JV Monday 5/8 vs. Riverside Brookfield L 0-2 (13-25, 19-25) The Hornets faced a touch test against the Bulldogs who were a very tough JV team. Strong serving by Middle Blocker Kushal Modugulu kept set two close for the Hornets
Wednesday 5/10 vs. York L 0-2 (8-25, 16-25) Set one was one to forget for the Hornets but they rebounded nicely in set two to keep it close. At 15-15 York was able to bust it open with a strong offensive run to close the door on the Hornets pushing this match to 3 sets.

Week of May 1st
Varsity Varsity opened up the week at Oswego East with a 3 set loss. In a very competitive match, freshmen Tomasz Lobas had a great match with several aces , over 5 kills , and 2 blocks,
To move to 4-1 in conference varsity cruised to a 2 set victory against Proviso East. Everyone on the team was able to contribute to get the win.
To close out the week, the hornets hosted Hinsdale Central on our wounded warrior night. In a thrilling 3 set match the hornets came up just short. Some great defensive play by Nick Ockrim kept varsity in a lot of rallies down the stretch. Thank you to everyone who donated and purchased items for the event. Both schools were able to raise over $5,000 for the wounded warrior project.
JV Monday 5/1 vs. Oswego East W 2-0 (25-23, 25-19) After being down 10-17 in the first set, a setter substitution to get Zac Carder in the game changed the offensive tone of the match and sparked a 15-6 Hornets run to come back and win the set. After a fast start in set two with a nice service run by Libero Johnathan Flores Ruiz the hornets were able to finish with a nice two victory
Tuesday 5/2 vs. Proviso East W 2-0 (25-20, 25-20) Against a pesky Pirates squad, the Hornets were able to find different ways to keep momentum and keep the Pirates off balance. Timely blocking from Middle Blocker Martin Fluffs and Right Side Matt Cappetta set the tone for a straight set victory.
Thursday 5/4 vs. Hinsdale Central L 1-2 (25-21, 21-25, 17-25) In a heated match against our cross town rival, the Hornets pushed the Red Devils to the limit. After tough first two sets, the Hornets started to get weary down the stretch. With a couple touch breaks with momentum plays made by Central mid-way through set 3, the Red Devils were able to seperate and close out a high energy and intense match.

Week of April 24th
Varsity The Hornets started a 4 match week with a 2 set win vs St. Laurence. This was a great team effort with the fewest errors of the season and some great serving.
Tuesday varsity improved to 3-1 in conference play with a 2 set victory at Leyden. Middles Adrian Folfas and Tomasz Lobas controlled the net with the highest hitting percentages of the match.
Without a day off the lions of LT came into South and we’re too much offense to handle. Coming out a little flat, the Hornets lost in consecutive sets.
To end a successful week the Hornets were able to play a fast paced match and win in 2 sets vs. Fenton. Freshmen Justyn Giadla had a great match with strong serve receive and over 5 kills.
JV Monday 4/24 vs St. Laurence L 0-2 (18-25, 22-25) The hornets found themselves matched up against a St. Laurence team which committed very few errors and showed extreme ball control in pressure situations. The hornets made it close in set 2 with a strong service run by Middle Hitter Kushal Modugulu to keep the match tight.
Tuesday 4/25 vs Leyden L 1-2 (32-34, 25-16, 18-25) In a back and forth first set loss by a crazy 32-34 score, the Hornets bounced back strong in set 2 led by offense power attacks by Sam Schuyler. Unfortunately the momentum gained was not enough to keep Leyden at bay with South dropping a 3rd set of this thrilling match.
Wednesday 4/26 vs Lyons Township L 0-2 (11-25, 7-25) LT proved to be the toughest matchup for the Hornets all season. The hornets fought as much as they good against a top JV team in LT.
Thursday 4/27 vs Fenton L 0-2 (15-25, 20-25) Squaring off a surprising tough Fenton team, JV tried to keep up with the intensity of the match. Strong offensive efforts by Outside Hitter Anthony Cox and Sam Schuyler kept set 2 close and kept the Hornets fighting till the end.
