Varsity Another strong week for the Hornet Varsity Badminton team. We started the week with a dominating win over conference rival Willowbrook, followed up by a strong showing at the Wheaton-Warrenville South Quad and then finishing the week with a second place finish at our Spring Break Tournament. Sophomore Abby Lu made some great strides moving from JV to the Varsity line-up. Gracie Wilcox had a great win against Willowbrook and Angela Le and Maryam Beilani played some seriously inspired singles games as well.
JV The JV Badminton team had an amazing second week of the season. The JV team competed in their second conference dual meet on Wednesday without their #1 Singles player. Congratulations to Abby Lu as she embarks on her journey with the Varsity team. The team rallied together to defeat Willowbrook 10-5. During this week's quad, Kyra Harrison and Magda MacLeod took phenomenal strides as first-time, competitive Badminton players.
On Saturday, the team participated in the Metea Valley tournament. All participants earned at least third place which led us to a second-place (29 points) finish behind Metea Valley (32 points). Congratulations to our players who were able to finish undefeated: #1 Singles (Ann Valiathara), #3 Singles (Kyra Harrison), and #4 Doubles (Brookelyn Baur and Maddie LaPointe).
Freshman The freshman badminton team had a great week! On Wednesday they battled it out against Willowbrook and defeated them 14-1! Marianna Alvarez #10 singles, Karen Zaki #7 singles and the doubles team of Vivian Ling and Eva Gurklys #3 doubles were some of the girls who had strong battles against Willowbrook and started the trend of winning on Wednesday!
On Thursday the freshman traveled to Lake Park for a quad where they dominated in both singles and doubles. They only lost 4 matches out of 24 matches played! Sophie Petrosius, Bianca Bares and Faith Elliott had great determination throughout the whole quad.
On Saturday, the freshmen participated in the Carl Sandburg freshman tournament. As a team they took 2nd place. Each girl had to play 5 matches which tested their endurance, strength, drive and determination. Every Hornet at the tournament stepped up to the challenge and played the best they could! Our singles had fantastic games; Ava Chvosta #1 singles, Isabella Jarod’s #2 singles, both took 1st and brought home a gold medal! Maddy Ventimiglia #3 singles took 3rd overall. Our #2 doubles, which was the team of Uyen Million and Layla Cabrera, our #3 doubles, Vivian Ling and Ula Selickaite, lost their first match of the morning, but won all 4 of their last matches!! That’s what I call teamwork! They both ended up taking 2nd! Our #1 doubles, Maya Chrzanowska and Kelly Lin had lots of tough competition throughout the day and also took 2nd place!
