Varsity Thursday, January 30th vs. Downers Grove South - Downers Grove South 47 Hinsdale South 25 The team fought hard and had some big wins from Darrion Glover and Brady Miller.

Freshman Thursday, January 30th vs. Downers Grove South - Downers Grove South 23 Hinsdale South 16 The Hornets end the regular season with a 23-16 defeat to Downers Grove South. Even though many forfeits made the dual a fight out of a corner, the Hornets fought with valor and resilience. Charlie Erazmus (120) earned a pinfall victory in the first round. Marwan Mohammad (132) fought bell to bell earning a minor victory. Kalon Kirkendall (215) wrestled hard and earned a pinfall victory in the third round. Honorable mentions go to the exhibition matchups of Isaac Stewart (132) and Crue Robards (132). Isaac fought hard and earned a first round pinfall victory. Crue went bell to bell with a 14-10 minor victory.
The freshmen Hornets wrestling team ended their season with a 5th place finish at Lyons Township. They battled all season long, over coming insurmountable hurdles. Coach King expresses his gratitude and appreciation for their hard work and commitment. Marwan Mohammad (132) fought his way to a first place victory; pinning in conference rival from Downers Grove South. Tristan Hernandez (92) fought two challenging matches and finished 2nd in his bracket. Charlie Erazmus (120) wrestled well and won 2nd place; a well earned victory. Isaac Stewart (126) fought validating and won a 3rd place finish; Isaac fought hard and with honor. Kalon Kirkendall (215) after a very rough start to the day with both wrestling and his coach, fought back and overcame every obstacle placed in front of him and deserved a 3rd place finish.

Freshman Thursday, January 23rd vs. Addison Trail - Hinsdale South 48 Addison Trail 12 The Blazers of Addison Trail High School was no match for the Freshmen Hornet Wrestling team. With forfeits plaguing both sides, the matches that were contested showcased the dominance the wrestlers gained over the season. Tristan Hernandez (99), Charlie Erazmus (120), Pavle Sladojevic (175), and Kalon Kirkendall (215) all earned pinfall victory in the first period. Tadas Morkevicius (126) also earned a pinfall victory in the second period. The Hornets defeated Addison Trail 48-12.
Friday, January 24th vs. Willowbrook - Willowbrook 42 Hinsdale South 23 The Freshmen Wrestling Hornets fell to the Warriors of Willowbrook 42-23. Charlies Wrazmus (120) earned a pinfall victory 28 seconds into the first period. Kalon Kirkendall (215), after many blood time breaks, wrestled for a tech fall victory; hard fought win to end the dual on a high note.

Freshman Friday, January 17th @ Morton - Morton 39 Hinsdale South 24 The Freshmen Wrestling Hornets had a tough climb in their meet against Morton. Illness and injury was the main disadvantage for the young wrestlers but they did not let that get them down. Charlie Erazmus (120) earned another pinfall victory in the second period. Marwan Mohammad (132), wrestling one weight class higher, made short work of his opponent pinning him in 49 seconds. Austin Schutz (138), also wrestling one weight class higher, tried to beat Marwan’s pinfall time but missed the mark. Austin pinned his opponent in 50 seconds. But the thrill of the evening, came at the 215 weight class with Jayden Bingham wrestling his first match of the season; earning himself a pinfall victory in the first period at 1:37. Honorable mention goes out to Aiden Contreras, having the courage to go out on to the mat to wrestle for his first match. Unfortunately, the Mustangs were able to hold of the Hornets and defeated the Hornets 39-24.