Saturday 4/29 - Leyden Tournament vs. Streamwood L 0-2 (23-25, 21-25) vs. Proviso West W 2-0 (25-16, 25-12) vs. Bartlett L 0-2 (19-25, 21-25) vs. Leyden L 0-2 (23-25, 21-25) vs. Fenton L 0-2 (17-25, 19-25) Hinsdale South got to see some famaliar opponents during this Leyden Tournament and tried their best to get revenge. Streamwood, who ended up winning the tournament, proved to be the Hornets best match of the day. In a tight 9am opening match vs the Sabres, Hinsdale South served aggressively by DS Jacob Gromadzki to keep both sets of the match close. The whole day South fought tough teams and definitely proved their worth.

Week of April 17th
Varsity Varsity opened up an undefeated week with a convincing win in 2 sets against Nazareth. The offense was cooking with both middles Adrian Folfas and Tomasz Lobas racking up big kill totals .
On Tuesday varsity went into Morton and grabbed 2 quick set wins to move to 2-1 in conference. Sophomore Nick Ockrim kept the hornets in every play with his defense and led the team in digs.
To close out the week, the Hornets got in a 3 set thriller with Geneva. Great pin hitting by Quinn Marron and Nate Ockrim paced the offense to capture another win for the hornets.
JV Monday 4/17 vs Nazareth W 2-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-8) A sluggish match on a monday night for the Hornets through the first two sets against Naz until a solid effort 3rd set to solidify a 3 set match victory. Big kills by Right Side Hitter Angel Milososki and Outside Hitter Emilis Kudarauskas early in the 3rd set woke up the Hornets to easily run away with the victory
Tuesday 4/18 vs Morton L 0-2 (25-15, 22-25) Another sluggish start for the Hornets in set 1 but the team was sparked by a lineup change in set 2 with the insertion of Setter Landon Schroeder into the starting lineup. The Hornets found a spark and made the 2nd set competitive against a very scrappy Morton team.
Thursday 4/20 vs Geneva W 2-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-21) In what was the best performance of the season for the Hornets, they were able to fight off a pesky Geneva team for a very solid win. Serving was the name of the game for South led by strong service runs by Middle Hitter Kushal Modugulu and Setter Zac Carder as the Hornets all match were able to keep Geneva out of system and kept their offense at bay because of it. Timely kills by Outside Hitter Sam Schuyler provided the offense the boost they needed at the right times.
Freshman The Freshman A team had two strong wins this week against Geneva and Morton. The team avenged a previous loss to Geneva with strong serving from Navin Linson and an impressive offensive display form RJ Corson. The Hornets look to continue their winning ways in a busy week next week against four quality opponents.
The Freshman B team suffered two defeats at the hands of Geneva and Morton. Despite battling to the end in both matches, the Hornets came up short. Patrick Kowalczyk lead the team with a couple impressive service runs, and provided the team with a solid foundation to build on for the coming week.
Week of April 10th
Varsity On Tuesday the Hornets hosted Downers Grove South and lost a very competitive match to the mustangs. Thursday night varsity got back on track with a well played 3 set win over Bolingbrook. Some excellent serving by Tomasz Lobas and Nick Ockrim kept the pressure on. To close out the week varsity won a 3 set match against Larkin. Some great defense by Larkin and the hornets led to some long rallies.
JV Tuesday 4/11 vs Downers Grove South L 1-2 (29-27, 24-26, 21-25) In what was a highly anticipated match and high energy match throughout, the Hornets just came up short unfortunately. Strong receive led by Libero Johnathan Flores Ruiz and DS Jacob Gromadzki. Outside Hitter Sam Schuyler with several big kills in set 1 to set the tone offensively for the rest of the match.
Thursday 4/13 vs Bolingbrook L 0-2 (21-25, 21-25) South matched up well against a Bolingbrook team that barely made mistakes during the match. Quality setting from Eric Fournier and Zac Carder helped support us offensively for our hitters to try our best to match the firepower of Bolingbrook.
Friday 4/14 vs Larkin W 2-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-15) In an up and down match for the Hornets, they were able to withstand a pesky Larkin team which pushed this match to the limits with their scrappy play. Big contributions by Middle Hitters Kushal Modugulu and Ryan Walters as the Hornets were able to find new offense contributors to find separation in the 3rd set to win this match.
