JV The JV team completed the 2024 season with a first place finish in the West Suburban Gold JV conference tournament. The team finished first in 13 out of 15 positions and took second in the other two. The entire team applied the skills and knowledge they developed throughout the season to achieve this amazing victory. Congratulations to the team for an outstanding JV season!
Freshman The Freshman started the week with a quad beating Elk Grove HS, a tie against Conant HS and a loss against Maine South. They went undefeated against Addison Trail HS ending the season without any losses in conference. We hosted the last tournament of the year and used real feather birdies in competition which was a treat. We ended the season by taking 3rd place.

Varsity
JV The Hornets faced Downers Grove South this week for Conference play. Anita Joseph entered the dual meet lineup at #10 singles with a victory. The Hornets beat DGS and position themselves 4-0 in conference. Although the JV team did not have a tournament this weekend, Sophomores Lucy Old, Abby Alonso, Gabi Hanson, Gracie Linarez, and Emma Madsen earned spots in the Varsity ABCD tournament. The JV team is excited to finish the last two meets of the season before hosting the JV West Suburban Gold tournament on Friday!
Freshman The freshman started the week of great with a win against Downers South. They played tough against Stagg HS but came up with a loss. They played in New Trier's 1st Feathers tournament which had all of our singles players and doubles players playing against each other for first place. With that format, it was a very challenging format yet our #1 doubles team was able to take 8th place out of 40 doubles teams which was a huge celebration going up against many really tough schools.

JV The JV Hornets had another successful week of competition. This week's conference win over Morton puts them at 3-0 for Conference play. During the weekend, the team traveled to Downers Grove North for an invitational. All participants placed second or first leading the team to a first place finish! Arooj Nasir's resilience, Lucy Old's consistency, and Gracie Linarez's kindness were phenomenal examples of team leadership. Shout to Cami Macias and Victoria Wysocki for their willingness to jump in when asked.
Freshman This was a short week for the freshman with only 2 competitions. On Tuesday, we swept Morton in both singles and doubles. We hosted an invite and took 4th place.
Week of April 1st
Varsity The Hinsdale South varsity badminton team came out of spring break with a tough conference match against Willowbrook. The Hornets won 12-3 and Tessa Waszkiewicz and Kyra Harrison played really well, winning both their doubles and singles matches. The week continued with the team traveling to Naperville Central for a second place finish. Maddie LaPointe and Claire Camden had a great tournament in doubles!
JV The Hornets had their second dual conference meet of the season against Willowbrook and winning 12-3. Gracie Linarez received Willowbrook’s sportsmanship award. On Saturday, the team hosted another invite where the team tied for 3rd place. Shoutout to Mija Stankeviciute and Karina Uscinavicius for their leadership this weekend, high level of competition, and support with tournament breakdown.
Freshman On Saturday the freshmen badminton team played in the Glenbard North Invite. They took 3rd with a lot of athletes earning awards:
Miley Zhang placed 2nd in #1 singles Yelena Haikama placed 2nd in #2 singles Shivani Joshi placed 4th in #3 singles Hanna Czarniecki and Paige gruberman placed 3rd in #1 doubles Kristina Giannakopoulos and Claire Moon placed 3rd in #2 doubles Beth Paintsil and Genesis Ayala placed 3rd in #3 doubles All 3 of our doubles team took 3rd.

JV As Spring Break concluded, the JV team hosted their Spring Break Invitational where they placed 2nd. The Hornets were led by Gabi Hanson (#1 Singles) and Gracie Linarez and Cami Macias (#4 Doubles).
Week of March 18th
Varsity Hinsdale South’s varsity badminton team had a tough week. The 23 member varsity team is getting in great playing time in all our quad’s and tournaments. This week the Hornet’s beat conference rival Leyden 15-0, but then faltered against Lake Park, Naperville Central and Wheaton-Warrenville South. The Hornets then began spring break with a varsity badminton tournament second place finish against Metea Valley, Downers North, Sandburg, Palatine, & Lemont. Kaitlyn Wong and Ann Valiathara played well during the week.
JV This week, the team was victorious in their first conference dual meet of the season beating Leyden 14-1. On Saturday, the team traveled to Metea Valley where the finished in second place. Lucy Old (#1 Singles) and Arooj Nasir (#4 Singles) were undefeated for the day. Big shoutout to Anita Joseph Paulina Majerczyk and Maya Tiwari for exemplary teamwork and leadership.

Week of March 11th
Varsity A good start to the competition season for Hornet Badminton. The Hornets played in a quad at Homewood-Flossmoor and hosted another quad during the week and wrapped up the week with the annual Dennis Karnstedt varsity badminton tournament. Layla Cabrera and Abby Lu had good beginnings to their seasons!
JV The JV kicked off the week with two quads to prepare them for their first tournament of the season. JV team concluded their first week of competition with a 3rd place finish at the Glenbard East Invite. The Hornets were led by third place finishes from Lucy Old (#1 Singles), Emma Madsen (#3 Singles), and Abby Holzwart and Gracie Linarez (#3 Doubles). Congratulations to Mija Stankeviciute for earning Willowbrook’s sportsmanship award for the tournament.
