Week of May 12th
Female Athlete of the Week - Kennedy Ruff, Track

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Kennedy Ruff. On Wednesday 5/14 Junior Kennedy Ruff earned another trip to the IHSA State Meet by placing 1st in the 100mH (14.73) and 1st in the 300mH (43.89), both of which were Personal Best performances for her. It was great to see her dedication and determination carry her forward for one more week. Congratulations Kennedy - 2 event Qualifier and 2 event Sectional Champion! Congratulations Kennedy and good luck at State!

Male Athlete of the Week - Tomasz Lobas, Volleyball

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Tomasz Lobas. Tomasz led the varsity to a 2-0 week. Coming off an all-tournament selection at the Richards tournament Tomasz had 22 kills and multiple aces against Riverside Brookfield. Following that performance, Tomasz had double digit kills and several aces again against York.  Tomasz also helped the Hornets to a 6-0 WSC Conference record and back-to-back Conference Champs! Congratulations Tomasz and good luck in the playoffs! 


Week of May 5th
Female Athlete of the Week - Lucy Old, Badminton

​​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Lucy Old. Lucy has been the badminton team's #1 singles player all season.  This is the toughest task in badminton to be your team's #1 singles mean's you have to play every other team's best player all year.  You don't get a break.  You have to play your best game every day and Lucy has done that all year.  She has continually improved throughout the season and has made adjustments and decisions during the season to set herself up for success.  Lucy finally achieved that success by qualifying in singles for the IHSA State Badminton Championships at DeKalb High School.  As a junior, Lucy was one game away from qualifying and this year she made the necessary adjustments and work to make sure she achieved that goal.  Congratulations Lucy Old on making your dreams come true! Great job Lucy! Congratulations and good luck at State!

Male Athlete of the Week - DeAndre Thomas, Track & Field

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week DeAndre Thomas. DeAndre continued his sprint dominance this year by winning the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes, as well as running a leg on our 2nd place 4X100 meter relay team, at the Hinsdale South Mike Yavorski Invitational. DeAndre also took 2nd in the 100 and 4th in the 200 at the Hinsdale Central McCarthy Invitational  DeAndre also had a great Indoor season, winning the 55 meter dash and 200 meter dash at our Indoor Conference meet, and running at the Illinois Prep Top Times Indoor meet. Congrats DeAndre! 


Week of April 28th
Female Athlete of the Week - Brynn Diedrich, Soccer

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Brynn Diedrich. Brynn continued her standout season with 5 goals and 3 assists across two games, further cementing her role as the driving force of the Hornets' offense. With a season total of 28 goals and 22 assists, she leads the team in both categories and has been instrumental in guiding them to a 13-3 record. Known for her dangerous corner kicks and clinical finishing, Brynn remains a vital playmaker and consistent scoring threat. Great job Brynn! Congratulations on a great week!

Male Athlete of the Week - Brandon Elting, Baseball

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Brandon Elting. Brandon, a senior pitcher for the Varsity Baseball team, put together an impressive performance this past week against Addison Trail.  Brandon threw a complete game shutout in order to secure the conference series win for the Hornets.  In this shutout, Brandon had 14 strikeouts and only allowed 2 hits.  His 14 strikeouts brings him up to 30 in conference so far and maintains his 0.00 era across 3 conference starts.  This performance was also good enough to have Brandon named the Suburban Life Player of the Week.  Congrats Brandon! Congratulations on a great game! 


Week of April 21st
Female Athlete of the Week - Emilija Sinkevicius, Track

​​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Emilija Sinkevicius. Emilija efforts at our home invite on Friday, April 25th earned the team 30 points towards our 2nd place team score. Emilija won the High Jump - 4'10", won the Long Jump - 5.12m and won the Triple Jump - 10.90m with personal records in both the high jump and triple jump Great job Emilija! Congratulations on a great meet!

Male Athlete of the Week - Jack McDaniel, Baseball

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Jack McDaniel. Jack is a sophomore catcher for the Varsity Baseball team.  This week in 4 games played Jack batted .500 with 6 hits, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 3 walks, 7 RBIs, and 4 Runs scored.  The offensive explosion helped pace the Hornets to a 3 - 1 record on the week.  Jack also continues to show his leadership on and off the field and sets a good example for our entire program on what it takes to be a Hornet. Great job Jack! Congratulations on a great week! 


Week of February 24th
Female Athlete of the Week - Callie Carr, Wrestling

​​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Callie Carr. With a perfect 39-0 record Callie Carr wins the state championship at 155 lbs.  Her path to state was a first-place finish at the IHSA Regionals and a first-place finish at the IHSA Sectionals. Callie has a lot of firsts.  She is the first ever wrestler in Hinsdale South High School history to win first place in state with an undefeated record.  Great job Callie! Congratulations on a great year!! 

