JV vs Glenbard West L 0-2 (14-25, 8-25) Record 3-11 Against the best JV team all year we've seen this team showed fight all match long. In what was admitted by the team the fastest pace they've had to play all year they held their own against Glenbard West. Matthew Giadla and Kyle Breskey led the way offensively to keep this game close
vs. Willowbrook L 1-2 (19-25, 25-19, 23-25) Record 3-12 In the final match of the season, JV played it's best overall match of the year. After dropping the first set, they came back to win set 2 convincingly. Besides a late run by Willowbrook late in set 2, this was all Hinsdale South. Set 3 was a battle with multiple ties and lead changes. Setter Matthew Giadla helped us with strong defense by digging a tough OH that Willowbrook played.
Freshman 6/1 Falling short to Glenbard West; 14-25 and 22-25, Adrian Folfas has a 3 point serving run and 3 kills. Nathan Ockrim had 4 kills and 3 digs to help keep the team in a close second set. Anthony Denizard had 2 digs. Djordje Mijailovic with 3 point serve run and 2 kills.
6/3 Defeating Willowbrook 25-17 and 25-20, Hornets finished their season with a big win. Brendan Savage led the team with 2 blocks, 3 digs and 5 kills on the outside. Zachary Carder had 13 assists and 4 point serve run. Djordje Mijailovic went on a 5 point serving run with 3 digs and 1 kill. Good job to all the boys and playing hard. Good season boys!
Week of May 24th
Varsity Hinsdale South had a very busy week starting with Hinsdale Central again. Playing another competitive match, varsity lost in 2 sets. On Wednesday the Hornets played Proviso East for Senior night and won in straight sets. Contributions from every player and the seniors made this a very efficient night. With this win varsity finished second in conference with a 5-1 record. To close out the week, Hinsdale South traveled to Downers Grove North. In one of the biggest wins of the season, the boys won in straight sets. Great all around play by Ryan Hashim and Jimmy Pacione made this one to remember.
JV vs Hinsdale Central L 0-2 (24-26, 22-25) Record 2-9 With the help of Freshman Brendan Savage, Adrian Folfas, and Nathan Ockrim we were able to play our cross town rival to the brink in each set. With leads late in both sets it was a hard fought match by both sides
vs Proviso East W 2-0 (25-14, 25-14) Record 3-9 Again with the help of Freshman Brendan Savage, Adrian Folfas, and Nathan Ockrim we were able to secure our 3rd win of the season vs a very scrappy Proviso East team.
vs Downers Grove North L 0-2 (16-25, 22-25) Record 3-10 In a highly contested matchup vs DGN this team should fight in the end of set 1 and all of set 2. Setter Matthew Giadla again came to play with strong setting decisions and a great offensive attack when hitting front row. Strong serving by Libero Nathan Robelo kept this game close late in set 2.
Freshman 5/25 Hornets defeated Hinsdale Central 25-19 and 25-16. Team pulled together to play a great competitive match. Brendan Savage with 2 kills and 2 blocks. Zachary Carter with 8 assists. Nathan Ockrim with 4 point serve run, 3 kills, and 2 blocks. Djordje Mijailovic with 2 kills from the middle.
5/26 Hornets defeated Proviso East 25-13 and 25-21 at home. Brendan Savage and Tyler Hallman had 2 digs back row. Zach Carder had a 5 point serving run.Tyler Hallman had 2 kills and 1 block to help bring the Hornets to a win.
5/27 Hornets defeated DGN in three; 21-25, 25-18 and 25-19. Ilija Colakovic went on an 8 point serving run to bring the team back into the game second set of the match. He also gave the team a 4 point serving run in the third set of the match and multiple digs and saves on defense. Adrian Folfas had 2 blocks and 2 kills to help with the big win.
Week of May 17th
Varsity After a difficult week the Hornets got a big win against Addison Trail at home in 3 sets. Cole Korfist and Jimmy Pacione led the offense on the outside.
JV vs Addison Trail W 2-1 (25-10, 22-25, 25-19) Record 2-8 In our first 3 set match all season we came out the strongest we've been all season vs AT. Lead by the strong offense of OH Kyle Breskey, MH Steven Czuba, and MH Rayhan Shah we were able to dominate the first set. Sets 2 and 3 were closer matched and we need strong service runs by Setter Michael Bicek and OH Lukas Isberg to get us through.
Freshman 5/18 Hornets defeated Addison Trail 25-16, 14-25 and 25-21. Zachary Carder leading the team with 5 point serve run and 8 assists. Tyler Hallman 4 point serve run. Ilija Colakovic with 6 digs and 2 big saves to keep the team in action.
Week of May 10th
Varsity Hinsdale South traveled to Willowbrook to open a very busy week with a thrilling win in 2 sets to move to 3-0 in conference. Great defense by Joey Pacentine kept this match to 2 sets. Following the win, Hinsdale South ran into a very well balanced Downers Grove South team where they lost in 2 sets. Saturday the Hornets played a competitive match with Hinsdale Central and lost some energy against a very good Lyons Township squad.