Week of December 30th
Freshman The Freshmen Hornet Wrestling team ended the 2024 calendar year with an impressive performance in the Hornet Invitational Tournament. Tristan Hernandez (100) wrestled his way to a 2nd place finish pinning his first 2 opponents in the first period but could not hang in the 3rd round. Marwan Mohammad (132) also finished in 2nd place after impressive and quick victories but ultimately fell in the final round to a formidable opponent. Kalon Kirkendall (215) was on a roll all day and finished in 2nd place as well. Even though these wrestlers placed in the top 3 of the respective weight classes, other wrestlers gave their best on that day. Charlie Erazmus (120) won 4th place honors by making it to the Quarterfinals, being defeated in the Quarterfinals, and fighting his way back to the 3rd place match; where he ultimately fell. Austin Schutz (138) coming back from injury, fought his heart out but did not place in his weight class. He was all heart on the mat. Speaking of all heart, Isaac Stewart (138) lost his first-round match via Technical Fall, but that did not detour him. Wrestling his way back to the Consolation Semi-Finals with bumps, scratches, and a hyper-extended elbow, he faced off against his first-round opponent; taking his opponent to the full 6-minute match. He came up short, but he gave his opponent a fight he would never forget.
With excellent competition to cap off the winter break, the Hornets finished the invitational tournament in 8th place out of 12 teams.

Isaac Stewart came out on top with the only victory of the 3 matches given the Hornets. His patience and will helped him earn a pinfall win in the first period. Unfortunately, with last minute scratches and last minute matches, the Hornets tied in team points 36-36. The freshmen will assist the JV team by traveling to the Addison Trail Invitational on Saturday.

They had almost the entire team in the final rounds of the tournament battling tough. Mario Legunas took 1st, Nick Miller took 2nd and Jonathan Styczynski took 3rd place. The JV team looks to keep the ball rolling this Thursday 12/12 @ Proviso East High School against the Pirates.
Freshman Friday, December 6th vs. Leyden - Hinsdale South 40 Leyden 36 The Freshmen Wrestling Hornets started their conference competition in the hole against Leyden High School. However, the Hornets were more than capable to overcome their opponents. Charlie Erazmus (120), Tadas Morkevicius (126), Marian Mohammad (132), and Andrei Dirlevski (215) all earned pinfall victories to decrease the gap in team points. Austin Schutz (138) and Pavle Sladojevic (175) wrestled impressive matches earning technical fall victories. The Hornets wanted their first conference victory defeating Leyden 40-36.
Saturday, December 7th @Andrew’s Freshmen Invitational - 8th Place The Hornets Freshmen Wrestling team had a rough outing at the Dru Worker Andrews Freshmen Tournament finishing in last place. Marwan Mohammad (138) was the only wrestler placing in the top three spot; finishing in his weight class in 2nd place. The Hornets get an opportunity to rest and heal all soreness and learn from mistakes as they prepare for the next conference opponent, Proviso East.

Freshman Saturday, November 30th @ Glenbard South Invite - 2nd Place
The Freshman Wrestling team's debut event was the Glenbard South Freshmen Invitational over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The team had quite a day and many hard-fought victories. Sahil Malik (106) earned a third-place victory after a difficult run in the 106 bracket. Lucas Stieman and Tadas Morkevicius (126) took control of the bracket pinning their opponents all the way to the finals. Lucas and Tadas were “good friends becoming rivals” wrestling for first place in their weight class which saw Tadas getting the pinfall in the 3rd-period. Both wrestlers hugged each other in a great showing of sportsmanship. Marwan Mohammad (132) had one of the most impressive starts to the freshman wrestling season. Marwan earned a first-place victory pinning his opponents with ease and hard-fought matches. Austin Schutz went 2-2 during the day starting off strong but after long periods of time due to the 30-minute waiting period; he fell to third place. Isaac Stewart (144) was another wrestler who started off rough but fought his way back with impressive pin victories; earning himself a fifth-place finish. Pavle Sladojevic (175) had one of the most impressive comebacks of the day. After losing in the first round, he earned a fifth-place finish wrestling for only 59 seconds in total. Pavle was not going out without a fight. In his final match, he pinned his opponent in 11 seconds!! Kalon Kirkendall and Andrei Dirlevski (215) both placed in the top three with impressive pinfall victories earning a second and third place finish respectively. Joseph Arroyo (285) had a heartbreaking day finishing 1-2 for a fourth-place finish but what stands out is his passion to improve his skills to earn first-place finishes in future tournaments. The Freshmen Hornet Wrestling team finish their opening weekend in 2nd place at the Glenbard South Invite and are preparing to face their first conference opponent Leyden on Friday, December 6th.
