Week of May 9th The Girls Water Polo Team finished off their season last Tuesday with a loss to the Porters of Lockport. The girls started out strong but didn't have enough left to keep it going throughout the game. Top scorers for the game included: Lily Yurkovich, Maggie Johnston and Alana Plzak. On defense we had: Madeline Chmiel, Caroline Dunford, Aava Farokhian, Taeya Borek, Gaby Ilieve, Elizabeth Vandercar, Annabelle Dunford and Madison Velasquez. Congratulations on a great season this year ladies and a warm goodbye to all of our seniors that will be greatly missed.
Week of May 2nd On Wednesday, the Girls Water Polo Team lost to Hinsdale Central in their final regular season game. On Friday, the J.V. team played their final game of the season losing to O.P.R.F at the Conference Championship Tournament. The girls did a great job and gave it their all. Special recognition goes out to: Elizabeth Vadercar, Diana Banian, Adrienna Howard Scott, Sarah Cardenas, Jenna Cox and Sammy Aylward for a wonderful season. We are thankful for all of their hard work and are looking forward to having some of the underclassmen back next year. On Saturday, the Varsity Team lost to Hinsdale Central at the Varsity Conference Championship Tournament. The Varsity Team will begin regional playoffs on Tuesday Evening at Lockport High School. Week of April 25th The Girls Water Polo Team was defeated by Argo on Monday Evening. Top players on offense for shooting and assists included:Aava Faokian, Alana Plzak, Annabelle Dunford and Lily Yurkovich. Top steals on defense were: Julia Banka, Gaby Iliev, Taeya Borek and Caroline Dunford.
The Girls had a home game against Main East with a loss on the Varsity Level. The J.V. team defeated Main East with outstanding play by Caroline Dunford, Gaby Iliev, Sammy Aylward, Diana Banian, Sarah Cardenas and Maggie Johnston.
On Thursday, we traveled to Midlothian for a loss to Bremman High School. The girls played hard but couldn't beat the Bremman Braves. Top performances included: Lilly Yurkovich, Madeline Chmiel, Elizabeth Vadercar, Madison Velasquez and Jenna Cox. This week, we will play Hinsdale Central on Wednesday evening, followed by conference playoffs on Friday evening and Saturday morning at L.T. High School.
Week of April 18th The Girls Water Polo Team lost to York High School on Monday Evening. The girls played hard but not enough to beat the tough play by the York Dukes.
On Tuesday, we had our Senior Night and bid farewell to: Madeline Chmiel, Julia Banka, Aava Farokhian, Taeya Borek, Elizabeth Vandercar, Annabelle Dunford, Madison Velasquez, Alana Plzak, Jenna Cox and Lily Yurkovich. We are very thankful to have this amazing group of young ladies come through the Water Polo program at Hinsdale South. You will all be missed very much as you move on to bigger things. The Varsity team lost to Morton by a 2 point game with scorers: Annabelle Dunford, Alana Plzak and Lily Yurkovich. Taeya Borek led the defense in steals. The J.V. Team defeated Morton with High scorers Maggie Johnston, Gaby Iliev and Caroline Dunford. Nice job to all and keep playing hard next week as we take on Argo on Monday (at Argo), Maine East on Wednesday (at Hinsdale Central) and Bremen on Thursday (at Bremen).
Week of April 11th The Girls Water Polo Team lost to Oak Park River Forest High School on Tuesday evening. Even though it was a low scoring game, the girls played hard and gave it their all. Top players for the evening included:Maggie Johnston, Aava Farokhian, Lily Yurkovich, Gaby Iliev, Taeya Borek, Madison Velasquez, Alana Plzak and Caroline Dunford.
The Girls traveled to Waubonsie Valley High School on Thursday for a loss to the Warriors. Top players for Hinsdale South were; Lilly Yurkovich, Taeya Borek, Maggie Johnston, Gaby Iliev, Caroline Dunford, Madeline Chmiel and Julia Banka. Next week, the team will face York High School at York on Monday Evening.
On Tuesday, we will recognize our wonderful seniors for senior night, as they face off against J.S. Morton at Hinsdale Central's pool. Please stop by and support our team against the Mustangs and help us send off our senior squad.
Week of April 4th The Girls Water Polo Team defeated Resurrection on Monday evening! Top players and scorers for the evening were: Maggie Jonston, Caroline Dunford, Julia Banka, AavaFarokhian, Gaby Iliev, Elizabeth Vandercar, Amy Driggers and Taeya Borek.
On Thursday, the team traveled to take on Saint Charles East. Although the girls played tough and came back with a close loss, it was a fun game for all as the team is becoming more competitive each week. Top scorers included: Lily Yurkovich and Taeya Borek with lots of assistance from Madeline Chmiel, Maggie Johnston, Aava Farokhian and Alana Plzak.This week, we will compete against Oak Park River Forest on Tuesday at home and travel to Waubonsie Valley on Thursday.
Week of March 21st The Girls Water polo team came off of some tough competition with a loss to Saint Charles North and Riverside Brookfield High Schools. With our low numbers, the girls are giving their all, playing at times both Varsity and JV games back to back. Top performances for the week included: Maggie Johnston, Caroline Dunford, Aava Farokhian, Taeya Borek, Madison Velasquez and Lilly Yurkovich. Congratulations to Jenna Cox on her amazing play as she stepped up in a crisis to fill the goalie position against Riverside Brookfield. The team doesn't have any games scheduled this week but will be training hard for our two games next on Monday against Resurrection and Thursday against Saint Charles East.
Week of March 14th The Girls Water Polo Team played another rough week being defeated by Andrew on Monday, Richards on Tuesday and Lincoln Way West on Wednesday. Even though the girls were exhausted with three games in a row, they gave it their all. Standout players on the Varsity level included: Madeline Chimiel, Annabelle Dunford, AAva Farokhian, Elizabeth Vandercar, Lily Yurkovich, Amy Driggers and Taaeya Borek. Playing on both the Varsity and J.V. rosters were Maggie Johnston and Caroline Dunford. Please join on Monday at Hinsdale Central as the Hornets take on Saint Charles North at 6:00 and Wednesday as we travel to Riverside Brookfield. Good luck ladies and keep up the outstanding work!
Week of March 7th The Girl's Water Polo team is back and led by seniors: Madeline Chumiel, Jenna Cox, Aava Farokhian, Annabelle Dunford, Alana Plzak, Elizabeth Vandercar, Madison Velasquez, Taeya Borek and Lily Yurkovich. We are happy to welcome our Freshmen to the 2022 roster: Diana Banian, Caroline Dunford, Ieva Haininga, Adrieanna Howard-Scott and Sarah Cardenas. The Girls had a great start to their season. They lost to Metea Valley, Homewood Flossmoor and Stagg all by one point including overtime on Tuesday to H.F. On Wednesday, the girls took a larger loss to Lions Township to a very strong team. We are very proud of the girls as we have low numbers, the girls have been playing very well due to their hard work and giving 100% to the sport. We are happy to have back our veteran players from last year that do a fantastic job on both offense and defense: Gabby Iliev and Maggie Johnston. Special recognition goes out to Amy Driggers for her outstanding performance in the goal. Amy has been playing all 4 periods of every game this week. This is very tiring due to the fact she is treading water for a whole game without any substitutions to relieve her. This week, we are home on Monday against Andrew, on Tuesday we will travel to Richards in Oak Lawn and on Wednesday, we will be traveling to Lincoln Way West. Please come out and support the young ladies as they give it their all each and every game!
