos toed the rubber and threw 2.1 strong innings striking out 2 and stretching the Pirate offense. Alex Dunwoody came in to slam the door shut earning the win with 3 innings pitched and 4 strikeouts on 0 earned runs.
Saturday, April 20th vs. Oak Park River Forest - L 2 - 13 The Huskie bats came alive on Saturday, belting 2 homeruns to extend the lead on the Hornets. Offensively the Hornets struggled to get moving, but multiple Hornets recorded hits. Kaden Alavi had 2 knocks including a double. John Kadolph and Alex Dunwoody each helped on the day with an RBI each. The pitching staff battled through adversity but still found creative ways to record outs. Noah Greenman threw the bulk of the game with 3.1 innings.
JV 4/17- The Hornets were away at Willowbrook to face the Warriors in the third game of the series. The Hornets struck first on a Carter D’Andrea single to left on a strong 8 pitch at bat plating the leadoff man Aiden Chamberlian. Despite the early lead from the Hornets, the Warriors were able to put up 12 runs in four innings eventually leading to the final score of 12-1 Willowbrook.
4/18- The Hornets looking to get back into the win column took on University High School at home. Davy O'Connor started on the mound for the Hornets and had a strong outing going 3 innings, giving up 3 runs with 7 strikeouts. Going into the third inning the score was tied at 3-3 before the Hornets exploded for 10 runs. Niko Villagomez and Carter D’Andrea led the Hornets with 2 hits each throughout the game, and the Hornets had an impressive 13 walks. The Hornets were able to add on to their lead in the fourth inning scoring 5 more runs to end the game at 18-3. The Hornets look to put together another good performance when they take on OPRF on Saturday. 4/20- The Hornets took on the OPRF Huskies Saturday morning. Ethan Rodriguez started the game for the Hornets. The Huskies took an early 5-1 lead before the Hornets began their comeback plating 2 runs in the third inning on an RBI single from Niko Villagomez. The Huskies came back with two of their own in the fourth inning leading 8-3. Corey Orr came up with a huge bases-loaded pinch-hit double in the bottom of the inning scoring 2 runners. The Hornets again cut the Huskie lead. Despite the effort and energy the Hornets could not complete the comeback and would fall 10-7.
Freshman Monday, April 15th - Hinsdale South 11 Reavis 1 The Hornets defeated Reavis 11-1. Lincoln Cabrera pitched 5 innings allowing 1 earned run and striking out 8. The Hornets hit very well today. Vasili Monogios went 2/3 with a walk. Frank Waitkus went 2/3 with a hit by pitch, double, and triple. Lincoln Cabrera also went 2/3 with a double. The Hornets will look to win their fourth game in a row and complete the sweep tomorrow at Reavis.
Tuesday, April 16th - Hinsdale South 12 Reavis 3 The Hornets defeated Reavis 12-3. Dylan Filipiak went 3-3 with a double. Lincoln Cabrera also doubled. Vasili Monogios, Frank Waitkus, Cash Hipskind, and Bubba Bozzi all also had hits. The Hornets will look to win their 5th in a row tomorrow against Willowbrook.
Wednesday, April 17th - Hinsdale South 19 Willowbrook 2 The Hornets defeated Willowbrook 19-2. The Hornets had amazing execution on offense, especially with bunts and base running. Bubba Bozzi had a nice outing on the mound, giving up 2 earned runs in 4 innings pitched with 6 strikeouts. Vasili Monogios had 3 hits on the day, and Cash Hipskind had 2 hits as well. Brady Miller had an outstanding sliding play at shortstop to go with his 2 hits. Ben Miller threw out a runner attempting to steal second base. Lincoln Cabrera and Ben Miller both had doubles. The Hornets will look to win their 6th in a row against Oak Park and River Forest on Saturday at home.
Saturday, April 20th - OPRF 6 Hinsdale South 5 The Hornets blew a 3 run lead in the 7th, losing to Oak Park River Forest 6-5. Ben Miller opened the game giving up just 1 earned run in 1.1 innings. Frank Waitkus threw 4 innings giving up just 1 earned run. The Hornets walked 9 total batters and had errors in the field, leading to their loss. Frank Waitkus went 2-4 with a double. Vasili Monogios also doubled. Lincoln Cabrera went 1-3 with a walk. The Hornets will look to get back on track against Addison Trail on Monday.