Male Athlete of the Week - Parker Chan, Swimming

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Parker Chan. Parker finished his swimming career at Hinsdale South with an outstanding 4th place finish in the 500 Freestyle and 12th in the 100 Backstroke at the 2025 IHSA State Finals.  Parker was 5th Friday after Prelims in the 500 Free and came back Saturday to drop 4 seconds from his Prelim time for a lifetime best swim, an Automatic All-American berth, and a new Hinsdale South Varsity record, breaking his own previous record.  Parker finished 12th in 100 Back after a 13th place Prelim swim.  Parker will move on to swim in the TYR Pro Series this weekend; best of luck Parker and Congratulations!!!


Week of February 17th
Female Athlete of the Week - Anya Patel, Gymnastics

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Anya Patel. Anya made history this past week at the IHSA State Meet! Anya medaled in 3 events, Bars (3rd Place), Beam (5th Place) and All Around (4th Place), earning All State Honors in all 3 events.  This tied the most medals at the State Meet in School history! Great job Anya! Congratulations on a great year!! 

Male Athlete of the Week - 200 Medley Relay, Swimming

​Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week. This past weekend at the IHSA Sectional, our 200 Medley Relay qualified for the state meet.  This is the first relay Hinsdale South has sent in 15 years to the State Finals.  The team of Parker Chan (Back-23.24), Andrew Petersen (Breast-27.74), Nicholas Marrella (Fly-23.80) and Gustas Meiliulis (Free-21.54) dropped 1.88 seconds to finish 3rd Place with a time of 1:36.32.  All four swam season best times to qualify for the State Finals.  Congratulations Parker, Andrew, Nick and Gustas!! Good luck at the State Meet!


Week of January 27th
Female Athlete of the Week - Callie Carr, Wrestling

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Callie Carr. Callie entered the Regional with a record of 29-0. She received the #1 seed in the Regional Tournament.  Her 1st match she won by Technical Fall with a score of 17-2.  Callies 2nd she won by Fall in 1:55. In the finals Callie wrestled against Kiyah Chavez of Oswego, a senior with a record of 35-8.  Callie won by Technical Fall with a score of 19-2.  Callie's record going into Sectionals is now 32-0.  Great Job Callie! Congratulations on a great meet!! 

Male Athlete of the Week - Parker Chan, Swimming

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Parker Chan. Parker continues to smash pool records wherever he travels.  After winning both his individual events on Friday 1/31 at Morton, Parker was 2nd in the 200 Free and won the 500 Free at the Lyons Invite on Saturday, 2/1.  Parker's time of 4:34.59 in the 500 Free was a new pool record at Lyons Township.  Already this season, Parker has broken the 500 Free pool record at Bloomington High School and the 200 IM pool record here at Hinsdale South.  Looking forward to Conference this Friday, February 7th. Great job Parker! Congratulations on a great week! 


Week of December 9th
Female Athlete of the Week - Anya Patel, Gymnastics

​​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Anya Patel. This past Saturday Anya helped lead the Girls Gymnastics Team to a 2nd Place finish at the Hinsdale Central Invite with a team score of 135.05! Anya took 1st on Floor Exercise, 7th on Balance Beam, 2nd on Vault, 2nd on Uneven Bars & 1st All Around! Great Job Anya! Congratulations on a great meet!! 

Male Athlete of the Week - Christian Hardrick, Basketball

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Christian Hardrick. Christian was a huge part of our team’s first victory of the season against Proviso East on Saturday. He led the team with 19 points, going 7/8 from the field and 4/5 at the free throw line. He also had 3 rebounds and took a charge. He consistently gave great effort for all four quarters. Christian has grown not only through his play but has also developed into a great teammate and leader as a senior! Great job Christian! Congratulations on a great game! 


Week of September 30th
Female Athlete of the Week - Addy Filipiak, Tennis

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Addy Filipiak. Addy is a competitive athlete. She is currently 20-1 playing a mixture of both 1st and 2nd singles. She finished 3rd place at the Jacobs tournament, 1st place at the Dunlap tournament and went undefeated to help our team finish 1st place at the team Lincoln Way West tournament. She holds herself to a very high standard and has a positive attitude both on and off the court. We are SO lucky to have her join our team this year! Great job Addy! Congratulations on a great week!