Saturday 4/15 - Barrington Tournament vs Lake Zurich L 1-2 (25-23, 23-25, 12-15) vs. Barrington L 0-2 (14-25, 16-25) vs Mundelein L 0-2 (18-25, 19-25) vs. South Elgin L 0-2 (18-25, 14-25) The early morning start at 8:30am wasn't a problem in getting warmed up for the day. Tough 3 set match against Lake Zurich that play very well offensively. The Hornets played great defense to have this match go the distance and push it all the way to the end. 7 points of total difference between the 3 sets with these teams shows the neck and neck battle that took place here. The next 3 matches vs Barrington, Mundelein, and South Elgin were some of the toughest teams the Hornets have seen to date. They mustered all the effort they could for the remainder of the tournament but unfortunately came up short on this day.
Freshman After losing a close match to a very strong DGS team, the Hornets rebounded with wins against Bolingbrook and Larkin before finishing in 7th place at a tough South Elgin Invite on Saturday, April 16th. The Hornets look forward to continue conference play this upcoming week against Morton, as well as avenging an earlier loss to Geneva High School on Thursday.
Week of April 3rd
Varsity Tuesday varsity opened up conference play with a win over Willowbrook. Strong offensive plays by middles Adrian Folfas and tomasz Lobas set the tone. The next day following, the hornets lost a close 3 set match against Sandburgs aggressive serving. To close out the week varsity got a convincing win against Stagg with a great team effort on offense and behind the service line.
JV Tuesday 4/4 vs Willowbrook W 2-1 (24-26, 25-16, 25-18) Coming out of spring break the hornets started off slow versus the Warriors of Willowbrook. After gaining momentum to close out the first set, the Hornets took care of business to win the next two and the match. Led by a strong service run by Eric Fournier in the 2nd set and a strong offensive performance by Outside Hitter Emilis Kudarauskas in the 3rd set, the Hornets got win #2 on the year
Wednesday 4/5 vs Sandburg L 1-2 (25-21, 15-25, 11-25) The hornets were able to steal a victory set 1 lead by strong block efforts by Middle Hitter Kushal Moduglul. Sets 2 and 3 Sandburg was able to navigate their way to a match victory. The hornets were able to put up a strong effort defensively to keep the 2nd and 3rd sets close in the beginning.
Thursday 4/6 vs Stagg L 0-2 (15-25, 13-25) The Hornets toughest match to date vs the Chargers of Stagg. Stagg was very formidable up front with good Outside Hitters with jump serves. Good passing early in both sets by Libero Johnathan Flores Ruiz and Defensive Specialist Aariz Ali kept the Hornets in the match for as long as possible.
Freshman The Hornets had strong wins this week against Willowbrook and Stagg, and suffered a loss to a very good Sandburg team. The freshman hornets got their first taste of tournament play in the St. Charles North Invite. The team finished 2-3 after a long day where we gained valuable experience.
Week of March 27th
Varsity The hornets went to Argo for a 2 day tournament. Friday brought 2 close losses. Reavis was a 2 set loss and st Laurence was a great battle with some good defense but resulted in a 3 set loss. Saturday was a new day and varsity swept the day going 3-0 with wins over mt. Carmel , Argo, and Shepard. Strong performances by Sophmores Kelan Nicol and Nick Ockrim helped our overall play.
Week of March 20th
Varsity The hornets opened up the season with a 3 set loss to Plainfield north. The young squad played a great match with Nate Ockrim leading the way on offense. Thursday varsity had a efficient win at Elmwood Park with everyone on the team contributing to a 2 set win.
JV Wednesday - March 22nd vs Plainfield North L 0-2 (14-25, 19-25) Tough opening loss for the Hornets to start the season. The team showed great potential led by Middle Hitter Kushal Modugulu and Outside Hitter Sam Schuyler. Libero Johnathan Flores Ruiz played excellent defense and serve receive to keep set 2 close till the end.
Thursday - March 23rd vs Elmwood Park W 2-0 (25-14, 25-19) Great bounce back win led by a long service run by Setter Eric Fournier in the first set. Set 2 played much closer till the offense broke loose led by kills from Outside Hitter Anthony Cox and Right Side Hitter Emilis Kudarauskas.
Freshman The hornets opened the season with a difficult loss against Plainfield North. The hornets battled to the end but ultimately ended up falling. The match showed much to work on for the coming weeks.