Week of April 8th
Varsity Tuesday, April 9th vs. Stagg - L 2 - 12 The Stagg bats were red hot in a non-conference matchup at Alumni Field on Tuesday. 16 Hornets made an appearance in this game but the offense could not get much going. Alex Mazur, Alex Dunwoody, Nathaniel Fundator and Landon Jasinski all tallied a hit but the Hornets could not find a rhythm. Alex Mazur and Nathaniel Fundator also had a steal each. Defensive woes plagued the pitching staff today as most of the runs scored were unearned. Alex Mazur and Alex Dunwoody each threw 3 innings in the matchup.
Wednesday, April 10th vs. Willowbrook - W 5 - 4 The Hornets improved to 1 - 1 in conference play after taking down the Willowbrook Warriors in game two on the road. In a total team effort the Hornets bounced back and played great. Andrew Miller, Nathaniel Fundator, and Landon Jasinski all had 2 hits with Nathaniel tallying 2 RBIs and Landon tallying 3. Jasinski was the hero offensively with both of his base hits being RBI doubles to help push the Hornets ahead. Jack McDaniel and Nathaniel Fundator each tallied a stolen base on the day as well. Brandon Elting threw a gutsy gem on the mound for the Hornets. His stellar pitching and fired up attitude helped to set the tone for the Hornets. He threw 7 strikeouts over 6 total innings and passed the ball off to Nathaniel Fundator. Nathaniel slammed the door shut, getting the first save of the year for the Hornets.
Thursday, April 11th vs. Glenbard South - W 5 - 2 The Hornets continued to play solid in a win over Glenbard South. Alex Dunwoody once again impacted the game on offense with 2 hits and a run scored. Alex Mazur also found a way to score twice thanks to hits from Andrew Miller and Landon Jasinski. Jack McDaniel added 2 walks and a run scored while Shane Walker also added a hit. RJ Gallegos was strong on the mound firing off 4 strikeouts in 4 innings pitched. Noah Greenman helped bridge the next few innings with 3 strikeouts of his own and 0 earned runs. Ultimately Andrew Miller came in and threw a scoreless 7 to earn the save.
Saturday, April 13th vs. Lyons Township - L 6 - 13 The Hornets fought a tough battle with Lyons Township but succumbed to the strong Lion offense late in the game. Offensively the Hornets found a way to scratch across 6 runs through 4 innings. 6 Hornets had hits, but Andrew Miller and Landon Jasinski each had 2. Alex Dunwoody and Kaden Alavi each had 2 RBIs to help pace the offense as well. 5 total Hornets toed the rubber in an effort to stifle the Lion hitters. As a staff we had 5 total strikeouts.
JV 4/10- The Hornets looking to get another home win took on the Warriors at home in the second game of the three-game series. The Hornets were outstanding defensively making plays and keeping the Warriors' offense off the board. The offense kept rolling behind Aiden Chamberlain's three-hit game. Taylor Mazur was outstanding on the mound going six innings only giving up five runs. The Hornets holding on to a one-run lead again were unable to hold on giving up three in the seventh to eventually fall to the Warriors 8-6 in another heartbreaker.
4/13- The Hornets were home Saturday to face off against Lyons Township. Lyons Township started the game off very well driving in 3 runs in the first inning. The Hornets trailing 4-0 in the third inning rallied and were able to put up three runs of their own to bring the game close to 4-3. Davy O’Connor led the Hornets offensively going 2-3 with an RBI followed by by Brandon Elting and Ramus Jenkins who also drove in a run for the Hornets. Despite a strong day at the plate the Hornets ell 10-3 to Lyons Township.
Freshman Wednesday, April 10th - Willowbrook 10 Hinsdale South 6 The Hornets lost to Willowbrook 10-6. Willowbrook had 5 hits and the Hornets walked 10. Cash Hipskind pitched in relief and did a great job. Nick Buzek and Vasili Monogios both played great defense in the outfield. Brady Miller and Vasili Monogios both went 2-4 with a double. The Hornets will look to improve on their pitching, while continuing to play great defense and offense tomorrow against Glenbard South.
Thursday, April 11th - Hinsdale South 10 Glenbard South 0 The Hornets defeated Glenbard South 10-0. Bubba Bozzi had an outstanding outing on the mound. Allowing 0 runs and only one hit while striking out 10. The hornets only had 1 error. Vasili Monogios had a triple. Bubba Bozzi went 0-0 at the plate with 4 walks. Cameron Mitchell had 2 walks as well as 2 stolen bases. Jack Madden had a hit and a walk. Jackson Bucholz and Jeff Sisto also had walks. The Hornets will look to win a second game in a row on Saturday against Lyons.
