Varsity Without practice in between these many games the past few weeks, the Hornets looked to try and get out of their slump against Willowbrook. Unfortunately, Willowbrook hit the ball very well, all over the field. Nicole Kaleta had some phenomenal diving catches/attempts. Annika Nicol picked a girl off at third base. Caelyn Chorzempa with a huge double late in the game. Amber Fedinec also contributed with a double. Looking forward to a couple practices together before we face Leyden on Thursday!

Week of May 9th
Varsity On Monday, the Hornets played against Proviso East. Audrey Mulgrew was 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs. Ashley Leban brought the heat striking out 8 of 12 batters and throwing a PERFECT GAME! She not only was a masterful pitcher, she also went 4 for 4 at the plate with 3 singles, 1 double, and 5 RBIs. Annika Nicol was 3 for 3 with 3 singles. Lauren Bishop was 2 for 2 with 2 singles and made her debut at 1st base!
The Hornets played against Addison Trail on Tuesday. Although the Hornets fell short, highlights include Amber Fedinec going 2 for 3 with a homerun and a single. Stephanie Rochowicz was also 2 for 3 with two singles. Annika Nicol was 1 for 1 at the plate. Lauren Bishop was on the mound for 4 innings, only allowing 1 hit.
The Hornets faced Morton for senior night and won by a score of 2-1. Ashley Leban pitched a fantastic game hitting her spots and bringing the heat (in the middle of the actual heat!!). She only allowed 2 hits and 1 earned run. Senior Nikki Berger had a double. Annika Nicol and Noelle Waterman also had clutch doubles. Isabella Yanez contributed with a single. Go Hornets!
The Hornets’ bus hit a pothole against a great hitting DGS. The Hornets’ bats were cold, but Amber Fedinec, Ashley Leban, and Isabella Yanez all contributed with singles.
The Hornets played a solid 3 innings against a very solid LT, and then fell short after that. Caitlin Bishop, Lauren Bishop, Ashley Leban, Stephanie Rochowicz, and Isabella Yanez all contributed with singles.

Week of May 2nd
Varsity On Monday, the Hornets faced Leyden. After not scoring for the first 5 innings, Kaylin Drake got on base with an infield single. Then Isabella Yanez walked. Nikki Berger came up to bat and hit an absolute BOMB to center field (Leyden’s fence is DEEP!) to tie the game. In the top of the 7th, Noelle Waterman started a rally by singling on a hard line drive to center field. Lauren Bishop singled on an infield hit where Noelle advanced to third. Stephanie Rochowicz then hit a deep double to center scoring both to take the lead 5-3. Unfortunately, a speedy Leyden team did the right things at the right time and ended up winning on a walk off double in the bottom of the 7th.
On Saturday the Hornets played at the Knight Invite. Game 1, they faced a 16-1, number one ICA ranked Antioch softball team. The Hornets competed the entire game, but fell short by a score of 0-2. Highlights included a wonderfully pitched game by Lauren Bishop, only allowing 1 earned run and striking out 5. Stephanie Rochowicz, Ashley Leban, and Isabella Yanez all broke up the no hitter with singles.
The Hornets rallied in game 2 against Glenbard East and won 5-4. Noelle Waterman was 2 for 3 with 2 singles. Amber Fedinec was 4 for 4 with 2 singles, 2 homeruns (including the walk off homerun to win the game!), and 3 RBIs. Ashley Leban pitched a phenomenal game, only allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 6.

Week of April 25th
Varsity On Monday, the Hornets got back to .500 in conference when they played against Morton and won by a score of 7-5. Nikki Berger was 2/4 with a single, HR and 2 RBIs. Amber Fedinec was 2/4 with a single, double, and 2 RBIs. Caitlin Bishop, Ashley Leban, Stephanie Rochowicz, Noelle Waterman, and Isabella Yanez all contributed with hits. Lauren Bishop had 7 Ks and Ashley Leban finished the game with 5 Ks. Great team win!