Male Athlete of the Week - Ryan Salverredy, Golf

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Ryan Salverredy. Ryan had 4 holes to play in regionals and was near the cut line to make sectionals.  Ryan finished birdie, par, par, birdie on his last 4 holes to post an impressive 82 his best round of the year to qualify for sectionals. Ryan continued his strong performance with an 83 at sectionals. Ryan was very supportive and helpful to the other players in his group as they tried to make it to state.! Great job Ryan! Congratulations on a great year! 


Week of September 23rd
Female Athlete of the Week - Callie Carr, Flag Football

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Callie Carr. Callie is the Hornets quarterback and has done a phenomenal job in this inaugural season!  Not only does she have an arm like Tom Brady, but she is also reading defenses like Brett Favre!  Callie has the natural leadership skills to run an offense and has been an integral part of 'gelling' the team and creating a foundation of success for all players.  Whether she is throwing or running the ball, Callie is making key plays that have put the Hornets on a seven-game winning streak! Great job Callie! Congratulations on a great week!

Male Athlete of the Week - Wojtek Gilarski, Cross Country

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Wojtek Gilarski. Wojtek took 5th place finish in a strong field at the Rock River Invitational in Sterling, Illinois. Wojtek ran 16:16 for a full 5K, or 5:14 pace per mile, on a challenging course in windy conditions. Wojtek continues to be our top runner every week and has consistently been close to the front of every race. Next week the Hornets will run on the state meet course in Peoria and Wojtek is ready to fly! Great job Wojtek! Congratulations on a great week! 


Week of September 16th
Female Athlete of the Week - Kotryna Melstrad, Volleyball

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Kotryna Melstrad. Kotryna delivered an outstanding performance this week, racking up an impressive 58 kills over seven matches—averaging more than 8 kills per match. She also excelled in serve receive, earning a solid 2.06 rating. With 39 digs and 13 aces added to her stats, Kotryna's contributions were instrumental in securing key victories against Lake Park, Schaumburg, and Glenbard East. Her 20-kill performance against Schaumburg, a rare achievement, further highlighted her dominance on the court. Capping off her stellar week, Kotryna earned well-deserved All-Tournament honors at the Glenbard West Invite. Great job Kotryna! Congratulations on a great week!

Male Athlete of the Week - Brody Hallman, Soccer

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Brody Hallman. Brody has been a strong leader for the team and has set a great example for work ethic for all of the other players to follow. He has taken charge of the defense and limited opportunities from the opponents. The team has kept control of the ball through our defenders and Brody has helped launch many of our attacking opportunities. His leadership and defensive organization led to a successful week including taking Morton to overtime and two wins against Elmwood Park and Providence Catholic. Great job Brody! Congratulations on a great week! 


Week of September 9th
Female Athlete of the Week - Brenna Chan, Swimming

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Brenna Chan. With a great start to the season, freshman Brenna Chan won the 100 Breaststroke at the 2024 Hornet Invitational and broke the pool record with a time of 1:09.14.  Welcome to Hinsdale South, Brenna!!  What a great way to start the school year!!  Looking forward to big things in your swimming career! Great job Brenna! Congratulations on a great week!

Male Athlete of the Week - Jimmy Martin, Soccer

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Jimmy Martin. Jimmy has gotten off to a great start in his senior year and had a dominant week scoring in all three of our games. He started the week with two goals against a very tough Argo team. He then added two goals and an assist on Thursday against Ridgewood before adding three more goals on Saturday against Glenbard South. He ended the week with seven goals and an assist in three games in addition to creating countless other chances. This strong week gave Jimmy 12 goals and 4 assists in the first seven games of the season. Great job Jimmy! Congratulations on a great week! 


Week of September 2nd
Female Athlete of the Week - Kennedy Ruff, Flag Football

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Kennedy Ruff.  In the inaugural year of Flag Football, Kennedy Ruff has completely embraced the game.  Kennedy is a starting wide receiver and has been an outstanding player and teammate.  She has great speed and agility and makes the difficult catches look effortless.  She can read a defense and can adjust to each play.  During practices, Kennedy is also very resourceful to the younger players, helping them to learn the game for future success.  Hinsdale South Flag Football is fortunate to have such a talented athlete in our program and we are so excited to see all her amazing accomplishments this season. This past week Kennedy helped the Hornets to a 48-0 win of Hinsdale Central. Great job Kennedy! Congratulations on a great week!

Male Athlete of the Week - Mikey Jefferson, Football

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Mikey Jefferson. Mikey was a solid force behind our dominant offensive line with 18 carries for 182 yds and 3 TD's. He was able to read his blocks and carry the pile multiple times leading the Hornets to a home victory vs Riverside Brookfield 34-9.  He was able to showcase strength and speed in an impressive performance. Great job Mikey! Congratulations on a great game!
