2021 Girls' Water Polo Weekly Highlights


Week of May 17th
The Girls Water Polo Team finished their season yesterday evening with a loss in the first round of IHSA State Playoffs to Saint Charles East.  Despite not having our seniors due to graduation, the underclassmen played a tough game showing much promise for future outlook.  Lead scorers included: Annabelle Dunford, Aava Farokhian, Maggie Johnston and Alana Plzak.  The team demonstrated lots of positive improvements on both offense and defense.  Our goalies, Amy Driggers and Myla Anderson played tremendous defense as well while blocking over 50% of the shots.  Awesome season ladies, enjoy your summer and be ready for Water Polo 2022!

Week of May 10th

The Girls Water Polo Team defeated Argo High on Monday evening.  High scorers for the game included:Caroline Collins, Taeya Borek, Katie Alllen and Lily Yurkovich.  Amelia Brennan prevented 13 goals from the Argonauts. 

On Wednesday, the Hornets lost to Metea Valley but played well.  Caroline Collins, Taeya Borek, Katie Allen, Kathryn Tauber and Lily Yurkovich scored a combined 8 goals against the Mustangs.

On Thursday, being the Seniors last game and the last game to be played in Hinsdale South's pool before renovations; there was plenty of excitement as the Girls faced Saint Charles East for a well played win against the Saints.  The game went back and forth, but with the strong play of the Hornet squad, the girls were able to finish their season with many fun memories.  Top players included: Caroline Collins, Katie Allen, Madeline Chimmel, Amy Driggers, Annabelle Dunford, Maggie Johnston, Haana Pitonak, Kathryn Tauber, Lilly Yurkovich and Amelia Brennan. Thank you for an amazing week girls! You can cheer on the Hornets as they play Saint Charles East again on Monday evening for their State play in game hosted by the Saints. We will be playing without our Seniors as they have their commencement on Monday evening.  We will miss them all and wish them the best!!!  

Week of May 3rd
The Girls Water Polo Team defeated Resurrection High School on Monday evening.  Along with a well played game, we had the chance to recognize our Seniors: Kaity Allen, Caroline Collins, Hailey Gallagher, Payton Hinkel, Hanna Pitonak, Kathryn Tauber and Maddy Nelson. 

On Wednesday, we traveled to Saint Charles North, but despite a tough played game, we came home with a loss.  Top scorers included Caroline Collins and Hanna Pitonak.  Our final week of regular season play will begin next week with three home games.  On Monday, we will face Argo.  On Wednesday, we will face Metea Valley and lastly, on Thursday, we will face Saint Charles East.  State Championship playoffs will conclude the following week.

Week of April 26th
On Tuesday, the Girls Water Polo Team lost to York High School.  The girls gave 100% but couldn't score enough goals to defeat the Dukes.  High scorers included Amelia Brennan and Kaity Allen. 

​On Thursday, the girls traveled to Berwyn to challenge the Morton Mustangs.  Though tired from playing both Varsity and J.V. levels, the girls lost on the Varsity level but fought hard for a tie on the J.V. Level (6-6).  High scorers against Morton included Amelia Brennan, Kaity Allen, Annabelle Dunford, Alana Plzak, Katherine Tauber and a special recognition to Gaby Illiev for scoring her first goal of the season.  The girls are demonstrating much improvement weekly as their assists and shooting percentages goes up every time they play.  Our next game we will host Resurrection High School on Monday evening (we will recognize our seniors at this time) and Wednesday the team will travel to Saint Charles North High School.  Good Luck Hornets! 

Week of April 19th
The Girls Varsity Water Polo Team lost to J.S.Morton on Tuesday evening.  Top scorers for the Hornets included Katie Allen and Caroline Collins.  Special recognition goes out to our goalkeepers Amy Driggers and Myla Anderson for blocking 6 goals.  The J.V. team tied with the Mustangs with the score of 8 - 8. 

On Thursday, the girls had a tough rematch with LTHS.  The girls did a great job the second time around both offensively and defensively.  Top scorers included Senior Katheryn Tauber and Freshman Maggie Johnston.  Next week, the Hornets will travel to York High School on Tuesday for a rematch and face Morton High School away on Thursday evening. Week of April 12th
The Girls Varsity Water Polo Team lost to Hinsdale Central on Tuesday evening at Hinsdale South, however, the J.V. Team defeated the Red Devils.  The girls played well but very tired due to our low numbers.  High scorers for the evening included: Caroline Collins, Annabelle Dunford, Alana Plzak and Lily Yurkovich. 

On Thursday, the Hornets traveled to OPRF with losses in both the Varsity and J.V. games.  High scorers included Caroline Collins, Katherine Allen and Alana Plzak.  The team gives 100% every game and demonstrates outstanding improvement with assists and tough defensive play. This includes: Julia Banka, Madeline Chimiel, Aava Farokhian, Payton Hinkel, Gabriela Iliev, Maggie Johnston, Hanna Pitonak, Kathryn Tauber, Elizabeth Vandercar and Madison Velasquez.  The girls are already looking forward to next week as they face Morton High School on Tuesday and L.T.H.S. on Thursday.  Good luck ladies and keep up the great work!

Week of April 5th
​Despite the hard work and tremendous improvement thus far this season, the Girl's Water Polo Team was defeated by L.T. on Tuesday and York High School on Thursday.  Top scorers for the Hornets included Katy Allen and Caroline Collins.  The rest of the girls played well with great defensive improvement.  The Team is currently working on offensive plays and drills to encourage growth on both sides of the ball.  You can watch the Hornets play next week with a home game on Tuesday against Hinsdale Central and Thursday with an away game against OPRF.  Good luck ladies and keep up the good work!

Week of March 29th

JV

The J.V. Girls Water Polo Team defeated OPRF on Tuesday evening at Hinsdale South.  Leading scorers were: Katy Allen, Caroline Collins, Madeline Chimiel and Hailey Gallagher.  The girls all played well both on offense and defense.  Congratulations Ladies!  Our next games will be on Tuesday at LT High School and Thursday we will be home against York.  

Week of March 22nd

Varsity
The Girl's Water Polo Team lost to Hinsdale Central on Thursday evening.  The girls played well during their season opener led by seniors Katy Allen, Caroline Collins, Hailey Gallagher, Payton Hinkel, Hanna Pitonak and Kathryn Tauber.  We have one new Freshman this year, but making a tremendous positive impact is Maggie Johnston.  The girls are very excited to be back in the water this season and we are looking forward to our first home game next Tuesday against OPRF at 5:00 P.M.​