On Tuesday, the Hornets defeated Glenbard West by a score of 13-4. The bats got hot in the 2nd and the 6th. Nikki Berger was 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs. Amber Fedinec was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, a single and 3 RBIs. Nicole Kaleta was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Kaylin Drake, Ashley Leban, and Caitlin Bishop all added RBIs. Also, in a strange twist of events, Caitlin Bishop caught for her sister Lauren Bishop, serving as the team’s ultimate utility player (she’s played outfield, 2B, 3B and now caught!).
On Wednesday, the Hornets played their hearts out to try and break DGS’s 87 game conference win streak. Noelle Waterman played an absolutely phenomenal right field with 2 game changing catches. Lauren Bishop pitched her heart out for 5 innings, striking out 6 hitters and only allowing 1 earned run. Ashley Leban came in to relieve and pitched her heart out striking out 2 and stranding 4 on base. Nikki Berger was 3 for 3 with 3 singles, 2 RBIs, and 2 walks. Nicole Kaleta was 2 for 4 with 2 clutch singles and 1 RBI. Isabella Yanez was 2 for 4 with 2 timely singles and 2 runs scored. Ashley Leban and Annika Nicol each had a single that led to an RBI at a crucial moment. Noelle Waterman also contributed with a timely hit. Even though the Hornets fell short, I am incredibly proud of how they played.
The Hornets lost to a tough Willowbrook on Friday. Ashley Leban had 6 strikeouts. Caitlin Bishop, Noelle Waterman, Leban, and Amber Fedinec each managed one hit. Looking to bounce back next week!
JV 4/25/22 Even with a late start, the Hornets brought the energy and fought hard to stay in the game vs. Morton. Lily Levine went 2-3, and Kayla Buckels-Meen and Olivia Uba added doubles. Jane Gallagher showed resilience on the mound and crushed it with 11 strikeouts. Maggie Koubenec was a strong force behind the plate. Due to the late start and the game not finishing before dark, the Hornets will have their chance to finish the game and keep those runs flowing at their away game on the 11th.
4/26/22 The Hornets struggled against a powerhouse of a pitcher vs. Glenbard West. Abby Petersen went 2-2, and Lily Levine had some stellar picks at third.
4/27/22 The Hornets fought hard against a very tough Downers Grove South. What a great defensive effort by players who were shuffled around to different positions! Kayla Buckels-Meen, Lily Levine, and Grace Koziol all added singles. Jodi Strenzel-Gibson was a vacuum out in center with some all-star catches!
4/29/22 After battling some injuries and absences, the Hornets hung in there with a great hitting Willowbrook. They made the Warriors sweat and kept the game a nail-biter for the first three innings. Maggie Koubenec, Jodi Strenzel-Gibson, and Grace Koziol all added singles.
Week of April 18th
Varsity On a cold and rainy Wednesday, the Hornets took on Addison Trail at their place. Although the Hornets fell short by a score of 6-8, they battled through every element that mother nature & tiny strike zones threw at them. Highlights included Annika Nicol with a diving catch in left. Stephanie Rochowicz with a clear pickoff (although the umps completely missed it). Amber Fedinec with the 2 run bomb in the top of the 7th to put us back in the game. Rochwicz, Drake, Leban and Kaleta all with clutch hits and RBIs. Proud of pitchers Ashley Leban and Lauren Bishop for battling through the cold, rain, etc.
JV The JV team fought through the rainy and cold conditions, but unfortunately, came up short against Addison Trail. Olivia Uba, Kayla Buckels-Meen, and Elena Valincius all added singles to contribute to the team's 6 runs. The hornets are ready to bring the energy in the next week and hoping for better weather!
Week of April 11th
Varsity The Hornets continued moving the bus when they faced Nazareth. Fedinec, Berger, Leban, Nicol all racked up multiple hits. Nikki Berger with the homerun. Stephanie Rochowicz and Kaylin Drake each with an RBI. Lauren Bishop and Ashley Leban with great pitching for the win!
On 4/12 the Hornets’ bus hit a pothole and lost to a tough DGN. Although the Hornets were neck and neck for 3 innings, the team lost by a score of 1-8. Noelle Waterman and Isabella Yanez each got a hit. Nikki Berger and Kaylin Drake were 2 for 3. Looking forward to our next game!