Saturday, April 13th - Hinsdale South 2 Lyons Township 1 The Hornets defeated Lyons 2-1. Ben Miller pitched a complete game 1 hitter with 6 strikeouts giving up only 1 earned run. He also picked off a runner at first and at third in a big situation early. The Hornets played outstanding defense with no errors. They also were aggressive on the base paths. Brady Miller came up big with a go ahead sacrifice fly. Frank Waitkus also had a double and his aggressive base running resulted in the Hornets’ only other run. The Hornets will look to stay hot on Monday when they host Reavis.
Week of April 1st
Varsity Friday, April 5th vs. Willowbrook - L 4 - 6 Conference play started on a rainy day as the Willowbrook Warriors came to Alumni Field. After trailing early, the Hornets closed the gap but were unable to take the lead late. Kaden Alavi and Andrew Miller were on fire, each collecting 3 hits on the day. Kaden had 1 run scored and 1 RBI while Andrew Miller had 2 RBI. Landon Jasinski also added 2 hits of his own, while Alex Dunwoody had 1 hit and 1 run scored. Nathaniel Fundator started the game but struggled early and had to pass the ball off to Brandon Elting. Brandon had 4 strikeouts in just 2 innings of work and ultimately passed it off to Henry Joyce. Henry was fantastic, with 3 Ks in 3 innings allowing 0 earned runs.
Saturday, April 6th vs. Downers Grove North - L 1 - 12 In the first cross-over game of the season, the Hornets went ice cold, eventually falling to Downers Grove North. Alex Mazur and Kaden Alavi both continued to produce as they had 1 hit on the day. Shane Walker bounced back adding a hit and a stolen base to his resume. Jack McDaniel also tallied a hit on the day. Leydon Spang and Noah Greenman pitched for the Hornets but neither were able to stop the talented Trojan offense.
JV 4/4- After not playing a game for almost two weeks, the Hornets opened up conference play on the road against a tough Willowbrook team. Walks and errors plagued the Hornets’ preventing them from stopping the Willowbrook offense. The Hornets were shutout at the plate as well and fell to the Warriors 15-0. 4/6- The Hornets looking to bounce back from a bad performance against Willowbrook took on Downers Grove North. The Hornets battled all game long in a back-and-forth game with both teams scoring early. Downers Grove North took an early 2-0 lead after two innings before the Hornets stormed back and took the lead in the top of the fourth. The Hornets’ offense was led by Davy O’Connor who went 3-5 with three RBIS began to gain momentum. Going into the last inning the Hornets had a huge inning scoring five runs to take the lead going into the bottom of the inning. Unfortunately, the Hornets were unable to hold the lead giving up three runs to DGN to tie the game. The Hornets would lose a 9-8 heartbreaker in extra innings on a walk-off single.
Freshman Saturday, April 6th - Downers Grove North 7 Hinsdale South 2 The Hornets lost to Downers Grove North 7-2 in a six inning, time limit shortened game. Ben Miller had an outstanding performance on the mound going 5 innings giving up 4 earned runs. The Hornets played great defense, with only 1 error. Ben Miller had the only hit of the game for the Hornets, a double over the center fielder’s head. Dylan Filipiak also had 2 walks on the day. The Hornets were tied with a tough Downers Grove North team through 4 innings, until they gave up 5 unanswered runs in the 6th inning. The Hornets will look to bounce back against Stagg on Tuesday.

Varsity Tuesday, March 26th vs. Mundelein - L 0 - 11 The Hornets struggled late in the game against Mundelein. After a promising start the wheels fell off as the Mundelein bats came around for the second rotation in the order. The lone hit for the Hornets came from Alex Mazur who roped a double to deep right center in the 2nd inning. Alex Dunwoody also drew a walk and stole a base on the day. On the mound, Brandon Elting started and had 3 strikeouts through 4 innings pitched.
Wednesday, March 27th vs. Rensellear Central - W 11 - 0 Spring Break started with a bang for the Hornets as they defeated Rensellear Central with a final score of 11 - 0. 15 Hornets made an appearance and contributed to the win in this matchup. At the plate, 9 players each tallied a hit, with Alex Dunwoody going 2 for 2 on the day. Many Hornets had RBIs but Nathaniel Fundator plated 2 with a triple, while Alex Dunwoody and Kaden Alavi each had a 2 RBI double. The true star for the day was Alex Mazur who fired off a no-hitter in his 2nd start of the season. Alex was locked in and had 11 strikeouts in just 5 innings pitched. Congratulations to Alex on his dominant performance.