JV vs Willowbrook L 0-2 (23-25, 18-25) Record 1-5 Another tough match versus a very equal opponent. Willowbrook was very consistent with ball control which meant our defense had to perform. Strong backrow play by Libero Nathan Robelo and OH Lukas Isberg kept rallies alive for us all match. Setter Matthew Giadla led a strong offensive attack hitting on the right side as well.
vs. Downers Grove South L 0-2 (15-25, 22-25) Record 1-6 DGS is a Top 2 team we've played against all year. During the practice the day before we talked about preparation and adapting to teams tendencies. We were close during the first half of set 1 led by strong serves by OH Kyle Breskey and outstanding defense by Nathan Robelo. The 2nd set was a good turning point in the season in how volleyball is supposed to be played. It was high energy from point 1 through the end. Both MH's Steven Czuba and Rayhan Shah were forces to be reckoned with attacking and blocking.
vs Lyons Township L 0-2 (11-25, 12-25) Record 1-7 First match of a Saturday tri at LT. Setter Matthew Giadla got his first experience at running a 5-1 offense and picked this up well.
vs. York L 0-2 (12-25, 14-25) Record 1-8 second match of a Saturday tri at LT. Facing York for a 3rd time this season. Unfortunately offensively they were too much to overcome. Setter Matthew Giadla did a good job running a 5-1 offense again and we were able to get some momentum in this match from MH Steven Czuba serves.
Freshman 5/11 Big win for the team in three against Willowbrook; 16-25, 25-22, 25-28. Nathan Ockrim led the team with 5 kills and 3 digs on the outside. Tyler Hallman had a 5 point serve run and 8 assists. Brian Gambill had 2 kills in the middle.
5/13 Tough loss for the team against DGS losing 13-25 and 20-25. Brendan Savage had 2 kills and a 3 point serve run. Ilija Colakovic had 4 big digs and 2 saves to keep the team in the match. Zachary Carder running a 5-1 had 6 assists.
Week of May 3rd
Varsity Hinsdale South opened up the week with Proviso West and varsity was able to win the match in 2 sets. Staying at home the Hornets welcomed Leyden in what turned out to be a great match. Senior Emmett Savage led the middles with kills and got the squad to 2-0 in conference.
JV vs Leyden L 0-2 (23-25, 21-25) Record 1-4 Tough match versus a very equal opponent. Both sets featured many ties and lead changes on both sides. OH Kyle Breskey was able to keep us within striking distances with attacks in the front row all match. Good setting decisions by Matthew Giadla to find his hot hitters front row was key to this back and forth match.
Freshman 5/6 Defeated by Leyden 15-25 both sets, Hornets are improving day by day. 2 blocks from Nathan Ockrim and Adrian Folflas. Tyler Hallman 6-2 setter eith 5 assists.
Week of April 26th
Varsity Varsity started off the week with a solid win to open conference against Morton. Freshman setter Quinn Marron ran a very balanced offense to get the first win. Following the win the hornets matched up against York again and fell in 2.
JV 4/27 vs Morton W 2-0 (27-25, 25-22) Record 1-2 Won our first match of the year playing against a scrappy Morton team. Strong defense kept us in the game by Nathan Robelo playing Libero. Also strong serves down the stretch by MH Steven Czuba helping us close out both sets
4/29 vs York L 0-2 (12-25, 23-25) Record 1-3 Came out sluggishly in the first set versus a familiar opponent. In the 2nd set we were led by strong defense and setting by setter Matthew Giadla. Matthew was able to find MH's Steven Czuba and Rayhan Shah to keep the 2nd set close to the very end.
Freshman 4/27 Hornets fell to Morton 8-25 and 16-25. A lot of competition on defenae, Ilija Colakovic led the team with 7 digs. Brian Gambill led the team at the net. Brian had 2 kills in the middle.
4/29 Another competitive match against York. The hornets fell short; 13-25, 21-25. Middle Adrian Folfas led the team on a serving run of 6 aces along with 2 kills. Brendan Savage led the team on the outside with 2 blocks and 2 kills.
Week of April 19th
Varsity The Hornets started off their season against OPRF and lost a close 3 set match. Aggressive serving set the tone and kept this one exciting. On Thursday Varsity faced off against a very talented York squad but ended up falling in 2. Cole Korfist led the team in kills as the second set was much more competitive.
JV 4/20 vs OPRF L 0-2 (17-25, 14-25) Record: 0-1 Opening match of the year we put forth a good effort against a strong OPRF JV team. Offensive led by RS Kyle Breskey and MH Steven Czuba.
4/22 vs York L0-2 (11-25, 19-25) Record 0-2 First home match of the year and we opened up the match with several BIG blocks from MH Steven Czuba but York was too much to overcome in the first set. Second set was a closer fight that was led with strong serves by Setter Michael Bicek and offensive attack from OH Kyle Breskey
Freshman 4/20 The teams first match and first win against Oak Park-River Forest. Hornets won 14-25, 25-12, 26-24. A lot of learning and pulling together as a team occurred. Zachary Carter led us in serving aces and assistant as the 5-1 setter. Nathan Ockrim led us in kills for the three set match with 4 kills. Adrian Folfas also led us in kills from the middle for a total of 3 kills the match.
4/22 Tough loss for the team against York; 16-25, 18-25. Tyler Hallman led the team in serving aces and 4 digs. Brendan Savage led the team with 4 kills and 2 blocks. Adrian Folfas had 2 blocks and 2 kills.