The Hornets sure revved up the bus’ engine to get out of the pothole against Fenwick winning by a score of 13-3. Nicole Kaleta made phenomenal catches in center and Kaylin Drake came out of nowhere to catch a ball in foul territory on this windy day! Ashley Leban was 3 for 3 with a single, 2 HRs, and 7 RBIs!!! Amber Fedinec was 2 for 3 with 2 HRs and 4 RBIs. Nikki Berger also homered. Kaylin Drake and Annika Nicol each had a hit. Overall incredibly solid defense by the team!
Against Hinsdale Central, the Hornets won by a score of 4-1. Kaylin Drake and Nikki Berger made the middle infield look like a wall. Lauren Bishop pitched a masterful 6 innings, striking out 5. Ashley Leban came in to finish the game, allowing no hits. Amber Fedinec had 2 RBIs, Ashley Leban and Stephanie Rochowicz had an RBI each. Noelle Waterman made a great catch in left field.
In the second game of the double header, the Hornets faced Muchin College Prep. They clinched the second win by a score of 2-1. Ashley Leban was incredibly impressive on the mound striking out 8 and not allowing any earned runs. Stephanie Rochowicz was 2 for 3 with the most clutch doubles to put the Hornets ahead both times with 2 RBIs. Nikki Berger and Camden Kiefer are credited with the runs scored. GO HORNETS!
JV Extra practices due to canceled games really paid off for the JV team this week. Although they were unable to pull off a win, their improvements, especially at the plate, really shined through. They go into conference games next week hungry for a win.
4/13/22 The JV team fought with everything they had against a strong Downers Grove North. Abby Peterson went 2-3 and was a blocking machine behind the plate. Aileen Balcazar landed a perfect bunt and made some impressive diving catches in center. Jane Gallagher pitched a great game and showed endurance and grit on the mound.
4/14/22 The JV team lost a windy nail-biter to the Friars. The hornets were stealing machines and kept themselves in the game with their smart base-running. Aileen Balcazar and Kayla Buckels-Meen both went 3-4, and Kayla had an amazing showing on the mound with 6 strikeouts. Elena Valincius added a triple to her name, and Grace Koziol made some great plays at 2nd.
4/16/22 The JV team lost a tough one to a power-hitting Hinsdale Central. The hornets were monsters at the plate! Both Abby Peterson and Elena Valincius knocked it out of the park (literally) with home runs. Lily Levine went 3-3 and both Kayla Buckels-Meen and Olivia Uba went 3-4.
Week of April 4th
Varsity The Hornets faced Naperville Central at home on 4/4 (huge shout out to the grounds crew for even getting our field ready!!). The Hornets took the lead in the first and kept it until the 5th when Naperville Central tied it. The Hornets came back firing, scoring 2 in the 6th, but couldn’t quite hang on and gave up 4 in the 7th to ultimately lose by a score of 7-9. Highlights from the game were Caitlin Bishop 3 for 4, Nikki Berger 2 for 3, 1 RBI. Amber Fedinec with a timely homerun for 2 RBIs. Ashley Leban and Kaylin Drake with timely hits for 2 RBIs each. Annika Nicol also had a hit and one run scored. Lauren Bishop struck out 7. After the devastating loss to Naperville Central, the Hornets came back firing and defeated St. Ignatius 12-0. Nicole Kaleta was 3/3 with 2 singles and a HR, 3 RBIs total & 3 runs scored! Nikki Berger, Stephanie Rochowicz, Noelle Waterman, and Amber Fedinec were all 2 for 3! Kaylin Drake, Ashley Leban, and Caitlin Bishop all had 1 RBI. Lauren Bishop threw a no hitter, striking out 8!
Week of March 21st
Varsity Hornets lost their home opener to a speedy St. Laurence. Ashley Leban pitched four innings, striking out four. Lauren Bishop came in to pitch in her first varsity game and struck out 5 of 12 batters faced. Great job by both pitchers! Amber Fedinec went deep with a homer in the second inning to put Hinsdale South on the board. Kaylin Drake, Nicole Kaleta, and Fedinec each collected one hit. Looking forward to stringing some hits together at our next game! JV The JV softball team played their first game of the season at St. Laurence on 3/21. The hornets were shutout 15-0, and are looking to improve as the season progresses. Aileen Balcazar and Olivia Uba both had a strong defensive showing by making multiple plays in the field.