March 28th vs. Trinity Christian Academy - L 0 - 6 Tonights game against Trinity Christian Academy was under the lights in the Old USA Stadium in Memphis Tennessee. On a special night, the Hornets ran into a buzzsaw pitcher and struggled at the plate. Despite this, the game was still tight and well played on both sides of the field. Offensively, John Kadolph and Andrew Miller each tallied singles and stolen bases. The Hornets had many hard hit balls but stellar defense on the other side stifled the offense. Nathaniel Fundator gutted out 5 innings on the mound to give the team a chance to chip away. He had 3 strikeouts in 5 innings and limited Trinity Christian to only 4 hits. Alex Dunwoody also threw 2 innings and had 2 strikeouts.
Friday, March 29, 2024 - Mamaroneck - L 7 - 8 In the final matchup of Spring Break, Mamaroneck rallied late to take down the Hornets with a final score of 7 - 8. The Hornets scored early after an Alex Mazur triple and a Nathaniel Fundator walk. Both Alex and Nathaniel each had 2 RBIs on the day and paced the offense. Alex Dunwoody also added a base hit and a run scored. Kaden Alavi had a quality day with 2 walks and 2 runs scored as well. After a rough start to the game, Henry Joyce came in during the 2nd inning and fired off 4 strikeouts in just 2 innings. Niko Villagomez and Andrew Miller also pitched well to finish out the game.
Week of March 18th
Varsity Tuesday, March 19th vs. Shepard - L 6 - 7 The Hornets lost a heartbreaker against Shepard to start the season, after losing the lead late. The Hornets got on the board early thanks to an rbi single from John Kadolph and a run scored from Shane Walker. Nathaniel Fundator, Alex Mazur, and Alex Dunwoody each contributed 1 hit. Landon Jasinski started the season red hot tallying 3 hits and scoring 2 runs. Brandon Elting started the game on the mound, throwing 3 innings allowing only 2 earned runs while striking out 7. Andrew Miller closed out the final frame with 2 strike outs in his only inning on the day.
Wednesday, March 20th vs. Riverside Brookfield - L 3 - 8 The Hornets fell to Riverside Brookfield on a cold day. Quality pitching and cold conditions led to less than stellar play from both teams in a drag out game. Offensively the Hornets were paced by Andrew Miller and Alex Mazur who each tallied a hit and run scored on the day. Leydon Spang also had an RBI on a quality at bat. Landon Jasinski stayed hot at the plate adding an RBI and a few walks. On the mound, Alex Mazur started and had 7 strikeouts in 3 innings pitched. Niko Villagomez also sallied 3 Ks through 2 innings and Henry Joyce fired off a quality inning to close it out.
JV 3/19- The Hornets kicked off their season on the road against Shepard. The Hornets fell behind in the early innings on a mixture of good hitting from Shepard and some costly errors which would ultimately plate the winning runs. The Hornet struggled at the plate striking out 10 times before scoring 3 runs in the 4th inning. The Hornets would fall to Shepard 13-3. They take on Riverside Brookfield in their next game at home. 3/20- In their first home game of the season the Hornets took on a very good Riverside-Brookfield team. Jack Bauer took the mound for the Hornets and was dominant the entire game. The Hornets' offense was fueled by Drew Baughman, Davy O’Connor, and Aiden Chamberlain who combined for 6 hits and 4 RBIs. The rest of the Hornets lineup pitched in, plating 8 runs in their first home game. In Bauer’s dominating performance he allowed five hits and four runs across six innings pitched, striking out eight. The Hornets' all-around team effort earned them their first win of the season beating Riverside-Brookfield 8-4
Freshman Tuesday, March 19th - Hinsdale South 15 Shepard 0 The Hornets defeated Shepard 15-0 in a perfect game pitched by Frank Waitkus. Frank Waitkus threw 4 perfect innings with 8 strikeouts. Frank Waitkus also went 4-4 with 3 singles, a Double, and 2 RBI. Brady Miller went 3-4 with a single, 2 doubles, and 5 RBI. Bubba Bozzi went 2-3 with a single, double, walk, and RBI. Cash Hipskind had a diving catch in the outfield. The great effort by all players gets the Hornets off to a 1-0 start. They will look to stay hot in their home opener against Riverside Brookfield tomorrow.
Wednesday, March 20th - Riverside Brookfield 6 Hinsdale South 2 The Hornets lost to Riverside Brookfield 6-2. The Hornets walked 8 and hit 1. Ben Miller struggled in the first inning but followed it up by pitching 3 shutout innings. He was pulled due to pitch count on his chilly first outing. Frank Waitkus stayed hot at the plate with 2 singles and a walk. The Hornets will look to bounce back at Reavis on Friday.
