Week of May 1st The Girl's Water Polo Team had a busy week with a loss to Homewood Flossmoor on Monday, Hinsdale Central on Wednesday and their final game of the season on Thursday with a loss to Lockport High School in the sectional playoff game. The girls played hard until the end with shots and scores by: Amy Driggers, Maggie Johnston. Gaby Iliev, Taryn Bazon, Caroline Dunford, Autumn Lambke, Dyana Benian, Ieva Heininga, Sammy Aylward and Sarah Cardenas. Also playing hard on both offense and defense included: Mandy Aylward, Ellie Urban, Sarah Cardinas and Hailey Bishop.
On Thursday, the girls said goodbye to Coach Nelson as she coached her last game at Hinsdale South as she prepares for her retirement. Coach Nelson will be missed by all! Congratulations on a well played season ladies, you all carried yourselves with character and dignity both in the pool and out of the pool. Sportsmanship was demonstrated by all as did the support for one another as a team.
Week of April 24th The Girls Water Polo Team celebrated their seniors against the Argonauts on Monday. Thank you and good luck with your future endeavors to Gaby Iliev and Amy Driggers. It was truly a pleasure having the two of you with us and you will both be missed. On Wednesday, we lost our last home game to Main East. Top scorers for the week included: Caroline Dunford, Amy Driggers, Taryn Bazon and Autumn Lambke. Next week will be busy as we travel to Homewood Flossmoor on Monday, Hinsdale Central on Wednesday and Lockport on Thursday for the IHSA Sectional.
Week of April 17th The Girl's Water Polo Team lost to Bremen High School on Monday evening and after a long week, they were defeated by Warren High School on Friday evening by the score of 6-5. Top players on defense with steals included: Maggie Johnston, Amy Driggers, Sammy Aylward, and leva Heininga. On offense, recognition for goals and assists were: Maggie Johnston, Taryn Brazon, Caroline Dunford, and Autumn Lambke. Please join us on Monday (4/24) as we honor our Seniors against Argo Community High at Hinsdale South. On Wednesday (4/26) we will be home against Main East.
Week of April 10th The Girl's Water Polo Team lost to Oak Park River Forest on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday, we lost to Richards at home. Top players for the Hornets were: Amy Driggers, Maggie Johnston, Taryn Bazon, Caroline Dundord, Gaby Iliev, Autumn Lambke, Ieva Heininga and Sammy Aylward.
On Saturday, the girls placed fourth in the Hornets Tournament with lots of exciting play. They finished the tournament off with a game against Kennedy High School with lots of team effort and enthusiasm. Top players for this game included: Mandy Aylward, Ellie Urban, Dyana Banian, Sarah Cardenas, Ryley Owens and Maggie Flemming. The team nominated Autumn Lambke as "Player of the Tournament" for her outstanding performance on both defense and offense with assists, steals and goals! The girl's are home on Monday as they face the Bremen Braves and will travel to Warren High School on Friday. Congratulations on a great week and good luck with this coming week.
Week of April 3rd The Girl's Water Polo Team defeated Leyden High School on Monday evening. Top scorers for the Hornets were: Maggie Johnston, Caroline Dunford and Autumn Lambke. Other point earners were Sam Aylward and Taryn Bazon. Other recognition goes out to our goalies Amy Driggers and Sarah Cardenas for 8 blocked shots on the defensive side of the game.
On Thursday, the girls were defeated by Saint Charles East, however, due to the great play by Maggie Johnston, Amy Driggers, Caroline Dunford, Autumn Lambke and Ieva Heining, we were able to score 9 goals to a very strong team. Other contributions on both offense and defence included Taryn Bazon, Diana Banian, Gaby Iliev and Sam Aylward. Next week, we are scheduled to play OPRF (away) on Tuesday evening, Richard at home on Wednesday and hosting our own four team tournament on Saturday morning!
Week of March 20th The Girl's Water Polo Team lost to Saint Charles North on Monday and Riverside Brookfield on Wednesday. Congratulations to Taryn Bazon and Autumn Lambke on scoring their first goals in their water polo careers. Other strong players contributing strong assists and tough defensive play were: Gaby Iliev, Dyana Banian, Hailey Bishop and Amy Driggers. The girls will not have any games next week, but will compete at home on Monday evening (4/3) against Leyden High School and Saint Charles East on Thursday (4/6).
Week of March 13th The Girl's Water Polo Team had a busy week. Even though they were defeated by Lincoln Way West on Wednesday and York on Thursday, the team played hard and continues to demonstrate much improvement. Our top scorers for the week were Maggie Johnston, Caroline Dunford and Taryn Bazon. Other shooters for the week were Amy Driggers, Autumn Lambke, Leva Heininga and Riley Owens. In the goal and doing an outstanding job for the team were Amy Driggers, Sarah Cardenas and Mandy Aylward. Keep up the hard work Hornets! Next week we will be traveling to Saint Charles North on Monday evening and are back home competing against Riverside Brookfield in our home pool on Wednesday.
Week of March 6th The Girls Water Polo Team is back in the water for another exciting season. The Team will be led this year by returning seniors Gaby Iliev and Amy Driggers. Also returning this season are: Sammy Aylward, Maggie Johnston, Caroline Dunford, Diana Banian, Ieva Heininga and Sarah Cardenas. We are happy to welcome many new faces on the team this year: Mandy Aylward, Brianna Cortez, Ellie Urban, Taryn Bazon, Autumn Lambke, Riley Owens and Hailey Bishop.
The girls began their season with a JV win against Metea Valley on Monday Evening. High scores were Caroline Dunford and Maggie Johnston. On Defense, recognition goes out to Amy Driggers for her outstanding performance in the goal. The team went on to lose to LTHS on Thursday and Stagg on Friday. High team scorers were Caroline Dunford and Maggie Johnston. The girls continue to work hard and we expect great things from our new players this season as we continue to progress.
