The Hornets are now 2-0 in conference after beating Morton 9-4. Annika Nicol drove in 4 runs on 3 hits– she had her first varsity home run and a double to lead the Hornet offense. Noelle Waterman, Lilly Davy, Amber Fedinec, and Ashley Leban (4 for 4) all contributed with clutch hits. Ashley Leban struck out 7 only allowing 5 hits over 5 innings. Lauren Bishop came in perfectly in relief.
The Hornets ultimately lost but played a full 7 innings against the notoriously solid DGS. HSHS couldn’t string the hits together, but defense and pitching were solid. The Hornets stranded 10 DGS players on base and tried to take the momentum back each inning. The Hornets racked up 6 hits against a D1 committed pitcher. Looking forward to our next conference game against Willowbrook.
The Hornets beat Willowbrook 4-1 and are now 3-1 in conference. Audrey Mulgrew was on fire with her 2 hits and phenomenal OBP. Davy, Fedinec, Kuhlman, Leban all contributed with hits– Leban with 2 RBIs and Kuhlman with 1. Cannot wait to see what the Hornets do next week against Leyden and Addison Trail. Week of April 17th
The Hornets played a strong game against Wheaton North but unfortunately the bats were cold. Lauren Bishop pitched a phenomenal game striking out 5 and giving up 0 earned runs. Ashley Leban came in relief and only gave up 1 hit, 0 runs, and striking out 2. Ashley Leban and Annika Nicol had the only hits on the day.
The Hornets defeated Proviso East for their first win (and conference win) of the season! Bats were hot all around. Lauren Bishop had a homerun, Callie Carr had a 2B, and Camden Kiefer had 4 RBIs. Kayla Buckels-Meen was 2 for 3 at the plate with 4 runs scored.
The Hornets finished the week with an incredibly exciting 7th inning win against Plainfield Central. Hinsdale South Varsity Hornets seized victory in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off double at the end of the game to topple Plainfield Central. The Hornets were down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Lilly Davy doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs. Lauren Bishop led things off on the rubber for Hinsdale South Varsity Hornets. The pitcher surrendered three runs on five hits over five innings, striking out five. Hinsdale South. Ashley Leban, Kayla Buckels-Meen, Callie Carr, and Lilly Davy each collected multiple hits for Hinsdale South Varsity Hornets. 0 defensive errors on the day.
Week of April 10th
The Hornets lost all 4 games this week- we are playing a tough schedule and are still making some great plays.
Highlights included: ● Alexis Kuhlman getting her first varsity hit with a double. ● Amber Fedinec making her debut on the pitching mound ● Annika Nicol went 3 for 4 - Ashley Leban went 2 for 4 - and Audrey Mulgrew went 2 for 4 in the Glenbard West game. ● Noelle Waterman, Lauren Bishop, Isabella Yanez all contributed with hits this week.
Week of April 3rd
The Hornets had their home opener against Naperville Central after spring break on 4/3. While Ashley Leban had 8 strikeouts, the Hornet bats fell short and Naperville ended up winning in 6 (game ended on account of rain) by a score of 11-6. Annika Nicol, Caitlin Bishop, Lauren Bishop, and Noelle Waterman all had RBIs.
The Hornets then immediately faced an incredibly solid Providence Catholic on 4/4. Lauren Bishop and Amber Fedinec had the only hits on the day. Lauren Bishop had 1 strikeout and only allowed 3 earned runs.
The Hornets tried to mix some things up against RB on 4/6. RB racked up 11 hits on the day and scored 11 runs. Ashley Leban had a single and Lauren Bishop hit her first varsity home run! Defensively, Alexis Kuhlman made a heck of a diving play to her left!
The Hornets dropped a heartbreaker on Saturday 4/8 against Oak Lawn losing by a score of 4-5. While the Hornets out hit the Spartans (9 hits to 6), the Hornets baserunning was subpar. Isabella Yanez had her first varsity homer as a clutch 2 run BOMB! And Lilly Davy went 3 for 4! Caitlin Bishop, Amber Fedinec, Noelle Waterman, and Ashley Leban all contributed with hits. Looking forward to resetting and playing against Nazareth on Monday.
Week of March 20th
The Hornets played against the notoriously seasoned Glenbard South on Wednesday 3/22. As a team they racked up a total of 15 hits during the game!! Leading the Hornet offense were Amber Fedinec and Ashley Leban with 3 hits each. Callie Carr, Lilly Davy, and Noelle Waterman also contributed with 2 hits each. Annika Nicol in the lead off spot had 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Everyone contributed and played different spots on the field. Ashley Leban was in the circle to start with Annika Nicol calling some amazing pitches behind the plate. Ashley held the Raiders to a team batting average of only .188, only allowing 3 hits in 4 innings– she stranded 4 on base. Lauren Bishop took the mound during less than ideal weather conditions– it was raining.. and slightly dark. Lauren had 4 excellent strikeouts. The Hornet defense had their pitchers backs and made zero fielding errors. Looking forward to the next dry and sunny game.
